I came in today to get my very expensive thin Balenciaga frames fixed. I was afraid after sitting on them that I'd lost them forever, long story short I was in and out in 5 minutes and it cost waay less than I thought it would. If I was able to leave zero stars, I absolutely would! The owner completely ruined my pair of CHANEL eyeglass frames (original retail value: $375). His repair techniques were elementary and he clearly was not a trained professional. He even stated: "I am not a luxury eyewear repair!" AFTER the fact! So what on Earth are you?! Aside from a caustic, sub par, ill trained professional who damages individuals high end items for a living!? My frames recently broke after many, many years of nurtured use. No one has frames for over 7 years without being careful, cognizant and responsible with their property. Sadly, I chose this establishment to mend the metal frame and was grossly disappointed in the outcome. Not only did he PAINT my beautiful frames with a cheap acrylic paint, he stripped the metal of its natural luster. The glasses weren't cleaned at all and there were remnants of paint on the logo accent piece. I have before and after photos-- so there is no reasoning that his work is shoddy and defunct. He told me to contact an attorney.... he had my glasses in his possession for 8 days and after one attempt to pick them up (of course, they were not ready), this is the end result. Vehemently disrespectful, unapologetic, half assed work at its finest. To knowingly damage a pair of high-end frames is beyond me. Simply say you can't repair them. Now I have to find someone to repair the mess he created. My frames aren't even fit to wear to work. I have already began a claim with the Better Business Bureau.... trust me. I had the pleasure of going to Optical Solutions yesterday. My daughter has a hard time keeping her glasses together and I was growing tired of replacing them. As a result she had three pairs of broken glasses, two in cases and one on her face. I had gone to a few eyeglass shops in Harlem, including the doctor where I purchased the glasses and no one "was able to repair them". I was told my only option was to "buy new ones", aka spend another $200-$300. Thus, I asked all mighty Google to show me the way to the great glasses repair wizard and I was guided to Maurice and Nadine, the owners of this fine mom-and-pop establishment just across the Brooklyn Bridge. We hopped on the 2 train to Nevins and I was greeted with good ole' southern hospitality and received Senor the cat's (pronounced with a Latin accent) seal of approval. I got my daughter's glasses fixed for much less than 20% of one pair of glasses with a quick turnaround. She is very happy. I am pleased with the work and encourage all to support them. I have been glasses-less for a while now. Ever since I fell asleep on top of my glasses, and then snapped them in half trying to bend them back into shape. This is after a night that involved passing out on the 4 train and waking up in the Bronx. A week night. I wasn't too pleased with myself that day. Redemption through Yelp. Following Jesse N.'s advice, I went to Optical Solutions. Dude fixed my frames for 25 bucks in about half an hour while I waited and we both laughed at the funniest episode of Friends I have ever seen. The one where Joey tries to learn French. Oh my God you guys. This place is unbelievable. A cozy, hole-in-the-wall eyeglasses store with a large variety of unique and vintage frames, many of which sell for UNDER 40$. INCLUDING LENSES. They made my glasses in under an hour. These guys could probably charge 3 times as much, but for some reason they don't. The best part is, the guy didn't try to sell me any ridiculous lense coatings or anti-reflective bullshit, which I hate. He just took my prescription and made me a sweet pair of glasses for 40 dollars. I will never buy glasses anywhere else ever again. The owner of this shop is a super kind, warm guy who is at once professional and sort of fatherly. Weird, right? No, but really. I went in there with a strict budget - $100 for glasses, including everything. He has frames that meet this criteria (that come in well below it, in fact!), but of course my bourgie ass fell in love with frames that would have put me $50 over my budget. I hemmed, I hawed, I sighed. I tried on all the frames that even remotely looked like they might fit. But none of them were as good as the pair I'd fallen in love with. So he gave them to me, everything included, for $100. What? Stop. He also fixed my old frames for CHEAP and they were busted up. A little store full of cheap 'vintage' gems? Uh, no, these aren't vintage, they're just dated dusty used glasses. Some styles go out of fashion for a reason. And the 80s/90s and early 00s aren't old enough to be vintage! As to cheap prices, most were $175 which is common for new glasses. If you don't particularly bad eyes there's no reason not to give them a go, but if you depend on your frames to be hardy and lenses exact, I wouldn't risk it. read more

When my Prada frames broke, so did my heart. I searched around the internet in vain for optical shops that were able to fix more than just a loose screw. Unable to find anything, I turned to my handy dandy note- Yelp! The gentleman that works there was very kind and explained that he would need to put in a new pin. Its kind of like the Beacons Closet of Eyeglasses, in that you can have FUN sifting through the choices, plus the bonus of having a kind of 'seamstress' right there who is very agreeable in making your purchase just the right fit!! Yes, cash only, but they also assure you that you can come back anytime with your receipt to fix things up if anything goes sour and you need to tweek those rims back into top shape. I was pretty glad I followed the reviews and went there. The star is mainly for the cat, Señor, who seems to be the most hospitable thing about this location. I called in advance to make sure they could provide one hour service and was told if they carry the prescription, my lenses could be done in an hour. I went in on my lunch break, didn't take long for the gentleman to read my rx on my current glasses, take my measurements and ensure I could pick up my frames with the new lenses by 5 pm. Everything down to the price seemed good. Initially I was told he had the lenses, but I received a call while I was on the train, minutes to 5 pm, telling me he didn't have the lenses. This wasn't a major issue, even though I asked him before paying my money, another day wouldn't have mattered. When I called him back because I missed the initial call, he snapped "yeah, I called you at least ten times!". I brushed it off and was told he would get the new lenses tomorrow, and I could pick them up around 12/1 pm. I called today minutes before my lunch at 12 to see if the glasses were ready, no answer. I called again after one, and again no answer. I waited and called back to see if maybe he wasn't near the phone; he picked up, said hello, and when I said hello, he hung up. I thought that he didn't hear me, so I called again. I gave him my name and told him I was checking on the status of my frames, he said, "Yeah, I know who you are, you're messing up my phone!". Confused, I said excuse me, and he repeated what he said and told me, "You don't give people a chance to call you back! Your glasses will be ready in 15 minutes, calm down and take it easy sweetheart!". I told him thank you and I will never do business with him again, and hung up. I saw a review that said he was rude, but one bad review out of many good ones steered me to checking out his location. Never again. read more

