Beyond Hummus Pita w/ Side Greek Salad
    Joe S.

Showmar's is a popular counter service chain that serves greek and southern food. I went as it was close to the office complex at which I was working for the day and was recommended by the local employees. I walked in and the line was out the door. It moved quickly though. I was dining vegan so my options were a bit limited. They did have the Beyond Burger so I opted to get that on a pita with hummus for something a little different. It was tasty and delivered without any cheese as ordered. I also went with the side greek salad which was laughably small. Had I known that, I would have chosen something that may have been a little more filling. The side salad "bowl" looks like something you'd typically get a fruit salad or something like that in. It may be one of the smallest side salads I've seen. It seems to be popular for their fried food (fish, chicken, fries, shrimp), so I left with the odor of a deep fat fryer smell lingering on me. The line was pretty much out the door the entire time I was there. People love it. The staff is amazing though. There were employees walking around, asking patrons if they needed anything, refilling drinks, and clearing tables. Great staff!

Disappointing expensive frozen small burger patty.

First time checking out Showmars today (2/2/19) and overall it was good....clean and close to my house. I ordered the shrimp platter with fries and onion rings and my buddy ordered the single bacon cheddar cheese burger ($5.69) and upgraded with fries and a drink for $3.79. He was totally disappointed in the burger, not fresh just a frozen burger and fries that they took out the freezer. The biggest complaint is that it cost over $10 and the patty was small. I enjoyed my shrimp platter even though that too was taken out of the freezer and were tiny popcorn shrimp.....really would have preferred larger shrimp. All together the bill was $23+ for two entrees. Will return and try the Gyro or fried fish....will never order the burger again. If your gonna come to this restaurant and order a basic burger plate save yourself some money and just drive up the street to Cookout.....their burgers are a lot bigger, grilled and you get two sides, the burger and a huge drink for $5.68 tax included!

In the nearly seven years I've lived in Charlotte, I don't know why I've never given Showmars a try. That was a mistake. This is good food. And it's inexpensive. And it's served quickly. My take out order had all the stuff I needed when I got it home. And best of all, it was tasty! We had one order of the gyro dinner, which came with a good sized pile of sliced lamb and a delicious pita bread and a good sized pile of rice. And we had another order of the fried flounder, which had a shedload of crinkle cut fries. And ketchup. And tartar sauce. Everything you need for a great meal except the defibrillator. Can't wait to return!

I love Showmars at Providence, so I've recently moved to the Arrowood area and thought I'd give this a try. It wasn't too bad and my Postmates guy was a little turned around so my my food was a little limp and very oily (flounder, fries, hush puppies). My fish was fried well which I like, but they forgot a few toppings on both burgers and I think they gave me (2) pieces of fish instead of the three I ordered. I took off 2 stars for the missing items.

I finally had the time to check out Showmars! And they did not disappoint!!!! For starters, the restaurant was very clean. That means everything to me. The menu was not hard to read and the staff was super friendly. I decided on trying some small plates first. Just to get my feet wet. I ordered the small fish plate, the shrimp plate, the chicken finger plate, and hushpuppies. The food was great! The fish was not fried to a crisp. The hushpuppies had a little sweetness to them. They were great! The chicken finger were not bad either. But chicken fingers are chicken fingers! The shrimp were thinner than I expected, but they tasted great. This place was a nice surprise and I can't wait to go back!

I ordered my food to go and it was ready for pick up when I got there in 10 minutes and I went during lunch time around 12:45. The quality of the food is good and the serve is pretty good. Place is clean as well which I appreciate. I got the pasta salad which is kind of expensive for the size in my opinion and the chesseburger put a which is delicous. Try them out!

This is a five star Greek dinner. Compared to other Greek dinners this place is top of the heap. I had the old fashioned pita burger with onions chilli and slaw. If there is a more comforting food in this town I have yet to have it. The pita is soft and perfectly warm. The burgers are cooked flattop style with the crispy edge and awesome flattop flavor. The toppings make it a perfect combo. Make sure you add fries as they serve the super crispy crinkle cut fries your childhood was made of. They are always cooked perfect and the pita and fries is less than $9, can't beat that. I love showmars and if you don't eat beef then get the fish sandwich, it is incredibly good as well.

