Living Ghost Town [Chloride AZ]…read more It's quiet but definitely not a ghost town located 22 miles from Kingman. Not to be confused with the ghost town in Chloride, New Mexico, this place is actually an old inhabited mining town. The town was founded in the 1860's when silver was discovered. During mining days the town had a bank, hotels, barber shops, a pool hall, saloons and restaurants, some of these structures are still there, cool preserved buildings... about 2,000 people lived in Chloride then. There is a working Post Office on site. The mines shut down when workers went to fight in WWII. The cemetery outside of town is one of the state's oldest located on Patterson Road, even though the cemetery has recent burials, there are many unknown and old graves, some of the headstones dated back to the early 1900's. The main road is on Tennessee Avenue, we drove around and looked at the old houses, we passed by a metal yard art. We saw an old service station that once pumped gas when Chloride was one of the busiest and richest mining town during its heyday. In front were some vintage gas pumps that once pumped gas for thousands of cars and trucks. That service station is now someone's private residence. There was an antique store but it was closed at the time. We went shopping at the Mineshaft Market general store/visitor center for little souvenirs and some chips to munch on. We had lunch at Yesterday's Restaurant. Next to the restaurant is an 1860's era rooms w/ air conditioning, TV and WiFi - the Shep's Miners Inn|Hotel. So definitely alive and not a ghost town. We had the family suite room 124 and it was perfect for my family! Even better, there no stairs or elevator to deal with. One of us is having mobility difficulties at the moment and this was a very easy room for that family member to get to and to leave. The room was big and there was a separate room with a bed for the adults. I thought the bed was very comfortable and I was surprised how well I was able to sleep. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels. The breakfast in the lobby was possibly the nicest hotel breakfast I've ever seen. The homemade sausage gravy was delicious! They had an oatmeal bar, a station to make a burrito, cereals, yogurt, waffles, coffee & juices, pastries, bagels, and fresh cut fruit. They offered both sausage patties & sausage links and their eggs were really good. Breakfast is available from 6:00-9:30. I was at the end of my trip and had already washed our clothes or I would have made use of their launderette. It's really nice to have the option to run a quick load of laundry while on the road. They have a pool and jacuzzi that looked clean, but we never made it out there. At check in Bethany at the front desk helped me pick a room that would be easily accessible to our family member who had trouble getting around and she gave me a paper with a map of the hotel. On the back side of the map was another map of the immediate area with a list of various types of restaurants, banks, shopping, entertainment, car washes, and other services that travelers might need. I thought that was a thoughtful touch and appreciated it. We did end up dining at one of the restaurants on the list. It was less than 1 1/2 miles away so was conveniently located. I don't stay in Kingman every year, but I will definitely return to the Best Western Wayfarer Inn & Suites when I do!

With two young, disappointed kids, traveling who knows how much farther away from our destination (Grand Canyon West) could have ruined our trip. Not only did they save our trip, but the owners were super nice and helpful. The room was great- clean, comfy, and well stocked. Everything worked well! So while my kids were disappointed they didn't get horse rides and a campfire, we had a great evening. And I saved a bunch of money, that we promptly spent on souvenirs the next day- so even they are glad with the way things ended up.

Housekeeping was outstanding -- whatever we needed, they took care of it immediately. The rooms in that tower are a little dated, but there's plenty of drawer space and a great view of the river, at least in the room we had, which was on the 17th floor along the river. The rooms offer a Keurig-style coffee maker and bottled water which is free. Water pressure in shower was decent. The only downside is there's no in-room safe. The casino floor is loaded with slots, including a lot of modern machines, plus a decent-sized table games area. There are a few restaurants and a small food court. Staff throughout the casino -- including the drink waitresses -- are constantly checking if you need something, which was a nice touch. We primarily ate at the Aquarius Café because it has amazing deals and the food is decent (reminded me of old Vegas deals) Overall eating there was a huge savings compared to the other options. Valet parking is free, which is another nice touch. And like all the casinos along the river, you've got quick access to water taxis to hop over to other casinos. Of all the casinos located on the river, the Aquarius is by far the nicest. Another note if your gambling winning here was not something we accomplished, but we had a great time

This hotel is alright; it is kind of in the middle of nowhere without much to do near it. We stayed here as we wanted to visit the Grand Canyon Caverns near it. Prior to arriving to the hotel, I did not realize it sits directly in front of a train track. A train goes by once every 30 minutes or so. They have a box of ear plugs at the desk if you need them. While the train horns did wake me up, I drifted back to sleep quickly listening to the train on the tracks. Surprisingly we all had a decent night's sleep, but I know some people would absolutely hate the train tracks being right behind their room. Be aware unless you have Verizon or log into the hotel WIFI, your phone WILL NOT work here! We had zero service so we couldn't call or text anyone if we needed to. The hotel does have a small pool and a hot tub which were nice to use. They also have a small gift shop and a restaurant attached. The biscuits and gravy was delicious for breakfast. Breakfast is not included though; you will need to pay for any food you are wanting.

Tribal business sense and economic development skills have grown, developed and steadily appeared. In 1981, two Traditional Elders of the Yakama and Wanapum Bands of the Columbia River said, "...We're gonna Indianize you chris..." That has happened no matter where my feet landed. Because I was formally introduced to the Baha'i Faith by a Yakama Tribal member, signing my "declaration card" on the Yakama Nation, I have participated in sharing and discussions many of my "Last of the White Guys" co-workers never knew. My views toward "Indian Country" are weighted to the positive side. I see the positive, not so much the negative. I know the distance traveled since my wife's mother was removed from her home, age 7, and trucked to the Truxton Canyon Boarding School, later to the Phoenix Indian School. That is why we booked our stay here on TripAdvisor. We ended up driving more than our planned 6 hours per day, arriving 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May, 23, 2026. We called ahead as the sky darkened. Be advised, Peach Springs is the source of "The Peach Springs Oscillator." The Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, "An Act to aid in the construction of a railroad and telegraph line from the Missouri river to the Pacific ocean, and to secure to the government the use of the same for postal, military, and other purposes." To sweeten the pot for railroad builders, the U.S. Government granted every other 640 acre, 1 square mile "section" of land five miles either side of the railroad right of way. The route of the 1855 railway survey passed through the Traditional Use Area of the Hualapai People. In booming rcomomies, a train every 20 minutes. Slowing economies, mote time between trains. Our economy is slowing in 2026 - at least in goods hauled by railroad. We had an excellent rest, clean sheets, comfy bed. Good selection of channels on our flat screen. We were pleased with our choice.

Apparently, you're better off booking through a third party.
