You all don't know how good you have it in Riverhead having a bakery like this in a grocery store. I always stop here on my way to the Orient Point ferry to return to New England. All of my friends are obsessed with Long Island crumb cake. Maybe New Englanders are more health obsessed but you can:t get coffee cake with a full inch of sugar and butter on top outside of New York. Yes ... the store itself isn't great for everyday grocery shopping. It's somewhere between an Aldi and a Stop N Shop. It's located in a empty mall and almost looks closed it's set so far back from the road. It's probably better from a tourist perspective than an everyday grocery shopping perspective as there are a lot of New Yawk style items we can't get ... proper hot dog relish ... crumb cake ... black and white cookies ... local beers, etc. However, prices seem pretty low and for the bakery alone, I'd go here over corporate Stop N Shop any day. Everything in Shop Rite seems more 'local' focused because they are a NY only chain ... vs. Stop and Shop, which are all over the East Coast. The inside feels a bit more 'industrial' with harsh flourescent lighting which makes it feel more like a garage than a grocery store. Somehow the interior manages to be dreary and dark and harshly lit at the same time. Overall though, am I choosing this over Wegmans? No. But over the chain grocery stores, I'm going here all day. For those passing through Riverhead, grab some coffee cake on your way home. It's better than what you'd get at most bakeries ... either the store brand or the other two brands from Brooklyn, which are only like a buck more. read more

I prefer Shop Rite over Stop n' Shop, and I enjoy the Riverhead location best. Customer service is very helpful, patient and courteous. Cashiers are a mighty bunch, as their friendliness and patience is notable. Security staff are spot on. The individual departments' managers and staff, e.g. Scanning, Produce, Bakery, Deli, Health & Beauty, Seafood, Meat, Frozen, Dairy, et al are professional, courteous and helpful. The layout of the store is bright and organized. My only complaint is the ventilation system which is in dire need of inspection for the health of employees and shoppers. read more

My mom has this weird obsession with ShopRite, and since there are none in our area she really wanted to hit this location up. Overall it's a pretty decent grocery store, but I noticed some go-to name brands missing from the shelves on our trip. Duke's Mayo, Banza Pasta, Annie's Mac and Cheese were nowhere to be found in this store -- even trying to find a variety pack of cheeses for a charceuterie board was challenging enough that we ended up going without. That said, we did hit some decent sales, and the meat section had everything we needed for our BBQ. Service here was prompt and friendly and the store itself was decently clean. They have a pizza section here with a brick oven but I guess they close up shop early because it was all shut down. I would've liked to give that a try. The store is a little oddly laid out as well but maybe I'm just used to my go-to grocery store. I had a hard time finding mac and cheese in general (I'm used to finding it near the pasta). My review is solely based on ShopRite pick up. I have never actually been inside the store. I only gave four-star since it is sometimes difficult to get a hold of somebody in the pick up department. (Chances are, from my experience back in the day when I used to work at stores, they are probably understaffed and overworked. ) The lovely lady who answered the phone this morning for my silly question and gentlemen who helped load everything in my car were extremely friendly and helpful. My family is very grateful for the help because it is extremely difficult to get two kids and a baby in and out of a car, through a store, through isles wo hassle, and loading a car full of groceries. Why Shop Wrong when You can ShopRite! This is a brand new store that's only been open for a few months now. Plenty of large well stocked and well lit isles to shop around in (shop around, shop around, shop up, shop up and get down in) Really Fresh Produce, Bakery, Seafood, and Delicious Deli Departments are all pretty tremendous here.   As you probably already figured you'll find Me hanging out in the Butcher Shop which has some really nice choice cuts for Chilling - Grilling - Thrilling - and - Filling!   The check out lines move along pretty quickly here and don't forget to recycle your aluminum cans and bottles out front. ShopRite has finally come to the East End of Long Island. Today was the soft opening day, the Grand Opening is on Wednesday. The store was already filled with customers in the busiest hub on Rt. 58 in Riverhead. ShopRite seems to have the best buyers of the supermarkets, and delivers amazing deals but also things that make it worth going in for, like amazing crab cakes and tons of fresh and frozen fish. Perfect for the east end. Across the street Stop N Shop still had a parking lot filled with customers, showing how much of a hub this really is. ShopRite has added a little extra for the east end. There was a Sushi station, Brick Oven pizza section, regular deli, and slightly nicer bakery. Why I ever picked up a jumbo B & W cookie I have no idea, but the woman behind the counter saw me looking at it, and encouraged I try it. Don;t have to suggest it twice... Oh God. Never again. (?) Samples of the sushi showed a good place to grab quick sushi lunch to go. The vendor said they do a few of the ShopRite or stores, so they were up and running smoothly the first day. Love the new carts with holder for my tea, and nice mellow music playing. Nicer still were some of the nice young people out here trying to do a great job on the first day. read more

