Quite a disappointing Valentine's Day dinner unfortunately. Not well organized or thought out. Food itself was pretty good but it was relatively chaotic and the staff looked like they needed help. Bar was extremely backed up and received my drink after both my appetizer and entree came out which took away from the enjoyable (and expensive) 3 course dinner. Drink should've at least been comped. A delightful brewery place, enjoyed a flight of samples which the waiter helped selected. The nachos was perfect for 4 people, I had the fish tacos which was just enough and flavorful. Beer is great and the beer options are many. As for the food... Disappointment in the food category. The salad wedge had warm tomatoes, the Mac n cheese was cold and bland, the apple sauce was delicious (except I prefer it cold, not warm) and the pulled pork was too over saturated with sauce and very fatty. I'm not sure why there were so many negative reviews of this place, this place is awesome! Sure the service is a little slow, but we didn't mind it since we weren't in a hurry and liked being left alone to enjoy the beer & company. My hubby and I came here on a Saturday night, the place is a bit hard to find because it's in The Factory Building's basement. We loved the decor and vibe of this place, very chilled and welcoming. There's a warm pellet stove fire by a couch/waiting area with board games for kids or adults which is a nice touch. The Restaurant was half filled and we were seated promptly. BEER: They had 12 beers on tap and we tried ALL of them between 3 flights (Yup, we love beer) and we were pretty impressed with most of them. I'm not an IPA fan, but their Mango Milkshake IPA (I know, it sounds totally weird & gross) was REALLY good. Just right amount of hop with a hint of mango flavor and a little creamy-ness. Not sweet. We also really liked the white stout, coffee porter, and the blond. Even They have a nice selection for every pallet. Oh and you can buy the beers to go in cans FOOD: We had the Bacon & Bourbon to start. It was a chunk of pork belly, coated with brown sugar, spice, and black pepper pan fried & drizzled with bourbon syrup. 6 pieces in an order. Each piece is not big (1 inch bite size piece), small portion, but perfect because it was rich & fatty. For main dish, we ordered the Tagliatelle - Sooo good, we LOVED this dish, everything taste so much better when you put a pouched egg on top. We also had the sausage & mushroom flatbread- portion is bigger than we expected, also very tasty. We liked that they use wild mushrooms in their dishes for more flavor. So far, this place is getting up to 5 Star status for me.... Unfortunately the dessert failed us, the homemade blackberry cheesecake was the reason for the reduced rating. Maybe they forgot to put sugar in the making, but the cheesecake had no sweetness... Mind you we don't like overly sweet desserts, this one had none. The only sweetness we got was from the crust and the blackberry syrup. It wasn't great, but it was good enough for us to we ate the whole thing. We just had so much high hope for it as our experience had been superb thus far. Anyway, this place is a solid 4-star place, we would come back again next time we are in the area. read more

So. Their beer is surprisingly delicious for two dudes who literally have no background in brewing. I feel like they did themselves a disservice labeling one of their few canned beers "Strawberry Milkshake IPA." I first saw it in a gourmet shop but logically would never spend $14 for a 4-pack without tasting it first. So here I am at the new house and... It's actually quite tasty! Re: food/service. I was starting to get pretty grouchy about how long a simple pretzel appetizer order was taking (45 minutes) until... A) I realized the gauntlet the bartender had to run to check on the food; and B) I finally got to taste the cheese sauce w/ local mustard. Literally WTF. Nevermind overcooked pretzels, you could dip cardboard or... the credit card receipt you *eventually* receive in this stuff and it would taste like gourmet fare, well worth the 45 minute wait. TLDR: good beer, good ingredients, great concept; execution could use a great deal of work. I can't help but feel that the owners, with hearts and minds in the exact right places, bit off more than they could chew (& successfully swallow). Service and kitchen execution need a lot of help but beer was tasty. I would buy their beer in a store but probably wouldn't come back to the establishment. read more

Come on down to Dalton and enjoy the fun atmosphere and great brews. Shire Breu-haus is a cool place that would be welcome in a trendy neighborhood. Built in the converted Crane Stationery Factory, the building has lots of exposed wood, beams, and large windows. The atmosphere is perfect for a fun evening. Lots of variety in beers -- although I wish they also had some ciders. I tried their apps with friends and we really enjoyed them. The tacos were overflowing with a little bit of heat, The flatbreads are wonderful as was the tiny "Reuben" type sandwiches. The sliders were tasty, but not extraordinary. Definitely a new fun place to go and worth the trip from Pittsfield. read more

