Went here once, but won't be a regular. The food was decent. Two downfalls of this restaurant. 1.We had made a reservation and when we arrived we were taken to the second floor to the back corner table right outside the kitchen door. We asked if we could be moved but they said that there was no other seats available. We decided to make the best of it.... 2. We were having a pleasant meal until we realized that they were keeping the salad we had just eaten in a garbage can. We also saw one of the waitstaff reaching into the garbage, can grabbing a handful of lettuce, and plop in a plate to bring out to a guest. Discovered this place a while back, and have been coming here for quite some time now. Still to this day they are the better of the the hibachi restaurants, but far from the best. You pay more than average, and lately the quality of the food has been decreasing, and they mask it with butter, soy Sauce and garlic to tenderize it. 90% of the steaks they're serving and passing off is tough and VERY fatty. When restaurants do this it's a sign of greed in my book. When you order hibachi steak, your getting a 1/4" piece of beef. Don't even bother ordering the rib eye because your paying for pure fat. So I've never been to this place but have passed it numerous times on my way down to the shore. We decided to have a birthday party for my sister here since they do the disco ball and sparklers - all festive stuff and what not- but honestly this place is nasty.. Not clean (which is something I noticed long before finding this gem of a hair in my plate of food). I've worked in many restaurants and understand that there is always a certain level or cleanliness but between the plate with the finger smudges, looking at a dirty hibachi table and then waiting over an hour to be served - I honestly don't think I could recommend this place to anyone. 100% will not be returning and could not be more disappointed we picked this place to celebrate. read more

Last night it was my first time at legends, my two friends had dine before, right apron arrival, the hostess took our temperature which is fine considering the time we live on, we were sitting at our table , decided to order cocktail, sake,and a bottle of wine,wine (which)took 15 minutes to arrive, my friends had already cocktails on the table and their appetizers, my appetizers where Mia,finally my wine showed up along with my appetizers, at this point my friends were done with their appetizers, they were done with their cocktails, one order another, the waitress never asked anyone else on the table if we needed any more cocktails, now we are ready to order our entrees, to which she seam annoyed because I said earlier,where is the wine? Anyways, now she says ok what do you want?, what do I want? First of all....she never apologize for the wine being lost, now what do you want?,we order our entrees,plus we order more cocktails, to which one arrived to the table only, when we point out that we order more than one cocktail, she said again what do you want?......the food was ok,not the best, I had better, now that I know how bad the service is, I will not returned,I don't want to be treated like that. read more

The restaurant's decor is very impressive and it WANTS to be a high end New York City restaurant, but sadly, it is not and never will be. Shogun knows how to put on a good show, for sure, but can they perform in the kitchen? Well, sort of. I ordered the appetizer special of the day, lobster dumplings in a coconut milk broth, which was absolutely delicious. The lobster was buttery and the sauce was light, yet flavorful. It was a completely perfect start to a meal and got me in the mood for some good lobster, which brings me to my entree disaster. I made a huge mistake when I decided to order the whole live Maine lobster with scallion sauce as my entree. The lobster dumplings I ate had me thinkin', "Hey, this place might just know how to cook a good lobster." but I was dead wrong. TOUGH like a prison inmate. RUBBERY like the Goodyears on my Altima. FISHY like an aquarium. AWFUL like a Jennifer Lopez movie. The scallion "sauce" was also disgusting, reminiscent of dishwater laced with raw onion. The dish was literally inedible, leading me to do something I NEVER do... I sent it back. That's right, I did it. I sent it back. They gave me some overcooked filet mignon dish as my second entree but at that point, my appetite had been destroyed and I could not eat it. For dessert, my friend and I split a fried ice cream and mochi, both of which were quite delicious. The service was nothing special. Our waiter was pleasant, but we had a strange bald man in a suit hovering behind our table throughout the entire meal, staring us down as if we were going to steal the place settings. It made me very uncomfortable. I can't completely hate on this place, because those dumplings did make me very happy inside, but the lobster left a few shank wounds in my culinary soul. I did what I could to patch them up with some mochi and tempura ice cream, but the scars will always remain. I will give Shogun Legends another chance, for certain, but I definitely will NOT let them destroy another poor, innocent lobster at my expense. read more

