    Secret Pakora Club

Shhhh! 'Why all the shooshing' you ask? Well, it was a secret pakora masterclass in Mister Singh's India. That's right, this wee afternoon stemmed from the Yelp's Pakora Passport and because I attended some of the pakora night's out I made onto the special list for making my own pakora. Yay! The staff couldn't be lovelier, they were so attentive and wanted to make sure you had a nice time but not the 'in the face' way. The masterclass was all set out ready for us with all the ingredients and spices all laid out in order. We got various recipes to take away with us, all which our chef took us through. The chef mixed up the ingredients for us explaining what he doing. We then got to pop the pakora into a deep fat fryer. I think I would have like to have tried more of the mixing but maybe he wanted to make sure we got the best quality. After our class we got mega amounts of pakora at a table set aside for us. I couldn't believe how much we got. I felt stuffed like a wee chicken pakora. It was all very tasty and I would recommend getting your chops round some them delicious Indian treats. I really want to go back for a meal there as I believe the food will be good measuring up to how good the pakora was. This is will have to wait for another review as soon as I've got my bahookie back soon.

    Much pakora

On Sunday I made my way to the pakora master class at mister singhs. I was a bit unsure what to expect, but the first thing that struck me was the overwhelming friendliness of the staff to the customers. They really seemed to go out there way to welcome people and make sure they were getting looked after. The master class run by Barry was awesome and making the pakora ourselves was great. This was without doubt the highlight. Trying the pakora straight after it was cooked and without being reheated really showed what it should taste like. We got to take recipes away and I defo want to give them a try at home at some point. After the class we got to eat our way through the large platters on offer and the haggis, chicken and paneer were my favourites. This was also all finished off with a nice pint of kingfisher. Good yelp company, nice food and friendly staff made for a great night.

Given Fiona and I missed the Pakora session in February, was nice to finally make it here & with the lovely Briony & Graeme for dinner last Sunday evening. Having heard so much about this restaurant for years, I was quite looking forward to experiencing the main courses, as much as the infamous pakoras. Really great service and so attentive on entering. So far so good! We all opted to try the mixed platter. They gave a generous amount of haggis pakora, but it's one I just can't take sadly. Lovely starters, but I would feel individual portions might work out as a better deal. I decided to try their house signature dish of Lamb Ambala. A dish we were told, dates back to 1957 when their family were based in Aberdeen & couldn't get all the spices to recreate family recipes. The Ambala was born & carried through into the dishes to date. You absolutely must try this dish. A clear winner and something very unique to Mister Singhs. Such a delight to still be surprised by an Indian restaurant, by having something individual to themselves. Briony's tandoori chicken was very yummy, as was Fiona's chicken dopiaza. One let down... the tava made roti, was quite dry and crispy. A trait of it being reheated, that it goes that way. Apart from that, I wasn't disappointed in my first visit. Ladies - if you like your men servers to wear kilts, then you will enjoy more than the food too! You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

    Chicken bhuna & garlic nan

It's not often that l do take aways theses days, I was working late and chose here due to having not tried here before. I pre booked my order, a chicken bhuna & garlic nan bread ready to be picked up in the 10 minutes. I was met by one of the servers and told him my name, I paid straight away and soon after I was presented an order that did not look like mine. The mistake was soon fixed and I was given what l ordered, it was a shame that I was not refunded the difference that l over paid. The food was okay, a little bland for my taste. I don't think I would go back due to being over charged.

I came to Mr Singh's for a Pakora Masterclass and loved it. The head chef was very informative and talked our group through the entire pakora making process and letting us take part as well. After the class, we sat down to eat a selection of Pakora (Vegetable,Chicken, Paneer, Potato and Mushroom). I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Pakora except the Paneer as I'm not a huge cheese fan. I've never ate any curry at Mr Singh's but I really want to come back to taste what else they have on offer. The staff were very attentive even though they were busy. One thing I didn't like was table plans and the cold decor. I think the decor needs a little revamp, other than that... no complaints!

    Pakora masterclass: haggis pakora!

