Recently moved to the neighborhood after purchasing a home so I've been a regular here. So glad to have this place in walking distance, especially with all the projects that come with new home ownership. The crew here is great, always quick to help you find what you're looking for and if you explain what you're trying to do, they're pretty helpful with ideas as well. They also all have a great, sarcastic sense of humor, which I'm a fan of. And to add to their convenience, they do UHaul rentals. Picked up a truck here no problem for my move. I had an issue with my car alarm battery and my car door. One could only imagine that I was in a bind! However, the entire staff soon was assisting me and attempting to get my car alarm to cease blarring, which it was presently doing. Wonderful concerned staff. I needed a storm window repaired that had broken lower spring latches. Took it to a local repair shop and was told they could not repair it. Was referred to Mt.Pleasant hardware.It was repaired and saved a very good storm door from going to the landfill. Great Job. read more

Yelp is such a tricky place to find information, isn't it? Strong opinions on both sides. Well, count me in with the people who love Mount Pleasant Hardware, and are scratching their heads when they see 1-star reviews. For 15 years I have been a homeowner in Elmhurst, and I feel so lucky that this has been my local hardware store through all the DIY projects. The store is well stocked, and the staff there have always been friendly and helpful. And I don't just mean at finding and ordering products; I can think of several occasions where someone took a few moments to explain a part or a tool to me and answer my questions, and even help with some creative problem-solving when I have run into unexpected trouble on projects and wasn't sure how to proceed. A smaller store of course means slightly--but only slightly--higher prices on most things. With a place like this, it's worth it. read more

they scam you with the uhaul trucks!! do not rent uhauls here! they charged me a "cleaning fee" for leaving a water bottle in the truck which was already there when I picked it up!!!!! from the other reviews I see they do this often and on purpose! call uhaul and report them, get your money back!! it does not cost $25 to pick up a water bottle, and if someone else left the truck like that why didn't they charge the previous person the cleaning fee and cleaned the truck? a literal water bottle, untrustworthy. read more

Support your local hardware store! I had a broken glass panel on an interior door and I tried finding a reliable handyman to come fix it but that was a job in itself! Fortunately a friend recommended I try True Value and I am very happy that I did. Not only was the price super reasonable compared to the crazy quotes I got from different handyman but if you bring in the door to True Value they offer same day service! I recommend to anyone who needs glass repair on a door or window. read more

Mt Pleasant Hardware is a great neighborhood store. They have great variety of household supplies, building materials and personal that walk you through projects. I have ordered materials through them...quick,fair price. Needed help with dyi..took project to their workers...again happy w results. They did a great job throughout Covid pandemic... were able to serve community safely. Did I mention staff... awesome, knowledgeable and I enjoy myself going there. You do not have to spend time looking for help when u are there. read more

Bad Customer Service This location was recommended to me for replacing/repairing windows in my home. We went to visit the store, and spoke to Tony, who took down my information for his window tech to contact me. The next business day, I got a call, and scheduled my appointment, and took the time off work to make it happen. Flash forward to the Friday morning that the appointment was scheduled for. 9am was the appointed time. After half an hour of waiting (traffic, or just being a little late), I call to ask where the tech is. Upon speaking to the first person that answered the phone, and explained what the situation was, she took my info, and explained that she would investigate, and call back. Less than ten minutes later, Tony had called back. He explained that the tech wasn't doing because he was "working on another job." He offered to reschedule on Monday morning, but losing another day of work for this isn't worth the uncertainty if the tech will decide to come or not. No call prior to explain this; just leaving me high and dry, and losing a day of work, for a contractor to not even call to say he wasn't coming. read more

Conveniently located to me I have been to this hardware store several times. In the past a tall gentleman with glasses would help me and he was such an awesome person to communicate with. I came into the store feeling as if whatever I needed, the employees would be willing to help. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take on a project, changing door knobs. Not impossible. I went in asking an employee about how to do a certain task. He blatantly told me I could not do the task because I "was a woman." I found it that extremely insulting. I didn't want to argue with someone who had made such an ignorant comment. I told him he was wrong and that a woman could do anything a man could. His response, "no, they can't". I came back a week or so later and complained. Now, just a few days ago I went back in to purchase a few small things. The manager was assisting me this time. From the get go he had given me an attitude and a hard time to where I could find something. Apparently this is his funny character that most customers know him for. While I was checking out he asked me, "is there anything else I can do to you?" I responded, "Excuse me? I think you mean for me..." "No, TO YOU." I was so angry and insulted. I left very upset. My boyfriend eventually went back to the store and talked to the manager personally. He apologized and said he did not mean anything by it. From my poor experience at this place and the way the management and employee have made me feel uncomfortable, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

If you are looking for great deals and aisles upon aisles of product, this hardware store will come as a disappointment. On the other hand if helpful, knowledgable staff are your thing then support this nearly last of it's kind. A true neighborhood shop in every sense of the expression, you must admit that there is something about caring employees who ask about why you are there, listen and then give advice. And how awesome is it when you can ask anyone in the place where something is and they either walk you there or give such a thorough description of it's whereabouts that you can practically see what you came there for before you even have it in front of you? Pretty awesome if you ask me. And awesome is Mount Pleasant Hardware. I'll pay a bit more for this kind of service, rather than having to wait around for someone to mix my paint, cut my key or misguide me to the wrong end of the store - as is usually my experience with the evil orange giant. read more

I have been living on and off in Providence for most of my life, and some things just don't need change. My favorite memory of this store was when I was sitting in the paint section with my head in my hands, trying to figure out if the color I picked out was going to be what I needed for my sculpture final piece. The heat was oppressive, I was working on little to no food (who remembers to eat during final crits??) and just overwhelmed. The owner walked over, asked "Rough day, huh?" and then smiled and handed me a Klondike bar. He then went out and passed out the remaining ones to his employees. Things like this remain permanent in my heart because of how simple ice cream and his kindness made life seem doable. Flash-forward, years later, and this is one of the few places we could find a printed brochure of historical colors. Helpful as always, one day while going in for more research, the nice young lady at the counter honestly told me she wouldn't feel confident in her ability to mix what I needed and let me know when someone skilled in paint would be next in. For keeping it local, I will keep going here forever. And probably bring my kids one day.... with Klondike bars in the heat of the summer. read more

Great neighborhood store, they have a great supply, good knowledgeable help and when I measured the glass I needed cut wrong (two times) they smiled said no problem, cut it again for me free of charge! It's been a long time since I received that kind of service. read more
