Super fresh and the local weekday deal is a steal. For $35 we got an appetizer, roll, and miso soup. All yummy! The restaurant is small with some bar seating and a few tables but super easy to make reservations the night before. Will come back on the weekend for their weekend specials and skewers.

You cannot beat the fresh seafood and ingredients here! Chef Nobu has some amazing knowledge and creations that will easily make this your favorite place for the most special and memorable outing. Four of us dined at the counter on a Sunday afternoon where we could watch Chef Nobu's masterpieces come to life. He has great skill in slicing, creating and plating. His specialty seafood actually come fresh from Japan! My friend and his partner know Chef Nobu well due to their frequent visits so there was very little communication about what we wanted since they are regulars. I was the only one in our group who doesn't eat raw fish so everything he created for me was cooked or seared nicely. Our beautiful chef's choice dishes started with four appetizers on a pretty plate for each of us. Mini chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) with tiny pieces of veggies inside, next to it was a shu mai, then a piece of chicken karage, and finally thick cucumber slices with prawn and a small dollop of flaky fish. Everything was superb. Next came four pieces of rolled sushi. We had watched him expertly (and quickly) slice up a cucumber shortly after we arrived and inside of our sushi was that cucumber. On top of each roll was lightly battered tempura fish. These were my favorite. It was a lovely combination of delicate fish and veggies. Our third dish was sliced beef with brussels sprouts flavored very nicely. Definitely a heavier dish than the other two and a different taste sensation. Fourth dish was a 5-piece sushi plate for each of my three friends. As far as I could tell, it looked like two types of tuna, Hamachi (white fish), salmon and scallop. Chef Nobu knows how to make nigiri perfectly with small sushi rice under each generous slice of fish. He made me a 2-piece seared nigiri plate with Hokkaido scallop and salmon. It was delightful. The whole experience was such fun and intriguing. I loved being surprised by the dishes Chef Nobu served us. It was an intimate and entertaining meal especially to have shared this experience with good friends. Thank you Chef Nobu and staff. Interior is super clean and decorated warmly and tastefully. The server was attentive and very polite. She brought us all green tea and removed our dishes promptly. Parking is always a challenge near the plaza but if you don't mind walking, you will eventually find a spot. The restaurant is located conveniently across the street from the town square.

Why did I wait so long to go back to Asahi?! Fresh fish! Beautiful presentation! Delicious everything! Warm service! A friend and I recently visited on a Sunday for lunch and it was surprisingly quiet inside. What did we order? To start: -Agedashi - Deep Fried Tofu & Eggplant with Konbu Dashi Broth. Top with Green Onion & Arare Cracker. *the tofu is light and delicate sitting in a delicious broth (that I wanted to drink but didn't). Highly recommend this! Then 3 Signature Rolls: -Tiger Roll Inside: Fried Shrimp, Cucumber Top: Unagi, Shrimp, Avocado, Teriyaki Sauce, Sriracha Aioli, Garlic Mayo & Tobiko -Crazy Ninja Roll Inside: Cucumber, Shiso & Spicy Tuna Top: Hamachi, Sriracha, Sriracha Aioli, Green Onion -Sonoma Inside: Tempura Asparagus, Zuccini, Carrot Top: Tempura Onion, Micro Green, Tomato, Teriyaki, Tempura Flakes, Aonori Powder We loved all 3 rolls. Almost didn't try the Sonoma Roll, but so glad we did. It was so visually appealing and so delicious. We'll definitely get this again. We also split a half bottle of local sauvignon blanc. What a perfect afternoon! Now I want to do this every Sunday Funday! Note per their website: "We Are Serving Two Concepts: - Sunday to Wednesday - Casual Dining: Izakaya Tapas & Sushi Rolls - Thursday, Friday, Saturday - Little Luxury Dining: Omakase, Japan Fish Sushi, Izakaya Tapas, Sushi Rolls"

The fish here is absolutely amazing! So fresh, the waygu was phenomenal, the scorpion, scallop roll, trout etc etc, made to perfection all aroundz also love that they have Hartford family wines on the menu, perfect pairing to compliment the night!!

    Rainbow Roll

Sushi rolls were fluffy and delicious. However, they were served without pickled ginger which was provided to our table per our request at an extra charge and some attitude! The portion of the seaweed salad was much smaller than many other Japanese restaurants considering its $8 price. The restaurant was cozy and cute in downtown with Street Parking within a couple blocks. The service on the other hand was bad as our waitress was not only unfriendly but somewhat rude. Definitely can make some improvements there...

