A rare gem in Brunswick, Shere Punjab restaurant is what every Indian restaurant should be! It has a warm and friendly staff that will make you feel at home the minute you walk in through the door. I went to Shere Punjab literally dozens of times and there was not a single time that I left dissppointed. More importantly, the food is out of this world! Everything has a deep, complex, rich and flavorful. From their soups, to their naan, curries, kabbabs and desserts, you cannot go wrong. My personal favorites were the Sahajani Murg, the Paneer and Pakora, the Punjabi and Garlic naan and their Mango Lassi, just to name a few. I have been eating here for many years and never left a review before. Now I can safely say that this is an excellent restaurant. Since Covid began, it's only been takeout. Prior, we ate here regularly. The service was hit or miss, but they always nailed the food. And that has remained so for takeout. They have never made a disappointing item. An absolute delight of a restaurant. Haven't had Indian food at a restaurant recently and this place offered a delicious menu. My husband has never been to an Indian restaurant so this is his first time. We had the kids with us and some have been here while other have not. Hubby tried the chicken tiki masala and I the chicken vindaloo. Both were delicious and the chicken was sooo tender. The chicken was in a tasty sauce. My spice level was a three and to me it wasn't that spicy. I might go to a 5 next time. The scale is to 10. The thing that is to die for was freshly made nan and roti. The garlic nan was incredible with little bits of garlic. If you don't like garlic this is not an item for you. But if you do, this is very garlicky! Best that one can get. So flavorful and fresh. Delicious! I'm a lover of Indian cuisine (because duh) and this place left my husband and I very satisfied. We shared the mixed grill, along with samosas and garlic naan, and everything was superb. The mint chutney was so good we were practically licking the metal bowl. The portions were substantial but we still cleaned our plates. We've been to this place a few times now and we always enjoy the delicious food (I am a sucker for a good saag, while the hubs goes in for curried shrimp), attentive service, and mom-and-pop restaurant atmosphere. Their naan is so good: crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, and they always present you with pappadams and several condiments when you sit down. The only improvement I could recommend would be an air conditioning system; as summers in Maine warm up, it could be handy. read more

I had been wanting to try some Indian take out for a while now and Shere Punjab came highly recommended by many. I had been told by family that during these times, it could be an hour wait time to order and pick up food which was totally understandable after I saw the line when I arrived! I called at 5:30 and was told my food would be ready at 6:30. When we pulled up there were at least six people waiting outside and more were pulling up, so I had high expectations that this was going to be good! A woman came out a few minutes after I arrived and asked for my name. She went in and grabbed a bag off a table that I had seen sitting there since I arrived (and I had gotten there 10 mins early) so I was a little worried the food was going to be cold since I also live 15 minutes away. We got home and were pleasantly surprised by how warm everything still was. We weren't sure how much to order for two people, so we decided to share a chicken tikka masala entree which came with rice and was a decent size. If we hadn't also ordered garlic naan and onion bhaji, it definitely wouldn't have been enough but with everything it was the perfect amount. The naan was flavorful and a great texture. The onion bhaji probably wasn't the best choice for take out as they got a little soft, but the flavor was incredible- we will definitely be ordering these again! The tikka was good. On the phone I was asked how spicy I wanted it and being a newbie I went with mild but I wish it had been spicier. At least I know for next time! Our food came with three sauces (or chutneys I guess is a better term!) A red, a green and a brown. I wasn't sure what any of them were but the red was a little spicy and my favorite of the three, the green tasted a lot like cilantro and the brown was a very sweet sauce that we didn't really care for. I'm not sure which was supposed to go with what, but we would definitely ask for more of the red one next time and skip the brown! With tip, everything came to about $28.00 which I think is quite a deal for what we got. I will absolutely be back, again and again. My new favorite restaurant in Brunswick. I did not expect to find good Indian cuisine in Maine, but I was quite surprised by Shere Punjab. I had masala tea; Punjabi naan; and mango-chutney chicken. There was also introductory flat, thin, tortilla chip-like crackers with three sauces. All together, my taste buds were in overdrive as it was all so tastefully amazing! Still the best restaurant in Brunswick, and the best Indian restaurant we have found in Maine or Mass. the nan is perfectly cooked, with just a little crispness. The samosas are the best we have had anywhere, with a sprinkle of chatt Masala to bring out the flavor. When I came to live in Maine, I was not expecting to live so close to two Indian restaurants. This review will only focus on one of those: Shere Punjab. I have a few things to say about Shere Punjab: 1) you can sit in the window and feel like a mannequin 2) they let you choose