Unfortunately we live in a world today where a lot of ppl just want something for free. At the same time, times are hard, and the budget conscious try their best to afford the things which are a necessity while trying to save every penny. Without saying anything that may impact on this business in a negative way, I (who has never wrote a review but felt that out of justice for the kindness and exceptional service that I got, should).. would like to thank all the other ppl who have posted with great reviews about this business.. as it is what led me there in the first place, and also for ppl searching for a good optometrist... would like to direct you here. Stop searching and do yourself a favor and at the very least go check it out. I am pretty much blind w/o my glasses.. and if we are searching for an optical shop, its safe to assume that you are just as dependent?? However, glasses can be pretty expensive, so I had lasted with mine for at least 6 years w/o getting a new pair and knowing that my luck was going to run out one day and they would probably break. Well they did and all I was doing was cleaning the lenses and the frame snapped. I didn't panic bc I had one last pair of contact lenses left.. and so I made do with that for 2 days... As murphy's law would have it, ("whatever can go wrong, WILL go wrong..").. my contact tore too and I was once again blind. Now the night before the contact tore, I had gone into Optical solutions to see about getting my frame repaired.. welded or however it gets repaired! The guy said he would charge me $30. I was open to getting a new pair of frames bc I knew it was time and I needed a new pair. Those were just getting too old... but me and my boyfriend were in a rush and on a very steep budget so I just decided to get them repaired for the time being. I was going to pick them up in a day or so. On the way hm, I had barely left but for being in the subway tunnels riding the train hm, when I got out there was a voicemail from the store. The guy said my frames couldn't be repaired bc they were titanium and couldn't be welded. I was so very impressed with how quick he got back to me though. Very professional and accommodating and told me to come back at my convenience to pick up the frames. The next day after my contact tore my boyfriend was forced to lead his very blind girlfriend back down there to pick out a set of new frames that would fit my old lenses. Now I had instructed him thoroughly on the look I was after before I got there, and the guy at the store was so patient as we went through frame after frame after frame trying to get one we agreed on, me not being able to see too much how I looked. In the end, he was so helpful, he saw the types of frames we were looking at, and picked out for me a frame he thought I would like and in different colors and so my boyfriend and i were "arguing" (hehe) which one looked best or suited me, but ultimately, he narrowed it down for me (who has real difficulty making such decisions!) and he picked out the frame type that we settled on. I was SOOOOOOOOOO grateful and have I said I LOOOVE my frames??!!!! I have never in my whole life (had to wear glasses since I was 13..am now 32) , loved any of my frames as much as I love this pair and I never thought it would come from a small little shop like this one. On top of everything, he gave us a discount on top of the price he originally quoted and once again I was forever grateful as tight as we are with money at the moment!! Also, in my whole life of wearing glasses, I have never had an optician fit my glasses to the point where I was not having to fiddle with it and scrunch up my nose bc it wasn't sitting right on the bridge or straight or whatever. He took his time fitting it to my face ( I think it took about 4 tries), but when I walked out that store, I was good as gold. Like I had my frames for ages. If you are a very extravagant person who is looking for a red carpet place with the latest in designer frames, this may not be it for you.. but for all others who want practicality and a little bit of style as well as value for money, I highly recommend this place to you. this place is amazing! they have a huge selection of glasses though half of them, if not most, aren't really "vintage" as a fellow yelper pointed out. but they still do the job perfectly fine! the "vintage" frames that they do carry are amazing. you will find classic Cazals here, so if that's your style, then this store is for you! but thats not what surprised me the most about this place. i came in here to avoid paying the $150+ prescriptions you'd normally find in a Lens Crafters. i expected a price at around $100 tops coming into Optical Solutions. what i got was even better. for 60 bucks, you have yourself a brand new set of lens. i will gladly recommend this place to someone in need. not really though for a new set of frames, but for their overall prices on lens and repairs. you can't really find another optical store in NYC that even compares to the prices Optical Solution provides its costumers. not to mention the owner (i think he's the owner) is extremely helpful and super nice despite his intimidating physicality. in closing, for "vintage" frames, Fabulous Fanny is the place to go for everything else, there's Optical Solutions read more

The guy was super patient as I tried on at least 40 pairs of frames, and not like the "i'm being patient cuz I'm trying to get your sale" patient, but really didn't seem to mind at all. I bought two pairs for 90$, and when the prescription that I had brought in turned out to be wrong he changed the lenses for free. After all the positive reviews from fellow Yelpers, I decided to give this place a shot after sitting on my glasses and breaking one of the stems clean off at the hinge. Not only did they fix 'em up promptly, but also charged me less than originally quoted! On top of that, the guy adjusted the frames four times before letting me leave the store, to make sure they were juuuuust right.