Shoprite Riverhead is a fantastic store. I travel 15 miles at least once a week to shop there. I find things I can't get anywhere else and most of the prices, especially the sales, are great. It's the only store I know of where the bottle machines are always clean and functional. The employees are great whether with counter service (Fish, meat, etc.), check out or being able to answer questions. There are only 2 gripes I have. The first is in the way the sales circulars are constructed. I often miss that items are only a 2 day or certain day sale, especially when recently compounded with other conditions in very small print. This results in paying more than I expected, often not realized until I get home. The other issue is comparatively minor, that being with the occasional lack of cleanliness and repair of shopping carts. This is an issue for any store and is more of a complaint about customers. read more

Even if there is one person being taken care of and you are waiting, its like you are invisible. Ask a question if there is anyone else to help and they get arrogant. Hoping management sees this. Back in January 2023 I bought 4 bags of ShopRite brand (Bowl and Basket) potato chips with an expiration date of April 2023 on each bag. I opened all four bags on March 4 for a small dinner party. The potato chips in 3 of the bags were rancid so I took them back to Shop Rite expecting a simple return or refund of the 75 cents for each bag, total $2.25. At 4 PM there was no customer service rep at the counter so I did a little shopping. I came back 10 minutes later to a CSR (Older, grouchy blonde woman in a pink blouse who refused to giver her name.) I explained that the potato chips had gone bad and she refused to give a refund because they were bought in January. I showed her the "Use By Date" of April 2023 and explained that I only opened the bag a few days ago and all I was asking for was 75 cents for each bag. She refused again and finally asked her co-worker, Candice, to issue a gift card for $2.25. I went to check out and use the gift card for purchase and it did not work. I went back to the customer service counter and spoke to the grumpy blonde woman again. She was not happy but finally gave me the refund in cash. This is not the type of customer service I expect at a store like ShopRite, stand behind your store brand products. read more

Customer service ( WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE ) there is none.!!!!! Have you gone to Shoprite in Riverhead this week? If you want to get the digital coupon you must go the this kiosk and look up each individual item and click on it to get the digital coupon. Fresca was on sale for 4 bottle for 5 dollars with digital coupon. I had my food on conveyor belt and was told I had to look up my own items for digital savings and then go back to checkout... I did not know that Fresca was owned by Coke therefor I was unable to find coupon. At this point my frozen items are defrosting..... Spoke to a very nasty manager named JUDY who needs to go back and get trained on CUSTOMER SERVICE. Its a shame, the store is beautiful, excellent prices and never crowded. The deli department personnel is the worst. Never greet you, thank you, get your order correct or they still haven't learned the correct deli meats. They ALWAYS have an attitude, if there not happy then work somewhere else. I complained in the store and they said they were aware of the issue yet it still haven't changed. I gave 2 stars at least because the the cashiers are outstanding. They are the only ones that smile along with the front end managers. Whatever acting store managers they on seem missable also. Do yourself a favor and buy your cold cuts at BJ's. My husband and I were shopping at the Riverhead location this morning. We were standing on the self checkout line. The employee who was monitoring the area gave us the stink eye, looked at our cart and said to us 20 items or less very sternly. We told the employee, we have only a few items there was no one behind us waiting, not to mention there were 2 open kiosks for check out. Manager got involved, told my husband that she did not like his attitude, blamed the 20 items or less rule on the store. The husband decided that this was going no where fast, took our empty bags, left the stuff in cart and left. The manager did try to talk to me unsuccessfully and was very snarky. We did call corporate, they did say there is no 20 item or less rule for self checkout. Needless to say we will not be shopping there ever again. read more

