Dr. Shida Saam is awesome. I just barely moved heaven and earth to get back to her. She has helped me through so many weird scenarios. She cares about me and totally remembers who I am even though I only visit her a few times a year. She is super-encouraging in so many aspects of my life. So her staff once lost a prescription of mine once but they figured it out within 30 minutes. I was forced to change doctors because of my new insurance plan and let me tell you what, my new doctor's office was so much more poorly managed that we switched insurance providers so I could come back as a happy camper to Shida Saam's office. read more

Every time when you talk to her you feel like she is not trying to help you. Even in the office when she takes the intake you see her attitude. She made you feel very upset everytime when she picks up the phone. She makes you feel why you called the office and taking her time. I have been seeing Dr. Shida Saam for a couple of years now and she has always taken care of me. She seems really interested in my health and well being. The staff is great and I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to be called in. However, there is a small wait time for the doctor to actually come in, though the assistants will do preliminary checks and take down your concerns while you wait . Recently I lost weight since my last visit along with a combination of other symptoms, she showed concern for my health and has given me the recommendation to do a colonoscopy to check my stomach. The only disappointment that I have is that she is not currently accepting any new patients and my significant other really wants Dr. Saam to be her PCP. read more

I went to Dr. Saam today to request a letter to submit to the court to be excused from jury duty. She asked me what the court wanted, so I proceeded to read to her some language I got off the court website. She flipped out and accused me of dictating the letter to her. Then, I asked her if her staff could address the letter to the court mailing address in standard business letter style, she flipped out again and accused of me of dictating language to her. (The last time her staff wrote a letter for me, they made a bunch of typos and mistakes in taking my body temperature!). I also asked her of she had real letterhead (the last letter I received had a simple stamp at the top and the Consulate I showed it to did not believe it was real letterhead). In other words, her letterhead sucks (she doesn't have real letterhead). I guess she got offended because she got really defensive. She was SO RUDE to me, she was acting like she was annoyed with me the entire time, as if she could care less about my health problems or my feelings. I am going through a very tough time right now and she sent me into a full-on panic attack and crying bought. Every time I tried to speak she cut me off, or rudely snapped at me. I never had an opportunity to tell her about my ears hurting and that I thought I had an ear infection. I also, have another severe medical reason that could have been a 2nd valid reason to get out of jury duty. But I never had an opportunity to relay that to her either because she got angry, rolled her eyes, sighed loudly and left the room abruptly then slammed the door! I was SHOCKED at this behavior from a grown women and a doctor. She quickly yelled at her staff to write me a letter and then I heard her enter another patients room immediately. I could hear her acting fake and nice to the patient next door in her usual phony way like a Jekyll/Hyde doctor. Rude one second. Nice the next. I could not believe what had just happened. This monster made me feel so bad for asking her questions and for asking that the letter be written professionally (Again, last time her staff wrote a letter it had typos and they didn't know what they were doing). I left my room and asked to speak to the office manager, but she was busy on the phone. That demon, Dr. Saam came out and spoke to me again because she saw me complaining to her staff, I proceeded to tell her how rude she was and that I could not believe that she had just done that. She got a little embarrassed and then we went back into my patient room were the situation escalated very quickly. I told her that she was very rude and horrible the way she had just left the room so angrily and that I had not had an opportunity to tell her about my ears hurting. I told her that she was the worst doctor I have ever been to while crying hysterically, by this time I was yelling at her that she should appreciate that I had given her feedback about her staffs low performance. She did not care, she never apologized, she just said that she was the busiest doctor in Orange County and then she said that she was not going to write the letter and left the room again. Before I leaving the office, I again said, "You are the worst doctor I have ever seen" and she replied, "Then why don't you go see someone else, go to your psychiatrist, I don't care" in the most cold and cruel manner. This women has always been fake and rude to me. She has always forgotten things and I do not know why I ever put