I'm thinking that this store must have changed management since I was last there. A few year's back, the place was service-oriented and pricing was good. In a recent visit to buy some paint, I would summarize the assistant who helped us to be on commission and clearly trying to sell up! Year's ago, I was a house/commercial painter, so I knew what I wanted to purchase, and I sense when someone doesn't know what he/she is talking about. On this particular visit, no matter what I requested, the salesman tried to convince me to buy the highest priced paint! Knowing what I already had on the walls, I told him that the color I was choosing would likely cover in one coat - so, I didn't need a high quality guaranteed one-coat paint. He still persisted though! I, then, told him that it was down between two similar color choices, and that I would need a sampler to test on the walls. Currently, their samplers are $15+ which I thought was ridiculous; particularly knowing that other stores charge around $10. After much wasted time with him, I turned to walk out of the store when he called me back and said, as an alternative to sample color paints, they also sell large colored squares for $5 each. I turned to my wife and whispered that probably didn't first offer this choice until he knew that I wasn't 'biting' on his $15 sampler price. I then took a quick glance over to the counter to see his associate actually grinning. He knew that I was being 'worked over' and that guy was taking delight in seeing his friend's work his commission-style sales effort on us. Taking this all in, I left and drove over to Lowe's located just next door. There, I found Sherwin-Williams paint, the same levels of quality, for much cheaper pricing. Samples there were $10 each and the people behind the paint counter really knew their stuff! My opinion was only reinforced when I requested an unusual alteration to the color chip and they mixed it to perfection. People at Lowe's paint have much more experience and are more willing to work with the customer - and, they don't work on commission. If you don't wish to be 'gamed' and are looking for good customer service then Lowe's paint department just next door offers everything you want along with quality Sherwin-Williams paint. To those who aren't experienced in painting this is the perfect sucker stop. read more

We chose Sherwin Williams to get paint for our nursery because of their excellent 30% off Labor Day sale. We ended up using 2 gallons plus a quart of white touch up for a 9x12 room- each gallon was about $42 with the sale. This location is great because it's pretty much always empty so you really look around and take your time. The staff is very kind and helpful. The one thing that is pretty strange is that all 5 times I went in to purchase something there was something wrong with the credit card transaction. It either wasn't working or going super super slow or some random issue that required calling the processors. Of course this Is not the staffs fault and they were very apologetic. Overall, I like the one on one advice and the ability to not have to fight for an associate like at Home Depot. Make sure you sign up for the free paint perks program online before making a purchase and they will send you a $10 coupon off of a $50 purchase. Super helpful! read more

If Westin is working, run far away! Go to a different store! He is friendly but incompetent. Gave me the wrong information once and also mixed up the wrong paint formulation on another visit, wasting my time and money. The other employees are great, but Westin is HORRIBLE. UPDATE: The manager and all other employees of this store are amazing and have been extremely helpful in correcting the previous problems I mentioned above. I've increased the stars in this review for that reason. Daisy and Carlos in particular are friendly, considerate, knowledgeable, and helpful. Much more helpful than the staff at the local home improvement store paint desks. I've been ensured that they're training Westin to bring him up to the same level of expertise, but I'm sure that will take some time (so watch out for who is helping you). I am extremely impressed with the response from the staff - quick and proportionate compensation. Great customer service that ensures I will continue to return to that store. We've been here a few times and have always enjoyed good personalized service. A couple weeks ago the store manager, Danae, was helping us and we had a question about what type of primer to use for a retaining wall. We had some unusual circumstances and asked for her advice. She was very knowledgeable herself, but got on the phone to confirm with a senior Sherwin-Williams employee. She took her time explaining the situation and relayed his recommendations to us. I came in to buy a 5 gallon container of white paint. They did not have a 5 gallon container and wanted to charge more for 5, 1 gallon containers. The only store that had the color I wanted did not have the white I needed for trim. They called for me and Poway had white. The person who waited on me in Poway could not understand that I had to go to 2 stores to get both colors. What is so hard to understand about this? After having to repeat myself for the 3rd time the store with the color did not have white. (Was he not listening)? By this time was getting frustrated and I guess my voice reflected my frustration because at this point he now unloads viscously on me. He is allowed to be unbelievably rude but I cannot be frustrated by such poor service? I said I would come back when I could get the 5 gallon price but honestly I will not come back period. The store where I bought the color is calling others stores and getting the white for me and will honor the 5 gallon price regardless of how it comes. And they were most gracious. read more

McKenna from the Poway store, and Ralph from the Carmel Mountain store, we're both amazingly helpful to me, as I had a bit of a unique situation needing to translate Old Quaker paint codes. McKenna has a great eye for color subtlety and nuance. We purchased paint based upon Sherwin-Williams paint chart, selecting a beige/tan color. Asked our contractor to purchase 5 gallons of this very expensive paint. While we were at work our contractor painted 3 bedroom walls. Got home and tan paint dried with a very pink cast, not reflective of the color chart. Went back to Sherwin Williams to request a remix of the rest of the paint. They blamed our contractor for using part of the paint and therefore they would not remix the balance to one shade difference to get rid of pink cast. Employees were rude and if you expect a good paint match and good customer service don't buy your paint from Sherwin Williams! read more