I've been her twice and I don't think there will be a third time. Legends is a beautiful restaurant that serves about half Sushi and half everything else. The service is very good. The problem I had was that I ate Sushi the day before and wanted something else. I found myself staring at the menu long after the remainder of my table had decided on their entrees and I couldn't find anything I wanted to eat. They were out of their famous razor clams so I got the beef tartar for $19 to start with. I got about an ounce of beef with a drizzle of oil so needless to say I felt it was a bit small for the cost ($300/lb. for beef?). When I asked the waitress for some bread, she said they didn't have any. She then added that "people ask for bread all of the time." Hint: If your customers are asking for something as cheap as bread, serve them bread. She gave me a bowl of rice "on the house." Wow - Thanks! I finally settled on the scallops for $30 as an entrée. I got six Panko-breaded scallops with another bowl of rice which worked out to $5/scallop. At this point, including my $17 sake, I'm up to $66 and I'm already thinking about hitting McDonald's on the way home because I'm still hungry. Adding in my desert and coffee drove the price to the point where I felt like I was being gouged -- because I was. I don't mind spending money but I do mind leaving hungry after doing so. For $100 or so for just me, I think I should have been given enough food to leave full. I'm not a big eater and weigh a mere 165 pounds so it's not like I expect a huge meal but the servings I got were just too small to justify the high prices. read more

This place looks amazing. Will like to return and give it one more chance because some photos on yelp looks good. Staff is friendly. I stopped in for lunch ordered the heavenly chicken for a whopping $20.00. The chicken was cut into these odd shapes and some pieces were hard and chewy. Nothing heavenly about this. Rice was cooked well. For $20.00 you would expect the "filet mignon" of chicken breasts that's cooked to order and super tender. For now my stars remain at 2 until I revisit with the wife. read more

I don't even know how to start rating this place since we had such a mind blowing experience. We went there because we were driving down to AC for a canto-pop (i know i know but Chinese people do that) concert and this was right along the way. We got there around 9 and just asked for some good sushi. One of our friends had eaten there previously so he knew what types of sushi were good. We were also lucky enough to catch the owner and had a few words with him about good sushi, which was really enlightening. He basically told us that amaebi (sweet shrimp, one of my favorites!!!... well WAS anyway) is really full of bacteria/parasites that we probably would flip out if we saw it under the microscope. He, instead, introduced us to the paradise shrimp, which TOTALLY blew my mind! Amaebi, I love you, but... I'm sorry... this was just unbelievable! Well as a foodie I just have a lot of respect for any restaurant owner who takes the time to actually learn about the food and even though he does not prepare them, he knows how they are prepared and he makes sure that everything is in good order. I think that's someone who respects food and the industry. I think I would trust that all the sushi/sashimi there would be fresh because for someone who has such high standards for food, I don't think he would allow his restaurant to serve food that is not fresh. We had the peking duck. The buns were so good! Steamed dumplings were excellent and we had a blast with the desserts!!! Oh, let me not forget, the wonton soup was excellent as well... I think we actually fought for that soup... which had NEVER happened before with 4 Chinese people eating wonton soup. And although the setting was a bit dark, I really like the huge fish tank in the middle. It really made for great entertainment while we waited for the food. The service was excellent. It had a unique look to it, and will definitely be ordered in future visits. - The Filet Mignon was very good, and was portioned generously. - The Fried Rice and Noodles were excellent, and were once again provided in generous portions. The accompanying vegetables were a little too lightly seasoned, but the robust flavors in the rice and noodles more than made up for it. - Service was very good and they were very attentive to our party's needs. - The hibachi table show was standard, but engaging. - All drinks were provided with more than an adequate amount of alcohol (not overly watered down). read more

Ok - if you're looking for a nice hibachi/sushi restaurant for a special occasion, this place is probably fit for it. They try to create an upscale, hip atmosphere that makes people feel special i guess. I've been here both for hibachi and regular dinner, and the food is definitely satisfactory. I like that they have a lot of meat choices for hibachi (i've tried duck and tuna) and their sushi is pretty standard. Quality is good, although i feel they overcharge on most items. We went one night for regular dinner, and waited about an hour and 45 min for our main course. The manager compensated with free drinks, but not before asking my husband to take his hat off. Up to that point, i had no idea we were in an upscale manhattan sushi restaurant (which we have been to, where he has never been asked to remove his hat). Come on shogun, you're in the middle of wall township on the jersey shore, let's not pretend we're in some fancy pants ny restaurant. just because you charge almost as much, doesn't mean you can't fool us. we know where we are. this turned us off so much that we haven't been back since. i don't miss it - you can get the same quality sushi and hibachi elsewhere in the area. read more

