Shortwave has become my "treat" coffee shop to work at, because it's a bit of a trek, inconvenient for parking (all paid + meter), and always busy... but I love it. I typically park in the Sparkman lot, which I think is the most affordable option during the day. Shortwave is a good size with lots of seating and beautiful natural light coming in. In the middle, there's this large roaster that I thought was just for decor (lol) but I saw the staff using it for something this last time I was there! I ordered the Mint Mayday this time, which I'd had my eye on for awhile. And wow, this thing is sweet, but delicious. It was so sweet that I couldn't finish it, but I really loved the mint and of course, the presentation of the drink! I probably won't order it again because they have so many other fun latte flavors, but it was a win for sure. I don't remember if there's free wifi as I used my hotspot, but I saw quite a few people working on their laptops so I assume so. Definitely a great spot! read more

Absolutely love the interior. Modern, bright, and inviting. The set up is great, as others have mentioned. There's plenty of seating and it's quiet enough to read/study if needed. It also smells delicioussss. I got the mint mayday half sweet- such a uniquely refreshing cold brew. I'd probably get it a touch sweeter next time. Plus they use real muddled mint. They also have a lot of house made syrups and roast their own beans! Can't wait to try the espresso based drinks. AH I'm just so excited about this place. The honey tea cake caught my eye. I wouldn't get it again but glad I tried it. The chai flavor comes through, moist in the center, and presented beautifully. Just depends on your mood. I heard the sweet honey and almond croissants are yummy. Parking is difficult as it's on water street. But there are parking garages nearby. My party stalled at the port after making a wrong turn. Worked out for us, though! If I lived in the area, I likely would frequent this coffee shop for its beautiful workspace and tasty drinks. Such a cute cafe close to the Tampa Riverwalk! I was drawn in by the chalk board displaying their specials. They had a white raspberry latte displayed. Sadly, they were all out. Tried this place out as it was part of the Tampa coffee battles. It was quite the trek from my office (East Jackson) about 20 min walk each way but totally worth it. Went on a Friday afternoon and the area was very busy so I was not surprised that there was a wait when I got here. I got an iced cardamom latte with whole milk and it was so yummy. Cute coffee shop we came across on a morning walk and decided to stop in. It seemed to be a decently busy spot but thankfully the employees were moving pretty quickly. I tried an iced vanilla rosemary latte which was on a specials menu and enjoyed it, I do wish it was a little less milky and the flavor was a little more prevalent. I came a couple weeks ago and tried their peppermint matcha latte. I was hesitant on the flavor but the friendly barista said it was like drinking mint ice cream and that convinced me. Conveniently located hipster coffee shop in between the Florida Aquarium and Tampa Bay History Center. Everything you could want as far as coffee/tea/espresso/hot chocolate, they're all on the menu. There were some pastries for sale, but I was feeling savory over sweet so I asked about bagels. The sesame seed bagel I got was so tiny for the price! But not bad. My iced chai was good. A decent amount of seating, with lots of places to plug in your charger and free wifi. Most people there were working on laptops. Cute merch for sale. Service wasn't terribly fast, but it was a nice place to get a beverage and charge my phone before my next stop. read more

It's open, sleek, and modern. There's lots of natural sunlight. There are plants and flower arrangements throughout the shop. What's not to love about this newest coffee shop on Channelside at Sparkman Wharf? I was greeted right away even though they were busy with other orders. There were some beautifully presented honey chai tea cakes at the counter with other pastries. I have to try that next time. This visit was for coffee, and they have an extensive menu full of various flavors. I chose one of their signature iced drinks called Mint Mayday. It was surprisingly delicious & refreshing for coffee. It must have been the fresh muddled mint leaves. It was all natural mint blended with their cold brew coffee. More of a mint taste than a coffee taste which is what I was going for. Absolutely everything that I wanted and more. I did try my friends peppermint coffee which had such a fresh roasted taste. Definitely not bitter or burnt tasting. It kind of made me want to order more but I resisted. I'd make a special trip and pay for parking just to revisit this coffee shop. It's totally worth it. It's also within walking distance from the cruise port and the Florida Aquarium. It's definitely a great find and deserves many revisits. read more

