Yes, the customer service can be spotty here, mostly due to understaffing at peak traffic times. That being said, the team is friendly and helpful if you're okay with browsing paint samples while patiently waiting your turn. My favorite thing about Sherwin-Williams is their color consultation service. I paid far too much money to someone who charged a pricey hourly rate while she hemmed and hawed over shades of greige and left me with a paint plan that made my contractor raise his eyebrows with concern. Seeking a second opinion, I popped into Sherwin-Williams, paid $95, and scheduled their in-house consultant to swing by my home the following week. Cami, the consultant, arrived on-time and ready to go. We managed to knock out both exterior and interior color schemes in 90 minutes! She quickly homed in on my style, gave great pointers, and was pleasant as can be. She left me with a customized paint plan as well as a little flip book of my paint scheme to tote around when picking furnishings and accessories. The icing on the cake? I'm a painting contractor in Austin tTexas that's primarily used SW paints for the last 5 years. As a company we've used SW for close to 17 years. I have largely moved away from using their products simply because they can't seem to keep anything in stock. However every once in a while I will have to use them because a certain color is needed that isn't able to be matched at other stores. For the last two years I have switched to Benjamin Moore and I've had much better success at getting my products and much better customer service. These days I do my best to stay away from SW for several different reasons but as I sit here in the store this morning I just can't help but shake my head. I called in my paint about two hours ago and when I showed up everyone was just standing around and the paint had not been made yet. I'm not sure why I even called it in in the first place if they are going to make it ahead of time. Not just that but it seems that every SW you call the phone will just ring and ring and ring with no answer and I can see why. As I sit here watching employees stand around while the phone rings it just blows my mind. Do these guys not care anymore? I can't even get our main paint rep (Jesse) to call me back after numerous phone calls and text messages. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these guys, use Benjamin Moore or Home Depot instead. read more

While YMMV with Sherwin Williams stores across the nation, THIS one is definitely NOT run by idiots. All the guys and gals here know their paint - ask them anything from brushes to roller covers to paint colors and paint types. -Not a lot of people buy the color purple passage. 11 sold in 2011, twice to me. Make sure you get an account so they can keep track of your paints and sheens. -Never buy anything full price unless you have to - 30% and 40% coupons can be found on their email list fairly regularly. -Beware, when you go in for trim paint, both their water and oil based enamels are called "proclassic" - make sure you specify which kind of proclassic you want. I got oil based when I wanted water based - and an employee told me about a lady who wanted oil based but got water based and was far more irate than me. Perhaps this means SW should change the name of one of them. -Ask for free can opener and stirring sticks. -Apparently white samples are not very accurate. For the record, Snowbound is a very stark white. Alabaster is a slightly warm white, but still white. Dover white is a creamy white. Heron plume is sort of a tan-grayish white. -You cannot paint with their "color to go" samples, it is essentially colored water. -Quarts are about half the price of gallons, but only a quarter of the paint. Not a good value. -Harmony is their low VOC paint, I LOVE it because it's as close to odorless as paint gets. However, you cannot get it in some dark colors (the ones that need the deep base.) read more

When I shop at a paint store, I really like to pick the guys' brains about which product would be best for my specific application. At this store, I was hard-pressed to find an "expert" or anyone who could help me, for that matter. The "guys behind the counter" seemed more interested in helping the professional painters who came in and bought a gazillion buckets of paint. Time for me they did not have. While I did not need a painter, I had one of the painters who was picking up his gazillion buckets hand me a card and tell me what a great painter he is. After exiting the store, another painter approached me with his arm outstretched, handing me a card. And as I walked to my car, another painter followed me asking me "how big is my house?" I found this to be strange from my experience at the other Sherwin Williams stores where I have always been treated fairly well. Here I was given little or no service and all of the attention was on the painters and the painters attention was all on me. But I do not want a painter, I want paint. I would say that if you are a painter, this is the store for you. EDIT: 4/02 Paint matching is a skill of all of the senses. I have been selecting paint at this Sherwin-Williams for many years. I specify paint, I don't purchase it. So when I go in I'm grabbing color samples or buying a $4.99 sample can to test a color on a client's wall. I have always had great service from the SW Paint Boys. They know their sh*t. Sad to say the Martha Stewart Collection is gone--I really did like many of the colors. But Martha got greedy and asked for an additional $5.00 to be added to each paint purchase for her pockets. You'd think she had learned her lesson about greed. Sherwin-Williams has a great website to help you select a color for a room or office. Check out their "Color Visualizer". It is under the "Professional" section. Of late, the company has produced green paint products. The "Harmony" paint line contains no VOCs and the "Duration Home" is equally without VOCs and has no odor. Of course, they also carry wood stains and painting supplies. read more

