In order to avoid the Valentine's Day nuts, my wife Peggy and I decided to stop in a day early. Peggy, being a devout follower of Pescetarianism, opted for fish tacos. The plate came with black beans, which she didn't eat, for obvious reasons. She said the tacos were delicious. She'd definitely have them again. I opted for the Boat Platter. It had 2 choices (much like you're faced with in life) of seafood with fries, and black beans. I chose the shrimp diablos and catfish. The catfish was delicious. The diablos (Spanish for devils) were heavenly. I know the bible says you shouldn't eat shell fish, but it also says you shouldn't have tattoos, and Peggy has a couple that only me and her maker can see...(if you get my drift). That's just a joke. What goes on in our house is private. I didn't partake in the beans, for reasons better left unsaid. Though it didn't matter. Those devilish diablos ripped my guts up like they were a losing lottery ticket. I didn't stick around to try and see what the facilities looked like here. It was much too packed. I got my check and ran faster than a cheerleader on a Friday night to Amico Nave, where I figured I had a good shot of scoring some privacy. Excellent place to dine! Will be back! read more

Go there to have a good time with your friends over a few drinks with decent seafood "snack". After all if you are looking for a "seafood restaurant", you will be disappointed in the BCS area. We like their shrimp, shrimp popper (can't figure out what's in the good sauce though), oysters. Again, not like what you can get on the coast, but we like it here. This is the second time my husband and I eat here i have to say it is a treat to get such fresh and delicious oysters. My husband ordered the blue cheese hamburger best ever. I just love going to shipwreck and am sad I never really went with friends in college. The environment is super fun and the food is tasty. We have been for crawfish season which was delicious and one of the few places to get crawfish in town. I've enjoyed the mahi mahi platter but our go to is the boil n pot but we get crab legs instead of the shrimp. Wow it's so delicious! It takes time to crack the legs but it's worth it. A very clued-in and savvy Houston couple moved to Bryan to rehabilitate the old Captain's Seafood, and have recreated a place with tons of buzz. Gleaming woodwork on the bar (think raw oysters) and floors, friend and efficient service, and an innovative menu make Shipwreck my new favorite place. In five visits, this restaurant always exceeds the mark. My observations: Food. The proprietary southwestern sauce on the fish tacos is spicy and flavorful enough to deserve special mention. The black beans are tasty and unique enough to catch the attention, rather than being just an afterthought accompaniment. The burgers, my dining companion verified, are wonderful: large burger grilled to perfection and served on toasted, sweet bread, similar to Hawaiian bread. Not the typical hamburger bun. My favorite, though, is the lake salad with shrimp. This is what I mean about innovative: feta cheese, dried cranberries, nuts, field greens. Get the serrano dressing. It's so refreshing to find a restaurant that is willing not to bland everything down to appeal to the common denominator. Service. Two of the waitstaff simultaneously open the front doors to welcome customers. Nice touch. On all occasions, the waitress was friendly and efficient. The owners always came to the table and seemed genuinely interested and genuinely friendly. Atmosphere The bar/oyster bar has a lively, neighborhood-hangout feel to it. I like that! Bryan seems to lack a place with the Cheers-type atmosphere. The dining area is casual enough for anyone to feel comfortable. I am looking forward to having dinner on the porch. Always go on Monday! Their 50 cent oyster deal is the best. It's always a hit or miss whether the oysters are big or small...this time they were a medium size. Two of my friends and I each got half a dozen to share. And then I got a cup of crawfish etoufee (which is my go to) and its pretty good for being outside of Louisiana. The cup is huge enough to be two meals so don't bother going with the bowl (unless you're starving). The fries combined with shipwreck sauce is also great. I would totally buy the sauce if it was ever bottled and sold in stores. There's indoor and covered patio seating - since it was a nice day we sat outside. Our waitress was nice but came by way too often. We came during lunch and it wasn't busy so she probably had nothing else to do but check up on our table. Personally I think it's rude to attempt to take away our plates when people are still eating...but I let it go. read more

Great place to grab a drink, watch a game, meet friends This is basically a neighborhood bar with a seafood theme. Let's be clear. This is not a fine dining destination. Yes, they have bar grub which is average/OK. I had the oyster poorboy which was pretty good. The fries unfortunately were cooked in the same oil they used to fry their seafood and so had a pretty nasty odor. The service is excellent and friendly. read more