the spicieness of your food so you know they really care about you 3) this place is NOT like the rest of Maine! It's so warm!! And the food is incredible! Really top notch. Great amount of vegetarian options and also meat options And gluten free! So inclusive. The food was amazing and very delicious in almost every way possible. The reason why I gave two stars is because the service is quite biased. They were very cold as soon as we came in. My mother greeted the person waiting us and he ignored her. We counted it off as him being a little hard of hearing or shy, but then we saw that he was extremely cheerful to others and we couldn't help but notice they were all brown (we are from Southeast Asia). After being given water and the menus, they left and never came back so my father went up to the counter to give our order. They checked up multiple times on another couple where they were both brown skinned but never us except to give the food that we ordered. Overall, pretty tasty! I liked the (free) papadum -- nice and crisp without being burnt. The aloo gohbi (15$) was also nice, though very sweet. The chana masala (15$) was strangely much spicier than the other dishes, though we requested them all at moderate heat; it was perfectly tasty too. The saag paneer (15$) contained much more cream than I was expecting. I was not a huge fan of the samosa (4$), which was strangely flavorless, or the paratha (3$), which wasn't very flaky. How happy I was to find great Indian food in the middle of Brunswick! This place is great! Really good quality food, very friendly, generally attentive service (10% off for all Bowdoin students, all the time!), and a small & quiet atmosphere makes for an intimate setting. You choose your spicyness factor from a rating of 1-10, which allows everyone to enjoy their dishes... I'm more of a mild girl, but I've had friends who've gotten 10's on their food and sweated/cried throughout the meal - and loved it! Any discussion of Shere Punjab, whether with a Brunswick local or even online, almost always includes some expression of amazement that a small Maine town can have two Indian restaurants within a couple of minutes of each other. But from what I've seen most people, especially locals, prefer Shere Punjab and Bombay Mahal is a bit more touristy. As for food, it's perfectly tasty and the heat scale is very accommodating (but don't get caught up in the difference between 5 and 6 since the scale is merely approximate). The selection is impressive and definitely try some of the different types of naan, they're pretty awesome. Ultimately, just keep in mind that while it's great Brunswick has two Indian restaurants, it's not New York City, much less India so it's helpful to keep perspective about the authenticity of the dishes. Also, the waiters are very helpful and polite but I wouldn't expect a quick bite here so it's probably best to save visits for dinner-time. read more

We go to both but have been mostly going to Shere Punjab The quality of the food is very good, the price is a reasonable and the portion size generous. We have done both take out and eat in and find the environment very cozy and quaint. Service is good. Hands down the most delicious, exquisitely prepared and best value Indian food I've ever had the pleasure of ingesting. We had dinner here on vacation. I will never forget this meal. It was an amazing sensory experience! We shared an appetizer plate (Punjab Special Vegetarian), two naan breads and two entrees (Chana Masala & Aloo Gobhi). Everything was so incredibly tasty and perfectly prepared, we both ate twice what we normally would do! I can smell the spices now as I am recalling this delightful meal. I ate so much I didn't even have room for a Gelato Fiasco dessert (which is just a few yards down the road). Had we known the portions were so big, we would have shared an entree and cut back to 1 naan - and I'm sure we still would have left very full! Great, friendly service too. This restaurant is my favorite for Indian food. When we lived in Maine, my family would come here about once a week. Their selection of dishes is phenomenal, and not overwhelming like some Indian restaurants. The staff are pleasant and patient (like when I can't decide what I want because it's all delicious). Best Indian food I've found so far in Maine. Much better than any in Portland. Good sized portions, friendly service, and just the right amount of spices. Will be going back again and again! In an expensive foodie/college town area, the prices here are reasonable. The food quality is about a 4 star, though consistency isn't always the best, even between two plates at the same table (one soft naan, one over done naan, for example). The portions are average, but not particularly generous - my Mattar Paneer had six pieces of cheese (really, what you're going for in the dish, right?) in a dinner portion, and the lasses are rather small. Still, if you want an inexpensive meal in town, and many of the lunch places are long closed, it's worth checking out. The staff has personality, though that doesn't always translate to friendly or accommodating. My friend and I came here before we had to get ready for the wedding we were going to attend. Forgot the specific names of the dishes we got but it was both vegetarian. It was good but wasn't very spicy. I did say "medium" but my friend said "hot' and both were kind of same levels of spiciness. Plus, we're both to spicier dishes but given, you can't ask for that kind of spice in Maine perhaps. Overall flavor was good though and naan was hot but a bit small.
