This place is a hidden gem! We were wowed by the quality of the meats, especially the lamb, steak, and saffron chicken. Everything was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. We ordered a side of grilled veggies expecting maybe one skewer, but it came as a full plate. The char on the vegetables added a delicious, authentic touch. We also tried all three desserts: the baklava, the funnel cake with donuts, and most especially the rose ice cream with crushed pistachios. The ice cream had a soft, homemade texture and a delicate floral flavor that really stood out. Portions were huge, which we love because we enjoy having leftovers. The place is clean, walk-in friendly, and the staff was helpful and attentive. We'll definitely be back!
Absolutely phenomenal. Kings dish, lamb shanks, filet, yogurt, eggplant dip, its all so good. Service was bar none and it was really beautiful inside, especially for a strip mall.
Food 5/5: the food was very good! They offer a lunch special Tuesday-Friday that included a soup. I ordered the koobideh kabob which was cooked well. The rice was delicious as well. Ambiance 5/5: restaurant is tastefully decorated. There's a combination of booths and tables. There also is an outdoor seating area. Service 3/5: service really took the experience down a few notches. The restaurant was not full on a Tuesday at around 2pm. The server never checked on me or stopped by to refill water. It was hard to try to catch him.
Beautiful ambiance and friendly service. Nice choice a date night. There is a good sized covered outdoor dining area. Love all the kabob choices and daily stew options.
I really enjoyed eating at Surena with a friend of mine. We both ordered the Koobideh entree which is their most popular item at the restaurant. It was delicious. I also ordered one for my mother to go, but the kitchen was closed. The server named Reza had ordered the exact same dish to go for himself and decided to let me have it to take to my mother. That was one of the kindest things I have ever experienced at any restaurant. The restaurant was extremely cold. They have the AC blasting. It was a very hot day so I understand, but I pretty much needed a blanket to eat my dinner. The drinks were good, dining room was clean and the restaurant was decently lit. I will definitely be back again to try the other items and to eat the Koobideh again.
I had never had Persian food before. My good friend took me here and the food was great, the service was amazing, and the restaurant had a very relaxing and calming atmosphere. The was the prefect place for my friend and I to catch up and enjoy some great, different, food, and receive awesome customer service. They have a nice section outside it dine in as well.
My mom and I love Persian food. We went here a few weeks ago and I just haven't had time to write the review but let me just tell you about this place and it's deliciousness. It is in a little shopping complex off of Arapaho and it's tucked into the corner so you might miss it upon first glance. I expected it to be just a casual little restaurant, but it has more of a sophisticated feel than that. We weren't sure what to get so we asked the waiter for his recommendations, and he did not disappoint. My mom ended up with the Surena kabob with Baghali Polo which is a lamb kabob with dill seasoned rice while I ended up with the koobideh kabob which is a ground beef kabob with zereshk polo, a rice dish with barberries. I especially loved mine. The kebab was excellent, tender and flavorful, The rice was very unique, as the barberries are similar in texture to sour pomegranate. I quite enjoyed it. My mother and I decided to have a coffee and a dessert. Again I asked for the waiter's recommendation. He ended up bringing out zoolbia and Bambieh which is similar to a baklava, but in my opinion, a little sweeter. He also brought out the most fantastic ice cream I have ever had in my life. It was a pistachio ice cream with chunks of frozen cream, whole pistachios, saffron, and to top it all off, it was made with rosewater. I wish I could have this ice cream every day because it was so perfect that this place could just serve that and they would have a line out the door. I don't remember what the price of everything was, but I do remember the food and the knowledge of the waiter and would highly recommend this place. La
We got to the restaurant closer to closing time but they were still kind enough to seat us. They did let us know that the kitchen was closing soon and that the restaurant would close soon as well. The service was quick and we were able to be seated, eat, and leave the restaurant in under 30 minutes. The inside of the restaurant is spacious and clean. The chicken thigh kabob came in a large portion that would satisfy about 2-3 meals. The flavor of the meat was good, but the chicken was slightly overcooked and a little dry. It was not bad considering how close to closing they were.
We've been here many times in the past and because I'm not Persian we get second best treatment. We were given a menu and then another menu with pictures cause they assumed we didn't know what to order. My ex husband is Persian and so is my daughter who is with me My daughter first ordered an appetizer that normally comes with the Persian bread, it came and no bread so she asked and the waiter brought it out and instructed my daughter "it's called lavash" Sat us at a table with food on the bench and stained tablecloth When food was brought out we were told to be careful of the jalapenos because they are extra hot tonight Overall not a great experience after the table was as getting cleaned behind me and the smell of the cleaning solution made me want to vomit If it wasn't the only Persian restaurant in the area we probably wouldn't be back.
Very good flavors for the meats. The eggplant appetizer was ok, nothing special. I'll be back to try more!
Only 4 stars because (even though the food and ambiance was good), the service wasn't stellar. Very friendly, but our server didn't know anything about wine and it seemed like they were rushing us. Also, the lamb Kabob was kinda tough.
Very good Persian restaurant. Recommend getting the rice with the almond and barberries (zereshk polo). Don't forget to sprinkle a little sumac on your meal. Love that it's on the table. The only thing I wish was different is the flatbread served with the maast-o-khiyaar. It is a very chewy bread. If they changed this to either a cracker or softer pita style bread I would love it even more.

