This is not a "big box" hardware store, set your expectations. Store is well stocked for my needs. There may be better prices elsewhere, but you pay for the convenience of a local, well stocked store with competent personalized attention. Staff are always very polite, professional and helpful. A top priority for me. I have spend too much time and money in other locations trying to figure out what to buy. Often requiring a return visit for an exchange/return or to buy additional items to finish a project. I will happily pay a few pennies more to avoid that hassle. read more

Visited Sunday 6/14. I think I was the first customer of the day. They (2 ladies & 1 guy) were really pleasant and super helpful. I found something I had been looking for on the internet for a while and it cost less using the savings coupon than any version of the product seen on the internet. Was great to shop a local (smaller) business and be appreciated rather than buying at an Amazon - Home Depot or Walmart where you're just a $number$. Rock on Sholes-Ace! read more

I frequent this place mainly because it's close to me. The store is fairly small, so you don't have to spend a lot of time walking and searching, like you would at a big box store. On the flip side, its small size necessarily limits selection. So, it's okay for basic, common stuff, when I don't feel like driving farther and sitting in traffic to go to Home Depot. They do sell Craftsman and other tools, but again, it's limited selection. A few times I have left empty-handed because they did not have a tool, fastener or other item I needed. Being a newer store, it's clean, organized and well-kept. Employees are friendly. Service, however, is lacking because most of the employees are young men or women and don't have the knowledge or experience to be of much technical assistance, so I often have to deal with the older gentleman, who I presume is the owner. Prices, in general, will be higher than a big-box store, although they have good deals on specials in their flyers. They also have a rewards club, which gives you coupons. While it's convenient (for me, anyway) location-wise, their hours are more limited than a big-box store. In short, it's a supplement - not a staple - for my home, garden and automotive maintenance and improvement needs. read more

I have frequented Sholes hardware many times. I not only found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable, but prices are very competitive.t They also stock many items you can not find at the big box stores. I highly recommend this store. read more

This is the cutest little hardware store. From where we live it is kind of a ride to get to Home Depot or Lowe's and we find that this store has so many things that we need. They don't carry lumber are things like that but they carry lots of hardware and paint and home repair items. They have outdoor decorations like bird feeders and birdseed. They are extremely friendly and if you use their app you get credit and get coupons which is always nice. We just really liked it and try to use it as much as we can to support them because we would be devastated if they went out of business. It's really hard to find a neighborhood hardware store now. read more

I tried to return ace purchase. All I wanted was a store credit. The stuff I bought says Ace on it. But the cashier was rude. Said to me it was over 30 days. We can not return. I asked to see manager. Cashier rudely said I will call him but your wasting your time. Girl had red hair. Wont be going to Ace no more. This is the 2nd time I post a comment about this place. They dont like negative reviews so they get it removed. I am going to have to contact FB and the Ri Aclu. Freedom of speech violation. read more

Worst customer service ever, do not even try to get a Craftsmen tool replaced they wont do it. The owner is very rude. Its to bad I have to go by them to get to another store. Maybe they will be taken over by someone new. read more

I've been to this store twice, and had a bad experience on both occasions. The first time I visited this store, an older gentleman (who I later found was the owner) was standing just inside of the door. I was not greeted in any way. I then addressed him and asked if I could have my chainsaw blade sharpened. He took a look at my chainsaw and began telling me that it was junk, a "toy" and asked me if I bought it from a TV commercial. He told me he would not take the chain off (every other place has always removed the chain) and it would take a week to have it returned. I left and returned to the place I usually go to and had the sharpened chain back in two hours. Because they are close to my home, I thought I'd give them another try. First, KUDOS to their associate, Stephanie. She was cheerful, helpful and polite. An excellent example of what customer service should be! While she was assisting me (I needed to purchase a spark plug), the owner appeared and began directing her, over her shoulder. Again, no acknowledgement of the customer. He then stepped away to answer the phone, and the response to the caller was downright condescending. He then hung up the phone and exclaimed "Stupid question!" Too bad this small business owner thinks so little of their potential customers that he feels he can talk down to them. In the future I'll patronize an establishment where I'm not insulted or witness other customers being insulted. He would do well to take a few lessons from Stephanie! read more

If I could rate negative instead of 1 star I definitely would. Called today 3X got disconnected each try. Finally their caller ID just worked as someone called me back. I inquired about the availability of a sale on 6' folding table in yesterday's ad expires Sat 8/31. They disappeared for awhile to supposedly look for item. Another young associate finally comes back to phone says none available after only one day selling and none coming in tomorrow. Asked if honored price when they do come in, now she goes and checks with manager, she says no and hangs up on me. I call back thinking there is still trouble with their phone again, click, hung up on again. Call back ask for manager, owner then answers and acts like he has no idea what just transpired, number 3. He uses excuse girl is 16 and doesn't know procedure for ordering inventory and sales honoring. Needless to say, no table and never will get my business because of this rude bizarre experience.
