It seems to be run by a husband-and-wife team, and the intimate setup gives it a clean, charming, and personal feel. They're also incredibly sweet. One thing to note: we stopped by on a Saturday night when they were supposed to be open, but they were closed--so it's probably a good idea to call ahead. Yesterday was my first time dining in at Kamura Sushi. I have done take out many times especially during the pandemic here and the food was always excellent. Dining in was a great experience because we get to eat it fresh after it was prepared. We were seated immediately when we arrived by the window. It took awhile for the server to come over to take our order because she was soo busy! You have to admire the way the husband and wife team works! The hubby is preparing sushi while the wife runs everything else. So be patient because you can see how hard they work! The menu is extensive with appetizers, lunch specials, dinner specials, tons of sushi both raw and cooked, udon, ramen, etc. It's got everything you can think of if you're craving Japanese food! We ordered the spicy miso ramen and the Chicken Teriyaki dinner (comes with side salad, rice, miso soup), Spider Rolls (to go), Avocado Cucumber Rolls (to go). The food is delicious! My hubby kept raving this is the BEST Chicken Teriyaki he has ever had. Compared to other places, there is no chicken skin here! This is good, thinly sliced chicken breast grilled to perfection drizzled in sauce! The restaurant is by no means fancy. It is set in a corner in the middle of a residential area. It's a no frills kind of place but you come here for the food! Restaurant is clean, bright, and service was great despite how busy they were for Friday night dinner service (tons of take outs, phone calls, etc). They even gave us lollipops with our check. This appears to be a husband and wife shop and probably could use one additional pair of hands. Husband was behind the sushi bar making the rolls and such while the wife takes orders, bus tables, answer phones and serve the food. Have some patience as they can get backed up when it gets busy. WEIRD vibes and in my opinion, rude and lazy 4 of us walked in and were told to choose any seating, which was easy because there was only one other table being used. The server came by and just smacked 2 menus on our table, didn't say hello, and walked away. Ok, weird. After 10 minutes, no one came by to offer us waters or greet us. We look around confused because they aren't busy at all. The other table was already done eating. We decided to leave and nothing was said even as we walked through the exit. Only one other table at a restaurant at prime dinner time on a Friday night should have been our first red flag. Won't be back there. read more

If you can overlook the drab atmosphere, Kamaru has really good food at possibly the lowest prices in Sonoma County. $14 Tuna Tataki was excellent; if this dish was $20 at a fancier restaurant you would be quite happy. Tempura was also excellent, batter wasn't too thick, perfectly crispy & generous for the size. Garlic Edamame was delicious, super well prepared. I came here thinking i had reservations at 8pm. They said they didnt seat anyome after 8pm. Instead of dismissing me they looked at incoming calls from the night before when i made the call. They proved that it wasnt them that i called and they did so gracefully and professionally. They made my vegetarian sushi quickly and sent me off with a smile and a very kind greeting; the woman came around the counter to hand me the food and the chef whom i suspect is the owner gave me a kind smile. After our local favorite sushi restaurant's food quality had gone downhill, my husband and I decided to try other sushi restaurants nearby. We're so glad to discover Kamura. Tonight, we ordered fried oysters and cucumber salad for appetizers, and Sebastopol, dragon, and spider rolls for our main course. The rolls were delicious and beautifully presented! We also liked the fried oysters and I enjoyed their cucumber salad. We'd the green tea mochis for dessert. They're light and tasty, an excellent shared dish to end our meal. Everything was great, the fish was fresh, and the nigiri was a generous cut. (I've been to places where the nigiri is a paper thin slice on a top of rice and not worth the money. This was not that.) This is a cozy little spot that offers the best sushi in Santa Rosa, hands down. The staff is very friendly and helped set up some tables outside on their patio for my coworkers and I since there wasn't enough space out there initially. The endless menu has a variety of specialty rolls and lunch sets. They have a scannable QR code at the table for the menu and take other precautions like wearing masks and gloves to stay safe. To be honest, I've never really been the biggest seafood person, but ended up ordering the California Roll and a specialty roll called Jumping Crab on Shrimp. They were both delicious and tasted fresh. The specialty roll had tempura shrimp that was crispy and topped with spicy crab. They were also great portions, but I would suggest ordering 2 rolls per person. Whenever I would normally go to a sushi restaurant, they would always have a roll that sounded good, but would have one thing on it I wouldn't want. That it not the case here! Since they have so many options, I found that there were several other rolls that I definitely would have enjoyed as well. Everyone else that I went with all enjoyed their food as well. It was my first time, but most of them are regulars so that speaks to the quality of food and consistency you will get at Kamura Sushi.