Came in for lunch on a Thursday with a group of 2 at around 1pm and were seated immediately. The place wasn't too crowded, there were 1-2 other groups there so it was nice and peaceful. Organice Brussel Sprouts - Standard, deliciously seasoned Clam Miso Soup - Delicious! You get the whole clam shell and all in your soup. White Wine Flight - This flight came with a sauv blanc, chardonnay, and riesling. Great pairing for fish! Sashimi Appetizer 10pc - Super fresh! Great to share between 2, you get 5 varieties and 2 slices each. Surf n Turf roll - You really get to taste the wagyu flavor in each bite. No need to dip in anything, the flavors work great together as is. Godzilla roll - Delicious and light, goes great alongside the wine and heavier Surf n Turf roll. I'm partial to tuna so this was my favorite. I enjoyed the soft shell crab shavings on top. Food: came quickly, delicious, fresh, fulfills expectations Service: courteous, prompt, received 1 standard check-in Ambiance: quiet, peaceful Parking: downtown parking in various lots and street parking, should be easy to find

Last night my fiancé and I went on a date to Asahi Sushi and left so happy! We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching Chef Nobu in his element. He carefully selected each type of fish and expertly crafted each piece for us. Many of the delectable fish were fresh from Japan! The sakes I tried were smooth and complimented the sushi very well. The glasses each one was served in added to the experience. The matcha tiramisu was light and a perfect way to end our meal. The food, service, and vibe of the restaurant were all extraordinary. What a treat! Thank you

$17 bucks for this?!?! And I don't even have big hands. What a ripoff.

We recently relocated to Sonoma county (The Sea Ranch) from Silicon Valley (Menlo Park) and have had some nice meals along the coast since we moved here FT (Harbor House, Ledford House etc) but this little spot is a real gem. Friends recommended it so we had a double date night and filled the table with all sorts of goodies. Great evening and food. Highly recommended. Small, simply situated on a very quiet street in Point Arena. A few doors down from a decent locally sourced weed shop (also worth a visit BTW), and a local fish monger (Point Arena is a commercial fishing port) and solid local bakery (Pelican), this excellent restaurant serves up a variety of rotating locally sourced small plates and yakatori style grilled meats and veggies as well as some raw fish and stews as well. Highlights were the sashimi, the fish roe on rice, the grilled pork belly, the grilled cabbage salad, the tempura shrooms and the fried chicken oysters as well as the grilled chicken thighs. All excellent. They have a nice selection of saki's as well (we had 2 small bottles to share $20/each) and to close the meal we had the Matcha ice cream with passion fruit ! All in for 4 people including tax and tip $250...which in today's world seemed very fair to me. Great meal and great vibe overall. Chef/owners apparently have strong training and work experience in Japanese settings and fine dining restaurants- which may explain why this place does very simple things so well... Make a reservation on the weekends otherwise you'll miss out or end up eating at the bar. There are certainly worse things to do than that...however, trust me. Visit here and thank me later. Fried, grilled, steamed, raw... not a single miss. We were staying just up the block on a short getaway, and this ended up being one of the most memorable parts of the trip. At one point we were talking about Rintaro in SF, and the chef overheard us--she mentioned he knew the folks there and spoke highly of them. Honestly, after eating here, I think Gama is better, and at a much friendlier price point. Warm atmosphere, great food, and a chef who clearly cares about what they're doing. This place is a win all around.

It is very true that it is difficult to get in this spot during peak hours. A waitlist will have you on point, but you will still have to wait a little bit to get in. Trust me - it's all worth it. The team of hosts and wait staff treats you kindly, even though there's the "stress" of a wait. Once seated in the dimly lit space, everything happens more quickly. Your order is taken and it's not long before you get some plates coming your way. The food. Amazing. Simply delicious. Well thought out, fresh and well presented. I had the black sesame asparagus - the sauce so incredible. Then the sake sashimi was melt in your mouth quality. And a couple well equipped rolls satisfied every desire. Wine by the glass on the list, besides beers and sake. A must-go sushi place for the Bay Area. Along with Sake 107 in Petaluma, Kirala in Berkeley and Ebisu in SF -- this is a place you need to visit.

First, the takeout menu is a shadow of its former self. It's so simple that deciding what to order is a challenge, but not in a good way. The restaurant was mostly empty except for throngs of people at the bar. Also, lines were waiting for pickup orders. I wanted a bottle of sake. Had I known how long outer wait would be and the price for the sake, I would have walked to the liquor store in Fairfax and back. Finally, 39 minutes later our order was ready. We didn't get chop sticks, but the food was there. The sushi was okay, the sashimi was fine but not special. The rice, which I had raved about before, was not around. We got plain rice that I could have made at home. I get that every place has an off day, but this was extremely expensive and frustrating for us. Judging by the frantic rush of servers and disgruntled customers, no one was enjoying the experience.

This place says they won't let you in even 45 minutes before closing time which is outrageous. 9 PM closing for them means they are locking the door and going home at 9 PM. I managed to squeak by and they let me in at 8:15. They acted like they were doing me a special favor. But what sucks is feeling the pressure that they want to go home and that you caused them to stay. Everybody's scurrying around cleaning up because they want to get out of there. As soon as I sat down, I realized I shouldn't have stayed. I'm a regular customer, but I have to say that the food was just average this time. I would avoid the potstickers altogether. They are expensive, very tiny, and were charred with something black. I almost sent them back. Anyway, I hurried through my dinner, which was over $60 anyway, which I find to be pretty expensive for what I got. If you want to close at 8:15, just change your sign! For the amount of money it cost to eat here I don't feel like you should be hurried and get that feeling your presence is ruining someone's Saturday night.

