Truly a happy food snob. Turkish coffee and baklava for closers. Staff is amazing. I get how it might not be posh enough for those used to LA chic. We live about 4 hours up into Maine and I told my wife that if it involved eating here, I would drive her down twice a month. Places like this are the ONLY reason I would consider urban living. Our first time eating here on a recommendation and we were so glad we stopped in. The food choices are extensive from interesting salads and sandwiches to full dinner selections. We started with the feta Turkish Borek and side salad. We split the Turkish style stuffed peppers and the lamb shank, both were so flavorful and tender. Of course we had to try the walnut baklava which was oozing with honey as you cut into it, absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is charming and cozy. There is no alcohol served so bring your own. Mehmet, chef and owner stopped by our table and we chatted for a while and he introduced us to his co-owner Gul as well, such friendly people! Came for a weekday lunch for the first time, and the place was hopping! A small, cozy space, and you grab a table if you can, then order at the counter. The staff were super-helpful to our group of 3 to manage to put a couple of 2-spots together while we were in line for food. The menu was a little overwhelming, but I was looking for the Turkish specialties of the house. Decided on Turkish Lahmacun, Mangal Style (Thin wrap with ground beef & lamb with tomatoes, onions, peppers, and spices), lemon on the side to squeeze onto the lamb - fantastic! The side salad was hearty and tasty. We also got Turkish Borek (pastry layers filled with feta cheese and parsley), also delicious. The salad with prosciutto that our third party got was humongous! Staff was very friendly, even coming over to explain why they don't automatically put plastic silverware into the bag with the leftover salad . Can't wait to come back for more! read more

I am astonished as to how expensive this restaurant turned out. 1 Chicken Panini (smaller than Flour bakery in Boston and not as good) was $21. It came with a tiny salad on the plate with shredded carrot mostly and few pcs of chopped tomato etc. We ordered a Mozarella & Prosciutto salad which was roughly $24. The total with tip was $55ish. Unbelievable. No table service other than food that was brought to table. Took water glasses ourselves. Well...let's just say we have been back now several times. We met the owner (not sure of his name) and he was so nice-very appreciative of our business. The food is amazing. It's exquisitely presented and tastes heavenly. Their kebabs were awesome. (I wouldn't though recommend their salmon.) They make normally boring vegies very tasty. So you can feel good about yourself in regards to your having a well balanced meal. If you are hipster foodie this is the place for you. The owner will often check in on your table and ask you how your meal is going. It's a level of service that is hard to come by. It's extremely expensive. So you are going to pay through the nose and you need to bring your own booze. They have amazing deserts including a chocolate cake and a hazelnut cake that are possibly some of the best cakes I have ever tasted. Book well in advance, because it fills up very quickly. The only time of year when it's easier to get in is during the winter. The rest of the year it is mobbed. They are closed on Sundays and do take out for lunch only. One other thing: this is definitely mostly populated by middle aged and older people. It's not for the young crowd. But it would make an excellent place for a college graduation dinner. It's very warm as well. If you are 55+ and you want a welcoming ambiance that is going to feel cozy - this is the place for you. Just make sure you are affluent! And I agree that it's odd that this is hipsterish yet more for baby boomers. That's a bit of a contradiction. Hmmmm. read more

I stopped here for lunch with some coworkers. I found this place browsing Yelp wanting something different than traditional American. This place has a quaint small cafe feel to it. To order you walk up to the counter where there is a large chalk board of menu items. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich and my coworkers each ordered a chicken sandwich. The food was excellent! The owners and waiters were friendly and gracious - rightfully proud of their restaurant. Being Armenian I've eaten mid eastern food all my life, here and in beautiful Istanbul. This place deserves all the accolades it receives. The Turkish Lahmacn specialty was fantastic as was the Turkish coffee (& hot chocolate!). I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in anything they order. We were never rushed and were able to thoroughly enjoy a wonderful, leisurely lunch - our first but definitely not our last. What a wonderful little family owned Mediterranean restaurant this is. We started with the meze combination platter which had hummus, beets, havuc salad and had it with flat bread. Delicious. We brought our own bottles of wine which they corked graciously. I had the arugula and beet salad which was fresh and bursting with flavor.
