Wonderful meal at a Brunswick restaurant that has been revitalized by new leadership - the food is better and more carefully prepared than during my last visit some years ago. We ordered some beverages and the Gobi Pakora (cauliflower fritters) to start. A few of us ordered the Rupee IPA and mango wheat ale, each of which was specifically brewed to go with spicy Asian foods. The mango flavor perfectly complemented the flavors in the food so I definitely recommend ordering it for those who enjoy up here with dinner. I had the mixed tandoori grill, which had chicken kebab, chicken, tikka chicken, tandoori, and shrimp tandoori. They had the right amount of flavor in spice for a delicious platter meal.. my wife ordered the aubergine vindaloo and the smoky chard baby eggplant was delicious as were the vegetables and sauce sauces in which it was served. We'll have to come back for a dessert because we were so full from the appetizer and main course. I have my eyes set on the mango lassi gelato. Bombay Mahal had been on my list for a while so I was happy to make it during a recent visit to Brunswick. When we arrived on a very frigid afternoon, we were the only ones in the restaurant but during our stay, it slowly filled up. There is convenient street parking all along Maine Street. I love the Indian decor even the ceiling tiles are decorated. They have a wall displaying all of their awards, and there's a lot of them. We shared the garlic naan, Pakistani Peshawar naan (sweet) and the mixed grill which included seekh kebab, chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and shrimp tandoori. I am a lover of all sauces and the naan did a good job getting most of it. Wine prices are very reasonable, I didn't see a glass over $12. They also have a nice selection of beers and nonalcoholic options. I love that they collab with another local rockstar, Gelato Fiasco, for some Indian flavors. Bombay Mahal was the perfect stop on the way to Gardens Aglow to keep us warm on the inside! They have the most amazing saag paneer that I've ever had - the spinach was fresh and leafy and just tasted phenomenal. I also never knew I needed a blueberry lassi, but now I want one everywhere I go! The rosewater on top was *chef's kiss* perfection. The service was so warm and welcoming too. We were excited to get this as a treat tonight. My meal, Malai Kofta was so salty as to be inedible. My husband's meal, Coastal Coconut Fish Curry, was bland, salt-less, and watery. My daughter's Dhaba Chicken Curry was also bland, salt-less, and watery. Such a disappointment, and we will not be back. And so expensive! Omg, I reviewed this place three years ago and wow, nothing has changed except the decor. The service is top notch, the food is outstanding. Fresh is the word of the day here, from the naan to the entrees. Spice was spot on and the taste was spot on. These guys are really attentive to the degree of heat and my table mate really appreciated that. Let me start by saying 3 stars does not mean this is a bad review, but an honest one. There are pros and cons about this place. It's located in a cute downtown area, with loads of shops and restaurants. There's plenty of parking available. You're greeted with a lovely ambiance. The paint and decor selections are exquisite and give an authentic modern desi experience. I noted quite a few plaques on their wall of awards. This led me to anticipate a superb experience. The servers are very attentive and friendly. That gives this place charm. However, we were a little surprised by the order our dishes were served. We ordered an appetizer "Aloo chaat" Our main courses were "British chicken tikka masala" and "Homestyle yellow daal" and butter naan. We received butter naan and nothing else. The server did catch this and offered chutneys to go with it as we waited for the other dishes. Finally, everything arrived at once.. instead of appetizers first. Perhaps this was because we came at 8pm and they close at 8:45pm. Also, we didn't say anything because we try to be pleasant customers who aren't needy. I just felt to include this info on the review for other Yelpers. Butter naan- 4/5 stars British chicken tikka masala- 4/5 stars, but had large pieces of ginger Homestyle yellow daal- 3/5 stars. My husband is Indian so we have high standards. Aloo chaat- 3/5 stars. It was a different take on typical aloo chaat, not horrible but not great. Very clean place, lots of seating and parking available. Friendly service. Food is good for what they have in the neighborhood, but when compared to other restaurants it's average. First visit while in town. I think this was honestly the best Indian food I have ever had! My sister and I had been wanting to go but the last time we tried it was a Wednesday and they were closed. I live in Florida these days so I don't get back home often. We shared the Gobi Pacora and I got the butter chicken. My sister got the Chicken Saag and we got some Nana. Really amazing flavors. The service was great and we had some leftovers for lunch the next day. Highly recommend and will be back. read more

