Speedy service, outside seating, The previous restaurant was terrible. the new owners are doing it right. Poke bowl was delish.

As close to a genuine Japanese sushi restaurant as I've been in the N. Bay. Shige-san is a master and gracious host.

Great little place, get there early for lunch if you have a party over 4 as there is limited seating inside. In summer the outdoor seating is really nice when you're looking for some air out of the office. Super friendly staff, and good potions for price. My favorite is the Dragon Bowl for lunch. read more

I had the salmon creek roll and the salmon sashimi. It was fresh and delicious. I was very impressed!

Been here at least 5 times. Every time we had a wonderful meal. The fish is fresh. The entrees are good portions. The sushi rice is actual sushi rice!!!! Service is great! read more

Very good food and kind service. Best sushi I have ever had. Shige and Toki are extremely kind and generous. Food quality -- EXCELLENT! I religiously drive here from Petaluma once or even twice a week. read more

Best place for sushi in cotati or rohnert park by FAR! Shige roll is amazing but everything was great. Not to mention very reasonably priced. I will def be returning. read more

This place was amazing! They had great service and even better food. We sat at the sushi bar, he waitress and the chef were very talkative throughout the dinner. Explained everything, answered ever question we had and even just asked about how we were in general. Even prices weren't that bad, can't wait to go back!! read more

My roommates and I went out looking for good sushi, and definitely found it! Best sushi that I've had in a long time! I got the dragon roll and the red carpet roll and both were superb! read more

Good service. Loved the towels for cleaning hands at the start of the meal. The sashimi was the perfect temp. Well priced. Rolls were ok/good. Miso separated VERY quickly wasn't the best nor the worst I've ever had. Gyoza was fresh and cooked perfect! Wish it had a tiny bit more meat. Chicken was great. read more

This place is brilliant - cleeeeeean, casual and simple. The food is incredibly authentic, quality of fish is SFO grade, wine/beer/sake selection is fantastic and the menu is well thought out. The young Japanese lady (Shige's daughter? The one with the retainer...) was incredibly professional, welcoming and efficient - watch out Hana - this guy is on your tail. read more

The only problem I have ever had with this establishment is finding a place to sit. They do not have a lot of tables. They have very good (make that excellent) sushi. They are very popular. Make reservations or come early. It is well worth the trouble. read more

Love Shige. Always sit at the bar. Always get whatever fish Shige recommends. Beyond the sushi, Shige is the rare Japanese restaurant that offers a variety of delightful vegetables. From kinpira gobo to ohitashi to a nice spin on gomae (broccoli rabe instead of the typical spinach in a tasty black sesame sauce), these are truly Japanese. This is truly a neighborhood sushi restaurant. I wish it were in my neighborhood, but then again I would be broke.... read more

My friend and I have been eating at Shige. It's conveniently located. The sushi are fresh. My friend was used to the rolls and wanted to try and move on with the sashimi. She has no complaints and loved her first try. read more

Really nice, small and authentic Japanese restaurant. Hardworking and talented staff combined with a quality product produces a damned good experience. A tad on the pricier side, but that's the only drawback. read more

I would make this review only two stars if the sushi roll wasn't so good. There was an accumulation of many problems with my experience here. If only one or two of the problems had happened, then I wouldn't have cared at all. My major issue: We ordered our food--just two entrees--and waited. Another couple came in and sat to our right, and they ordered a while later. We kept waiting for our food for a while, and I saw a young couple walking up to the restaurant. This couple, who showed up a while after we'd ordered, ended up getting their food before we did. As did the other couple to our right. Some smaller issues: we were not acknowledged when we came in for a long time, the miso soup tasted store-bought, the sushi roll was a little too light (as in, there wasn't much of it), we'd wanted ramen but they said they were out and that "when we have it, we serve it," and the place seemed totally under-staffed. I assumed it wasn't the ONE waitress's fault, but they've got to fix this. read more

I lived in Japan for 15 years and this is the real deal. I'm a vegan now, but there's plenty for me to eat here too. Always great service and a warm atmosphere. If you really want to eat here, make a reservation. It's always packed. read more

We've been to several different sushi restaurants in the area and Shige is definitely the highest quality, freshest sushi we've experienced. The sashimi is amazing. The service is always excellent as well. This is now our go-to sushi restaurant for a special night out. read more

My husband and I couldn't be happier that Shige opened this restaurant! Shige Sushi definitely deserves a 5 star rating from us. We sat at the bar and had the best experience 2 nights ago. The service was awesome and the food was delicious. We're already talking about which night this week we're going back for dinner. We have a ton of sushi restaurants in Petaluma (where we live) and we'd rather take the longer drive and go to Shige's any day! read more

Shige is the BEST sushi in Cotati/rohnert park by far!! Their fish is fresh and delectable and their sauces are always on point. Be sure to sit in Terry's section and ask for the "Eric special" if you like crab and salmon with a side of sarcasm and personality. Shige is an amazing sushi chef and a really nice guy! A definite go to for great sushi any night of the week! read more

Sushi is great, fresh and mostly my favorite varieties. Still have not had the pork ramen but look forward to it.

