Shine Optique has consistently provided excellent service over the years. I first went to Shine before the pandemic, just for eye exams, and remember enjoying the experience. I have since moved across the country and recently moved back to NYC. In need of another eye exam, I returned unsure of what the experience might be like (because customer service in general has drastically declined). I called to double check they accepted my insurance and was able to make an appointment the next day. When I arrived, they promptly got me checked in. The doctor had great bedside manners and felt friendly, but moved things along. Because I didn't have many problems, I was able to get in and out in around 15 minutes, and the exam still felt thorough. They also checked the prescription on my (old old old) reading glasses and replaced the lenses in about two days. I got a text when they were ready for pickup. AND, they repaired my bent sunglasses and tightened the screws FOR FREE. All in all, this is exactly the type of ideal healthcare experience. So wonderful! I booked my appointment a day before, I was in and out in 20 minutes. The front desk associate was so helpful and attentive as was the optometrist. Do not buy at Shine Optique!!! I was promised a 30-day trial, but when the glasses didn't work, I was told almost everything I paid was non-refundable and offered only a minimal credit. It was clear from the start that I need both near and distance correction, yet I was pushed to buy glasses that weren't right for my vision. This felt misleading and unfair. I love this place. The staff is super friendly, and the doctor is like an eye wiz. I felt like he knew me in another life. Shine Optique charges $55 per 30 day supply for my contacts brand. When you order a 12 month supply the give you the 13th month free. LensCrafters charges a net $40 for the same product when you order a 12 month supply. read more

I've been meaning to write a review for this place for a while now... I stayed in New York with friends before our big Euro Trip and at the very last minute I find out that my eye insurance is expiring in just a few days and I have hundreds of dollars that I need to use up. I frantically placed an order to 1800Contacts to get some new contacts but my prescription expired a week before! I looked up a few different places, many of them were booked for the day but Luxeye was more than happy to book an appointment. I got there and was immediately greeted by two friendly people at the front desk who quickly took my measurements. Dr. Kenneth came out, greeted me with a smile and a handshake and took me in to check out my eyes. After a few tests, it turns out my prescription on my left eye was just a little different so he had to give me a few contacts to test out. This is the best, most exceptional part: The normal procedure is that he gives me about a week's worth of contacts to test out first before writing an official prescription. Given my situation (the expired prescription, the about to be expired insurance, and the 3 week Euro trip) he makes an exception to write me an official prescription since my numbers only changed very little so that I can place my order for an obscene amount of contacts, gives me 2.5 weeks worth of new contacts (he gave me all he had left) because of my trip since I wouldn't have access to new contacts until I got home, and tells me that if anything goes wrong to email him or call him to discuss. He took the time and sat with me to discuss all things eye-related. What was happening, why it was happening, etc. I never felt rushed for time or judged (my eyes are pretty bad). The entire time the experience was incredibly friendly and comfortable. My friend came in later to get his glasses adjusted and apparently the guy who helped him was 1. excited to do this for him for free and 2. apparently did it in a very fancy way because my friend was very impressed and wouldn't stop talking about how exact and perfect the guy was. Also, they gave us new lens wipes which were very very helpful for the trip :) I highly recommend this place! Exactly what you want from an optical shop! Things i love most about this place: -Super friendly, helpful staff who don't rush you. -No one ever tried to sell me anything else but the frame and lenses, unlike every other place i've been that's forced anti-glare, etc., on me. If you don't need it, these guys won't recommend it. -I had an issue after i wore my glasses for a while that no one could have foreseen. I waited a few weeks before going in but i was so glad i did because they fixed my problem immediately without any extra cost to me, which was HUGE. -your glasses will be ready in no time! Quickest turnaround of any place i've been. -optometrist is thorough and friendly. I also brought a friend in to get an exam and get lenses put into her old frame and since she lives a while away from the shop, they turned around her glasses in 45 minutes! Had a great experience here. Got a pair of prescription sunglasses and the staff was so helpful! My face is narrow and it can be hard to find frames that fit me in the styles I like. I have been searching for a pair of yellow tinted ray-bans for so long. They didn't have them in stock but they offered to make them for me and they waived the extra charge for making custom lenses. Absolutely awesome customer service experience and a great place to get glasses. I was visiting from Austria and I had some pain in my eye so I decided to stop in to Luxeye and see if they could help. Thankfully Dr. Ken Warburton was there and he was able to check out my eye, write me a prescription for some eye drops and offer me a coupon so that I didn't have to spend a fortune on the drops. It's an incredible and somewhat rare experience to call a doctor's office and hear a friendly voice. Tada, welcome to Luxeye. The front of house employees are great about helping you track down insurance discounts and scheduling last-minute appointments. (Plus, they're open relatively late.) I also stopped in with two pairs of Warby Parker glasses on a busy Sunday and they fit them for zero cost (and no eye rolling). I wouldn't take my corneas anywhere else. read more

Luxeye is a good optical/glasses shop in the williamsburg area. I've had my eye exam, as well as bought all my recent glasses at Luxeye. They've been helpful and really cool about making changes to customize the frames/lenses till I was satisfied with the look. It is on the pricey side but they have hip/stylish/quality frames and look for sales. I got mine at 20% off, as all the sunglasses in the store were on sale! read more

Wouldn't recommend coming here for an eye exam -- I had an appointment with Dr. Lam last year and it was less than stellar. I've had glasses/contacts most of my life and know what a detailed eye exam should be -- this was not it. The entire exam took about 7 mins (including the contact lens fitting), she said about 2 sentences to me, and I walked away wondering what she may have missed. read more