Took my 5 and 2 yr old daughters with me to this joint to get some samples mixed up to slap on the side of my ugly domicile. The super nice gal behind the counter was very spritely, I do declare, her stature slight with the voice of a gnome princess. She was super cool and asked my 5 year old if she would like to come behind the counter to watch how paint is made. My daughter beamed. She felt very special. I, in turn, felt very special. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! Though my paint was wonderful, my experience in the store was awful. Here's the long story... There were three employees working when I visited the store. One girl was helping a client pick out a stain. One guy was helping me. One girl was doing absolutely nothing... definitely not helping any of the other people in the store. Her deliberate lack of work was blatant enough for both me and my boyfriend to actually take note of it. The guy checking us out was clueless. I was a new client so he had to put me into the computer system in order to check me out. He was having difficulty doing this, and said that their internet must be down. He proceeded to call another Sherwin Williams location to see if their internet was down (as if that made any difference at all), then he tried to fix the supposed internet problem himself for about 10 minutes. All the while, I'm just standing at the checkout line waiting while the one employee discussed stains with the lady and the other employee continued to do nothing. When we finally got to check out, there was no apology about the wait or anything like that. It seriously was a 30 minute wait at the check out line while he tried to figure out how to get us into the system. All the while, NO ONE in the store was able to complete a purchase. There were at least five other people waiting to check out at the time. It was ridiculous. Although I loved the paint, I will definitely never set foot in that store again! read more

Except for the occasional new-hire trainee, everyone at this store knows their stuff. If you have a question they can't answer, they're quick to pick up the phone to ask someone who can. Everyone is easygoing and professional. Everyone there can provide anything you're looking for - if you have any special questions or needs, managers Andy and Nathan will take care of you. Definitely, wait if you can wait for a couple weeks- find out when they're having their 40% off sales and sign up for an account to get emails of deals (especially if you're doing an exterior- this could save you hundreds of dollars!!). I have been to several paint stores in Austin and will just keep coming back to this one now b/c each time, I was consistently greeted by efficient, qualified folks ready to help. Super frustrating experience. They were reasonably staffed when I came in but there was a communication issue with the salesman who "helped" me. I explained that I needed a specific color for some small touch ups on a wall at home. I showed him a picture of the specifications for the color I wanted and he mixed me a sample quart. What was NEVER explained to me, was that these sample quarts do NOT come in a flat finish. They only come in a satin finish. Therefore, I was sold a quart of paint that I CANNOT use to complete my touch ups. It really should've been thoroughly explained that the sample quart ONLY comes in a satin finish, and that unless the paint on my walls at home has a satin finish, the sample quart would only be useful for confirming the color. I would be a satisfied customer if I had been better advised. read more

A business was trying to get away with using some of the lowest quality, cheapest paint for this project, so I sought other opinions. My wife and I decided to check out the paint sale today that SW keeps advertising on TV. It was early on Sunday morning, so there was only one other customer in the store. There were two employees on the floor, and only one was taking care of the customer. The other was standing around chatting and texting on his phone. My wife and I just bought a home that needs some work. We need about 15 gallons of paint and are a little clueless as our last home required almost no work. After about 10 minutes of wandering around the store looking obviously perplexed at all of our options and needs, we got fed up and left. Only then, on our way out the door, did either of the employees express any interest in us. I've heard good things about the paint itself, but we won't get to find out. We received better, and a more personable help at the local big box store which surprised my wife and I considering this store was set up like a design center that you would see when building a new home. read more

