I had better experience when I come at 6:30 vs at 7:30pm, but again it was different waiter. Food selections are very broad, they have sushi, appetizer, veggies, meat, and seafood selection. I did not order the sushi, the size of the roll are doubles, so I skipped it. But I did order few apppetizer and it was okay. The bbq itself, its hard to say because everyone has different palate. The meat did not have much flavor but that is depend how you like it. I enjoy eating plain, original and simple because I could add seasoning according to my taste. The waitress that served us was Strawberry, what a cute name. She is great, she attended to our tables attentively. There was no order missed at all. Everything came just the way it was ordered. We did not have to wait long for the meat orders, refill on the water/ hot tea. And she is always walking around picking up every empty plates so our tables consistently have space for more. The place itself is very nice and clean and not too smokey like the regular bbq restaurant. This place is absolutely insane - I can't believe such a good deal exists. I was able to make a reservation about a week out for 4 people, and we snagged a private booth outdoors that was warm enough while the grill was going. I'm not sure if we received exceptional service because my brother knows the owner, but he said that he thinks the service would've been excellent regardless. After all, it's not like they were friends before or anything; he had come with a big group with someone who goes so often that the owner now knows him. We were very pleasantly surprised by how often servers came by to check on us and ask if we needed anything else. The food is stunningly diverse - we didn't even opt for any of the sushi rolls, though they certainly looked good. We mostly kept to the grilled meats/seafood - duck breast, kalbi, pork belly, mussels, clams, scallops, squid, and marinated meats. We grilled the meat ourselves, and I would say that it was fairly good quality even without any sauce. That said, there isn't very good sauce selection, so I'm glad the meats were good enough. We also got a seafood pancake that was really satisfying (and not too big - it had four pieces, which was perfect for the four of us). They also had a corn-cheese appetizer that was in a little aluminum boat that looked good, but I was way too full by then. We also ordered pitchers of the juices (not sure how much they cost, but they are cheaper than ordering individual juices). We got the two sweetest ones that they recommended and I loved both - they were really refreshing and paired excellently with the heavy meat. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food here was delicious!! It's $37.95 per person for the buffet, and we definitely got our money's worth. They have so many different meats to choose from, and some seafood. Our favorite in the group was pork feet, big clams, oysters, scallops, argentine shrimp, squid (especially the tentacles), and the various beef slices. We had a great waitress named Suki! Since it was our first time coming here, she explained to us how we would know when different seafood was cooked. She was very easy to communicate with, and even laughed along with some of our crazy jokes at the table. We also called ahead of time to make sure they would allow us to bring a cake to celebrate my friend's birthday. They allowed us to bring the cake, and brought it out at the end of our meal. I took off one star for my review because the grill at the table is super small. Before ordering, we requested for the items to be split into 2 separate servings to make it easier between the two tables. However, we were told that the chef was not willing to do this, which seemed a bit strange. (Update: the chef clarified in a later message that this is due to the high volume during rush dinner hours, which is totally understandable. Appreciate the clarification!) Shokunin definitely has one of the most extensive JBBQ AYCE menus, but this is also reflected in the price of $42/pp. The menu has wide selection of meats, vegetables, seafood, and sushi (sashimi is not included in AYCE). Personally, the seafood options were not my favorite, and the sushi comes with a HUGE amount of rice. Highly recommend just focusing on the meats, which were actually quite good. This place is my Brooklyn's friend favorite place to celebrate their birthdays. Why? Because it is an AYCE BBQ and sushi + BYOB + you can karaoke while you eat AND you can get your own private room. There's BBQ tables outside if you don't want to sing but I think this place is only worth it if you get the private room. There was 20 of us and we paid $55 each. Service - They are attentive. There is a service button in the room where you can press and they show up. They are quick in answering. Food - This is where they need to improve. The meats were supposedly marinated but it lacked flavor. The meats were also hard to chew. The seafood also had a fishy smell and taste. The sushi had 90% rice and 10% fish and the rice was mushy. It had a lot more rice than most AYCE sushi places I've been to. Only the cooked items were good like chicken skewers, tempura shrimp, fries, fried dumplings, etc. I was hungry when I arrived but after trying the food, I lost my appetite. I was only 20% full. Honestly, we'll probably still keep coming here for birthdays because it's tradition and we love to sing. All the other stuff makes up for the food and It is still a good time. read more

My review wasn't that favorable but after my second visit, things have improved for sure! I came with a large party and we booked a room for a birthday dinner. Service was much better this time and we were able to order plenty of food. Since we had a room, there was also free karaoke. They also had a new ventilation system installed and the smoke definitely reduced from my first visit. When I got home after dinner, I realized I did not had any lingering smell of smoke in my clothes or hair at all, unlike last time. I came to this location twice, and the two times that I came here I had two very different experiences. The first time I came with my friends it was on a Saturday afternoon, and the server was great food not as great. This review is based off my most recent visit. I came with a group of friends, they were able to accompany us without an reservation, but I was quite surprised there was a bit of a wait on a Monday evening. This is a all you can eat including sushi, skewers and Korean BBQ. Recommend highly, the chicken skewers, it was done to perfection, so juicy and well seasoned. They have different types of meats, my favorite is the fatty beef in small slices, and the cheese and corn. The most recent time I went the food is amazing compared to the first time, however the service was horrible. We sat for 30 minutes without our order being taken, and when we wanted to order more food we had to flag down the waiters. Half of the food didn't come, but it was okay we were too stuffed to finish. The star off was for the service, along with the sticky menus. But I love how they diverted from the typical Korean bbq and hotspot and sushi road. They specialize in JAPANESE bbq. I've seen a couple of people