I have a raincheck for Dunkin coffee at $6.99 and it clearly states "any variety". After presenting the raincheck to the cashier, who I believed to be a new employee, she called the manager's assistant, Judy to help her. Judy claimed that it excluded the decaffeinated variety even though it clearly stated "any variety". She also claimed the decaf is always excluded from sales which is an outright falsehood. It should also be noted that the paper raincheck is apparently generated directly from the sales flyer thereby eliminating any ambiguity. I then spoke to the sore manager George who backed up Judy's false claim and refused to honor the sale price. I have been buying Dunkin decaf for over 5 years and never once did a ShopRite advertisement exclude decaf. Virtually all the Dunkin coffees on the shelf, including decaf currently list a $9.99 retail price dispelling both managers claims that decaf coffee cost more and therefore is never incliuded in a sale. Fortunately I do most of my shopping at the New Hyde Park Shoprite where customer service is head and shoulders over Riverhead. Both George and his assistant should be embarrassed by their behavior. if you shop Shoprite, check your receipts! You are being cheated! Those two foot long receipts are meant to deceive you. Those coupons you are signing up for on line, are doing there own math. I was over charged for my $.88 grapes this week. I went to the counter and it took 13 minutes to figure out they had to refund 1.25. It was actually more, but I made my point! This is not the first time! I've complained to corporate office and was told this is a franchise, we will pass on your remarks. Watch out. We just discovered this grocery store and we love it. Incredible prices beat out local supermarkets and the nearest superstore. They have unusual wines, sangria, precooked deli foods, etc. More of a selection in the frozen section. Huge selection of ice creams and we tried some new frozen dinners. Definitely a better selection than most other grocery stores on Long Island. read more

What makes this place standout is Service. The employees provide assistance usually given in a small store. They are exceptionally helpful. They have accompanied me to the product I asked about. Parking lot attendees have assisted me load up my trunk when they were removing carts from lot. Staff walking around to explain where certain products are listed right on carts. There is a nice selection of items in this large supermarket. Prices are competitive. Produce department is fair. Bakery bread is good, but the cakes and cookies don't appeal to me. Plenty gluten free products, and organic. Nice place to shop as it is quite clean. read more

