I came in here to see some of my cousin's fiancé's family in town as some came from Steelers Country and this was good enough to be their home for the night. It's not called Shiner's Saloon for nothing as there is so much Shiner to go around here, you'd think it's Spoetzel. They have the Cheer on draft still, it's kinda incredible. The space is a good vibe. There's tvs that were playing the Master's, a man and his guitar playing your standard bar covers, and obviously people. So this place is just off 6th so doesn't get the level of popularity as other spots. Its cool with a decent upstairs patio. Staff has been friendly. But the food ...wow. I popped in during SXSW for a quick Texas meal without the crowds and prices at some of the other options nearby. I got the brisket sandwich and upgraded the side to chill. Hearty, and savory. Shared with my friend and they were equally impressed. I came back the next day and got the Shiner Sheep Dog. So good. I will be back to try more on the menu. This is the first time I have been to a Steelers bar outside of Pittsburgh. Not really a big sports fan. Even in my travels abroad there are Steelers bars and I never go. Had a friend in town visiting and he is a big fan so we went during a Sunday game day. It was fun because I met a fellow Yinzer who lived a neighborhood over from me in Pittsburgh and now basically lives down the street from me in Central East. Good stuff. That's what was fun about this place, meeting real Yinzers as well as folks who love Pittsburgh and of course the Steelers. The bar has two entrances, one for the rooftop patio, and one for the street-level interior bar. Both were spacious and welcoming. Staff was a lot of fun. Great drink, beer, and food specials. Lots of screens for the viewing of "the football". Black and Gold for as far as the eye can see. A landscape of Steelers gear and Terrible Towels. The rooftop has picnic table sitting with umbrellas. There are also games like darts, cornhole, etc. All-in-all not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon. read more

Came to drink and watch a UT game. Not a lot of screens with seating. So we went to the patio upstairs. Similar situation, but we managed to grab 4 up at the bar. Standard bar food. Bit the Chicken Nachos were better than expected. Pizza was thin, but not crispy. However they do get a A for effort. Asked if we could do half pepperoni and half supreme. Since they weren't that busy they accommodated our request. Pepperoni's were good. But the supreme side's veggies were abundant (lots of onions) but undercooked. Don't know if any meat was supposed to come on the Supreme side. Ours did not so I would have called it a veggie pizza. read more

What a weird, wild time I had at Shiner's Saloon. The place was hard to find at first because it's hidden so well. The three story building has a path that leads up to a gorgeous outdoor area and the bar has a great selection. The beer is cheap. The vibe is casual. The people were amazing (literally Delaney, the bartender, was doing sudoku and eating chicken out of a shot cup) chatting it up with me and the few patrons. Go see Delaney! We were in town from Omaha visiting family and had a fun time watching the Husker game on their NU-themed rooftop bar! The Shiner Oktoberfest was yummy too. Downside was limited shelter from the rain so make sure you bring an umbrella if it's in the forecast. Also took wayyyy too long to get a simple order of chips and salsa despite not being too crowded. Overall recommended. read more

5/5 atmosphere and 3/5 food. Came for the Steelers game and the atmosphere was exciting and fun. The food however left much to be desired. The brisket nachos were one layer of basic tortilla chips with melted shredded cheese and super tiny pieces of brisket. This was super disappointing considering you barely could taste any brisket since the pieces were so small. I was expecting much more from a place in Texas. The pepperoni rolls had very minimal cheese and were mostly bread. They were dry and essentially inedible if it hadn't been for the ranch dressing that came with them. I would definitely return for the atmosphere and to drink, but I wouldn't eat here again. read more

My one star is for blackberry cider on draft since I can't put zero. The customer service is horrible. I asked if I could charge my phone after trying to use another outlet with my charger and it didn't work. Got verbally berated by the bartender Bacadi or Bacardi and accused of lying because it was just my charger not working, typing this on a fully charged phone thanks to said charger that does in fact work. Then when I walked away he called me a dumb bitch and when I confronted him about that he followed me out of the bar and onto the street verbally berating me and getting angrier and more threatening because I was dishing it right back to him. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Someone like that is not someone who should be in customer service, if he gets that triggered over a charger he shouldn't work anywhere that requires you to speak to customers. Horrible person and horrible service all around. Have the day you deserve Bacardi. read more