complain and compare it to Korea bbq but let me remind you that the two cuisines are different ! Now that's out of the way, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this place ! The food was amazing the environment was amazing the service was also amazing!! Was a little skeptical about trying a new all you can eat Korean and Japanese barbecue spot especially during COVID 19. However this place has been nothing short of amazing. For the first week of reopening they are offering all you can drink Orion tap beer from Japan. The only drawback is that it is outdoor seating and in mid July the temperatures are around 90° with a decent amount of humidity. The staff is beyond amazing, they are friendly and accommodating and patient and they really take care of the customers by explaining everything on the menu. Obviously the menu is going to have a couple of things not in stock due to the quarantine but for the most part the menu is complete. All the food was very fresh and tasty, even the sea food was very good. I will say that the seasoning could be a little stronger usually it's over seasoned however this place really lets the food shine through. I simply adjusted by asking for a little bit of salt. The staff was really friendly and really took care of my children, they gave them marshmallows (for free) It's a roast over the fire which was a really really nice touch. The floors felt very sticky and gross when stepping on it... the food is not great but its decent given that its a buffet. The variety is pretty good. We got iced drinks and total came about to be about 50 including tax and tip per person. Feel like its not really worth the price. Would give 3.5 stars- they have wipes and sanitizer on the tables. Solid Korean / Japanese AYCE bbq in Brooklyn, and a plus that there is outdoor seating. Ever since COVID-19 began I have been craving Korean BBQ and this place definitely did not disappoint. Pros: - Beautiful backyard area with grills so the issue of smelling like meat when you leave a Korean BBQ restaurant is minimized. Did not feel like I was in Brooklyn (which is a good thing!) - This place is sanitary. I watched the staff disinfect tables surrounding me when the customers left. A whole container of Clorox wipes was provided for the table as well as an entire bottle of hand sanitizer. This really stood out to me since I have never seen any restaurant go to the lengths this one did to ensure health and safety. - The food choices are great. The pork cheek was tender and flavorful, as well as many of the beef choices (although I can't tell you what I ate, I honestly don't know.) - TAKOYAKI! Not many places sell takoyaki, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it on the menu. Although the dough to octopus ratio could be better, my group loved that it wasn't overcooked each time we got it & constantly ordered more. - Seafood choices were good! Surprised to see you could order sushi (not sashimi, as they charge extra for that) on top of the BBQ menu. The grilled seafood was flavorful. The Tuna Martini (has no idea what it was, pretty much was tuna with avocado on a Pringle?) was interesting. Cons: - The staff was pretty inattentive to the customers when we went. Understandably they were busy disinfecting tables, but when it came to ordering more food or getting their attention it was quite difficult. The staff was young and it seemed like their friends were enjoying a meal at the table next to us, so they were occupied the whole time by hanging out with them instead of focusing on customers. - More on the staff - they will get your order wrong. It wasn't a big deal to us but with most it would be. A few times we ordered items and either never received them/ received something completely different. The customer service at this place overall is subpar. - The cheese corn (under the name BBQ corn) has no flavor, which was disappointing. Also wish they had the steamed eggs that I usually get at Korean BBQ. - Many of the items were out of stock. Don't expect to be able to get everything on this menu. - Don't expect to know what you're getting in front of you. When you place your order and get it, almost everything looks the same. The names on the menu were all enticing but when they came out, we couldn't tell what was what. This became difficult when trying to reorder items since the staff had no idea what anything was either. Overall, this place was a hidden gem in Brooklyn. Moving onto the meat quality, I definitely had better. The service was very mediocre and I became slightly annoyed. At one point, the waitress forgot one of the meats we ordered for about almost half an hour until we reminded her again. The place was busy and our servers seemed to be in a rush every time we wanted to place another order or when they were cooking our food. I did enjoy my fresh juice though (apple, ginger, pineapple, watermelon) -- that was what I remembered being super delicious. I was then lead to the back of the restaurant where they have their outdoor seating set up. Each table has a container of Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer (yay!). Very cute and spacious outdoor backyard dining experience. This was my first Japanese bbq experience and it was very good but not great. One of the best parts was the variety of options available, especially if you're coming with a large group. They have all types of meats of course, but also have all the vegetables you could want to grill and sushi rolls to eat as well (& no extra cost for those fancy rolls!). You can even get chicken nuggets and french fries if you so desire and they do not skimp on their portions for an AYCE place. Brooklyn lacks AYCE Korean BBQs places but if you are craving it, this place is a great alternative. Especially if you live in Brooklyn and want to avoid a trip to Queens or Fort Lee. The array of meat and seafood is amazing. I would recommend the Korean kalbi (which they use to bring out in a cool urn but they forgo that now.) The meat really is tender and if it has enough marinate on it, it's flavorful. The seafood here is amazing too! Every time we come here, it's been fresh. Our favorites are the scallop, clam in bbq sauce, and Argentine shrimp which are really prawns, with the head on! Two issues which I wish they'd work on are: 1. SUSHI: I'd stay clear of the sushi as it always comes with a lot of rice and very little fish. Also, most of the time it's not very fresh. Definitely something I'd wish they'd improve on then I'd seriously would go every other week. 2. CLEANLINESS: Understandable this place is a BBQ place where things are cooked on the table and grease can accumulate but you can feel the grime that's build up on the table, the chairs, sauce plates etc. They need a serious scrubbing of the place so the place doesn't feel questionable once you sit down. Came here for a birthday party and we booked a private room. The fact it was only 2 hour eating for the private room, the waiter order our food late and they were rushing to kick us out the room. Some of the food we order didn't even come out waited 2 hours. Service need to be improved, the waiter need to take our orders down and not rush and kick customers out. read more
