First time trying Simon's bbq. Random adventure with my boyfriend. We walked inside at 2:30am and the place was packed! Google maps stated they closed at 3am however they actually don't close until 3:30am. We ordered the beef, bbq chicken, Malaysian sausage, chicken wings, bbq shrimp and meat balls. The food was very flavorful especially the shrimp! It was our first time trying the iced tea and the green tea and omg I am addicted. We took some food to go and the food was delicious the next day. Two things I didn't like about Simons. Firstly, the lamb and crispy chicken weren't available on the menu. However, since we went so late I figured that could've been a reason they were sold out. Secondly, my man went to pay with his DEBIT card and they charged a processing fee and sales tax which added $10 on the bill. Merchants can only charge CREDIT cards for processing fees. Technically we were illegally. The staff was very accommodating and attentive. We were the only African Americans in the restaurant but they made us feel welcomed. Most of the barbecue has a cumin based seasoning which I liked. The service was inattentive. We had to go up and get our own water and menus. The icy rice was unspeakably balanced with peanuts, coconut jelly, raisin, boba, rice, ice and fresh cut melons, surprisingly not too sweet, but just so balanced. Mussels were juicy and well marinated. Squid and fish tofu were amazing. The fried bun is a must try but we ordered too much and couldn't finish :( Lamb rack was INSANE. People have bigger hands than me but just for your reference I can pick up a basketball with one hand and reach 10 keys on a piano. If you are looking for a savory, hot, late-night snack, Simons BBQ is the perfect spot. I came here around 11 pm and was seated immediately after they checked vaccination cards. Their menu was extensive, offering a large variety of meats and vegetables. We ended up ordering about 30 sticks, including the bbq beef, squid tentacles, rice cakes, fish tofu, bacon and mushroom, and squid body. We also got the sweet potato and eggplant, which were both delicious. I especially liked the eggplant because of the bbq sauce they dressed it with and it was grilled to perfection. Being truthfully honest, I enjoyed all the skewers because I cannot get enough of their sauce which was smoky, savory, and sweet. My favorite had to be the beef skewers because of how juicy the meat was and was not dry at all. I will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area because i can order a couple skewers as a small snack or a lot to fill me up as a meal. It's like sitting at a Hong Kong street eat only its indoors. The uncle that took our order was freaking hilarious it's kind of charming. He kept coming over to give us recommendations and give us life lessons. There are a lot of varieties that we didn't know what to choose. Not to worry, uncle helped us. We did short rib, beef, lamb, bacon wrapped enoki, cauliflower, chicken gizzard, egg plant, and a dozen mussels. Doesn't sound like a lot but it's very filling and delicious. A super local bbq chain where they don't speak much English - you can also order through WeChat. I really liked the rice cakes: they were super chewy, slightly crispy because of the grill and the sauce they used really matched the rice cake. They use the same sauce for all of the skewers and it's a slightly savory and sweet sauce. This time, it was a bit more sweet than usual. I wish it had a little more cumin in it, but still enjoyed my meal. To be honest, I like the vegetable skewers here more than the meats. The beef and lamb are quite stiff and not juicy, even more so if you get takeout since they get cold. The processed meats like fish tofu are better because those stay juicy no matter what. I recommend the rice cakes, fish tofu, and chives. I liked the Taiwanese sausage too but they only gave a small one for over $1 which is kinda not worth it. read more

Looking at the menu I wasn't sure what to order or how it was going to be served. I asked a few questions and to my surprise I found a "food on a stick" restaurant. Meats, vegetables, seafood, and dessert all on a stick!!! The restaurant is small with a few tables for dine in customers, so I decided to get my food to go. I ordered the chicken, lamb, and string beans. The lamb was good, but a bit too tough for my taste. The string beans were well seasoned with great crunch. The chicken was the star of the stick food show. The chicken was very juicy, well seasoned, and a flavor experience from the first bite to the last. I usually go to mr q instead but this place is a friends friend so he insisted to give them business instead which is cool with me. We ordered many different skewers, ranging from meats to vegetables to seafood. Everything was delicious and yummy (no, I was not intoxicated or drunk). I noticed that they wet and flavor the stuff with sauce which I'm not use to and a fan of, normally like it with dry rub + spices, but I'm glad I got to try this place. They're usually one of the cheapest and definitely one of the most delicious options available. They have a spicy seasoning that you can put on yourself, and it added a big time kick. Without giving it a try first, I sprinkled it on all my skewers and couldn't stop sweating the entire time. Don't make the same mistake I did, try a little bit and see if you can handle it before putting it on everything. The one downside I experienced was that "the noodle guy isn't in tonight". We were really disappointed because we were craving noodles. It would've been perfect, nice bowl of noodles with some skewers on the side. The boss lady said, "she's new and put down the wrong order for us, how about we call it even?" The easier thing to do is taking it away and make some sweet potato fries. I like their skewers a lot when I lived in the neighborhood. So even when I moved, I still missed their food and ordered from them for delivery. My friend told me that they do delivery to 18th Ave. However, the delivery guy has an attitude towards me. He called me before he arrives to the location and he was complaining that I should've mentioned that I lived in 19th Ave not 18th Ave since my house number is nearly towards the end of 18th Ave. Moreover, He said that I would need to order $50 and above since I lived that far. But the thing is that I did told the receptionist my complete address (including the house number) when I placed my order and he told me it is $30 and above on the phone. So they should've said $50 not $30 above at the beginning, not towards the end of the delivery. The delivery guy is very annoying and keep talking to me in mandarin and fujianese throughout the call. Have he ever consider that the customer don't understand fujianese at all?! I don't wanna argue with him so I just asked if he's there. The guy lied to me and made me waited at the door for another 5 mins as he claimed that he was here. He wouldn't shut his mouth until he received my money and the tips. The restaurant is okay but it is not the very best at all or even close to it. The restaurant was very hot in the summer with the AC basically not working. When entering the restaurant the staff seems nice but ten minutes in one of the worker just starts to yell at another worker. Later when out first meal is brought out to us we asked for a small bowl to share and we weren't able to hear a response so we asked again and the lady that worked there flipped and yelled at us for asking for a bowl.
