The building is beautiful. When you walk in you're surrounded by art of all types: ceramic, fibers,…read morewood, painting, etc. Parking is easy if you have an NCSU parking pass or it's after 5pm. Here's the reason why the Crafts Center earned this one star review. I enrolled in the beginning sewing class taught by Roberta. Roberta wasn't able to effectively teach all 8 students at once in my experience. For some students she was incredibly attentive and they (first time sewist) finished fabulous projects such as a jacket with set in sleeves. My experience was very different. Roberta could not help me read a beginner pattern (pull on Pietra shorts from Closet Core Patterns), shamed me for not using a Big 4 pattern (which I don't fit into for bust and hips so that wasn't an option) and making a muslin (which is super necessary for my body proportions to check fit), couldn't pivot to tell me how to adjust for high (15") waist/hip difference, or help me learn (in the last class) to sew a basic zigzag stitch. There were constant issues with the equipment in the room and basic supplies such as seam rippers were not provided (Roberta never told us to purchase them, so when I needed a seam ripper during class and there was none, I had to leave to go purchase one). Roberta chose not to wear a mask during the first session of the class (~January 2022) during an Omicron surge. I asked over email several times to talk to someone about this class so that no one else would have to have the atrocious experiences I did. They said that they reminded Roberta about the mask policy and suggested that I talk to someone at the front desk but for the two subsequent classes, there wasn't anyone at the front desk when I arrived to the building. Roberta apologized at the end of the class for not being able to teach me but the bigger question is why would the Crafts Center hire a teacher that can only teach some, but not all, students? The Crafts Center charged me $95 for class where I learned absolutely nothing. I could say you get what you pay for but in this case I paid for getting nothing. Future students should know that the Crafts Center has a zero refund policy once the class starts. Save yourself time and hassle by taking a beginning sewing class somewhere else that actually is invested in teaching *all* students with folks who are good teachers, not just good artisans.

Very impressive crafts center! I go here for night drawing…read moreclasses, and it's teeming with life. Every studio has some kind of class going on: clay, jewelry, photo, painting, woodwork, you name it. The classes have reasonable schedules that accommodate full-time working adults. The prices are quite low. I'm always excited to come here and learn some neat techniques despite it being Monday night. If you are considering anew hobby and looking for classes, check out this place first.

As it is, this city already has a substantial supply of thrift stores. However, Reconsidered Goods does for the Three Rs what I have never seen any other thrift store do well to date. They likely came into existence as a way to cater to the low-budget art student crowd. They seem to have realized that there is potential value in everything. Literally. From the things you would expect to find for sale anywhere down to the things that are only just shy of trash, depending on your personal criteria. I particularly love the bucket loads of stationery and stickers, and the literal shelf loads of assorted random boxes. Your donations and your purchases all give back to the community in some way. They even have an entire maker space style workshop making up the back half of the building where I assume they also do trainings and workshops. And even their prices are so reasonable that a little bit of pocket change can go a long way. The only complaint I can even come up with is that they aren't open long enough.

The store offers materials for almost every creative hobby you can imagine, from crafting to art projects. On my last visit, they were hosting a customer appreciation event, and I was able to snag an item 50% off. I purchased some vintage plates that I plan to use to display candles in my home. One of my other favorite finds from a previous visit was a vintage gravy boat I picked up the day before Thanksgiving, such a life saver for my first Thanksgiving! This space is a great addition to Greensboro, and I always leave feeling inspired and excited to create.

Want to be crafty but surprised you made it out of 6th grade art class? Love to save things on…read morePinterest but have no plans of making it a reality? Have no fear! Pinspiration is here. Combining the best of everything, Pinspiration is a place you can go and be crafty. They've got the supplies, the space, the knowledge, and they even clean up! I see some people who craft and their house is littered with paint pens here, random stencils somewhere else, and a room full of yarn but no knowledge of what colors they actually have. Pinspiration has it all, it's organized and at the ready, and the staff are available to guide you through the steps to complete your project. I went as a part of a team building activity and was immediately blown away by all of the different items I could craft. Not an artsy person by trade, I had some serious hesitations about being able to complete the "hey y'all" door hanger. But they had faith in me and I had faith in the painters tape and stencils. I honestly don't even know how long it took, but over two hours later, I emerged from the store with an adorable, complete project. As someone who chose Gumby in art class because all I had to do was make a minor divide in the clay block and paint it mostly green, I felt accomplished today. They have a wide variety of crafts available to choose from, including but not limited to candle making, acrylic paint pours, wooden sign making, string art, and mug painting. I know I am forgetting a few, but the possibilities are seemingly endless. And the items vary in size and price. But honestly, the fact that you don't have to singularly buy all of the pieces required for the item, plus the space, plus the knowledge that the staff brings to each project is value enough. They have a large open area for big groups, a smaller room with multiple tables for a small party, or just have a girls night or date night. There's a bar in the back and bathrooms, but I was too focused on my project for either. This is a place that I would love to return to in the future and will recommend to everyone I know.