If you want to catch live music in Austin, this is one of your must-stop places. There is music on the rooftop and at the bar on the 2nd floor. Yes, there is an elevator but I have not noticed anyone use it. You don't have to be a fan of Shiner Bock, but there is a great variety on tap. We have ordered the nachos or the sliders to share for a light meal in between music performances. Both are worth trying, just as long as you order at the bar. Oh yeah - absolutely do not walk out without making sure you closed your tab (just like anywhere else). read more

We were actually looking for another restaurant in the neighborhood and gave up on finding it so stumbled into the Shiner Saloon with basic expectations of getting some OK bar food-- to our happy surprise it was exceptionally delicious. Not our first choice for rooftop bars, but it was the first place we started our last evening in Texas! The other place closed it's roof deck on Monday's. When in Texas first beer choice should be Shiner ... it's what you do. I love Shiner regardless of the obligation. We played a round of Connect Four. If you're a fan of Shiner beer (like me) you will love this place. Tons of Shiner varieties to choose from, including most that are not available in NY. The entire bar is outdoors but the bar area itself is relatively covered in case it begins to rain. It's also a rooftop setting which gives it an awesome ambiance and makes you want to stick around for a while. Our bartender (I believe his name was Brandon) was super nice and chatted with us. They have a giant Operation game that actually works, as well as giant Connect 4 and giant Jenga. A few TVs are behind the bar showing sports. They have an old cigarette machine once you reach the top of the stairs and I'm pretty sure it still works. The entrance is on the sketchy side especially when you're 4 females walking in around midnight on a Wednesday. The sign outside on ground level is tiny and only says Shiner. Inside the door is an ATM machine. Then it's a loft-style staircase all the way up to the roof/bar. Once you climb the stairs it's like Disney World. I definitely would have spent another evening here if we were in Austin longer. read more

Flew into Austin on a Wednesday and got a tip that there's a bar that does Whiskey Wednesdays... it turns out it was Shiner's Saloon! The good: a friendly enough bartender that served us $1 whiskey & soda's. I mean come on, that's a great deal. But I was left really disappointed with the brisket nachos. This is a BBQ town right, so where was the brisket? I could barely find it in my plate of chips and cheese. It was good enough for bar food, but I really expected better. Then again, they did have free live music. This place is smack dab inbetween a 3* and 4* review, but the subpar nachos sways me today to give them a 3*. read more

I've never written a negative review before as I typically find them to be petty. I this case it's well warranted. My bandmates and I played a SXSW show here on 3/16/19. When loading in, the entrance was unstaffed and we simply loaded our gear up the stairs. No problem. Loading out was entirely different. As I'm coming down the stairs, clearly loading out with gear in hand, I witness a door person yelling at my bandmate "Get the f*** out! Get the f*** out!" and aggressively walking towards him. His tirade did not end there. Keep in mind, it's obvious that we're loading out as we're leaving the establish with guitars, amps and various other gear. And we're doing so directly in front of the door person. He knows very well who we are. As I'm walking back in, the bar manager is coming down and I calmly tell him that the door person is being needlessly aggressive. Instead of attempting to de-escalate the situation, he begins arguing with us, claiming that we hadn't been ID'd. First, they weren't ID'ing at 4:30 when we arrived. Second, even if you believe him, there's no excuse to respond by yelling, screaming, cursing and intimidation. What he failed to realize is that under no circumstance is it necessary or appropriate to react in that way. Period. This place, at least on this occasion, is staffed and managed by people that can only be described as unprofessional and unhinged, and in absence of even the smallest amount of self discipline, potentially dangerous. There are better places to see shows. There are better places to get a drink. There are better humans at virtually any other establishment. Don't waste your money here. read more

When I first came here right after it opened, it was nothing but Shiner Beer. Everything Shiner made was poured for ya. Now, half the drafts are Shiner and the other half are local beers. I was really looking forward to having Shiner Black on tap but it wasn't offered.
