I am always a bit wary when I walk into a restaurant during prime dinner hours (7pm) and find the…read morerestaurant completely void of patrons. No matter though... My co-worker and I braved an evening walk through the dark streets of Jonestown, Scotland to find this specific restaurant for its highly touted curries. Seriously though... How could I pass up curry? So, I ordered the Madras Lamb Curry with a sweet raisin naan bread. You would think that being the only guests in the restaurant the food would arrive quickly. In fact, it was just the opposite. I suppose they had to go catch the lamb out back for our meal. Regardless, after about an hour of waiting and several glasses of India's finest Viper beer, the food finally arrived. The curry was supposedly on the spicier side, but seemed more on the mild side to me. Perhaps a 4 on the 1 - 10 scale, 10 being extremely spicy. The curry was in a thick tomato based paste with lamb chunks hidden within the gravy. It wasn't all that great to me. What saved the meal was the naan bread. I don't know what it is about warm fresh flat bread that makes everything taste better, but I certainly made quick work of the bread and had it devoured in minutes. The decor of the restaurant was a strange choice of pastel pink with a splash of Indian-like artifacts strewn randomly about the wall. Shimla house definitely would not be the best Indian restaurant I've ever dined at, but has certainly earned its place as the most peculiar Indian restaurant I had the pleasure of visiting.
