Excellent service and food. We were there for lunch today when a large group showed up to dine. The restaurant prepared a massive selection of sushi for the group. All was beautifully crafted! Their lunch specials are delicious and reasonable too!

I love Umi Sushi in Windsor! The rolls were absolutely delicious. Our waiter was so attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. I have been feeling a bit sick so I got some miso soup as well. Definitely a spot I will be coming back to.

We had a party of 6 on Friday night with no reservation, and they were able to accommodate us. The atmosphere is nice, though the tables are really close together. The sushi was solid, and the staff was helpful and accommodating. We loved the veggie tempura; it was delicious. The 49er Roll and the Geisha Roll were both excellent. The menu is extensive, with lots of choices. We will be back.

Absolutely loved the sushi here. We tried the spicy tuna sliders for something new to try and it was delicious.

As a Chinese-American, I've eaten plenty of Asian dishes, from sushi to pho to stir-fry. I have to say, this visit to Ume on March 12, 2025, will be one I remember for a long time. I ordered the Tempura Udon and shared the Agedashi Tofu with my family. Each vegetable and shrimp were perfectly fried and crunchy, and the soy dashi broth was so comforting on the rainy night we visited. The way the tofu was prepared was unlike anything I had ever tasted. Delicious! The restaurant owner also took the time to visit our table to ask about our meal. We appreciated the personal touch! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

We haven't been back here in a few years. Not for any particular reason, we just sort of forgot about this restaurant. We finally went the other day, and it was so good. Our waiter, Eric, was very friendly and helped make good recommendations. We did a sake flight cause why not and the spicy tuna sliders. Everything was so good. We will definitely be back sooner rather than later this time around! :)

Lady-in-Red

This place has been my sushi sanctuary for years. I order the same roll (Lady in Red) 90% of the time because if it ain't broke, don't fix it--and once again, it did not disappoint. Always fresh, always delicious, and always worth it. Also, their Happy Hour (4:30-6:00) draws a crowd, and for good reason. Three big groups were already on it while I was there. If you haven't hit up Umé yet, treat yourself--it's worth the trip!

On the strength of all the positive Yelp reviews and the photos of good looking food Barbara S. and I finally made it here for a completely satisfying meal. Barbara ate a garden salad and a rainbow roll. She declared both to be top notch. The crispy fresh salad greens were dressed with a bright tasting dressing. The rainbow roll was a delight to see, made really well. I had the pork ramen soup. The pork bone broth was deeply rich. The noodles were toothsome, the slices of pork soft and delicious, the egg had that gooey yolk, the vegetables just barely cooked to retain their vibrancy. I asked for medium spicy broth, it was just that. The first sip was a chili shock but then settled into a mellow quiet warmth. Surprising alcohol list. Given the humble, not at all fancy dining rooms you wouldn't expect to see a $240 bottle of Kosta-Browne Pinot Noir on the menu, but there it is. I decided to drink a $7 bottle of Asahi beer. 3 servers helped us through the meal. All were kind, friendly, informative and efficient. We arrived on a Saturday 5:15pm. An hour later upon exiting the place was packed and there were at least 30 people waiting to be seated. So table reservations are highly recommended. Of the many, many Japanese restaurants in Sonoma County, this one for quality of food, the wonderful employees is in the upper echelon. The dining room is pretty basic and not pretty. If a $100,000 was spent to lavishly decorate the place, the owners could double the menu prices and still have a booming business.

The appetizers started the evening on uneven footing. The first course was acceptable, though the vegetables seemed tired, as though they had been pre-sliced the day before. The second appetizer -- boiled fatty eel with cabbage and carrots -- was bland and forgettable. In hindsight, I should have sent it back. The tempura was similarly underwhelming. It felt indistinguishable from what you might receive as part of a lunch special at an average neighborhood Japanese restaurant. At this level, I expect a lighter, more delicate batter with a crisp, almost ephemeral texture. The nigiri was good, though not exceptional. One puzzling choice was the use of chopped scallions on every piece. The piece topped with truffle-infused butter was theatrically seared tableside using an oversized torch that looked like it came from the plumbing aisle at Home Depot. The presentation felt unnecessarily aggressive and distracting; a smaller culinary torch would have been far more appropriate. That said, the ahi tuna itself was outstanding -- probably the best slice of ahi I have ever had, and easily the highlight of the meal. Dessert was another miss: an eggy bread course that tasted as though it had been prepared days earlier and stored under plastic wrap. Oddly, one of my biggest frustrations was the absence of iced tea. Virtually every Japanese restaurant serves iced tea, so its omission felt strangely out of touch. Service was efficient but impersonal. Courses arrived too quickly until I specifically requested more time between dishes. There was little warmth or engagement throughout the evening. I've had excellent meals at Asahi Sushi in the past, which made this experience even more disappointing. Unfortunately, this visit did not justify the price, and overall the meal fell far below expectations.

