I had one of the best Raan (leg of lamb) at an indian restaurant. And guess what , I could not find it in the US, i had to go all the way to Glasgow, Scotland to experience it. I ordered Raan, butter chicken, mutter paneer, black daal(daal makhani), raddish parantha. Every dish was just amazing. The size of the bread is pretty big and the dishes are topped with fried okhra (ladyfinger as they call it here.) The service was top notch and the ambience was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant

Ambiance - 5/5 Staff - 5/5 very sweet and friendly. Butter chicken - Amazing! Super rich and flavorful. Flavored rice - full of flavor lol Naan is huge. Both regular and peshawari. However, beware that the peshawari naan is as sweet as any dessert. They suggested I eat it with the curry but that's just not possible. Limited dishes in the menu though.

Ok Mother India is absolutely 100% a must if you come to Glasgow. It is an Indian staple like no other. And it NEVER disappoints. The is truly 5 star Indian food. The onion chutney alone is 5 stars. The mixed pickle is the best I've had. We order so many things it would take to long to go thru it all. But you seriously can't go wrong here. Everything and I mean everything is extremely delicious!

Best Indian food I've ever had. No question. I'm from the subcontinent and know my food very well. The ambience is chic and the service was spectacular. The waiter made some suggestions and when we asked for what I would order to sample the best of this place, she suggested the "butter chicken". Boy was I glad she did. The butter chicken here is the best I've had. So good that I wanted to buy their cookbook and meet the chef (I did both). This is not the best Indian food in Glasgow but arguably some of the best Indian food in the UK. Don't miss this if you are in Scotland!

I came here after seeing this restaurant both in Lonely Planet and on the No Reservations episode in Scotland. The food is very good Indian food. I had the Papadom to start in addition to a masala chai, followed by the lamb mussalam and ladyfingers (=okra) with wholemeal & onion naan. The lamb was tender, but a little undersalted. Everything else was great. My friend ordered the Vegetable thali with black daal and sweet potato and chick peas. The meal was very filling - we probably could have split one dish instead of ordering two. We came in on a Wednesday night at 7pm without a reservation and were able to get a table right away, which is lucky since I heard this place is very popular. Overall, it is a good place to go if you are looking for good Indian food!

I'd heard that like London, Indian food is to Glasgow as Pizza is to my city (NYC) and Burritos are to LA and..... I'd also heard that this city is in fact even low key superior to London when it comes to curry and also that the beloved Anglo staple of Chicken Tikka Masala was in fact created in this town. While I can't vouch for the last two claims, I can attest that my meal here was definitive proof of the first one, and that this is an exceptional place to discover these wonderful local food-ways. I arrived in Glasgow, tired. jet lagged and hung over from my previous night out in Edinburgh but am quite happy I pushed myself to force a proper dinner out upon arrival, and it turned out to be by far the most delicious and delightful one of my entire trip. Although we arrived just prior to 10:30 closing time the sky was still bright outside in miraculous Glasgow June. We were lucky enough to be whisked right away to our table in the amazing second floor dining room. Dripping in gorgeous dark wood and filled incredible period details, not the least of which were the incredible vintage light figures. In the bathroom theres one of those old toilets with the pull lever string from above like in The Godfather. The room was packed when we put our last call orders in, reflecting a panorama of Glaswegians all seemingly in the best of and imbibing the best of sprits, merrily inducing in the aromatic grub while bantering in the thickest of accents, the only thing thicker being the unmistakably pungently delicious smell of curry. The food, unlike much of what passes back home for South Asian cuisine, which somehow manages to be both spicy and bland. This is bursting with flavor, and not just fiery heat, which it certainly had in droves but also a complex web of other flavors like coriander, dilll, and a myriad of fresh herbs and veggies from the fertile Scottish Countryside mixed with he spices from the Sub Continent that have been consistently imported into this city and addicting its inhabitants for centuries due to the logistical workings of the once mighty Navel based British Empire and the Port City of Glasgow's special role in its trade with the Indian colony. The most fiery dish proved to be the cities claimed dish of Tikka Masala, which was absent from the apparently fancier restaurant, as opposed to "Carry out" menu, but the waitress was more than happy to oblige and serve it to me. It was glorious in addition to punishingly spicy with just a touch of relief from a light underpinning of cream. Not quite as mouth burning but nonetheless with plenty of kick, but perhaps even more delicious was an even creamier chicken curry dish called Murgh Mussalum, which befitting this spud obsessed nation was stuffed with delightful saffron mashed potatoes. Those portions of poultry proved humongous, which were accompanied by uniformly delicious sides, including a delightful vegetable basmati rice studded with a gardens worth medley of super fresh tasting veggies including spinach pease carrots and zucchini. Many of those same veggies also appeared in the paneer we ordered which was not the spinach forward and thick concoction we were accustomed to back home, but rather a much lighter, tomato based dish with the namesake cheese applied much more lightly. And of course, we had to order some of the wonderfully light and fluffy whole wear roti bread, which hardened up nicely to provide solid structures for the base of our delectable sandwiches which sustained us on a trek into the Scottish Highlands the next day. Great Indian food leftovers, like some Italian food imo, sometimes actually manages to improve upon sitting and congealing somewhat, and these sandwiches deliciously proved my theory. Whether or not that was worth the smell is a matter of debate between my carmates and the rental car company.....

