This place was a nice little surprise. We were headed to microcenter and looking for a close place to eat, so we gave this a try. It was nearly empty on Saturday at lunch, but I hope they are busier at other times. Our lunch specials were delicious and filling, but I was disappointed that I had to get fries because they were out of their salad. Their special lemonade was wonderful. Not bad overall, but not spectacular either. Had the koobideh salad which was decent. My partner's dish however just didn't hit right. Usually when going to Mediterranean, I'm expecting rice that's a bit more buttery and has a slight bite to it. However, the rice felt like it was overcooked and also bland/flavorless/watery. And the chicken was also just very meh. Honestly would give just 3 stars for the food, but bumping it up another star because the service was nice. They threw in an extra dessert because we waited extra despite calling ahead, and they also have healthcare worker discounts which was nice :) the place looks like it's undergoing some renovations too as there are some noticeable holes in the wall that are just covered up. read more

Beef shish kebab plate I ordered for to go the other night was so supreme. It's generously portioned with a reasonable price. What amazed me was the fluffy and yet moist rice that was perfectly cooked. The man behind the ordering counter was professional and courteous. Upon showing my $10 bday coupon he immediately applied the discount to my bill. This restaurant is almost always empty however no matter when I go here. Such was the case when I was here to place the very to go order. It's clean where it doesn't look like anyone dines in; they must het a lot of walk -n to-go or online orders (that's got to be the main source of their business. However, during the peak time in the weekdays, they may get dine-in customers from the nearby businesses; I truly hope so. We're visiting from out of town (Austin) and stumbled on this gem! For context: I'm Hispanic, and my Persian husband is extremely picky about Persian food (basically nothing ever compares to his mom's cooking). I'm also picky in my own way, so the bar was HIGH. Well... let's just say this place passed the test with flying colors. The koobideh kabob and zereshk polo were absolutely delicious, the mast-o-moosir was perfection. To top it off, we couldn't resist the saffron pistachio ice cream--10/10 worth it. We cleaned our plates, licked our spoons, and left with very happy bellies. It's a nice & casual restaurant with a very kind and welcoming manager. Our only complaint? This restaurant isn't in Austin. We atleast know where to get Persian food fix the next time we come to Colorado! read more

Shondiz is really a catering company with a small restaurant space. Don't get me wrong the food is fantastic but if you come in expecting a romantic dining experience....It aint going to happen. The four of us opted for the Family feast...which it is...and a good deal. You get a lovely Hummus and yogurt appetizer with fresh pita, a massive plate of lamb, steak, and chicken cooked to perfection, wonderful saffron basmati rice, and dessert. Our waiter was out of sorts and the meal missed things...as they are really not setup to facilitate dinners. But the owner, Mohammad, is such a wonderful warm guy you just go with it. Me and my family came in after a flight from San Diego. We came hungry. We were greeted by two very nice gentlemen at front. Very welcoming and nice staff. The restaurant was very clean and open. The food was delicious! I will say some of the best Persian food I've had. The beef koobideh was amazing so flavorful and tender, my favorite!!!!!! Everything we ordered I will say was a 10/10. I think they do mostly catering but I've gone in a few times for a quick to go order and I'm always impressed by the service and the quality of the food. Today I stopped in again and the food took a little while longer because the machine was just heating up or something... but they took such great care of me that I almost wanted to stay even longer. Customer service really is that important- if I had bad service, I would have been angry that I had to wait so long. Instead, my first thought is that I have to write a review about how amazing this place is. Try it out. Get a kebab and falafel. If you like Mediterranean food, you'll love it. read more

10/17/2024 review: this is my second time here. I tried this place back in 2020/2021 with a couple of Persian friends and remember that they approved. My family from out of State was here and we were looking for a place to eat and remembered this place, so we went. NO ONE WAS DISAPPOINTED; there was 8 of us in total. The food as it was the first time, tasted amazing! The rice is cooked to perfection! The Kabobs are grilled and are so savory. We tried different kinds of Kabobs (beef, lamb, chicken) - all taste so good. And of course, the service was also very hospitable. When Shondiz opened a number of years ago, it was just a tiny little takeout restaurant. It had a wonderful vegetarian platter with a small amount each of rice, tabouleh, falafel, hummus, pita, grape leaves and baba ghanouj. I preferred it to a similar platter at it's neighbor Felfel because I always ask for a little side of garlic sauce, and Felfel puts jalapeno in theirs (gross). I have ordered similar platters at many, many middle eastern restaurants, both in Denver and in Detroit, and they are always delicious. A little background before I tell you how it has changed over the years. Shondiz added on and now has a lovely dining room, so I really wanted to make it one of my favorite restaurants. I have been there three times since the pandemic ended and as a vegan, have been disappointed all 3 times. One time they recommended a veggie kabob. It was just roasted vegetables with nothing substantial. Another time, I ordered an eggplant dish, and I didn't like the taste. Unfortunately, they no longer have a veggie plate or platter. I asked if they could create a vegetarian platter for me, charging me for each item separately, and they said, "Sure". I asked if it would have vegetables on it, and they said, "If course". What I received was a large serving of rice with a few falafel on it, and a pint of dry hummus, with a bag of fresh pita. The pita was warm and delicious, but the hummus was dry (I added warm water and a little olive oil to it and home and re-blended it). The falafel does not taste like traditional falafel. There were zero vegetables or grape leaves. It's almost like the cook does not know what middle eastern food should taste like. Either that, or it is a niche cuisine from a part of the middle east I am not familiar with. I cannot comment on their meat dishes since my family and I do not eat meat or dairy. Maybe it's really good? I have not idea. The owner is a very nice guy. I hope he reads my comment and brings back a veggie platter. Otherwise, I won't be back. read more