Bombay Mahal is a Midcoast Maine gem! Excellent Indian cuisine, with reasonable prices, and extremely nice service. They have done a recent facelift, redecorating, and revised menu which were all well received by our family of 7. If you want authentic Indian, with a few Maine only twists, this is your place. Also, if you loved their Mulligatawny soup before the menu change, don't worry! They will still make it for you!!! I LOVE it and order every time I go there! read more

Went in for a late-ish dinner. The food was good and fairly priced. Plenty of parking at this time of the night on a Monday - Maine Street can get busy. I had chicken tikka and my friend had chicken tikka masala. While the chicken was a bit dry, it tasted good. We shared garlic naan. Always delicious. At one point, part of another customers order was delivered to our table. Not a huge deal. Mistakes happen and two different people apologized to us. My issue with it is merely that the food was picked up from our table - we did not eat it - and taken to the other customer. I don't know. It seems like maybe it should have been redone and then delivered to the correct customer. read more

I came back to try this restaurant again and oh boy was I happy that I did. I got takeout and about 45 minutes into my hour and a half drive. I couldn't resist the smell anymore. I stopped my car at a gas station and found an old worn out bench behind the store. I found an old paper plate on the floor of my car (that was clean) and went into the gas station to find a plastic fork. I scurried outside of the store plastic fork in hand, to grab my warm paper bag full of creamy Indian goodness. The Samosa, the garlic naan, and the butter chicken made me feel like I was in a five star restaurant as I sat next to a dumpster and a propane tank behind this gas station in central Maine. 11/10 read more

Hi I recently went to this restaurant and I was really looking for some good Indian food. Everyone was extremely pleasant! Me and my girlfriend got tandoori chicken and it was very bland the Rita was ok. It just tasted like the chicken was marinated in yogurt and food coloring the only flavor I got was from the onions that were cooked with it. Bombay Mahal exceeded our expectations, to say the least. We had a reservation at 6:00 PM for 9 of us, and the other half of our party's vehicle died. We were already there and decided to go with takeout so we could still enjoy food with them, so we walked in and immediately the server understood our circumstances and took care of us. Our food only took about 10 minutes after ordering to be ready, and the employees were so generous and kind. Not to mention the food was delightful, even as takeout. The only negative part of the experience was not getting to eat in the restaurant, as the lighting, decor, and overall vibe was lovely and it smelled incredible in there. Maine's Oldest Indian Restaurant located in downtown Brunswick on the main street ironically named Maine Street. This restaurant never disappoints. They have reopened their indoor dining since Covid, so it was nice to dine in again, though they do amazing takeout as well. We love their garlic Naan and funny thing when we dined in this weekend every table ordered garlic Naan and at least one person at each table had the yummy honey flavored Rupee beer. Free Parking is out front on the Main street or right behind the restaurant is also a free lot. Our shared entrees included chicken saag (creamed spinach with ginger, garlic and onions) that included a generous portion of basmati rice. The second entree was the mixed grill that include a sampling of seekh kebab, chicken tika, chicken tandoori and shrimp tandoor. I love Indian food. And I miss the curries I used to get when I lived in England. Enter Bombay Mahal. I don't know why, but there's something about their food that reminds me of living in the UK. So far, the things I've tried and loved: *Shahi Paneer - This was the thickest "cheese and tomato sauce" curry I've ever had. SO GOOD. Perfect for winter days in Maine. *Baingan Bharta (... I think is what it's called) - I've never had anything like this! Shredded eggplant that's grilled over charcoal then mixed with peas. Smoky, spicy, and just all around an extremely satisfying and pleasant dish. Pleasant tasting, pleasant mouthfeel (is this getting weird?), and it was exceptional as cold leftovers (which I always think is a telling sign of any kind of leftovers). I think this is just a special though, which is kind of a bummer because I think I'd order this every time! *Papads - How are these papads so thick? So flavorful? I will *always* order these. Segue... *Mango Chutney - I was like, "Why am I paying $2.50 for a side of mango chutney?" BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST MANGO CHUTNEY EVER, THAT'S WHY. I was eating this with a spoon at one point. Anyway, this is one of those places I feel like I'd have fun exploring more of the menu. Next time I think I'll get mutter or saag paneer (let's be honest: I'll probably get them both). Their food is on point and I like the butter chicken. The portions are unfortunately very small for the price. Butter chicken is almost $20 but there are about 6 small pieces of chicken breast and a small portion of rice. No addons like I am used to. I do go here when I am craving Indian but it's EXPENSIVE, for the portion. They also get my order incorrect many times. They also don't pickup the phone often and so it's hard to order food with them. Customer service has always been pleasant. Ambiance is very traditional Indian. read more