Tucked away in this hidden area of Charing Cross/Woodlands, Mister Singh's might be somewhere you miss when looking for a great Indian meal in Glasgow. But it's got a few lovely touches that make it really worth a visit. Firstly, I love that the staff wear kilts. It's done in a really nice way, it doesn't seem cheesy and they all look really slick. We visited for dinner and had a starter to share - the platter for four is £23 and has a mixed combination of chicken, vegetable, haggis and mushroom pakora, tandoori chicken chatt and chicken poori. I love the pakora here and it's some of the freshest and tastiest in Glasgow. I had the garlic & lime chicken tikka for main which was served with a separate sauce (perfect for managing how spicy you want your food). Sides of rice and naan were both lovely as well. The staff are so friendly here and make you feel really welcome and special. They really go the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable and have eaten enough food. While the decor could possibly use an update, that's not enough for me to deduct a staff from.

Mmmm.... if you're like me and you love a good Indian meal, then look no further than Mister Singh's India. It's a fantastic restaurant located about 5 mins walk from Kelvin Way, and 5 minutes from Charing Cross. Having been here for years and years and years, it's almost an insitution. All the food is excellent - having tried a fair number of their dishes, I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. The staff are fun and friendly - they're happy to help you decide what to munch as the menu is pretty huuuuuge. They also have several meal deals which are worth checking out, especially if you like variety. Just don't fill up on poppadoms and naan bread - the curries are amaaaaazing!

The Pakora Masterclass and who else to learn from than the masters themselves. I was very surprised at Mister Singhs I must say. The service has a real genuine touch to it! Nothing is a hassle to them!! So we got learn how to make pakora starting with haggis, chicken and veggie! We even got interactive which was an awesome touch!! After the class we got to sample all the types of pakora - made freshly for us!! This was an interesting night, Barry our chef/teacher/pakora master gave us great tips and tricks to the perfect pakora! Great company, great banter, great night!!

Chopped pieces of red chicken tikka were enveloped in a creamy tomato sauce and mixed with chopped peppers, creating a tantalizingly sweet, savory, tangy, spicy, milky curry. In addition to the famous CTM, I also tried the Palak Paneer, a flavorful but greasy pureed spinach curry with cubes of paneer; and the Shish Tandoori Mixed Platter, a sizzling iron plate of onions, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, lamb seekh kebab, and a prawn, each of which was marinated with yogurt and spices before being cooked in a tandoori oven. The entree came with sides of saffron rice, nan bread, a mild house curry sauce, and a salad of pickled red cabbage, red onions, cucumber, and tomato. Overall, the food here was tasty but definitely had an anglicized flavor profile. The service was friendly though a bit awkward, and the prices were expensive for the quality of food.

Why then, have I left it until now to visit The Wee Curry Shop? It's always been there. I like curry. What have I been doing? Clearly I am a bit of a fool. I can only comment on the food I got to take out, which I did because I was dining alone and because I needed to get back to the office. If that doesn't sound like a fun day it's because it wasn't one but this was definitely the highlight. I ordered spinach chicken and basmati rice. I waited in the lovely little restaurant while it was bring prepared. It's a really nice space, although I did feel a bit under-dressed to be there. I'd love to get dressed up and come back for a date night or something. At some point the restaurant manager realised the chef was cooking my chicken bone-in and came over to ask if that would be ok. He was very attentive - I assured him it would be fine. I'd noticed that this was a Mother India restaurant and well... that name is good enough that I'd trust their chefs with almost anything. The food was delicious. I had a huge hunk of perfectly tender chicken in a fragrant sauce packed with really fresh spinach. Is it weird that I was really enthusiastic about the rice? I normally don't care that much about rice - it's kind of just their to soak up the curry sauce - but this time it was amazing. There's a discount if you order food to take away so this was also surprisingly inexpensive. My partner is jealous that I went here without him so I think we'll be back soon. I definitely recommend it if you're in this part of the West End and in the mood for a curry.

There was a lot of food! When we turned up for our reservation, we were kindly shown to our seats quickly and our drinks orders were taken. While we waited for the food, we were given a wee taster of something made of potato I think, which was really nice. I just wish I could remember what it was called!
