    Petroglyphs

Went on a Thursday and only the general store was open. Clerk is a wealth of local knowledge and very personable. Store prices are reasonable. So many tourists were visiting looking for the attractions known to be available however the petroglyphs aren't worth it if the 3 antique stores refuse to open during week days and/or poster hours. Suggest calling ahead to the motel or general store to verify what is open before making the 4 miles trip off Hwy 11.

I first visited Chloride to see the Purcell murals in 2008. I returned with some friends in early December 2018. Not much has changed. The town isn't really a ghost town. People live and own businesses here. It is a tourist place. It's also a stop that Pink Jeep will make to show you a Western ghost town. It impresses people from the East. There are some shops that sell hand made jewelry and there's a sense of oddity about the town. Either it wasn't there or I drove by without paying that much attention, but the one place has a group of gnomes inside the wall and there's a sign that says Gnome Retirement Area. From the edge of the town, you leave the pavement and then can drive to see the murals. Check the Yelp listing for the Purcell murals for that part of Chloride.

This is probably the best photo I took...there is not much to work with

If you are looking for a real ghost town this is not it! There is a jinky little town of false facades called a museum. Some of the buildings look like they may be possibly original in the town. People live here. How I don't know. There looks like there is an artist's commune here and if you go all the way up there are some murals and some Indian petroglyphs. If you have a sturdy truck I'd say attempt it if you want but it's rocky and bumpy and you will die if you try this in a regular car. I was unimpressed but the people who still live out here need to survive somehow. I will provide photos so that you can see the town without having to make the trek out there! I know people live here and they count on the tourism to survive but it's just not worth it.

We drove through this little ghost town as a quick 15 minute pit stop on the way to Kingman, AZ. Chloride has an interesting cemetery, with most headstones and markers being made out of "found" crafty items. In fact, the same could be said for the whole town. Chloride residents decorate their town with found items like glass bottles and scrap metal. Another point of intrigue was a sort of Old Western district set up behind the playground area. As we drove by we seen 3 people dressed up in historic Western fashions. Apparently they do reenactments here with shoot outs and everything. Speaking of the Old West, I did spot a few Confederate flags flying around...There were a couple of antique shops, a restaurant, and a bar in town. On the way out, we seen a huge steer with the biggest horns I've ever seen. Truly metal. :) Chloride is worth a stop if you're in the area. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2016: #55

We have been here a few times over the years. When coming from Vegas we head toward Kingman and seem to always stop here. We go to the old cemetery there is no many old grave sites. It is so quiet and peaceful. Then when riding into the little town you will see the old bank and little jail and train station of course most things are really old and starting to fall apart which is really sad to see, Make sure to pick up the free little map at the little market as you head into the town on the right side. There are some really neat little Antique shops on some of the streets, Bottle trees! A woman puts bottles on the trees and the trees grow with them. It is pretty cool to see. We love old places and there is a lot of history here. Neat ghost town that is a must to see once or twice. If you like site seeing and like old places with lots to see make sure to make this one of your stops!

Just follow the arrows to the murals.

This a fun area to take a break off Hwy 93. Grab a cold drink at the little store or grab some grub at the only restaurant. Might just see a gun fight at the Cyanide Springs Corral. Nice little house on the prairie town park. Lots of photo opportunities. Just past the town on Main Street the pavement ends and you can see the giant rock murals. Warning not recommended for low rider cars. Well marked just watch for the painted rocks with arrows.

The best thing about this place is its brochure. It is not well maintained nor are any of the shops worth visiting. Don't waste your time.

The cabins are cute and accommodating, they have everything you need inside them to enjoy a stay. Full refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishes and more. The balcony views are awesome at night. Pirate Cove is a very cool place where people pull up their boats and hang out all day long. The food is delicious, the salads are yummy, but I love the chicken tenders and french fries. You cannot go wrong with those. They have different options for alcoholic drinks, we chose to get a vodka bucket and it was as fun as it looks! We had some mimosas after the bucket! This is a family friendly place and dogs are also allowed. Looking forward to my next trip back here! Great place to tan, relax, hear great music and see some awesome boats! Everyone is very nice and the service was fabulous. I will be back!

The boat launch is nice and wide and the lot has a good amount of parking. The bar/restaurant had a very nice and friendly bartender. Other than one person at the bar, it was us as a party of four. We wanted a snack and picked a thai chili flavored chicken fries. It was a very unique appetizer but the flavors worked well! It was sweet, spicy, the pickled onions added a nice layer of flavor and the fries were crisp and hot. I really liked it! I have been to Pirate's Cove before when it was a very busy weekend and packed. In contrast to this particular visit, it was super chill and so relaxing! It was like having the resort to ourselves!

