Most recently, I came to their new location in Forest Glen to take one of their free weekly "Learn to Meditate" classes. The instructor told us a little about himself and his history with the museum. We then did some exercises that taught us some best practices on how to meditate. The instructor was extremely helpful, and being surrounded by other like-minded people made the experience that much more enjoyable. The meditation class is every Saturday from 11am-12pm. They also have classes on vegan/vegetarian cooking, soul/body awareness, self-confidence and self-respect, relaxation techniques, and much much more. The classes are free of charge, but they do take voluntary donations. This is a great place for people looking to tap into their spirituality. I look forward to attending more of their events in the future.

He has great versatility in his ability to understand the nuances of each type, how each type interacts with their core fixation and how each type might be mistaken for another. He taught each of the enneatypes with respect to the 3 foundations of mindfulness - body, heart and mind - and how each of those mindfulness practices could be a source of support for us as we learn to loosen up our attachment to the egoic aspects of our enneatype. His teaching style is relaxed and relational and he never seemed rushed with any of our questions or observations but rather would take the time to explore them. I recommend keeping an eye out for the next time he offers the course.

It is founded and led by highly trained and compassionate people who, in my experience, encourage an individualized approach and welcome honest feedback. One trainer I especially appreciate is Stan Eisenstein. I have taken a number of courses from him and for over 2 years have attended a daily weekday Telesangha that I find extremely helpful. The latest course with him and co-leader Ruth Zanoni, who was also excellent, was a 17 week course on living with chronic pain and chronic illness using a Western Buddhist psychology framework and an experiential methodology with easily accessible homework. It is so helpful that I encourage all who live with chronic pain and/or illness to consider the course "Inviting Chronic Pain and Illness to Tea". My perspective comes from a 40 year career as a licensed master-level clinical social worker in private practice who has worked psychodynamically in her own practice and her own personal psychotherapy.

It was the first time I had met a hypnotherapist, so I did not know what to expect. I told her about my ongoing struggles of my life and then she told me about the whole process of hypnotherapy. I told her that my main problems were anxiety and depression. So, she put me into a deep sleep to help me explore the roots of my problems. For the past year, I have been going to her and she helped me greatly. It is thanks to her that my mind and health has gotten much better than before. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs help. Jessica is very nice and she will always do her best to help you overcome obstacles.

From the moment we connected via email, I had a good feeling about her. She responded promptly, and she even communicated with me via text message, which I found very personable and accessible. Her office is easy to locate and is located on a serene property surrounded by trees and nature. I found it calming before I even walked inside. Inside is a beautifully decorated office space, I would call it quite simple and zen. She gave me a little tour on my first visit. One of the many things I enjoy about my sessions with Jessica is that she takes the time to ask me questions about how I have been doing over the last couple of weeks. She is a wonderful listener and is always concerned about how I am feeling and what is going on in my life. She always remembers what we spoke about and remembers my loved ones' names, which I find very thoughtful and nice. After we catch up on life, she asks me what my main concern(s) are currently. I tell her what they are and then she proceeds to guide me through a meditative hypnosis wherein we focus on the topic or person of my choice. From the first session, I felt a weight lifted off my chest. Three sessions after that, I feel more empowered, confident, and peaceful. Meditation is something I have been learning and practicing for a few years. At times during meditation, one can feel vulnerable and fearful. I feel protected and safe when Jessica guides me through a meditation/hypnosis, and that is extremely important for it to be effective. Hypnosis was something I have never done before, but always wanted to try. I have learned in my personal studies that much of our inner healing takes place when we are silent and still. I find that silence to be very healing - even though it's hard sometimes to be still and silent for longer than 5 minutes for someone as restless as me. She guides me through a meditation that I helped create (my happy place is a beautiful beach). She has also guided me through other various hypnotic states. I have learned how to better meditate and visualize whatever results I want. I have also learned how to focus more on gratitude and less on fear-based thought patterns and behaviors. It's hard to describe how helpful meditation and hypnosis are - but I believe they're the best kind of therapy that exist. Jessica is one of the most kind hearted and also professional people I have ever worked with. She has given me tools that I can take with me and use any time in my life. She has a VERY calming presence and voice, and she fluctuates her tone during the hypnosis, which I find to be very pleasant and relaxing. It's safe to say that I recommend Jessica Lin to anyone who is ready to heal whatever is preventing them from living the life of their dreams. Thank you Jessica.

(But also, support local businesses and try and buy classes too if you're able!) I took two classes this week - one with Kathy and one with Brenda. Both instructors were so welcoming and kind. Both classes were challenging (but accessible!). I enjoyed both classes a lot - Kathy's sculpt yoga class had me hobbling the next day, and Brenda's class had me challenging myself to try poses I hadn't before. She also had a message at the beginning and end of class about making sure to focus on you're "want to be" list (strong, brave, kind, loving, etc) versus your "to do" list. I love this. In both classes, it seems as though there's great community - a lot of the women seemed to know each other and were excited to take classes together. I hope that if I were in the area, I could be a part of this uplifting environment. The studio itself is clean, has great AC, and has lots of windows to look at trees while you're trying not to fall over in your own tree pose. They also have blocks, straps and I think some mats available. I look forward to coming here if I'm ever in the area again.

Cheers! DocMikeChiro Update: At Brenda's recommendation, I took today's morning yoga class with Dana. It was the most incredible & challenging, intermediate level yoga class I have ever taken. I asked if she had her class on video so that I can share it with my patients and friends who are yoga instructors. Brenda's Uplift Yoga studio is truly an excellent place to practice & improve strength, balance, & focus.

The random ten minute videos on YouTube were fantastic starters, but I realized that I wanted something more so I found Grace, a studio local to me. The first session was free, so it was a good way to get introduced to the place and the people there. So let's start there. I almost had enough time to say hello to the receptionist when she recognized that I was a new face, smiled, and introduced herself to me. She offered a tour to me, which was friendly, but I was surprised that another attendee offered to take me on a tour herself! It was clear to me then that the friendliness was contagious. I really appreciate that the equipment is available at no cost. Having the mats, the blocks, the bands, and even blankets there meant that I could participate at the same level that more experienced yogis could. This first session, I rolled out in the back as Jade started speaking. The whole experience was wonderful, but something she said stood out to me: when someone's phone rang and they apologized, Jade responded with a smile and said "Don't be sorry. This just means someone's thinking of you." And then I knew that the community was eager to share their wisdom and peace with others. On the community board (which highlights members, friends, and local services) I saw that the first month was available for a reduced price, and after such a wonderful first experience, I knew I was going to sign up. I'm almost done with this month and have practiced under different instructors but have found them all incredibly welcoming. I also appreciate the ability to participate from home, which I've done on several occasions, and an equal level of engagement from the instructor. I've had a really positive experience thus far and am excited for many more months of good yoga and community!

This was an all-level class and she offered us options to modify or intensify each move. Amy played a nice mix of songs from her phone during the class; however, the music kept being interrupted by notification dings, which was distracting. Overall, I found Grace Studio to be a decent place for a yoga workout. The studio is equipped with mats, weights, blocks, resistance bands, and bolsters. Instructors offer verbal assists rather than hands-on adjustments for yoga moves. Instructors are welcoming, the studio is bright and inviting, and classes are not crowded.