I had placed 2 pick-up orders with ShopRite of Riverhead, NY. During my pick-up of the first order, the lady loading my groceries was going off on a tangent about not getting any sleep, and some other none sense that I didn't care to hear. Upon reviewing my receipt, before leaving the parking lot, I realized that there was about $30 worth of groceries missing. I went to the pick-up door and questioned why items weren't substituted when I asked for substitutions. The woman began complaining that they had 70 orders to fill that day, and she made it clear that my concern was an inconvenience for her. I had to go into the store myself and shop the rest of my order, myself. I requested to speak with the manager, George, but he was too busy to bother coming to speak with me. So, on the 2nd order with this store, I made sure to list at least two acceptable substitutions in the notes section for each item ordered. On an item, I said that ANY substitute would do. It was tomato sauce, which the store carries about 7 different brands of. When I picked up my order, again... things were missing. On my third order, I did the same thing and I also decided to call the store and speak with the manager, George. This time I was having the order delivered to my home and wanted to make sure that it was correct. George was rude, insulting, and dismissive. Ultimately he ended hanging up on me. I called back to ask for the name of the DM or owner of the store. He told me that I wasn't entitled to that information and hung up on me again. I will NEVER shop at this store again. This Shop Rite is amazing. I needed 600 sugar cookies for children at a very poor school in the Bronx to decorate cookies. I took a chance and called them rather than going to many ShopRites. I called and they said can you give us a couple of hours... I said yes! They called me in 2 hours to come pick them up. They were packaged perfectly so they wouldn't break. Great job April who works in bakery. You made 150 children very happy! Thank you for coming to my rescue! NOT IMPRESSED! I used to live in Nassau and I would literally drive a half hour to shop at Greenfield Shoprite. If an item was on sale there was always a floor person to bring down more stock if it was not on the shelf and the bakery was to die for! Cakes, Breads Danish - everyone in Greenfield owned Shoprite stores was on the ball from having sale items on the shelf to knowledgeable floor people to lovely cashiers who would get you out of the store in a flash and very very capable front end people. Everyone made you feel like they valued your business! Once I was disappointed in something I bought and Mr. Grrenfield himself called me to apologize, solve the problem, and give me a credit. Shoprite RIverhead : both times I went there the lead sale item that had a coupon in the circular was out of stock and there was no substitution made by the store. It's a big store and after literally buying $400 worth of groceries I did not have the energy to go wait for a rain check. Normally if an item is a lead sale item with a special coupon in the circular the warehouse makes sure their is sufficient product on hand and as stores a re purchasing it from the warehouse often savvy grocery managers will order extra because when the price goes back up they just made money on their inventory. I have seem store managers move sale product from one of the other stores with the same owner to fill that void or offer a different product as a substitution. That would be called customer service. The deli people and the cashiers were very nice but the semolina store baked rolls I purchased tasted like sawdust. There is a front end woman with long bleached blonde hair who told me that if coupons don't scan they are counterfeit. I had a 50 cent coupon from my Sunday paper and I doubt that Newsday has a secret counterfeiting ring to supply fraudulent coupons. But front end Blondie insisted and finally I said to hell with it. If I could give this place 0 stars this is excatly what it deserves. I placed a delivery order last night scheduled today for 4-6. When my delivery never showed up I called the store. The manager Richard was very rude and obnixious , he couldn't tell me where the deliveries were , what happened to them. He couldn't get in touch with the driver . He procedded to tell me that he should've left at 8 and I was wasting his time.. He said if I am noot happy i shouldnt shop with them again. I am out 137 dollars and still no groceries.. The clerk at the deli counter helped me immediately and was very friendly. The store was clean and well stocked. I enjoyed using the self-checkout registers. I shop at this particular store often (once per week) even though I live in a neighboring town. The store is very clean and the prices are very reasonable. However, the customer services primarily in seafood department is horrific. It doesn't matter whether it's male or female but individuals whom I dealt with lack professionalism or common customer service skills. On 12/2/20 I went in to purchase seafood and was met with the same older woman as usual. No hello, nothing! Just an abrupt "what can I get you?" She remembers me as I shop there often. She always rude and annoyed that she has to prepare an order. On 12/3/20, I called to place an order for lobster. After being transferred to the seafood department and put on hold for 7:23 mins I was able to get a human. I asked to place an order for steamed lobsters and I (offered to provide my credit card). I think I must have ruined this man's day "No! you can pay in the store." Fine. I arrive at the designated time and no one said hello, nothing. The gentleman stood behind the counter with his hands on his hips. After an intense stare down. I informed him I was there to pick up an order. He pointed to a bag sitting on the counter and I departed. I'm not sure what the problem is in some super markets but some of the employees are some of the most miserable people in life. That too includes, the elderly blond woman who runs for the front end. I get home and set up for my father's birthday dinner and the lobsters are no good. My father initially commented on the smell but I shrugged it off as seafood. Cracked open a tail, and it looked like balls of cottage cheese. $45 dollars down the drain in addition to really bad customer service. Needless to say, I will not be shopping here any longer. Cleanest grocery store I've ever seen. Shoprite also has the best sales. Their bakery department is Uncle Guiseppe's quality; stop and shop across the street gets alot of frozen bakery items and taste disgusting. The meat in stop and shop also comes prepackaged and frozen, at shoprite they have a meat department. Huge selection of high quality cheeses compared to everything else in riverhead. The regional companies that supply this store are usually on sale with buy 1 get 1 free's, at stop and shop they are rarely ever on sale. read more