Great experience over all. From the moment we walked in, there were good vibes, nice staff. Bar is set up nice, drinks were tastey and I appreciate the bartenders prompt response. Our food consisted off (apps) steamed dumplings, spring rolls - sauces were good, the one is extra spicy! meals: one specialty roll, spicy tuna roll, a steak dish and the Pad Thai which is soooooo good dessert: Mango cheesecake The only thing I would say is it is a little pricey, not terribly. Went here not for the hibachi but for the sit down menu. First off the service that we had for the night was great. We were willing to try a lot of new things and the server was making some great selections for us. Our server was also very attentive to our large group and even made our son laugh a bunch of times. First thing about the food was that it was pricey. However I've been to a number of these hibachi restaurants and they are all similar in price. The food was really worth it though. I had the Volcano Steak and it comes out on fire so the presentation is really great. The steak itself was cooked exactly how I asked (med. rare) and there was no doubt that this was good and spicy as they said it would be. I really enjoy hot food and thought this was done perfectly. The sushi was very fresh and we enjoyed a number of different selections from that menu. Overall the food was great and we will likely be visiting here again. The atmosphere downstairs was very nice. They keep the lights low and there is a huge fish tank in the middle of the place that seperates the bar downstairs from the sit down portion. The hibachi is upstairs and as many have said we could hear it from where we were sitting so I would guess it gets pretty loud up there. Wouldn't go up there if you're looking for a quiet night out so have that in mind when choosing this place. The only other thing I would suggest if you choose to dine here is there was a lot of very well dressed people. It didn't appear that the restaurant was strict with what you wear but if you are wearing a t-shirt and jeans you will be out of place with the rest of the crowd. Enjoy! read more

Hibachi area upstairs is obnoxious and unimaginably loud, an absolute circus. I came in on a Saturday for dinner and the staff was disorganized, resulting in a missing entree and appetizer. Downstairs is quieter with the feel of a trendy lounge, but c'mon... blue LED lights coming out of the floor? Do you want to be a restaurant or a nightclub? Hibachi places are a dime a dozen, and the size and spectacle of this place make it stand out, I suppose. I do like the menu's variety, and the food quality was good (albeit overpriced). But I'd rather have a more peaceful dining experience. read more

Fancy rice and raw fish. Two things I didn't order at shogun last night. My dumb ass goes to this swanky sushi spot and orders the filet and scallops. A duo that rang over $30 for some hibachi chef to whip together. Not exciting, nor is it something I'd come back to shoguns for. Aside from the mediocre entree the rest of the experience was awesome. Ambiance, a casual drink list and some boujee sake. At a Japanese place why isn't the edamame placed on the table like a loaf of bread at an Italian joint? The apps ordered were pretty good. Take all the other fake foodies advice and order the razor clams. Spring rolls were boring and same as the dumplings. The calamari was fried with a tempura that after being plated turns soggy. Went here last week for hibachi. Gotta say this place is up there for one of the best hibachi places I've been to. Staff is tremendously friendly, fun, and attentive! Lychee martini was soooo good. We even did sake bombs and that was awesome! Staff got a big kick outta that, so that was pretty funny. We started with a special sushi roll (I forget the name, something spicy and with tempura) but also very good. Did the lobster hibachi and it was AMAZING. Not to mention, I've never had a Spanish hibachi chef before but man this dude Jet Blue is HILARIOUS!! He made hibachi more fun than any place I've been to yet. Overall, this place is great, just be careful because you could totally get bombed here, haha. Would definitely recommend and definitely coming back soon. read more