Absolutely perfect! The folks who left negative reviews MUST be confused. The ambiance here was wonderful. The seating is spacious, and we never felt crowded. We could carry on a private conversation, without being overheard. The beer list was a bit confusing, as I prefer Whisky, so I tried the beer flight. 4 different beers, in 4 ounce glasses for $9. I eventually settled on the darkest offering, a "Whisky Mooi". I was impressed with all but the one called "Neil Diamond Can't Rap". It was a bit too sour for me. And the food..... My goodness! The chicken wings were PHENOMENAL! Very distinct, robust flavor, and cooked perfectly. My companion had the Lobster Risotto. Mind you, she's a bit of a seafood snob, yet she described this dish as "absolutely delicious". I opted for the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Another review states that it's "fatty and has too much sauce". Absolutely untrue!!! I've never had a more delectable offering of Pulled Pork! It was perfectly seasoned, and not fatty at all! I found it to be the bomb! I finished with the Tira Misu. I had ordered the Pumpkin Cheesecake, but was given the wrong dessert. A mistake that worked out quite well, as it was another wonderful dish! Overall, this place is sure to be our new favorite, and I will definitely be coming back, every week!!! Keep doing what you're doing. You've hit the 5 star formula, right on the head!! read more

So happy to see this kind of pub in Dalton of all places! Living in Cummington I can drive 30 minutes either way for good food/ambiance. I noticed the sign on the corner and my boyfriend and I decided to give brunch a try. Brunch has some fun drinks especially the Bloody Mary which was speared with treats. Breakfast sandwich, omelette and French toast rounded out a menu mostly suited for drinking at a later time (nuts, olives, salads, sliders). I got the crab cake with aioli and jam which was yummy but sadly barely warm. BF got the breakfast sammy which was better. Kitchen didn't have my mixed greens so they sent out a spinach salad which I declined. Deviled eggs and bacon were tasty if not a little salty but all got eaten! We will definitely come back for dinner some time - they may not have gotten the kinks out of the brunch service yet. The best thing about this place is the tone & ambiance inside. Renovation of the old factory is top notch. The menu is ambitious but well conceived. If they can get the kitchen to step up a bit this could be something really special! read more

Beer is great. Sour was yummy. Food is good. I ordered vegetarian tacos and was given meat tacos. Big mistake. Service is good, the bartenders are friendly. I came here on a packed night with people of all ages with a dj playing. The dj sucked. The music was terrible and dated. It felt like a middle school dance, from when I was actually in middle school (2007). At one point, the dj played the "I'm a barbie girl" song. I said you know what I'm getting out of here, this is ridiculous, and left. Seriously guys find a better dj, it's 2019. read more

There is much to like about the Shire. The building is beautiful. The beer is generally very good, though, IMO, heavy on IPAs. The food is very good. Love the wings and the cajun potato wedges. But I hate walking in and discovering it is an evening where they have a band. The bands set up in a corner facing the bar and blast their music so loud that conversation is impossible. Ordering food and drink becomes an exercise in lungs and frustration. Each time I have been at the Shire when a band is playing I witness parties of people poke their head in, take in 30 seconds of the deafening sound and walk out. It invariably drives me out within an hour. And if there is a band they shut down the TVs, so no sports. read more