Making reservations was so easy and the woman I spoke with was very accommodating! When we arrived they sat us right away and were prompt on getting our drinks! Our server was hilarious and really on top of it. We ordered the little neck clams in butter and beer broth and wow they are incredible! We also got the little gem salad and the sourdough (this is a must) and we got the daily ceviche which was halibut with peppers. My partner got the hanger steak and it was cooked to perfection. She only gave up one bite to me but boy was it good! In the past we have also had the kale Caesar, the clam strips, yellow tail ceviche, and fresh oysters. I have not had a bite of food there that I did not enjoy. The place is shaped a little weird and some seats are more desirable than others. We love the booth (you pretty much have to make reservations to get one) but it is worth mentioning that we are both pretty average size people (maybe a bit more than average if I'm being honest) but anyone who is on the bigger side probably wouldn't fit in the booth. It's a really tight squeeze getting into them because they have these little wall things that come out a tad too far. It is great people watching from there though! They also have beautiful outdoor seating! Overall this is 5 stars for me. If you love seafood and good service you have to check this place out!

The wait was such that one member of the party got food 15 mins after anyone else. The food itself was quite flavorful and good. The octopus tacos were really top notch as were the other tacos we had. The other dishes were good but not as memorable. Perhaps if they fixed the service issues, this place would be great.

Huge portions with 9 pieces each which melt in your mouth. One star off as they use imitation crab. Large Sapporo for $7.95 must be the best deal in town (like 3 beer equivalent). They also have a wide assortment of sake which we didn't try. Last time I got the prawn and vegetable tempura for $17.95 and it was huge! Came with rice and dipping sauce. Yummy. Pure bliss. The roasted beets with walnuts and idazabal cheese were delicious and very generous, a reminder that one shouldn't go to a tapas restaurant alone! So take a friend or two and go.

The food though was disappointing. The most interesting item was the clams that came in a cava broth with garlic and parsley. They brought some toasted hearty bread to soak up the sauce. The baby kale salad was also nice with shaved fennel and manchego. The other three dishes were both off and a bit weird. The cauliflower came with bacon, which was good, and sweet dates; the dates were an odd addition and they stuck to your teeth. The calamari, was prepared well - it wasn't chewy - but it just had an off flavor, or at least one I haven't experienced before. Same too for the octopus. This was a much larger portion than typical - two tentacles, plus potatoes and olives. The octopus though was rather mealy. Small Spanish red wine list; only four. Tried two and neither were our favorites. The 1970s-80s classic rock soundtrack was an odd choice for background music.

Service? 5/5. We spent the entire time talking to the owner Sean as he cooked for us. Sean is truly made for hospitality... he's extremely warm/friendly and made us feel right at home. He even gave us two complimentary dishes -- the zhong dumplings & chicken congee set! SO generous. If we lived in the neighborhood, this would certainly be a regular spot for us. Food? 4/5. Love the menu, which is essentially a collection of some of my childhood favorites. The dishes are also all very homey, albeit a bit more fusion/creative than traditional. We had the below items: Hong Kong Claypot Rice du Jour (with chicken & lapcheong) - they nailed the crispy rice at the bottom!! While it wasn't the most fragrant claypot rice I've had (the lapcheong is store bought vs. home-cured, which makes a big difference), the savory/sweet sauce and the rice texture certainly hit the spot. Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice - I loved the ridiculously tender braised pork! The sauce was also very flavorful, although it was a bit sweeter than the typical lu rou fan in Taiwan. However, my husband absolutely loved this dish. Smashed Cucumbers - So refreshing and addicting. We couldn't stop eating one bite after another. It was a great appetizer and opened up our appetites. Zhong Dumplings - The sauce on these dumplings are indescribably delicious. Spicy, sweet, and oh-so-fragrant... we crushed every drop of it. Chicken Congee Set - This reminded me of my mom's congee! Loved that it's served with a side of rou sung (pork floss), zha cai (picked veggies), and fu ru (fermented bean curd)... just the way I like it!