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

I've heard rave reviews about this place so Michelle & I went for Sunday Brunch…read more They recommended a reservation so we had one @ 12n. It was already quite busy when we arrived and it's not clear where your parking options are. People are pulling up to the entrance and dropping people off so it gets jammed up and chaotic, of course people are running late so those BIG Yukons and Suburbans are making it a challenge to navigate a small entrance area. You would THINK they would at least have a Valet option of Sat/Sun during Brunch. To park, go BEHIND the restaurant on the street to the left and you'll see some free parking options that are close and walkable. We asked for a table on the patio and were immediately seated. The bar was already buzzing with solo diners enjoying their Mimosas. The patio is NOT that big, a little over crowded and table are very close with not much space in between. There was a LARGE group of 'FUN' ladies right beside us enjoying their MIMOSAS, dropping the 'F' bomb from time to time and making a LOT of noise. What can you do? Nothing but try to make the best of it and just start talking LOUDER like everyone else. The OVERHEAD heaters were way too intense so the Staff was very responsive at our request to turn down the heat. We shared the BBQ Shrimp Starter which was SO good, I highly recommend. I had the Gumbo and Michelle had the beet and goat cheese salad. We both had the Red Fish which comes with smashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were so BLAND, the broccoli had NO seasoning. The Red Fish wasn't that great of a flavor and not very tender, not easy to cut, had to use my knife at times to get a bite. Kinda disappointed, I lived in N Orleans for a couple of years and it was always so good there. The biggest disappointment was the Gumbo. It had all the right ingredients but the ROUX was to strong, dark and heavy. It actually gave me indigestion afterwards. The service was OUTSTANDING. Our Server was Daylean, she was so nice and helpful with the menu and kept our refills coming.

They even still have the 120 year old pews! If you ask your server, you are likely to hear the entire story of the place. It's pretty amazing. They recently received a Michelin recommendation and it's totally deserved. It's a buffet, but most of the hot food is actually served by a person which is something that I particularly appreciate. (I really don't like touching the handles of spoons that hundreds of people have touched.) Some of the stuff is self serve but not any of the hot dishes. Absolutely everything I tried was outstanding. Like everything. There are a few things that they consider "pass around" which means that they are brought over to you by a server at random intervals. For everything else, you just help yourself. I went with a friend of mine who has a deep appreciation for a southern food. He was absolutely amazed. Honestly, I can't think of a better place to have chosen to eat in a short time I had in Charlotte. I've attached a picture of the menu. I tried just about everything. I wasn't disappointed in a single thing, and I was completely wowed by many of them. The servers were wonderful. Very friendly and very willing to talk to us about the history and the food items that were there. Highest recommendation!

My friend found this spot and I have to say, I'm not going to say the "S" word - because it didn't apply. It was all Hospitality. The first interaction was like we had stepped into someone's home and were told to make ourselves at home. And the rest was the same. The gentleman walked us through the menu. Pretty much the entire line up of options. Not a condescending or impatient tone - warm and welcoming. Same with the next person. Even convinced my friend to get a dessert. Not that I need my arm twisted. The dining area was well kept. Clean. The condiments were well stocked and organized. I saw two different team members taking care of business there even asking if I needed anything. Bathrooms were immaculate. Don't see that very often - at least I don't in public places. The food was what we were looking for. Comfort food. With taste, not muted - just good flavor and consistency. A far cry from the bland, dry foods we had experienced the days prior. It was one of the first meals I really enjoyed on this trip to NC. Not saying that others were bad - they just didn't align with my taste preferences/expectations. Something about how Fried Chicken and Pork Chops are prepared in the South (or NOT California). Tender. Juicy. Mac & Cheese - not watery or overcooked. And I don't think I've ever had bad collared greens in my life. It's one of the handful of green vegetables I love having. Almost forgot parking. It's in kinda a plaza/strip mall setting. Free space and lots when we went (lunch). Not having to look for or pay for parking is always a plus for me. So, it's a chain. But I'd definitely go back. I almost ordered more but was saving the stomach space for dinner.