5 stars no doubt about it. All my English friends say this is the place to go when in Glasgow. They were absolutely right. Ambience is casual and dining is in basement feeling cozy with the brick walls and smell of kitchen nearby. Had the green chili fish pakora to start. Delightfully light batter with utmost in flavor profile. Side sauce was refreshing with hint of lemon and cream. Plenty of pieces to share for 2-3 people. Main entrees we tried were the classic butter chicken and mutter paneer with spinach. By far it's the best butter chicken sauce I've ever had. Thick and rich with just right amount of heat and multiple layers of flavor ending with the richness of butter. Not a drop of sauce left to go with the freshly made Nan which was light and the perfect carb to cheat with. 3 nice size pieces of chicken juicy and tender. The paneer was amazing. Peas, spinach and paneer with grilled tomatoes was mouthwatering. Again perfect level of heat and flavor. Didn't have room for dessert. Maybe next time as there will definitely be a next time Service top notch with friendly and prompt staff.

Now at last Saturday night and a table at Mother India restaurant. Had eaten in their Cafe last year (excellent) we were really looking forward to this And we were not disappointed. Great service, great meal..pakoras, chicken saag, a fantastic chilli chicken & garlic, aloo gobi, butter chicken, and a vegetable thali. Paratha and naan were good too. Add Kingfisher & Shiraz Everybody very happy with their meals. Good price at £107 for 4; very good value A must...but was it better than the cafe? - well you can at least book here - hmm a difficult question, which they also asked us! - can't say, both were very good and I'm not sure there's a major price difference... Perhaps a little more comfortable surroundings but that's not that important. One annoying thing is that if you are seated near the bar, there are all the food delivery companies coming in non-stop early on and boxes of food are being loaded from over the bar. There should be a better way Go to both and enjoy!

How? How have I not reviewed Mother India before now? I love Mother India. I've eaten there many times and I've never had a bad experience. Mother India is about as close to perfection as a restaurant can get. Most recently I visited quite late on a midweek evening. Nevertheless, the customer service was fantastic with the waiters assuring us that it didn't matter at all but apologising that they were out of one of the dishes on the menu. Not that it mattered because everything on the menu is delicious. We ordered the smoked lamb curry, the slow cooked chicken curry, rice and Peshwari naan. Since we'd arrived late we skipped starters but honestly, the portions were so generous that that was probably a blessing in disguise. Everything was fragrant and perfectly spiced. I don't think I've ever had chicken so tender. This is far from the first excellent experience I've had. Whether it's a large group outing or a quiet, intimate dinner, Mother India has never disappointed. I can also recommend the take away menu which is a little cheaper but just as perfect. Try the pakora, try the butter chicken, try everything, if you can.

It saddens me to down grade a restaurant that l have given a 5* previously. I enjoy coming here and the food is always good and the service not the best but passable. On my last visit l came with my partner, we enjoyed our meal even though l felt our table was being ignored and more attention was made to the next table that had four females on. When l went to pay for the meal by card the chap at the counter gave me back the card machine to add a bigger tip for service, even though l had already left a tip on the table. Absolutely arrogant of staff to expect a tip for bad service or to even have the brass neck to ask for more money when a good tip had already been left.

It's clear that the focus of the restaurant is that it should still be a fun pub atmosphere that just happens to serve Indian food. So, looking in from the outside, you wouldn't know that it was an Indian restaurant. But when you walk in and smell it, you'll know. Portions were a little small so expect that you'd need to get a few things to get a full meal out of it. But they are appropriately priced for the portion size. They serve food here tapas-style and I believe you are still meant to share them so the idea is that you get a lot of dishes and eat as you drink copious amounts of beer. The one thing that made this place stand out was their service. It was amazing! During my meal, their card machines broke down and, as a result, I didn't have a way to pay for my food. The manager then comes up to me and says, "It's our fault. Don't worry about it." To be clear, this is only something I'd see in small-town America but never in a major city. So I was surprised that in Scotland's largest city, they were so trusting. (Really earning their reputation as the friendliest city in the UK). I was so touched that I promised I'd return to pay for my meal. I even kept my receipt so they'd know what to charge me. I came back the next morning, paid my bill, and, even though it's not required at all in the UK, I left a big tip as a thank you for trusting me and being so accommodating. When I come back to Glasgow, I will definitely come back.

When we first arrived, we weren't sure if they were open for service since it was such an odd time. We were promptly greeted and seated. despite the fact it wasn't what you would call even an early dinner time nor a late lunch time the service was on. When we open the menu, we were amazed at the variety of Indian dishes. It took us a while to decide what to order, as there were so many appealing choices . The waiter saw that we were taking a while and asked if we had any questions, and if we would like any recommendations. We finally made our decision. We ordered a south Indian garlic, chili with chicken, chicken, korma, an order of garlic, naan the tray of three dips, and an order of papadom. Though the dips and papadom were a nice warm up, it was the manes that were the stars of the meal. Both entrées had wonderful layers of flavor, each of which complemented the other. The chicken in both entrées was juicy and tender, We had asked for both to be medium spiced, and they were prepared to perfection. We both agreed that it was the best Indian food we had ever had over the years . It appeared that it is a popular establishment as it filled up with customers during the course of our meal. Each table appeared to be getting the great service that we had.

If I didn't eat the deep fried chilli I would say that the chicken dishes were very mild. The lamb ones nice also but again very similar to each other. Paneer was tasty to.
