Had dinner last night at Shkodra Byrek and it was excellent. We were lucky to arrive a bit early on a Friday with no reservation and we were seated immediately. The place got very busy after that! We ordered several appetizers and two meals. Everything was so delicious, we were fighting over the leftovers first thing this morning. Both the tomato and beef pies were amazing, we'll be back just for these. The branzino was fresh with tomatoey potatoes and arugula salad on the side. My husband said the sausages were delicious. The portions were just the right size. They also have a kids menu so our little boy was happy too. All of the food is fresh, creative, and tastes homemade. This is increasingly rare to find! There are several more items on the menu I am looking forward to trying next time. How lucky are we to have such a gem right here in Dedham. Despite being very busy, the service was good. Because of the high ceilings and lack of sound dampening, it was quite loud but the vibes were great so we didn't mind. You need to try this gem! read more

Very hard to write a review for this place. The food has been fantastic every time we've been there. Really good! However, the service has been very poor, and last night was especially bad. We had a 7:30 reservation, but didn't get seated until 8:20. They looked overwhelmed and extremely disorganized. Eventually when we were seated a waiter came over and took a drink order. A few minutes later, a second waiter came over and said the first guy was not our waiter and he would need to take our drink order again. Many mistakes and sloppy service all night long. Located in the former El Centro restaruant in Dedham, Shkodra Byrek opened recently serving Mediterranean and Albanian cuisine. The place has rows of table seating with seat cushions and seating up at the full service bar. The bar serves a few draft beers, wine, cocktails and spirits. The food menu offers a selection of hot & cold appetizers, byrek & pies, grilled meat & seafood dishes, Albanian dishes, pasta, salads, soups, and a few desserts. The prices are moderate high. I stopped by recently for dinner and the place was very busy and noisy. I took a seat up at the bar and took a look over the menu. The bartender took a bit to take my order. I got an ice water and ordered a starter and entree. For a starter, Tarator me kunguj ($9 plus tax) a milky yogurt dip with baked zucchini, garlic, dill and olive oil and warm grilled pita bread on the side. The starter came out promptly, but the pita bread arrived 4 minutes later. This yogurt dip with the baked zucchini & pita bread was a pretty good start. For an entree, Makarona jufka me Pule Fshati ($23 plus tax) baked country style free-range chicken cut into pieces and served with pan fried homemade linguini, extra virgin olive oil,, Mediterranean herbs. The chicken was tender and I actually dipped some of the chicken into the yogurt dip. The portion of linguine pasta was modest and was a good oil pasta dish. After I was done, I got the check which was $34.24 with tax and before tip. Overall, a good dinner sitting at the bar and the service was adequate. I would definitely come back to try some more Albanian food again. read more

I'm so surprised this place is not on a top restaurants of Boston list. We were driving through the area recently and found it on a whim. Every dish we had was so flavorful, fresh, and rich--we tried the mezze trio, shepherds salad, manti, and beef stew. Just wow. The ambience feels so authentic too and the room is nicely decorated. Was there for lunch with friends. My friend who is Black was ignored by the waiter. He didn't pay attention to her and slighted her. This cannot happen ever anywhere! Atmosphere: 3.5/5 The noise level on the evening we visited was reasonable. One thing that stood out was the tap water, which had a strong chlorine taste. A simple water filtration system would make a noticeable difference. I suspect that many people (like us) are currently visiting because of the excitement and media attention surrounding the restaurant's opening. The real test will be whether first-time diners choose to come back. Based on our experience, I'm not convinced the overall value for the price will be enough to build a loyal base of returning customers. read more

I've gone 3x to this place. The food has been very good. These are what takes away from it. The waiters/waitress are super slow, like they don't comeback for 20 mins. I think it's because they only seem to have 2. The servers/bussers on the other hand seem to be more responsive. Each time I've had more luck with the bussers getting me stuff. The noise level is ridiculous. They play music so loud people have to talk louder so that amplifies how hard it is to hear in there. Fix these 2 issues and the place is easily 5 stars read more

Really great! Everything is so flavorful and the options are a lot different than anything else in the area. We went on opening night and have been back twice since (takeout last night). The various pies are really good (meat and onion was our favorite, spinach and feta is good, cheese and yogurt our least favorite). We've had a few appetizers too (all good). Dishes we've tried (and liked) included... MINCED BEEF STEW WITH RICE - got this twice and loved it both times STIL TIRANE - super flavorful and great with their homemade bread SHORT RIBS - got this last night and after adding a little salt it was terrific (super tender) MEDITERRANEAN MEAT DUMPLINGS - I loved these (tried last night) and will definitely get again It was good to see them really full last night (a Thursday). Shkodra Byrek is truly a hidden gem. The menu feels like it offers distinct "layers" of experiences--one highlight being the clay pot dishes, which include both vegetarian and keto-friendly options. Each dish is rich in flavor and clearly prepared with care. The appetizers deserve special mention--they're outstanding and easily a conversation starter on their own. There's a great variety to explore, and everything we tried was delicious. I was especially thrilled that they serve Turkish coffee (known by different names across the Middle East). It's the authentic style--very finely ground, unfiltered, and brewed in a small pot--strong, aromatic, and definitely a nice caffeine kick. As a bonus, I was able to catch a 2026 World Cup match while dining, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
