I can't believe that it has been almost 5 years since I posted a review of this place. Have you tried the boudin kolache? Oh, you need to try one of these. They have a classic, chicken and rice variety and a spicy pork boudin. Both are delicious. You know what I really like about this place? The staff are fantastic. Brandon and team are always on spot for the morning rush. They work well together, communicate constantly and work hard to get happy customers in and out the door as quickly as possible. We have been coming to this location for years. By far the best selection of donuts and kolaches in the area! The staff is always friendly, polite and quick. Huge thank you to Brandon and Bryan for a special custom order for our daughters 13th birthday. Brandon took my order and even came up with the idea. The donuts were fresh and ready to go when we got there. Thomas made sure we were happy with them before leaving. This was so much better than the regular cake or cupcakes we usually do. I'm giving them 5 stars because the owner was so nice about replacing my order that I placed it was 2 kolachies and 2 glazed donuts, in the same bag. So of course they melted the donuts..... Best donuts Evah! Nowhere else comes close. I have been stopping by here since they opened, as my waistline will allow. I am particularly fond of the chocolate twist and apple fritter varieties. The kolaches are acceptable, but nothing special. I have found the service to be impeccable and very kid friendly. My daughter was once given a behind the scenes tour of the donut assembly area. The place is generally clean and well run. On a final note, it is nice to see a small business staffed almost entirely by local teenagers... That does not happen nearly enough. read more

Came in this morning with my family, and this location is our first time ever trying Shipley Donuts and everyone in the staff group is very happy. And puts the happy mood in us for eating donuts this morning.. To top it off they have specials every morning on their kolaches which are really good and they have great choices on them, because I'm not a cheese fan so I was able to get just a sausage kolaches unlike other places. My boyfriend had gotten a large coke and they also offer free refills when you dine in. We will definitely be coming here more often!! Great experience on the first visit! read more

Yesterday morning at approx. 7:30am a woman who I can only assume was the manager of this store screamed & berated a much older gentleman who works there. She not only screamed & berated her employee in front of other staff members, but in front of customers, as well. This man was assisting a customer with an order due to the long line & wait times. He was having difficulty fulfilling her order, which was apparently his transgression & prompted the manager to demean him in front of the entire store. She actually screamed at him to "take a break," & then promptly began helping the woman he was attempting to assist. Moments later she began screaming at the same customer, "I don't know what you want me to do! He can't do his job & remember an order long enough to fulfill it! That is why he is sitting over there waiting for me! I am about to go over there and fire him!" I promptly left the store at that moment. If these are the types of people you employ, I certainly will NOT come back. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from any employee, let alone one with a position to manage others. I certainly hope the one fired was not the kind gentleman, but the vicious woman who lacks basic decency and clearly managerial skills. read more

I love Shipley's. Reading some of these reviews, it's just crazy how up in arms people get over some donuts. I particularly love the blueberry cake and strawberry sprinkle. Usually I go inside when I order here, so this review is purely for the drive through. Who ever the guy is that is taking orders at the drive through window, you need to lose the attitude man. I was there for only 2-3 minutes and could see the poisonous atmosphere around you. From a customer service perspective, if you are going to have that kind of an attitude, the damn order had better be right. Which it wasn't. We are ordering donuts, so 5 star restaurant service is not expected, but it doesn't need to put someone in a bad mood just going through the drive through. Had you not had a bad attitude I wouldn't have even cared about the few missing items from my order. Thank you to the very nice young lady that helped me inside after you told 2 other employees not to help me correct my order. I just wanted to update my review and add that in addition to awesome donuts, Shipley's has some great people working there! I ordered another large order for work and arrived to pay, on crutches. The guy who was working at the time told me to wait in my car and brought them out to me, made sure they were placed on my seat in a way that they wouldn't shift during my drive, and was SUPER friendly the whole time. As a treat we'll go to Shipley's on a Sunday morning for a fun breakfast. This morning my son made the drive. He was treated poorly by a man in a long sleeved "Columbia" brand shirt, not the normal employees Shipleys shirts. I can only assume this person is either part of ownership or managerial. We had a list of items we wanted. Mr Columbia was not pleased with the way my 17 yr old son ordered and kept talking over him. They were out of "Big Earl" kolaches so my son was having to improvise to make sure everyone got something so he changed some of the counts. This only further alienated Mr Columbia. Another customer, sensing the negative attitude coming from Mr Columbia asked about the Big Earls and was told they were all gone and in what can only be a "it's your own fault" comment. "It's not early you know" This was at 10:50 on a Sunday when they're open until 2:00PM. It was at that point my son and the other customer made eye contact and confirmed that this guy had no business working a counter. If I'd have been there we would have left. I don't believe in rewarding poorly run businesses with the gift of a sale. read more

