After our meal, she said she'd definitely be back. We each had a cold Japanese beer served in a perfectly chilled mug--refreshing and a great pairing with our food. I had the salmon teriyaki dinner, which came with miso soup, salad, and rice. Everything was satisfying and just right. After too many years away, it was a joy to return to Kyoto. I ordered the sashimi (salmon and yellowtail) along with a specialty roll topped with yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the cuts were thick enough that you actually felt like you were getting your money's worth instead of paper-thin slices. The roll was outstanding. Every bite was balanced--none of the fish overpowered the others, the rice wasn't packed too tight, and there wasn't enough sauce to hide the quality of the ingredients. Just clean, fresh flavors done right. The service was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and everything came out quickly. I'll definitely be back the next time work brings me to Rohnert Park. As soon as we entered, the owner greeted us warmly and invited us to sit anywhere we liked. She is genuinely charming who takes time to chat as time allows. She mentioned they have been open 19 years! I believe she said she prepares the Korean dishes and her spouse takes care of the Japanese dishes. What a winning duo! We ordered an unagi dolsat, two beef dolsat and tofu soup with chicken. The owner brought us some house made kimchi which was a nice treat before our entrees arrived. Food was prepared quickly and delivered with a smile. My family thoroughly enjoyed their dolsat which was rice topped with protein of choice, lots of veggies and a fried egg. They were delighted to find the signature crispy crust at the bottom of their stone pot, a sign that it was made with sufficient heat. My tofu soup came bubbling hot. I ordered it medium spicy and I enjoyed all the ingredients inside. We are delighted to find a new spot to satisfy our Korean food cravings. I am still completely shocked by what happened at dinner tonight…read more The four of us went to a restaurant we've visited many times before. My mom loves their poke bowl and always orders it with less rice because she doesn't want to get filled up. Every other time she's ordered it this way, she's received a reasonable amount of rice--less than normal, but still enough for the meal. When my mom's poke bowl arrived, it had almost no rice at all. Since there was barely any rice worth mentioning, she told the waitress about it and asked for some rice to compensate. She was brought a small bowl of rice and added some to her Poke. When the bill came, we noticed she had been charged $5 for the rice. We politely asked the waitress about it. The owner overheard, and interject telling us that because my mom asked for less rice, she received less rice. We explained that wasn't the issue--we were confused about being charged extra for rice when the original portion was so unusually small.....nonexistent. The owner insisted that my mom hadn't asked for "half rice" and then went on to tell us that "you Americans don't understand how poke bowls work." At that point, we were stunned. We tried to explain our concern, but the conversation only became more frustrating. Eventually, I said to forget it and that we would just pay the extra charge. Instead of letting the matter go, the owner brought the chef out of the kitchen to further explain why we shouldn't have expected more rice. It was incredibly insulting and completely unnecessary. She would not stop berating us. We repeatedly asked her to stop, but she continued arguing the point. What should have been a simple question about a side charge turned into a lecture and a confrontation. We finally got up and left. This wasn't about the cost of the rice. It was about the way we were treated. We've been loyal customers for a year since she opened, and I've never experienced anything quite so disrespectful in a restaurant. Shame on you, Yu. Telling everyone we know.... and we know a lot of people here.