Visiting Berkshires for the weekend, had a great night at Shire Breu-Hous. The atmosphere was awesome and so was everyone who worked there. If we were local this would definitely be a regular place for us. We'll just have to return. Between us we had cornmeal crusted fish, popcorn shrimp and arugula salad. All were awesome! We also had the peach crisp that was incredibly good. The selection for the flight was great. I had a great cocktail that was made with vodka from a distillery in the same building. We had the most amazing pot roast dinner packed to go from Shire Breu Hous this evening. The food came out exactly at the time arranged and was piping hot. They had come out first to make sure I was there, so I'm sure they dished it out after confirming I was there. Everything from the roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes to the beef itself was absolutely perfect - some of the most flavorful I have ever had. The person on the phone and the man who brought out my food were extremely pleasant. I love being able to support and enthusiastically recommend a small, local business during this Covid shutdown. We came in a Thursday night which was the night before their 1 year anniversary. They were out of all but three beers including the ones written on their beer board. They're response was "we had to hold out beers for tomorrow night." That wasn't helpful for our group of 7 "tonight." I ordered 22oz beers but only gave me 12oz beers but charged me for 22oz beer. Another person in my party ordered a hamburger and it came with cheese. They charged for the first refill on soda and the soda was flat. This review actually pains me to leave. I have dealt with these guys in the course of business and the owners and most of the staff I have come across seemed like great people. It always smelled good and had a nice atmosphere. I really wanted to like this place. On the upside, the food was average to above average. The beer was excellent. Service was pretty good, though I did get a little impatient with the speed(which wasn't terrible) due to the things I am about to mention, none of them her fault(and I left a good tip for good service). Was not aware they had bands but there was one. Not only was it a boring, cliche, classic rock cover band with an annoying vocalist, they oh so desperately need an audio engineer. Adding to the misery was unbalanced and unclean noise blasting across the bar with a nasty midrange distortion that makes conversation impossible. Also, it's a nice big space. How are you going to place all your patrons just feet away from that mess? Put them down the other end, spread it out. But that only cost them a star. Bigger problem is the cleanliness. Our paper plates shipped complete with fruit flies. We got attacked by them at our table and they ended up in my otherwise excellent drink, ruining it. Also, the steak did not taste like it came from a clean surface. Maybe that's why my "medium"(I actually prefer medium rare but ordered medium for the sake of my digestion on an active night) steak was overly well-done. Luckily, it still had flavor due to the seasonings used. So it wasn't awful, like many things cooked to hockey puck levels of doneness. Not following cooking preferences seems to be a huge problem for many places locally for burgers and steak, with a few notable exceptions. We had a wonderful experience with curb side pick up this evening. Ordering on the phone and pick up were easy and the food and brew were both spot on. Highly recommend both the nachos and the pot roast . The latter was a very generous portion with vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy, well priced and delicious. I was hoping this place had improved I haven't been there since the first few months in which they were open. At that time the experience was not great. Well, it hasn't improved all that much. I will say that the space is beautiful and the people are nice, but they need to really step up their game in terms of service. We went on the night they offered a taco special. We opted to order other food, but I guess only those ordering the taco special were allowed to eat because everyone around us who ordered the special was served quickly. A couple of us in my group of 4 ordered soup with a meal. You would think the soup would come out pretty quickly. WRONG. When we finally asked about it, only one soup was brought out and it was cold. Had to go back. Finally the other soup arrived COLD. A burger ordered medium was pretty raw looking and COLD. The chili appetizer came out after the meal. One meal was never delivered. I gave it 2 starts because when I finally got my soup returned hot, it was pretty tasty. I'm not a big fan of their beers, but the Pioneer Pale Ale was pretty good. We were offered some compensation in terms of gift cards, but frankly, I will not be back. (HINT: if you want good service, I'm told that you should sit at a table, not the bar.) read more

Solid on-premesis brewed beers in a tastefully renovated mill building. The staff was very personable (thanks Statia!) and the wings were possibly the best I have had (both the hot and the maple bourbon), moist, crispy, with a hint of smoke! Yes!! Don't you just love it when your first time visit to a restaurant turns out to be the best decision of your day?? Great food served in generous portions in a refurbished old mill, the renovation of which was clearly a labor of love for the owners. Shire is the kind of place where you instantly feel confident you're about to enjoy yourself. The menu is filled with favorites and some traditional pub foods yet is anything but traditional. The Shire burger is a perfect concoction of well seasoned beef, caramelized onions, mushrooms and bacon (I opted to forgo the triple cream Gouda cheese which I am certain would have made it even better). The hot wings, served with house made blue cheese, put to shame wings at other local places. The pork tacos with Cajun sour cream are an amazing twist on traditional tacos. Although it was a quite night, it's easy to imagine how fun and vibrant the place is when filled. With the gracious attentiveness of owner Nick Whalen, you are lulled into that comfort food zone you can't wait to return to. read more

After reading several recent reviews, I was hesitant about meeting my son for dinner there last evening. But since I had committed, we met for dinner and a beer. The place was lively for a Wednesday. Good vibes throughout. We sat at the bar and both bartenders were cordial and efficient. My beef brisket panini was excellent as was my son's bacon cheeseburger. We tried a total of four beers between us. We both agreed that the two ESBs were the best. I typically favor IPAs while he likes less hoppy lighter beers. Overall the beers were good, but not award-winning. We both will definitely be back. read more

This place makes some seriously good beer. The IPAs show great variety of flavor and style, and taste so fresh they might have been made that week. They have a rotating seasonal milkshake IPA (added lactose) that sounds weird but is awesome. The darker beers are also outstanding, especially the Imperial Milk Stout.