The food: oysters-the absolute tiniest-they should be called oyster sliders gumbo-as bland and tasteless as a bowl of Campbell's chicken gumbo Tilapa-cooked any way bland-haven't they heard of sea bass or redfish shrimp-mealey-they should be boiled to order not a day ahead of time Crawfish-cooked any way étouffée or boiled-yuck bland Get the picture! The owners of this place should be ashamed. They are in it solely for the money. They don't waste money on things like spices or quality ingredients. For a seafood restaurant they don't have very many fish choices. Only one entre on the menu that wasn't chicken, shellfish or beef - "the chef's special" and it was Mahi Mahi, dried out, flavorless and bland. The service was really good, maybe because there were so few patrons. read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars because of two appetizers that I love...the Diablo bites (shrimp wrapped in jalapeno and bacon...mmmm!) and the boudin bites (balls...). I've had the crawfish etouffee...which is good...not the best I've ever had...but probably the best in College Station. The server was really nice and helpful as well. $2 fish tacos on Wednesdays. best causal dinning sea food in town. I like it because the food is kind of a mix of bar grub/ fried sea food/ Cajun food. Normally that means a heavy, greasy meal that weighs you down, but not true here. The friend shrimp are lite and flavor full, hush puppys slightly sweet with a little heat, and good etouffee for a place this deep in Texas. They have a hint of eclecticity with items like jicama in their island salad (try the blue cheese vinaigrette. The grilled Mahi Mahi is will worth ordering also. I decided to try the restaurant after hearing some good reviews about it. I'm also a huge fan of Cajun style food. This restaurant did not live up to the hype for me. The batter on the fried foods was under-seasoned. The French fries were okay but unsalted which is a big no-no in the fried food department. We also ordered hush puppies as an appetizer and they had an okay flavor but were undercooked. The house Sangria is also not something I'd recommend. It's flavorless and watery. If you want a place that serves cheap drinks and food this is the place, just don't in expecting not excellent Cajun style food. read more

This place has always had a great tacos, but now has yummy crawfish étouffée as well! While it is a tomato based étouffée and not quite like mama makes it, it is still very tasty, especially alongside the fried crawfish tails. Love the shipwreck sauce and it goes well on most everything on their menu. If needing a seafood fix in college station this is a great stop! And did I mention 50 cent oyster Mondays! read more

Walking in brought back some of the sensory culinary smells I used to inhale in several of the mom and pop seafood places in New Orleans. Nothing pretentious here, just good, albeit fried, seafood. The gumbo was thick, jambalaya stick with no hint of tomato paste or ketchup, so obviously someone knows a thing or two about putting together a roux. The ,50 cent oysters on a half shell were fresh and salty. I managed to get through two dozen before my entree arrived. I was a seafood platter and the crisp cornmeal batter was not too heavy. A nice Creole seasoning mixed in did not overpower the seafood. It was a great experience and the only thing missing was Dixie Beer or Abita Beer and the sounds of New Orleans Yat. read more

This place has a ship-like bar. The ambiance in here is a littlr bit gloomy and old. I ordered the oyster giembo for appetizer and diablo (shrimp wrapped with jalapeno and bacon) pho boy. The grilled oyster is really good. Smells so good and taste a little bit sweet n creamy. The pho boys is just so so. The first bite of the pho boy is good, buy after a few bites it taste bitter because of the jalapeno, with soggy tomatoes. It is not recommended. The service is okay but I think they need more people because the waiters are so busy that we have to wait to order and ask for things. Just as good were the drinks! $3 Titos drinks = bloody Mary in my case, and they were good! Bartenders were very friendly and food and drinks came surprisingly fast. Great quality of food. But the quantity is incredibly disappointing. My friend ordered a shrimp basket priced at $8.95 this included veggies and 5 pieces of shrimp. This was not enough food for her because she was hungry so she ordered 5 more additional pieces of shrimp. This was priced at $9. Altogether the additional shrimp cost more than the entire entree. We were told that shrimp is priced at $1.50 each. But $1.50 for 5 pieces of shrimp is $7.50. This doesn't add up and we were very disappointed. Not worth $20 read more

The live music and outdoor seating provided a great casual vibe to a family of five on a Saturday night so we decided to check it out. What I love about the place: 1. Boudin balls and scrumptious sauce - I can eat this all night while drinking beer 2. Apple,walnut , grilled shrimp salad with raspberry vinaigrette - inexpensive and delicious 3. Grilled chicken with provolone and vegetables - the rice was watery and bland but everything else was perfectly cooked (I would order this again!) 4. We sat with 3 teen-age kids in the bar area and were served super-quick on a busy night. 5. Very friendly staff What I didn't like so much: 1. it wasn't clear how we were supposed to get seated. Caught them on a super busy night (TAAF Games of Texas weekend) and had to flag someone for seats. 2. The menu wasn't formatted very well, so it was hard to find something quickly. We ended up getting a Chips and queso dip, an iced tea, and a water. We were charged $12 total. No refills needed or anything. The chips and queso was a medium Serving, and was mediocre. We ended up skipping eating here and went elsewhere.
