Chicken Tikka Masaladar with Peshwari Naan at India Quay
    Mark K.

I liked this Indian restaurant very much. I chose this place for my Friday night dinner because I am a big fan of Indian cuisine and because I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street. Also, when in Glasgow, in my way of thinking, there is no reason to eat any other style. The facade for this place is inviting, while the modern interior is impressive. It is decked out elegantly and appropriately dimly lit to create a lovely ambiance. The open floor plan with an unusual mezzanine provided a memorable atmosphere. The service was quite good. I was seated immediately upon walking in and my server attended to me right away. He provided very good service during my visit. The menu offered some favorites and some less known options as well. I decided to try the Chicken Tikka Masaladar. It was very good. It had the perfect level of spice for me. I had a salad to start and Peshwari Naan as an accompaniment. The food was all much to my liking. The prices were quite acceptable. The final cost for my meal was £23.20. I thought this was a reasonably good deal. In general, this is a very good restaurant. There are many choices for Indian fare in Glasgow. In spite of that, I think this place is worth a try amidst all of the possibilities.

We're visiting from Canada and were looking to enjoy a meal "at home" one evening. The India Quay was right next door so we ordered food to take away; butter chicken, naan, samosas, mushroom rice, battered mushrooms....All were fantastic. The flavours were distinct and rich and everything was so fresh. The service was friendly and they eagerly accommodated a food allergy. Although we didn't eat in the restaurant the atmosphere seemed comfortable yet elegant. It's fair to say that my family and I would unanimously highly recommend the India Quay.

Many people swear by Mother India and, don't get me wrong, I love Mother India, but to me India Quay has it all. It's in a great location, handy for Finnieston, the town centre and the SECC and the Hydro with a view of the Clyde Arc through its huge windows which let in tonnes of natural light. Its very spacious and comfortable and great for groups; I've never been turned away for a table. It's open from lunch time to late. The staff are friendly, chatty and attentive without ever being pushy. The food. My goodness the food. It goes beyond the standards that you expect to see everywhere and I am doing my best to work my way through the menu, although some dishes are too delicious to only order once, see especially the Lamb Desi and the Chicken Tikka Sarabi. They even offer take out deals (no delivery service as of yet but they're very speedy if you say you can collect).

I wasn't sure what to expect. I was simply looking for a place close to the Hydro, and this popped up. It's very contemporary. Built underneath apartments/offices with sweeping windows curving round the restaurant. We booked a table earlier that day and managed to get in no probable considering it was a Friday night, although it was quite busy when we arrived. Our dinky table wasn't quite big enough even though we were sharing a main meal, the waiter actually managed to knock the popadoms off the table (which they replaced). Their Mango Chutney is a must! Possibly the best I've ever had. Their Chicken Korma was...nice. Not the best, but still tasty. The Peshwari Naan was amazing, but could have been improved by not being so blackened on the bottom, it was kinda detrimental to the overall taste. Chutney, popadoms, two pilau rice, one chicken korma, two naan, 2 drinks. £30. It's very reasonable for it's location and quality. If I'm back in the area I'd definitely give this place another visit.

Located right by the Hydro complex it perhaps isn't the easiest restaurant to get to, especially when there is something on at the SECC or Hydro which inevitably there is now virtually every night. Infact the night we visited there was 2 things on so had to park quite a distance away and walk. The atmosphere in India Quay is quite odd, when we arrived it was heaving with people enjoying dinner before going on to their concert but it soon quietened down and felt pretty deserted by about 8pm. It wasn't unpleasant just a little different. The decor is modern and I think would really come into it's own during the day when you have a view of the clyde. The staff were friendly and fast to take our orders. If I had one small gripe it would be that I found it quite difficult to catch someone's eye to order additional drinks or get the bill. The menu at India Quay is packed with lots of tempting dishes but I couldn't look past the Chicken Poori to start which is one of my favourite starters in Indian restaurants. The starters were quick to arrive. My poori was a beautiful light pan-fried chapatti which was full of large chunks of chicken in a delicious sweet and sour patia style sauce. It was a lovely dish which I very much enjoyed and could've easily eaten twice over it was so good. For my main I decided to give the North Indian Kashmiri Chicken a try. This was described as A sweet dish for those with a delicate palate made with selected fresh fruits in a mango based sauce. When it arrived it smelt amazingly fruity. I didn't find the dish overly sweet, though if you don't like a sweet/savoury dish you may want to give this one a miss because it was definitely sweeter than your average curry dish. The sauce had the slightest hint of heat and was loaded with chicken and little fruit morsels. Although at first I wasn't sure what to make of the fruit in the end I decided that I really enjoyed the little zesty juicy pops that cut through the sauce. It was a surprisingly light dish which I would definitely order again. Never one to turn down a dessert I opted for the Trio of Chocolate, which was layers of white, milk and dark chocolate mousse served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Being honest I almost instantly wished I hadn't bother it was pretty meh! Not bad but not good either...It was edible but I left half of it. Which made MrG nearly fall off his perch because I just do not leave desserts, especially chocolate ones. But I found it pretty tasteless and uninterested. A small blip in what was otherwise a delicious meal. India Quay is a lovely modern indian restaurant which is serving up tasty delicious food at a reasonable price. I will definitely come back - as long as no one is playing at the Hydro :-p