up with her in the past. I have often had issues with her staff and her nurses assistants as well, they are always confused and don't know what to do because she is always shouting instructions at them quickly and trusting them to do her job. That is how she operates her office, like a yelling, short-tempered tyrant. I left there crying and had a full-on anxiety attack because of her. She is not fit to be a doctor. Do not go to her if you want to see a doctor that is caring and compassionate and listens. She does not listen. She judges and scolds you instead like a total ruthless, uncaring, inhumanly cruel, wicked person. * 9/25/17: Update, I told my pyschiatrist (she is Persian too) about Dr. Saam and right away she recognized her name. She told me that she has heard about her rude and uncaring reputation from some of her other patients. My psychiatrist wrote my letter to get out of jury duty and she was professional and caring. The doctor is only interested in making money. I made an appointment for the first time as a new patient to see her due to a medical issue. I provided the front office with a copy of my health insurance card. They demanded that I pay the co-pay of $25. I kept explaining to them that BOTH my out-of-pocket and deductible have been met so the insurance should cover the entire bill at 100 percent. They made me contact my insurance to confirm this. I was on hold for approximately 20 minutes with the insurance when I told them that I was not going to wait any longer to waste time on the phone with the insurance company. I asked him to bill me instead. They refused even after asking the doctor. At the front office staff, after speaking with the doctor, told me to reschedule after confirming benefits with my insurance. She lost a patient for $25. I am an attorney so the $25 is not an issue. It is the principal that matters and the fact that this doctor cares more about money than treating patients. read more

I'm Persian and I feel like that's the only reason I get the couple seconds of attention that I do when I'm in her exam room. Went to her with several health problems - some that developed from dance over the years, some that I was born with, some that had developed probably from stress/depression - it took forever for her to agree to send me to specialists. She didn't want to do anything. She seemed to think I was making up my problems or being dramatic, and making these judgments after seeing me for 5 minutes once every few months and not even remembering my name (with my chart in front of her, mind you). So finally I go to a cardiologist, and what do you know - I have vasovagal syncope and heart palpitations. No big deal, but at least now I can put a name to what I'm feeling and know how to handle it all. I never would have gotten that information if I hadn't called 20 times and pushed and pushed and PUSHED for my referral. Then I go to physical therapy for my knee and shoulder. Do physical therapy for 2 months - no improvement. Therapists say I definitely need imaging. Some chance I might need surgery. I call back and forth another 20 times, doing the office's job for them to get this through to Dr. Saam (note: the office staff are really nice, they just don't seem to get the job done and never remember any information we've gone over in previous calls or visits), and to have her give the ok to put a request through to the insurance. She's hesitant. Finally puts the request through - FOR MY SHOULDER ONLY. This part pisses me off, because every single time I called, I talked about the severe pain in BOTH my knee and shoulder. The therapist read me what she put in the discharge notes, and I know she didn't single out my shoulder. I've had pain in both for years. I'm trying to be responsible and do something about it, but instead of helping, Dr. Saam seems to get in the way. Then there was the time I mentioned the word "hysterectomy" and she wouldn't stop scoffing and laughing at me and telling me no one was going to give me one and I was crazy, even though NO WHERE IN MY VISIT DID I SAY I WAS ASKING BECAUSE I WAS INTERESTED IN GETTING ONE. I was asking because I was curious about the effect on a woman's hormones. It was a side question. I just threw it out there. I didn't realize it was going to end up costing me my entire visit that I'd been waiting for for two months. Because I wasn't able to talk to her for one second after that about the reasons I was there, because she basically ran out of the room. Which, btw, is what she's done every single time I've seen her. I ended up chasing her out of the exam room like a sad, desperate little kid, and asking my questions in a small, nervous voice, hoping she'd turn around to answer me. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND DOCTORS WHO BEHAVE LIKE THIS. My biggest problem is that I obviously can't trust her. So I had to deal with finding another doctor who I can trust, because I don't actually feel like I can go to her with anything. She'd just treat me like there's nothing wrong with me, she'd take forever to get back to me, she'd deny me care. And so far, every specialist I've gone to has identified that there are major things we have to treat. (I don't have the greatest physical genes, in case you haven't guessed lol. Really need someone I can go to who will LET ME TALK and maybe NOT laugh at me.) One redeeming quality of that office was the Physician's Assistant, Irene, but she left a while ago. She took her time with you, listened to you, and did everything she could to help. I couldn't imagine her ever acting judgmental like that. The one mandatory star in the review goes to her, but a lot of good that does since she's gone now. read more