Shige's is the best sushi restaurant in Sonoma! Everything I have had is delicious and fresh! I can't go into Shige's without ordering the Poke Salad, it's amazing. read more

Shige Sushi - Poke Salad - Sushi Bars Near Me - Cotati, California

Fantastic sushi - small place but social and intimate! Great sushi chef (the owner I believe) always on the mark, been going for many years yet to be disappointed - lunch specials are great value and the menu is well priced for the high quality ! A treat every time I eat here ! read more

Wonderful little place with great food and great service. Can be hard to get in, just because they are so popular. But worth the wait for sure. read more

This is a great sushi place. I had never been before and will definitely be coming back. I liked the outside patio which is where we sat. The miso soup was really good and I really liked the Cotai Roll. Prices were reasonable. read more

Tasty vittles! We had the gyoza, udon, and 2 other rolls and the Spicy tuna yum! Its very close quarters so i wouldnt recommend a romantic date or family dining. They made an exception for my children but it was kinda awkward. Good food though. Parking cab ve tricky but its worth the tasty rolls. I'll go back! read more

I'm being very generous with the three stars. The teriyaki chicken is just cooked chicken with a teri sauce over it. It should have been marinated. The Miso Soup is not authentic. It has more broth and not much miso. The tempura sauce was diluted as was the soy sauce. As is traditional, the owner did not greet us nor say a word to us. The server was the most pleasant of all and made the evening comfortable for us. None of us was crazy about the whole experience. read more

Best around, hands down. This is a must try for anyone who's never been here before. We drive out of our city which has five sushi restaurants because this place is soooo good. Keep up the great job guys!!! read more

Okay food but when they forgot my husband's roll that he ordered, he asked if it would be on the house and the waiter basically said no. Everyone else has eaten their food and he still is left hungry. Very disappointed at the service and will not be returning. The bull of it all, they made us pay full price for food that took almost an hour to receive. And he kept forgetting to refill our tea. I'm not a complainer but I'm also not one to let bad service be unknown. read more

This place is the most authentic tasting Japanese restaurant in Sonoma County. Everything about this place screams Japan. The wait for a table might be long, but well worth it. read more

Great food, great atmosphere, amazing service and super authentic feel. We made a late reservation but were made to feel welcome none the less. Food was delicious and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful with suggestions. Definitely try this place out! read more

We found this place as we were traveling around the Santa Rosa area. So glad we stopped and gave them a try. We had hamachi nigiri sushi, two different rolls, the mixed tempura and the house cold saki. It is a small place with limited seating - when it gets better known, you'll have to make reservations. Everything was fresh and delicious. We left feeling satisfied and very happy. Recommended it to friends. We will definitely be back when we're back in town. read more

Just had an amazing lunch here! Everyone is so friendly and the fish is fresh and delicious!!

I came here for a take-out, only had the unagi roll since I'm pregnant and could only have cooked sushi rolls; and husband had the curry katsu. I did not order their cheesecake at the time, but my sister who has been there raves about it. Finally tried it and it was supposed to be this really authentic Japanese cheesecake, fluffy, not too sweet and very light, unlike a regular cheesecake. I would definitely come back here and try other sushi rolls and sashimi once I am not pregnant :) read more

My husband and I are regulars here--I go here on average once a week. Every time I end up at a different sushi place in Sonoma County, I regret it. I like it better than Hana because the portions are better, the employees are more friendly and casual, and the prices are much more reasonable (Hana may have a wider menu variety, but I can't remember because I don't go there much anymore). It's very small so if you go at a prime time, be prepared to wait and I wouldn't come here with a large group. Been here probably 200 times over the last 2 years and the quality of the fish has been consistent every time. They don't cycle through chefs here, which is probably why it's so consistent. Never had a problem with service but again they do get busy sometimes. Interesting specials, like trout, which is very good and not common at sushi restaurants. Sashimi is always great. We're not into saucy sugary rolls so can't comment on those (I think there are one or 2 if that's your taste), but one of our favorite rolls is the Crazy Horse roll. They use the lighter type of tempura here, which I prefer. I highly recommend the Hamachi Kama, which is better here than some other places I've had it. Solid lunch specials. read more

Shige serves fresh fish every time we go. For one thing, they do something that is rare among sushi restaurants, they house cure their own Ikura (salmon roe), and it is the best Ikura around, easily rivaling Hana's house cured Ikura. Another test of a good sushi place is the quality of the sushi rice. Here the rice is just the right texture and slight sweetness. Poor quality sushi rice destroys whatever it accompanies, and it takes a master to get it right. We have found the service to always be excellent. Recently they had a waiting list, the owner's wife took our cell phone number, while we went across the street to another establishment and had a glass of wine while we waited. They phoned us when our table was ready and we ran back across the street and they were holding the table. That's cool. Our only complaint is that because the place is so small, and the wooden walls and ceilings have no tapestry, the acoustics are terrible. It gets really loud with a full house. They need to consult with an interior designer to find a way to dampen the sound. Other than that, this is a great little place, and the prices are far better than Hana or some other places that are not even as good. We tried some of their excellent sake's and got a full pour overflowing the glass in to the little wooden box. That's always nice. Definitely go there during a week night when it is not so crowded. read more

Seriously the best sushi around, if you haven't been you are missing out! The poke salad is my favorite but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. read more

Best sushi place in Sonoma County. All of the staff are very nice. I would recommend the Tempura plate.

We ordered the chirashi bowl, crazy horse roll and sonomono salad with octopus and all of it was delicious and well prepared. The yellowtail hamachi in the roll and chirashi was especially fresh and flavorful with a smooth creamy texture. The staff were very nice and efficient and we will definitely be back. read more

Early start glitches are past and we now have a very nice local sushi place. Quality and presentation on the sashimi plate were excellent. For a more comprehensive review I should try some other things, but I want to go right now and have the same again. read more