Nowhere on their website or booking information does it state that local residents are not allowed to rent rooms. If that is truly their policy, it should be clearly disclosed before someone takes the time to book or show up expecting to stay. The front desk employee was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional while explaining this supposed policy. Instead of handling the situation politely or offering any kind of reasonable explanation, I was treated like I had done something wrong simply for living in the area. As a paying customer, being turned away simply because of where I live was frustrating, embarrassing, and completely unacceptable. Policies like this should be clearly stated up front instead of surprising guests at the front desk after they've already made plans. Because of this experience, I will never rent a room from a Best Western again--even when I'm traveling on the road. Customer service and transparency clearly aren't a priority here.

I'd chosen the Trop because of its Caesar's Resorts affiliation- I've previously stayed at Caesar's Palace, Paris, the Flamingo¹ and was reasonably confident that the Trop would suitably reward my good faith. ¹ I stayed at the Flamingo Hilton, where Elvis Presley once pioneered the entire "artist in residency" format, in the summer of 1994. Bill Clinton sat in the Oval, prior to staining Monica's blue dress; gas was $1.21/g and our rooms cost only $21/night. As it turns out, my faith was repeatedly challenged throughout this getaway weekender that was more "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" mini-vacay turned amok than "Roman Holiday." Lemme, your disheveled but faithful correspondent, recount the ways our expectations were steadily torpedoed: Musical rooms - We changed our room three times in the first 18 hours! We pivoted from room #1 because it lacked the in-suite fridge that this diabetic requires (and had pre-paid for on Expedia). Room #2 was just fine...'til I discovered an awful flood on the bathroom and carpeted hall floors due to... Nasty Plumbing - The toilet scarcely, lazily flushed mere deposits of the watery variety and the bathroom sink failed to drain. Until 1am, when I sleepily traipsed to the bathroom then nearly slipped and fell on the floor, deluged with black, stinky effluence that had apparently disgorged itself from the pipes underneath the sink! Vending Machines from Hell - Several vending machines, ranging from ICE VENDING MACHINES to soda dispensers and even one proudly peddling the Cake Boss Buddy Valastro's famous cakes were all marked with glum "Out of Order" signs. Tight w/ Blankets - The hotel withholds blankets. The beds are dressed with nothing but sheets and a very thin comforter. We hadta request two extra blankets from the housekeeping staff. Not all of our stay was an abject failure. -On-site restaurants include Guy Fieri's "Burro Borracho," (Nacho Average Taco Joint, the poster proclaims) the Brew Brothers and Carnegie's where we enjoyed a "Buy One Full Price, Get 2nd for $1" special on dinner. -The plantation shutters are a nice, whimsical touch in a chain whose rooms lurch from contemporary furniture (good!) to hideous popcorned ceilings ("Three's Company" demands it's set back!) Pro Tip- We did not realize til our arrival that the Tropicana actually is perched ACROSS (CASINO DRIVE) from the Colorado River- Most of its competitor venues like Riverside, Edgewater, Aquarius directly abut the mighty river. AVAIL YOURSELF of the oft-running River Taxi to use the private beach at sister property Harrah's Laughlin Resort! Assistant Hotel Manager Sache "Renae" Mark's deserves plaudits for resolving our complaint to our satisfaction. Renae not only graciously stayed a few minutes beyond her appointed shift departure time to help us, but slashed 30% offve our bill as a token of good will for our plumbing fiasco. Renae's nimble problem solving skills not only warmed our hearts but, by the skin on its teeth, boosted my appraisal from two to three stars.

However, times do change, as such, the Tropicana has also changed and not for the good. We were placed on the 23rd floor. The toilet ran super slow, always seemed like it was going to overflow with every flush. Oh the topper, we only had hot water the first night. And this wasn't just our room, it was multiple rooms and multiple people that we spoke with. My thoughts, "Really, with all of the gambling monies, you can't prepare for this emergencies and invest in better equipment." Secondly, the hostess' that walk around while your gambling were absolutely no where to be found. In the days we were there, my wife had only one bring her a drink and her she had to flag down. I, myself, never had anyone walk up to me. And with the amount of children running around, and minors sitting in slot machine chairs, I told my wife "this has become the Circus Circuis of Laughlin." My suggestion, if your an adult or adult couple who want to spend adult time at a good casino, then you may want to try out Harra's.

Renting a boat online is quick and easy, and they occasionally offer discount codes, which is a nice bonus. The staff is always pleasant, helpful, and genuinely seems to enjoy their work, which makes the whole process even better. We usually rent a patio boat since it comfortably holds up to 10 people. They're easy to drive, great on gas mileage, and the fuel cost has never been unreasonable. (I'd recommend skipping the prepaid fuel option--it usually works out cheaper that way.) Another perk is that dogs are allowed on the patio boats! Just note that medium and large dogs count toward the passenger total, so it's a good idea to double-check when making your reservation. Two things to keep in mind: (1) During the fall season, all boat rentals need to be returned by 3:00 PM. (2) It costs $25 to get into the park. If you're planning on coming 2 or more times within a year, I'd recommend getting the Park Pass for $45. Overall, Katherine's Landing is a reliable and fun spot for boat rentals, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great day out on the lake!