If I can give zero I would. Honestly this doctor is not very nice and treats patients like numbers and not humans. I've never had a woman's world check up and it was my first time! I was scared and she didn't care. I was taking a long time to get comfortable and she got mad! She said she had other patients and to come back when I was ready! I'm so disappointed. I love Dr. Saam, but her front office are mean. One time I went for my physical and my husband was on a rush and we had to go but I wanted to make a follow up appointment and I asked the front desk lady if she can call me to set up an appointment and another lady point her finger on my face and said YOU HAVE TO CALL! She was so rude. That issue was resolved. Next time I called to set up an appointment when I called I told them that I changed jobs and I change insurance. I gave my info they told me that everything was okay they called me a couple times to change the appointment and confirm the appointment but they never mentioned anything about my insurance. When I got there they told me that my insurance wasn't valid. I called my insurance they told me that everything was fine. Because the front desk ladies were too lazy to confirm my insurance. Dr. Saam splits her time between this Tustin location and her other office in Irvine (off Sand Canyon.) I've visited her here on Tuesdays and Thursdays and know she's in Irvine on Wednesdays. I typically schedule my appointments early in the morning (they open at 9AM) because like most doctors' offices, there are multiple bookings for the same time slot, and you never know how late you'll be pushed back if something happens early in the day. I once waited almost an hour and half for something that took less than 10 minutes. This office is shared with another doctor and Dr. Saam has 2 of the patient rooms. Her staff is very kind and helpful. I highly recommend going to her as your family physician. It was recommended to me from a personal friend when I moved to Irvine from another city. My first time in they forgot to charge me for my copay, but still held me liable. It took them 3 weeks to get one of my medications verified and give me a written prescription. I have an HMO and was forced to select a new PCP, so I read the reviews for my local options and Selected Shida Saam. Almost all the reviews were outstanding. I read a couple of negative reviews but being in HR it was clear the patients don't understand how insurance and physician contracting works. They also appeared to be very unreasonable and difficult patients in my opinion, the type of people you can never make happy. You will never get away from some of those out there and unfortunately they have a forum to put their negativity on display just like I have the opportunity to share what a positive experience this was. Having an HMO has become much more challenging as I get older and my medical needs have increased, needing more specialist referrals, which have been hit and miss in the past. But it's just too expensive to have a PPO these days especially when you have to keep using the insurance and the copayments pile up. I have been amazed starting with my first visit to Shida Saam and her staff. My very first appointment I saw her Nurse Practitioner who was beyond incredible!!! She addressed so many of my issues and I received follow ups from her office staff on referrals literally within 1-2 days. Second appointment - I made an appointment with her Nurse Practitioner again because she was awesome. Same treatment and extraordinary referral response time. I have never had such a great experience using an HMO in my 40's! I am still raving about Shida Saam's Nurse Practitioner and her office staff to my friends and family. I had to share my experience because frankly it's rare these days! I am so grateful for her caring and compassionate demeanor and the professionalism and efficiency at her office. I don't understand the negative reviews. Dr Saam has been my doctor for year. She is very caring. I was on a vacation and had to go to a different doctor. He couldn't wait to get me out the door and go to his next patient. Dr Saam is one of the few that listens. Doesn't just want to get you out the door. The only issue I had was with the front desk years ago where they were supposed to call in my meds, and they forgot until the office was closed. I was going on a vacation and needed my meds. I called her emergency line and left a message. She called me from her personal cell at 8pm to assure me she had called in my med order. I couldn't ask for more. read more