This review is simply for the employee who was just rude. I called yesterday around 12:15- 12:30 pm. I wasn't sure if they were still open or not. So a guy answered and asked him if they were still open. He said no. I asked if the drive-thru was also closed, he said no. I answered "Oh ok thanks." then hung up. A few seconds later my phone went ringing and it was the guy from Shipley's. He said I hung up on him when he was gonna tell me which one were still open. I said sorry I was driving then he hung up on me. Wow! Just talk about being so immature. I could have been wrong by hanging up the phone right away but your action was just unprofessional. Whoever you are and I hope you are not the manger because that just uncalled for and rude. You call your customers on their personal phone just so you can retaliate and hung up on them. Horrible service. I arrived at 11am. I saw plenty of donuts over the shoulder of the young man that was assisting me. But was told they "hardly" had anything. Not a good way to start an interaction with a customer, negatively. I asked for 2 kolaches with cheese. He got those and put in a basket. I asked for a apple fritter. He got that for me in a seperate basket and turned to me and asked me where were the 2 kolaches. I said they were behind him in a basket in front of the apple fritters, right in front of him at the time. Same time this was going on i heard the manager working the window telling everyone he is running out and is about to close the window. Was pretty rude sounding. I then asked for a coffee and the young man tried to get it but the coffee was out. The manager loudly told him he was not going to make any more coffee as he was going to close down as they were out of everything. I asked if they normally closed at this hour and was told no that they got slammed and was running out of everything. Even though i could see at least a dozen donuts of almost every kind right in front of me. I have been told at many restaurants that they are out of coffee but let us brew you a fresh pot. - not here.... It seemed the manager was rushed to shut down for possibly other reasons as there was plenty to sell as i saw it with my own eyes. Since no coffee was offered, i told the young man i will go elsewhere to eat. Unfortunately this will be my last visit to this location as i do like Shipleys, but there are to many choses around this location to choose from. Too bad. read more

Dry cold donuts are not worth being treated like trash -- the customer service here ruined my morning today. The guy behind the counter was a jerk and talked to me like I was an idiot just because I didn't know that cinnamon rolls weren't considered a part of the donut section. The kolache was mediocre at best and that cinnamon roll that wasn't a part of the donuts section -- somehow both soggy and dried out at the same time, along with cloyingly sweet icing that tasted like it came from a can. Never coming back here. I'd rather drive a bit more to find a place that doesn't ruin my morning with their bad attitude. read more

The donuts cannot be matched when fresh. Once 10:30/11:00 hits then it's more in the Dunkin Donuts category. The taste always wins out though. The staff is great, fast and friendly. I'm NOT going to give 5 stars for one reason. On multiple occasions, I've seen the management openly correct employee(s) in a very aggressive manner. I understand there can be a lot of pressure but your employees are your foundation. If a teaching moment occurs then do it kindly or out of sight of the customers. It's not a constant issue but has really stood out in my mind. This will still be THE donut place in town and is the gold standard. read more

I grew up on Shipley's, living in the Houston area. Living in Austin has been troubling due to the lack of this wonderful do-nut shop. When we lived down south, one opened up about 20 minutes away, but then we moved to N. Austin and were again far, far from the nearest Shipley's. Now...there's a new one up here! HUZZAH! Just wanted to express our complete dissatisfaction with our visit to this location.. We entry in in a Sunday and they were packed and busy which is a good thing for business. The employee who took out order started off pleasant and helpful as we gave him out order then as we were ordering we thought there wouldn't be enough so we wanted to add more then his attitude went south and he seemed to be very unhappy.... And after we paid he made an announcement to the rest of the customers to confirm that they knew what they wanted... I did many know this was a business where we could add to our order.. My wife and I will never visit this location again. The sad part is that we really like the company. I am beginning to see the value of social media after all as an effective means of communication. Anyways, the rep was very polite and kind as before. He said it is store policy that he cannot refund my $4 without proof that I did not eat it. So this is same as before, he is a victim of his store policy. He also said that I should have known that Kolache's have meat in them. However, I have had Kolache's many time from many other stores. This is not true. Kolaches do not need ot have meat in them. Also, My response to this is that in the drive through there are no menus. how would I know? his response was that if it was my first time at Shipley's I should have come into the store to look att he menu. I do not buy this response. He could have said that yes, they needed a board for drive-thru. However, he did say that he never hung up on purpose and assumed our conversation was over. I agree that I could have mistaken his quick hang up as rudeness. To this end, since he called back, I do feel that they value customer service. However, the store policy did not help me very much. I noticed that the kolaches had meat in them. I am strict vegetarian that only eats eggs. I specifically asked for eggs only kolache and the drive through attendant shoudl have informed me that the Kolaches all carry meat in them. When I called a person who identified himself as ******* picked up and I requested for a refund. He asked me to bring the kolaches back as proof while I had paid through credit card which should have been proof enough. I told him I am headed to the airport from work and he asked me to store the kolaches in a fridge and bring it in after my vacation. I think this is an irresponsible way to respond to a customer and he refused to refund. When I said that this type of callous reply might impact customer experience, he said "have a nice day" and hung up. Note that although he was polite throughout, there did not seem to be any attitude to help me out either. It almost felt condescending. read more

I was raised in Houston eating wonderful Shipley donuts. I was thrilled when they opened 5 minutes from my home (although my waist does not agree). Love their donuts. The chocolate iced are delicious. If you have some left over, put in the fridge so the icing doesn't melt off, then reheat in the microwave for 10 seconds and it is out of this world! The cinnamon sugar are tasty too. My kids love going here for a special treat, and request the donut holes for their b-day parties at school. The service has always been very good. This place is so good! The customer service is superb and the eats are fantastic. Their kolaches are savory and the first thing you think about the morning after you had some.