The koobideh kabob was brought to the table raw. Pointed it out to the waiter and he denied that it was raw. Asked to talk to the manager who was occupied in his office. Not overseeing the operation. He came out, saw acknowledged, apologized and reordered the kabob which was cooked properly. The restaurant is decorated nicely and the manager is very polite. read more

Highly recommend this restaurant! The food was amazing and the cherry on top is the ice cream! Saffron rose water ice cream, made in house! I also really enjoy the decor. It was hard to pin-point its style but it balances well between form and function, and the center-piece was really really unique. It felt like an indoor fountain~~ Lastly, the staffs are extremely friendly and I would love to spend more time getting to know them! Nice cozy restaurant with delicious food! Seated immediately and the server Caden was friendly and professional. We had the smoked eggplant appetizer and it had a good balance of eggplant with tomatoes. The serving sizes are generous. The kobideh kabob was very tender and cooked perfectly. The joojeh chicken was tender and juicy. Rice was buttery with saffron. The owner came out to check on us and make sure everything was to our satisfaction. I've never tried Persian food before today, but I'm hooked! The family is super friendly and helpful. I recommend getting the Royal 2 Skewer so you can try more of their flavorful meats. This was my third time at this restaurant. I hadn't been for about a year. I ordered the Jenjeh which was the chicken skewer dish (white meat). I have ordered this in previous visits. The chicken was very moist but the taste was different then I remember from the last couple times I ate there. The color of the chicken marinade was very orange and the taste was not as good. I also ordered the falafel side and this time it was pretty much tasteless. I was looking forward to enjoying the meal that I have had the last couple times I have been there. But this was a disappoint, so much so that I felt I had to update my review. I plan to try again in a few months, hoping that things will get back to the way it used to be. I'm an Iranian visiting from out of town and this truly is mediocre Persian food at BEST. Kabob plates are almost always served with butter and basil, which this restaurants weren't, they didn't have or were out of tahdig, a staple at any Persian restaurant, the kabobs were not that great, the koobideh had a yellow-ish color, resembled more so chicken than lamb or beef, not sure why, the chenjeh/barg wasn't seasoned well and was dry. Giving them a 2 star because the doogh, mast moo sir, and chai (tea) were actually good and tasted homemade. I would say if you're experienced in Persian food, skip this place. If you're wanting to try Persian food, this place isn't a good representation of our cuisine, if you want mediocre-ish Persian food, this place may be for you, but the prices are high for the quality of food you get. The menu options and food at Shondiz offers some of the best flavors of the middle east. We ordered several traditional Iranian plates that have generous portions of saffron rice, well prepared kabobs, and fresh side dishes. My favorite kabob was the chicken skewer though the lamb kabobs were tender and tasty too. The yogurt side dish and cucumber/tomatoe salad goes well with the main dishes and I would highly recommend it. It's hard to find an affordable Persian food but this place offers great food and very affordable. The pictures of the food is the real food that they make. If you wanna try 2 different kabobs in one dish, try Royal which is the one I tried for the first time and it was great. It takes around 15min for kabob to get ready, so not too bad. And they do have a seating area both inside and outside of the restaurant but it's not that big of area. The best is to do takeout. Also Grubhub delivers if you're in the area. The chicken was absolutely amazing and so tender. The beef could be better it was little chewy and hard but overall great food and great pricing. read more

CONSTANT UP CHARGES, POOR FOOD QUALITY Stopped by mid-week for lunch. Staff member was very friendly and welcoming. Food was hit or miss. First off, the prices were waaaay above any other persian place - including in high-cost-of-living areas like LA or DC! $34 for a soltani??? The cucumber yogurt was some of the best I've ever had (even as a Persian foodie) but didn't come with bread so you had to pay $1.50 for four small pita slices (not baked fresh). The salad shirazi was very clearly not made that day - the cucumbers were brown and had a clear lemon-soaked flavor. The rice was fresh but the kabob kubideh was made thin and small with poor-quality beef. As soon as it cooled off, the texture become rubbery and tough - highly indicative of too much tenderization / premade more than 2-3 hours prior. Also, the color was off . Not even our local Moby Dick chain (think McDonalds for Persian food) gets this bad. Oh yea, half-salad and half-rice was an additional upcharge (again). Suggestion: I get it, running a service business with tighter margins and lack of help must be difficult. But instead of focusing on nickel and diming every upcharge, step out of your office and off the computer, focus intensely on the food quality, and get that right. Everything else will flow. read more