Came here with a friend who loves this place and loves to over indulge. I don't have the broadest sushi palate which means that I often get the same thing. THAT means that I've had maybe 50 different salmon rolls from 50 different sushi restaurants in the last couple of years. This was the best salmon roll I have ever had, ever, including the $25 dollar salmon pieces from MoriMoto in NYC-- OH-MY-GOD. THE.BEST.EVER. Nice ambiance, funny crowd at the bar. Went here for my bday with a bunch of friends. We were up stairs in the Hibachi section and had a room reserved for us, which is an awesome idea for large parties. Their sushi was about as fresh as you can get it. Our group ordered a bunch as apps. Recommend their spicy tuna. Best spicy tuna I've ever had and I am a big fan of sushi. The place is nice. Typical Hibachi setting, but a little classier. They had a bunch of kids bday parties going on as well, which a little noisy. That can be expected as they get extra excited at the hibachi show. Service was top notch. We were well taken care of from the drink server to our hibachi chef. The drinks were well made and strong. Their beer selection was good and well priced. Price- Not sure some of the price comments on here. This price is right in line with other hibachi places. Their quality is far superior. I agree their sushi is about 2 more dollars than a typical sushi place for their special rolls, but nothing crazy. I am a fan of another sushi/hibachi place in the area Sawa. In general I to compare the two Sawa's sushi was about the same, maybe priced slightly better. But Shogun legends hibachi is way better than Sawa. If I had to choose between the 2 I probably would roll Shogun. (Other difference is Shogun serves alchohol, Sawa BYOB). read more

This is place has the best sashimi I have ever had in my life. It is ridiculously fresh and the fish doesn't taste too fishy. I think they put a bit of sugar in the soy sauce to make it taste the way it does, and it tastes amazing! Most of the appetizers and desserts were amazing. For the entree, get the sashimi bowl! It is a huge party in your mouth. The rest of the entrees were good (still worth trying), but the sashimi one is the best. You're probably not going to like this place a lot if you don't like raw fish or fish in general. Their best dishes are all fish... The wifey and I always enjoy ourselves here when we trek down south and meet friends at Shogun Legends, We do not sit at the hibachi, although i Hear it it quite good. The regular menu isinteresting. The sushi is good, although their rolls tend to be heavy on the tempura (specialty rolls). The wait staff is friendly and do a decent job, despite being a bit inexperienced. The hostesses here are quite fetching, but completely clueless. One hostess asked us to follow her, before the coat check took our coats, and was clear across the restaurant before she realized we werent behind her. I really enjoy coming here. The food is always tasty, service is typically on point and they have a nice wine and cocktail selection. If you are a dessert eater, the banana bonsai is not to be missed! My only complaint is that you get the impression the entire staff will turn into pumpkins at midnight. They shut it down pretty early here, and if you are lingering over a bottle of wine, they have no problem applying pressure to let you know it's time to wrap it up. Tried Shogun Legends on 7/23 and overall it is a 4 star quality restaurant. Really awsome restaurant decor and atmosphere. I loved the blue lights on the floor guiding you to your tables. The fish tank was really cool [ plenty of room for the tropical fish to swim around ] The bathrooms were nicely air conditioned and clean. I tried the sushi and the sushi was very fresh. Expensive, but of very good quality. My main course was the peking duck. It was ok, but I would probably try something else next time [ maybe steak or chicken ] "The Bald Guy" was my waiter and was very professional. This is a nice place. I wouldn't come here if you are looking like a bag that came from the ocean, or if you are looking for a Homer Applebees / Chilis experience. Always have enjoyed the food here and always had good service. Tonight I walked in a little before 9pm (they close at 10). No one was at the host stand to seat... around 5 or so minutes later- the very RUDE manager came over to seat us (there was only 2 of us) and didn't greet us very nicely- all he said was... "we're closing in a few minutes, I'll seat you now but you need to order right away". As someone who works in hospitality, I should have known just to walk right out. Very unwelcoming and unprofessional to say to a paying customer- one who will not be going back. The whole dining experience was made uncomfortable and very rushed. Went there 2 weeks ago on a Friday night. We made a reservation for 545 pm and good thing we did because by 615 pm, the place was packed. We ordered a vegetarian sushi roll because I'm pregnant, pork fried rice for the toddler, pad Thai and steak. We were disappointed at the service: the waitress didn't know what a virgin drink was and she seemed disinterested in the questions we were asking. We were excited to try the food after the reviews but I think the best part was the pork fried rice... very little oil and lots of flavor. Everything else was just ok. For the price of the steak , we were expecting something amazing , but that too was just ok. Overall, may go back to try a sushi roll after a few months and to grab a drink, but will not go again for dinner. read more

My family and I ate here on a Saturday nite at 6:30 and we sat right away which I was very happy about and the waitress was very good. She came over right away for our drink order. Things were progressing nicely but the food was just ok. The rice and noodle were over cooked and it just didn't have that hibachi taste and the veggies were bland. The protein was good(shrimp). So with all that said why go back for just an ok restaurant. There are better places to go to read more
