My wife and stopped here on our Journey across the country in late May. We have been to Kingman, AZ once before and really like this town. The last time we were here the visitors center was closed when we visited. This time traveling through the area, we first stopped at Rickety Cricket for lunch because we love that place and then proceeded to the visitors center to check it out. The parking lot was pretty full but we drove through to the back where we saw tour bus parking. There were no buses, so, we were able to park our truck and cargo trailer relatively easy. We learned a lot about the town and surrounding area. Kingman is known as The Heart of Historic Route 66 because the longest remaining preserved stretch of the famous all-American road, Route 66, runs through downtown. The Kingman Visitor Center offers free travel information for Arizona attractions and operates an all-American-made gift shop, focusing on products from the Southwest. It is located in the Historic Powerhouse, which provided electrical power to Kingman and area mines between 1909 and 1938. The Powerhouse is also home to the Arizona Route 66 Museum, Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum, and Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona Gift Shop. At one end of the parking lot, you can drive your car into a large route 66 sign and take a picture. Overall, this was a really cool stop which we think everyone should check out at least once.

It's a nice little building. There is a Tesla charging station outside. A gift shop downstairs. The main store also downstairs, the owner not very welcoming however. I felt like we were just being watched the whole time we were there. Really cool Route 66 train upstairs. There is also a museum, didn't go in, but it is a $10 charge for those interested. Restrooms are avaliable.

This visitor center has a pretty cool museum in it, definitely stop by here if you get a chance. If you have the Arizona Route 66 passport and you have everything stamped you can come in here and get your certificate. The gift shop has some great Route 66 items. This place is cash only.

It was a fun stop along Route 66 through Kingman. There is plenty of parking, flush toilets (never pass up a clean potty stop in the desert!), and a gift shop. The best part is driving your car through the giant Route 66 sign for a photo-fun!

This is one of the best visitor centers I have ever stopped at. I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area. Clean bathrooms, a route 66 museum, cold drinks and a great "drive-through" route-66 sign in the parking lot. Oh and it's PET FRIENDLY!! I wish they were all like this!

There is such a rich history of Route 66, not be forgotten. The town of Kingman created this simple informative museum to preserve the history and memories. Route 66 was the main auto travel route in 1930-50's taking travelers on a roadway from Chicago, IL to the west coast. The interstate system, built in the 50's, changing everything, as the new highways bypassed these small towns and eateries along the famous Route 66. A bygone era to be appreciated and remembered. NOTE: CASH ONLY! $4 per adult, $3 seniors, children 12 & under free

The Kingman Visitor Center was an unexpected surprise. Driving along interstate Route 40, I stopped in Kingman for a breather, a drink and maybe something little to eat. The visitor center looked like just the kind of place I was looking for. I turns out that it was more than just a rest stop. Yes, on the first floor they have some cold drinks, snacks and a very helpful staff. Everything you might want to know about Kingman, the staff has the answer. Did you know Clark Gable got married in Kingman. Pamela Anderson got arrested for overexposure and Andy Devine, who grew-up in Kingman. All that aside, the Kingman Visitor Center also has a museum on the second floor. The museum opened in 2001 and is operated by the Kingman Historical Society. Through murals, photos and life-size dioramas, the history of the Mother road, Route 66 is told. First used by Native Americans as a trade route it then became the route used by the U.S. Army led survey expeditions. Settlers moved west over the nations first federally funded Wagon Road. Later it became a major route during the Dust Bowl and later the road from Chicago to Santa Monica called the Legendary Route 66. The museum is a real deal at $4 for adults, $3 seniors and free to anyone under 12 years old accompanied by a paying adult. There is a great film about Route 66 and the bathrooms are clean. Since 2014 they feature a 3,600 square foot Electric Vehicle Museum which traces the evolution of the electric vehicle from the 19th century to the 21rst century.

A must stop in the downtown area lots of local info plus restrooms. If you have time take the tour of the museum it's a few bucks but worth it. From here you can walk to a lot of the historic downtown attractions

Lot s of old cars from the past. And they were electric vehicles back then. So why didn't the past move forward with the future in electric vehicles? Perhaps the greed of the oil industry brought that to a screeching halt in that era. Inside are maps, brochures showing old route 66. Hot sauces which I bought that are cheaper here then in Lake Havasu. Kick your Ass hot, Ghost Peppers and Fire from hell sauces. They're hot, but I can still tangle with them in my chili. We got to tour the place for pretty much free, since it was near the end of the day. And the little ol' lady upstairs dressed in ol' fashioned garb is actually watching surveilance cameras in case ya get sticky fingers. The Kingman vistor Center is certainly a nice place to visit and also across the highway is an old train. I don't know if the two are associated with each other, but it was worth while checking these places out.

This is a fun place to visit while traveling Route 66. If you want to see many fun historic items this is the place!

I like the Powerhouse..........especially the fact that Kingman though enough of that place to restore it from a derelict shell.

Visited the Arizona Route 66 museum/visitor center in Kingman on our way to The Town of Oatman, AZ…read more The visitor center is on the 1st floor and offers a nice size gift shop with so many cool souvenirs. They also have nice clean bathrooms. The 2nd floor is the entrance to the Museum. The Museum was very informative about the history of Route 66 and Kingman. We also got to tour the electric vehicle museum. Admission was only $10 for adults. Unfortunately the day we went The Bonelli house was not open which is included in that price. It's a self tour and they also have an hour long movie about Route 66 and the boom and bust that happened. After visiting the shop and touring the museum we had a little picnic lunch outside before continuing our road trip. They had some clean picnic tables under an awning with some shade so we were able to enjoy our lunch outside instead of in our car which was nice! Great place to stop and take a break while visiting Arizona.

From trade route, to train route, to State Route 66 [Kingman AZ]…read more The Arizona Route 66 Museum is located on the 2nd floor of the Powerhouse. As we were leaving we didn't immediately notice that the museum was just above the Visitor Center. We went back inside LoL! General admission is $10/person but if you're a senior (60+) it's $6. The ticket can be used as a bookmark to remember your visit to Kingman AZ. The $10 ticket is good to see 3 places: The Mojave Museum (unfortunately was closed at the time), 'The Powerhouse' Route 66 Museum including the Historic Electric Vehicle Exhibit and The Bonelli House. Arizona Route 66 Museum ~ To summarize, the museum depicts the historical evolution of travel along the 35th parallel that became Route 66. We viewed vintage artifacts, dioramas, murals, photographs, and more that took us on a journey from a pre-Route 66 America to the present and, well, everything in between. Informative museum! Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum ~ Why is there a Tesla in here?? Well, I did not know that they made Tesla's then. There is a 2008 Tesla Roadster "The Simo" on the exhibit floor. Elon Musk launched a Roadster into space carried by a Falcon Heavy rocket in a test flight on February 6, 2018. Route 66 Drive-Thru Shield ~ We drove through this roadside attraction that allowed cars to drive a loop and go under and through the classic Route 66 shield. Pretty cool! Review #3696