This is the poorest run supermarket I have ever been in. The self check out registers do not work properly - you scan and it states you need assistance. The woman working the self check out - is running the entire front end. She is literally running from register to register, it is a comedy scene. There was a line 10 deep at customer service - some gentleman asked for the manager, he never came. The store needs to hire employees. I used to live in Hauppauge and shopped in the Shop Rite in Hauppauge, that store was run perfectly. Who ever owns this store needs to get a manger that knows how to run a store. Shop Rite in Riverhead wins awards for nonexistent customer service and the most incompetent store management in the grocery business. Today a nasty, rude, and dishonest store manager named "Judy" told me a product was out for over a week because of Covid. I informed her that I had been buying this product for over a year in this store, all during Covid, and that she was using the tired Covid excuse because she probably didn't want to bother doing her job (that is, looking up when the product was ordered and when it would be restocked). My three visits to the store in the past week were a waste of my time. So I went across the street to Stop & Shop and found the product stocked, shelved, and ready for my purchase. Then I called Shop Rite Corporate Headquarters in Edison, NJ, who after looking up the product informed me that Judy the Riverhead store manager had indeed lied to me. There is in fact an overflow of the product in the warehouse right now -- 134 cases of it --- so the problem was not Covid but that the Riverhead Shop Rite store managers had neglected to inventory and then order the product after it ran out over a week ago. The level of sheer incompetence of this store's management makes you wonder about the competence of the Thompson family that owns the Riverhead store. Who in their right mind would allow such imbeciles to run their business into the ground? I am never going back. Stop & Shop earned a new customer today. read more

Never in my life have I been so disappointed with a grocery store. We bought a steak for Memorial Day at the Riverhead Long Island location. On Memorial Day we lit up the grill and sat at the table ready to eat what turned out to be a piece of shoe leather. This was marketed as black angus London broil, the most expensive cut out of three cuts. The steak was $18.67. U can imagine my horror when our guests couldn't chew the meat it was so tough. I had to immediately get some burgers out of my freezer along with franks and the toppings. Here I wanted to make a beautiful steak for my 4 guests and instead I had to toss it in the trash. I had half of it not yet cooked so today, Wednesday, two days later my husband brought back what was half of the steak. I was so angry when my husband came out to the car and said they wouldn't take the steak back because not only couldn't they scan the number ( not our fault if it was the wrong scan number) but they wanted to know where the other half was. My husband told them he trashed the cooked part because it was inedible. The supervisor would do nothing about returning our money. This is a brand new store and as far as we're concerned, we will never again shop there. Was it not proof enough if we made a trip back there that the meat was horrible. I don't find my money growing on trees. We live on social security and paying $18.67 for shoe leather is absurd. If this is the way they welcome us into the new store, they have the wrong idea. We live in a condo nearby to Shop Rite and we will make sure everyone in our condo hears about this terrible service. To make it look like we falsified the return by asking where the rest was unfair and embarrassing. If I choose to return a tough inedible piece of meat to the store and have the package and most of the steak why would they question our truthfulness? The food at all the other Shop Rites on Long Island is always top notch. We have gone consistently to the Patchogue location throughout the years and never had a problem. If I was going to make a fuss I would hAve returned the rotten cherries that were on sale and were terrible, as well as the cole slaw and potato salad that was below par. If they think they r going to be a hit In Riverhead they have the wrong idea. We aren't stupid just because we r elderly. We know when we r getting screwed. This was no more black angus than it was London broil. I tried cutting it into thin slices and it still wasn't chewable. They messed with the wrong people when they messed with us today. We will boycott this store as will everyone at our 240 family condo in Eastport. I will be bringing this development up at the hoa meeting next time and they will be sorry they made us look like fools! read more
