As a newbie drummer I relied heavily on Tom from 2112 and he was super helpful. (Great name for a drum expert, btw!). I was not sure about learning a new instrument but ended up buying a new kit (Ludwig with Zildjian cymbals : )~ I visited 3 times before buying and never felt pressured. They just wanted to help me make a good choice based on my budget and needs. The service and sales team were great. Selection is amazing including used equipment. Prices are competitive and they have teachers available on site if you need a lesson. Nothing beats hands on experience in my view and you get it fully at 2112. A temp. career change relocated me and my young family back to NC in early Dec. 1991. I needed quick cash to buy Christmas gifts for my wife and kids. Our money was very tight! 2112 quickly bought an old Pearl & CB700 mixed kit I had owned since I was a kid and paid me a fair price. I hated (at the time) to sell it but wife and kids had to come first! By 1994 I was in much better shape and I came back to 2112 for a new kit. Whit Helton helped me choose and purchase; to quote Whit; ("...a big honking double bass monster kit!")...a very nice set of Premier APKs and an array of Sabian cymbals. The more stuff I bought along the way, the more Whit, Jeremy V., Tony and several other guys there were able to 'wheel & deal' with me. "Let's do it!?", was the signal that a deal had been reached! A few years later, I even saw a partial 2 tom set of concert toms from my first set I sold to them in the beginning, come full circle back to the used section of the store. It don't get any cooler and surreal than that for a lifelong musician! 2112 Percussion is the ONLY place (IMHO) for a drummer to find exactly what he needs, and a friendly, capable staff that speaks the language of drums fluently. I don't shop anywhere else and have been a loyal customer since 1991. As a footnote; Tony (from the shop) and I both played a multi-act gig at the same venue one night several years ago. I had forgot to bring my drum rug! He actually stayed (VERY late) until my band finished up the show (final act) so I could borrow his...we ALL know what a pain a creeping bass drum is without a rug! This is definitely the place for drummers. They buy and sell used gear, plus have a huge selection of new stuff also. If you are a working drummer, garage jammer, or just like drums this is heaven. You can trade in, and get some new stuff. Or sell unused items for cash or store credit. They have odd parts and things you simply can not, and will not find anywhere else. If you break a bolt off of an old stand or pedal, chances are they have what you need to fix it. Or maybe they have a used stand for half the price of new. The prices are great, and they always cut you a deal. For years I have been coming here and they always take care of me, if its small stuff like sticks, heads, or complete drum kits. No problem. They are super friendly and layed back. No pressure. Just people doing what they love. There is a huge pile of used snares here in every price range and type you can think of. Single drums. Last time I was here I found a drum I had been looking for for years to complete an odd set. You never know what you will find. And thats one of the many things that separates this place from the big box stores. I could give you many stories of shopping here. Buying a set of Gretsch maple drums on a whim one day. Or a stack of cymbals. One day I strolled in looking for a cymbal. I wanted a new ride, something with some ping, but plenty of wash. Not too big, a 20". Just like magic the guy pulled a cymbal out that sounded exactly as I had described! It was amazing. Another time my tom mount broke on a set of old drums during a recording session. A quick trip to 2112 and I was back in business with exactly what I needed. They have a large selection, and all prices are negotiable! You cant loose here. Plus with a name like 2112 whats not to like? Avoid the big box stores and shop here where they appreciate your business. read more