I always had a fantastic experience there, with fresh fish, delicious rolls, fantastic personable, family - feeling service. When they opened the Sonoma restaurant, I had moved out of town into Petaluma. The Cotati restaurant is still there and thriving, but the Sonoma location offers a little more room to go along with the same delicious food and service. On this particular day, we ordered miso soup, tempura vegetables, three kinds of nigiri -- salmon, albacore and hamachi, and two rolls: Cotati Roll which featured shrimp, crab meat, spicy tuna and then also a spider roll, which is softshell crab based. The food arrived quickly and was extremely fresh and delicious. I would say the fish is 8.5/10 -- it wasn't perfect for me like Sake 107 in Petaluma, but it was quite excellent still. Presentation was perfect, there was a nice amount of wasabi and ginger present. The tempura vegetables were done just right. Delicious, not deeply heavily fried, but still crispy and yummy. There is wine, beer and sake by the glass or bottle. I had a glass of rosé, which was lovely and dry, appropriate for this food. The restaurant dining area is inviting, clean, well decorated - - see the photos. You feel welcome. I wasn't a fan of the music that was playing if I'm being honest, so a note to the management - rap music doesn't really suit the dining experience. But I was generally able to overlook that and it didn't take away from my five star rating. The bill was more than fair for all the food that we had. It's not the least expensive sushi I've ever had, but for the quality it is definitely a good value. If you are craving sushi in Cotati or Sonoma, give Shige a shot. You won't be disappointed.

The restaurant was packed and seating is pretty limited, so I'd highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The atmosphere is lively and energetic with casual Japanese eatery vibes, and service was friendly throughout the meal. Everything felt creative, rich in flavor, and very texture-focused. Here are the highlights: * Ankimo Mousse (monkfish liver) with sweet potato chips - Made with truffle paste, capers, and chives. Absolutely delicious. The mousse was rich and savory but surprisingly fluffy in texture -- honestly a savory girl's dream. The sweet potato chips added just enough sweetness and a snap to balance the richness of the liver. 9/10 * Bluefin Tuna & Tsubugai Sashimi Nuta - Bluefin tuna, sea snail, broccolini, and fresh wakame tossed in a sweet Kyoto yuzu miso vinaigrette. Kind of like a sashimi-seaweed salad. I really liked the vinaigrette and especially the texture of the sea snail. I'm not sure all the ingredients fully came together cohesively, but it was still enjoyable overall. 7.5/10 * Yuba (house-made tofu skin with ikura and uni) - Served as single bites on spoons. SO good. You can really taste the difference between house-made tofu skin and store-bought. It's much more delicate, creamy, and tender, with a mild soybean flavor that balanced the richness of the uni and salmon roe beautifully. The textures in this bite were incredible. 9.5/10 * Iberico Pork Jowl Skewer with miso marinade - I honestly prefer pork jowl over pork belly. The fat and meat are more integrated instead of layered, so every bite is tender, juicy, and flavorful with just the right amount of chew. So good. 9/10 * Clam & Cilantro Ramen - I've never had a ramen broth quite like this. It was slightly creamy and deeply flavored from the clams, and the cilantro added a lot of depth and freshness. The noodles had a great texture too -- chewy and bouncy. Everything worked together perfectly. 9/10 * Uni Carbonara Pasta - Pasta with parmesan, uni, and ikura. They do not skimp on the uni or roe here. Super creamy and rich with bursts of saltiness from the ikura. The texture was great, but I honestly wished it had just a tiny bit more salt to really make all the flavors pop. It was almost there for me. 7.5/10 * Desserts - We tried two desserts, including the sweet potato brûlée. Both were delicious. One had a silky panna cotta-like texture, while the sweet potato brûlée was creamy, lightly sweet, and had the perfect crackly sugar top. 9/10 Overall, such a fun meal with a lot of unique dishes and flavor combinations. There are still so many things on the menu I want to try next time. I'll definitely be back.

The standouts were the corn tempura, the sushi and the beef okonomiyaki. The skewers were good but not great; I felt the pork belly was a tad salty, and some of the pieces of the beef were slightly overcooked + chewy. The black cod was flaky but I wish it was marinated a bit more with the miso for stronger flavor. I wish I did not order the spring roll or the foil wrapped salmon. The spring roll was soggy bc the filling inside was so damp and lacked seasoning & flavor. The salmon was very dry, but the mushrooms were flavorful and juicy. Definitely recommend reservations or be ready to wait at least 45 minutes. The inside is quite small, tables as well, so be ready to sit pretty close to your neighboring patrons. Very lively atmosphere that can get loud, but could also be fun!