My rating specifically goes to an associate at this Sherwin Williams. Michael was very patient with me and overly helpful in obtaining a match to some stain I needed more of. The original can's label was worn off and unreadable. I unfortunately, left the can out during a rain storm and it got diluted with water. I was about 85% done with my staining project when this happened. I took the can to the store to get a new can of the same stain. I had remembered the stain color and new what type I needed so I didnt think it would be that difficult to work up a new can. Well, after 2 runs at the color (based on the color card sample of the name I had remembered) for some reason they weren't matching the original can. Michael was doing everything he could to help me. ...The color just wasnt coming out right. I left the first day with the expectation of coming back with the exact information needed to match the can. (My painter had actually purchased the can, so I called him to ask what business name he bought it under.) Upon returning Michael looked up the business name in the computer system and even called other stores to see if it was purchased elsewhere... To no avail! He offered to color match, so I brought in a piece that I was working on for him to match. The next day he called me and said he was successful and when I picked up the can he was still enthusiastic and helpful. His patience should be rewarded. I was able to finish my staining project with the same color thanks to Michael! read more

Definitely not the place to go if you are in a hurry. Because I've been to the store a handful of times before and know they are generally understaffed and exceptionally slow, I called ahead to order my paint. The person on the phone took down all the details, said no problem, and said it takes about 10-15 minutes to make a can of paint. Great. I headed over to the store, walked in, gave my name, and she said, "Okay, I'll make your paint now." ...what? I confirmed with another employee that calling ahead to order paint just "gets it in the system" and doesn't actually get your paint made in advance for you. Not quite sure what the point of "getting it in the system is", but he explained that too many people call ahead and don't pick up their paint and that I would have needed to pay in advance to get my paint made in advance and ready on arrival. Fair enough. Perhaps that's something you should start communicating to customers who call ahead. I think you'll find most of us don't really care about "getting it in the system", we are calling in to order paint the hopes that it will be ready when we arrive. read more

It took me about ten minutes to pick out my products, and then an extra 50 minutes for them to mix the paint and ring it up. My cashier spent at least 10 minutes struggling with the register. I didn't go to this Sherwin-Williams expecting to give it a review at all, let alone a 5-star review, but I received a top-5 all-time customer experience from any store I've ever been to anywhere. The only other place where employees just seemed so over-the-top friendly and overly accommodating is the Aztec Lube in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The guys working on this particular early Wednesday morning were eager to greet me, were able to use an old photo of a paint lid from 2007 to match my house color, gave me a discount I didn't even know about, and happily carried the paint out to my car, all with giant smiles on their faces. It was almost like they suspected me of being a secret shopper or something, everything just seemed too perfect. read more

Holy cow! Terrible customer service. The guy behind the counter obviously had NO clue what he was doing. Customers in front of us asked, what's the difference between the paints? Guy responds, "the more expensive, the better." We then stand in line for 10 minutes never once acknowledged simply trying to purchase a $3.99 roller tray. Never once did the guy make eye contact, apologize for the wait, or summon someone from the back to assist us for the quick minute it would have taken to check us out. Thank heavens for Claire at the Burnet Rd. store. Not only is she knowledgeable about the available colors and various products, but she also has a good eye for design and what works well together. I was in the store for an hour and a half looking at paint strips, thinking, and tossing ideas around. Claire offered suggestions, put color combos together, and patiently helped. She didn't hover over me, but continually checked back to see if I was making progress toward a decision. That store is very lucky to have someone willing to provide such great customer service. read more

I have always purchased Sherwin-Williams paint. Had to write a review due to the poor service I received this afternoon. I purchased a sample to try and really liked the color on the walls. So I called back and asked if I needed to bring the actual paint sample back to the store to purchase a gallon. I was told no receipt was sufficient. I get to the store and was told I should have the sample. I explained I just called and was told not to bring the sample. They mix the paint with the numbers on the receipt and it looked fine. However, I asked it the sample was flat finish and was told all samples were of satin finish. Unfortunately was told it was to late to change to satin finish. Wish I had been advised that sample are only sold with satin finish. It would have been nice to save as touch up paint. Do yourself a favor and shop else where. Terrible service made it difficult to enjoy painting! read more