Flew in from Dallas today to see my sister who has been wanting to try this place and waited for me. 10/10 food tasted just like our moms and was super nostalgic for us. Sebzi, bagila, ask for pita and make a sandwich with your koobideh kebab, roasted tomatoes and a bit of sumac. Chicken thigh was not dry at all. Our waiter was awesome as well :) read more

The only thing I wish was different is the flatbread served with the maast-o-khiyaar. It is a very chewy bread. If they changed this to either a cracker or softer pita style bread I would love it even more. read more

This place is really beautiful and peaceful, such a lovely atmosphere to enjoy a meal. The waiters were super friendly and welcoming. I came here to break my fast with my cousins, and everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. I do recommend having a little patience since the food takes a while to come out, but it's totally worth the wait! read more

This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Denver. And displays has an elegant five end interior. It is a proper sit down place with authentic Persian food. - eggplant dip: great flavor with think bread - lamb shank: lamb shank was very tender and flavorful. It came right off the bone. I substituted the side of rice with a plate of steamed veggies, and even the steamed veggies came in such a big portion and was sautéed well and flavorful. - kabob: kebab was fine and not my favorite, and it came with a large portion of saffron rice. It's not bad, but I definitely loved the lamb shank more. - Persian ice cream: the flavor of the Persian ice cream with a surprise. It was special saffron and was topped with pistachios. The inner side of the ice cream is more like a shaved ice. Overall, I was so happy that I came here for dinner and will definitely come back read more

We had good middle eastern food after a really long time! Their house tea is so good - reminded me of authentic tea that I'd last had at a Persian friends place in Los Angeles! We got the garlic yogurt and eggplant starters - both so good! I was so full with the apps that I did not order mains lol. Husband got the kobideh kebab- brilliant! And my brother got the surena lamb- really nicely done. The meat here is cooked to perfection. Portions are humongous so obviously we took leftovers. Maybe the one thing they can improve on is their cocktails! Definitely coming back for meals devoid drinks! read more

Tried this place out for first time because I saw they had Chicken Kobideh which I love and is hard to find. It was delicious. The place doesn't look like much from outside but is very nice on inside. The Kobideh was excellent. The bread was a really thin type I wish they had nice thick fresh pita type bread I've eaten at other Persian places. Either way simple and delish food served well. read more
Absolutely amazing Persian food in Colorado!! I highly recommend this place. The servers are all so sweet, the place is beautiful and clean, and the menu has plenty to choose from! I had an absolutely exquisite lamb shank with baghali polo. My mom had the salmon and she said it was some of the best salmon she has ever had. My step dad had the Koobideh and it was perfect. Everything we had was delicious and we finished our meal with persian tea and pastries. I will definitely be back to Surena!! read more

This place is really nice!! Definitely a lot fancier than I was expecting. We were dressed very casually, the staff still warmly greeted us. The decor inside is done really well, would definitely be a good date night place. We ordered the surena kabob, the barg, and the mirza ghasemi. The food took a little bit of time to come out so it was good we got an appetizer. The mirza ghasemi was really good and a very big portion, enough for the whole table to share. Even though the food took some time to come out, it was well worth the wait. Both the barf(beef) and surena kabob(lamp chops) were SUPER TENDER and perfectly flavored. The rice was very fluffy and buttery. This place is on the more expensive side, however the portions are reasonable for the price. One warning is that the jalepeno that comes with the rice entree is very spicy. Probably the spiciest jalapeno I have had. We didn't have room for desert but they have a lot of good options that I will come back to try. read more

The food is really bad. I was raised on Persian food and know what the baseline is. This is not it. I think the owners need to reteach their American cooks how to make their Persian food. I ordered both the beef and chicken kabobs. It lacked salt, the meat was over mixed/worked, dried out, and greasy. The ghormeh sabzi was bitter, it didn't even taste like it had fenugreek (the defining ingredient) or dried lemons. It was bitter and montone in flavor. Their soup of the day was crappy tomato soup with frozen vegetables added to it. It was essentially tomato paste and water. The Mirza ghasemi was bad. The eggplant was bitter as if they used a bad batch of eggplants. It didn't have any salt in it. It was just straight up mashed eggplant. There wasn't anything else in it. This place is not authentic Persian food. Even frozen international meals from traders have more depth. If you want to go to flavor town, then keep driving. This place ain't it. read more

It's been over a year since I was last at Surena. This time I had different choices. I started with Doogh, a salty yogurt based drink, similar to Indian Lassi. Their version was not freshly prepared but came in a carton from a dairy in California. Next, I had the Shirazi salad ( diced tomatoes, cucumber and onions, mint, parsley accented with lemon juice & olive oil). Quite tart. My entree was Ghormeh Sabzi (caramelized chunks of beef, herbs and Persian spices) served on a bed of basmati rice. Some of the rice had saffron in it. Most of their kabobs are colorful. It did't look appetizing, but the meat was well cooked and tender. For dessert, I had their Persian ice cream (rosewater, pistachios and lots of saffron). They have a shaded outdoor patio, a full bar with counter and 6 booths + tables. read more