Sleek new coffee shop in channelside! Very nice open aesthetic and lots of seating. We got the cardamom latte and double espresso shot- both very good and smooth! Loved all the diff flavors they had in comparison to other shops. Strawberry basil, white mocha, lavender, etc. Mayday sounded very good. Cold brew with muddled with mint! We came on a very busy day (cruise ships were departing) so everyone spread all their things out and took over the seating but shouldn't be A problem on a normal day. There's a lot of charging stations including spots on tables where you can just lay your phone on the table to charge! Very cool feature. One thing is that they should consider reducing the cost of oat milk sub ($1.25 additional), oat milk is readily accessible most places and even though, there's inflation.. $1.25 doesn't make sense to me. It shouldn't cost that much to have a lactose intolerance, lol. Overall great addition to the area! read more

A very short walk from the Florida Aquarium. As you walk in, it's very spacious, minimalist, filled with plants and sufficient seating. I got the lavender latte and husband got just a regular latte. Prices were pretty standard for a coffee shop but they only offer one size (16oz I believe). The lattes were pretty good, the roast was decent. I'd give the coffee 7/10 but the vibes were very nice. Shortwave Coffee is what I would describe as a "big city coffee shop" which Tampa doesn't have much of. It would be typical in San Francisco or New York, but Tampa's coffee scene is much more hipster and small. The whole modern look hasn't come in (yet), but I'm sure its coming with all the new Water Street restaurants and hotels opening 2023. The coffee was great, I enjoyed my pour over and the place was packed. They probably need more seating since people waiting for cruises were just lounging around at the cafe. Also with people working remote downtown there could be a heavy crowding problem if more seating isn't added (especially when non-paying customers are everywhere). I appreciate the outside tables, maybe add more and some long benches or something. The Ethiopia pour over was made just right. I liked the flavor of it. Definitely also need more plugs and Wi-Fi as well (and plugs outside!). Tampa is not the kind of town where plugs are not found at coffee shops. Staff was friendly, but not too-friendly. When you're new to town, you should explain more about the coffee to customers. I would return. read more

I was excited to see a new coffee shop open up in Channelside. Instantly as I walked in the coffee shop gave me a really cool 60s vibe. I got there about 20 minutes before they closed at 3pm. I'm not sure if that was the reason no one really greeted me when I walked in but I must say they weren't too personable. There's this really cool area when you walk up to the counter where they have a huge coffee machine grinder and coffee been bags. What I ordered: They had a good menu that includes traditional espressos, specialty lattes (the strawberry basil stood out to me), tea lattes both hot and cold, smoothies, hot chocolate. I went with the matcha latte with oat milk. It comes naturally sweetened with vanilla although you really couldn't taste it much. Of course there's a $.75 up charge for milk substitutes and they had oat, almond soy, breve and coconut as options. I saw they offered food. There were bagels and some pastries. The shop is a good size and I'm not sure if they offer free Wi-Fi, but they had good amount of seating both inside and out. read more

I am always excited for a new coffee shop opening up in the neighborhood. I saw that Shortwave was still on their soft opening hours on their IG page recently so decided to walk down and check it out this past weekend. They did not open doors for about 15-20 minutes after their posted opening hours but it was a nice morning out so waiting wasn't an issue. The space is spacious and very nice for a coffee shop. Very modern amenities and power outlets galore in their seating area. I decided on the citrus morning bun and an iced white peppermint mocha latte. There were not too many savory food offerings, outside of a bagel. The bun was amazing, flaky, and very delicious. The latte I ordered was very strong for a latte and the flavor of the peppermint didn't really come through. I'd chalk a lot of this up to my individual coffee preferences and possibly to the newness of the process here, since they just opened. Today was only their 2nd day open and we were happy to be the first customers of the day. We are certainly coffee people and try out new places anytime they open in the area. This place is 10/10 for many reasons. My husband had the cardamon latte and said "it was absolutely heavenly". I had the caramel cold brew w oatmilk...it was also delicious. I work from home, so I am always looking for spaces to escape to and get a break from my home office. This spot is perfect! Lots of outlets and space for solo working, or even meetings. They have a wireless charging area integrated into the large work area table. I'm into it! We were there early, so there weren't any pastries available yet, but we will be back to give those a try. Grabbed a quick drink on the way home from a cruise and the service and coffee was wonderful. Shortwave is located in the channelside district close by the Port of Tampa and the Aquarium. The ambiance is really modern and spacious. It was really relaxing. I would love to go back and experience a coffee while dining in. This visit, I ordered a dirty chai. The drink was made perfectly.