I ordered a small ice cream desert, and since it was my hubby's bday, I secretly asked them to insert a candle :-)

It's clear that the focus of the restaurant is that it should still be a fun pub atmosphere that just happens to serve Indian food. So, looking in from the outside, you wouldn't know that it was an Indian restaurant. But when you walk in and smell it, you'll know. Portions were a little small so expect that you'd need to get a few things to get a full meal out of it. But they are appropriately priced for the portion size. They serve food here tapas-style and I believe you are still meant to share them so the idea is that you get a lot of dishes and eat as you drink copious amounts of beer. The one thing that made this place stand out was their service. It was amazing! During my meal, their card machines broke down and, as a result, I didn't have a way to pay for my food. The manager then comes up to me and says, "It's our fault. Don't worry about it." To be clear, this is only something I'd see in small-town America but never in a major city. So I was surprised that in Scotland's largest city, they were so trusting. (Really earning their reputation as the friendliest city in the UK). I was so touched that I promised I'd return to pay for my meal. I even kept my receipt so they'd know what to charge me. I came back the next morning, paid my bill, and, even though it's not required at all in the UK, I left a big tip as a thank you for trusting me and being so accommodating. When I come back to Glasgow, I will definitely come back.

Rather than the "cram as many in as you can" mantra of most Glaswegian Indian establishments, this place is vast but densely populated with tables. The result is probably the most traditional curry hall in the city, combined with contemporary and modern decor, particularly following a reason rennovation. Thankfully this is not simply an all style and no substance kind of place and as much care has been taken with the menu as with the aesthetics. While it's always a risk proclaiming a Glaswegian curry house the best in the city, Balbir's is without question in the upper tier along with the likes of Mother India's Cafe, Shish Mahal and Dhabba. The banquet, in which staff tailor make a meal for your party depending on your dietary requirements and taste preferences, has gained a reputation as being the choice of the city's true curry connoisseurs, with friendly, affable staff rarely getting it wrong with their recommendations. However what perhaps makes Balbir's stand out more than anything is the fact all dishes are cooked only with cholesterol-free rapeseed oil and minus artificial food colourings. The result is probably the healthiest tasting curry in the city and one which leaves you feeling guilty free the following morning. Well, relatively speaking.

As much as I love traditional style Indian food I'm also a sucker for British influenced Indian food. And yes sometimes you will catch me ordering a Korma however it will only be once in a blue moon. We had a table booked and on arrival we waited for what seemed like ages (I was hungry) before anyone even greeted us.. We were taken to our seat and ordered drinks. Using our favourite app we got a free glad of cava when we checked in. We decided to go with the banquet which was just what the chef would think we would like. Starters... Popadoms and a spice dip...very nice. Mini potato flatbread with chickpeas... Personally my favourite. Spicy salmon very well seasoned. Deep fried chills... Burnt the mouth right off me. Mains 2 chicken 2 lamb and 1 paneer. All very nice. The chicken ones where nice very similar to each other and quite creamy. If I didn't eat the deep fried chilli I would say that the chicken dishes were very mild. The lamb ones nice also but again very similar to each other. Paneer was tasty to. At this point I am completely stuffed no more food can go into my mouth. White flag!!! I opted for an espresso for finish! All in all a good meal. Very modern inside I'd have no problems going back.
