This place was great super delicious. We were visiting from Cali when we ran into this cute little spot, the food was everything and the service super friendly. Our table of 6 enjoyed everything no complaints, this spot looks like all the locals come here, which is a good thing. I got the biscuits and gravy and it was a large portion, came with eggs and potatoes and it was really good I was totally impressed, I also tried the french toast my niece got and it was also delicious, everything looks on point and I'm glad we came here. Stumbled upon Shelly's as we were looking for a breakfast/brunch open with indoor dining during COVID. Boy, what a find! The coffee was excellent and the breakfast was even better. Good breakfast! The restaurant may not look like much at first glance, but looks are deceiving in a good way at Shelly's. The service was great. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs--the sauce was definitely the best part. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, which she said was tasty except for the fact that she was expecting a spicier sausage instead of a sweeter one. My daughter loved her French toast. Bad service. We have gone a few times and literally have to wave down someone to let them know we were ready and sometimes they ignore us. The dishes and building are dirty. The staff seem always stressed out and talks smack about each other and customers. People look miserable, both customers and staff. The food is a hit or miss. I came here with a friend for breakfast and was not impressed. The place is small and we waiting for a while to be seated. This made me hopeful, but it seems this place has its "regulars" and this is the reason for the wait. The coffee cup I got had lipstick on it which was gross. It looked like it was stained on but still gross. Portions are big, but bland in my opinion. The only good item was the fresh biscuits and the fresh local jam. We went a little south of our regular haunts and happened upon this gem of a diner. There were about 6-7 people waiting when we walked in at noon on Saturday which was troublesome to my starving stomach, but the friendly staff cleared tables quickly and we were seated within 5 minutes of walking in. The menu is HUGE and there is definitely something for everyone. I started with a coffee that was kept topped off by our server at all times. Next came the breakfast monte cristo. All I can say is mmmm! The thing was almost too big to bite through with layers of crispy french toast, ham, and cheese and a delicious jam spread. Even the home fries were legit. Anyway, my hubby and I dropped our daughter off at the airport and after decided to find a good breakfast spot to kill time to wait for IKEA to open. This place seemed legit and so we drove there. Walked in sat down noticed it was not busy, it was pretty cold in there, and just didn't have a "restaurant vibe" boxes stacked on walls in " bar" area and just seemed kinda off. Our waitress was a little off as well. We were gonna leave but said screw it and stayed. Well bad choice...Ordered food and started eating, I ordered French toast, eggs, bacon. I went to put the syrup on my French toast and then as I was about to take a bite I noticed something. It was a baby COCKROACH!!! I immediately got sick to my stomach and called the lady over and showed her and she said "oh man I'm sorry" took it away and came back after talking to the cook and other waitresses and said, "we will talk to the owner and we think it's from the business next door, (a Mexican restaurant) as when they have the people spray for bugs etc. a few times a year it send them our way. It's happened before" ummm what??? So you are blaming the business next door? I noticed the floors and kitchen looked dirty and grimy. I was disgusted and lost my appetite for the rest of the day. We came here after picking someone up at the airport early in the morning and it was FANTASTIC! We're all vegetarians, so I LOVED that they had vegan biscuits and gravy, and veggie meat! So many options for us! The hashbrowns were REALLY good, just the right amount of crispy. My omelet was very tasty, and the coffee was pretty darn good for drip coffee. Holy Moley! Make sure you bring your appetite. The portions are quite generous. The food was good. My husband liked that it had the flavor of a " home cooked" Meal. However, while it wasn't bad, it was nothing that screamed extraordinary. He ordered the Baja omelette. I ordered the Greek omelette, and my son ordered the hamburger. My Greek omelette was good but was super hot ( I burned the roof of my palate). It has spinach, feta cheese, red onions and bacon. The funny thing is that half the omelette had the spinach while the other half had the rest of the stuff. Plenty of feta cheese though, which is a winner for me. We came starving, having travelled since early hours in the morning. Really close to Tacoma airport in Washington. The cherry on top? The server and waitress were quite nice and prompt. My hands were super dry from the weather and they gave me a little empty container and allowed me to take a bit of their hand lotion in the bathroom. Life saver since we still had hours to drive to Vancouver before I could unpack my own. One star for food portion. Another star for nice service. First time here and was disappointed to say the least. When we first arrived there was a little bit of a wait. We we offered by one lady to sit at the bar and we declined. Then a group of three was seated before us and then we were told by another man that he could seat us at the bar. We said we already told the lady that we didn't want to sit at the bar. Then he took another group of three that came after us and made us wait another 10 minutes. And then the service and excuses continued. Couldn't close the door to outside since people were sitting out there so it was breezy and cold. Another couple asked to be reseated because of the cold and left when they didn't take the next table for them. Overall the service was just disorganized and they need to work on that. There is no such thing as below average or bad diner food. Diner food is what it is... American Cuisine. If you want 5 star food, you shouldn't be eating at a diner in the first place. However there are places that have better than average diner food and this is one of them. When we came we had what can only be described as the BEST Monte Cristo sandwich I have ever had. If you have never had a Monte Cristo sandwich this is the place to try it first. It is everything you love about breakfast food rolled into a perfect plate. The service is also above average. Shelly herself will most likely pop by your table at least once. She is very pleasant and definitely takes care of her regulars. Service time depends on the time of day. During peak hours it does take a while to get your food. However our first visit had us in and out within 45 minutes. We've only been in twice but I am looking forward to coming back and trying some other food on the menu. To me this place represents old fashion american cuisine best. For a Diner its a 5 out of 5. This was by far the worst meal we've ever had. My dad has a pepper allergy and we warned them ahead of ordering he gets a turkey dinner and it's got nothing but pepper on it the food that the rest of the family was taken aback. My wife and I had lunch here today and we were both impressed. Shelley's is what a diner should be: warm, comfortable, and familiar. I had the burger dip with fries. The beef was rich and flavorful and the French roll was nice and crunchy. My wife had the beef stew. I tried some of it and can confirm that it's the real star of our lunch. The meat was hearty and plentiful and there were lots of vegetables. It tasted like something made on site from scratch, not heated up from a can. Cute place! I came here with a friend and since it's fairly new in the Normandy park area, we thought we give it a try. The staff working the morning we came in were nice, sweet, and super attentive. My friend and I like to take our time eating and conversing and not once did they rush us; though I'm sure they were ready for us to leave haha. I ordered the classic Benedict and my friend had the twice as good i think? Half biscuit and half Benedict. The sauces on both dishes were amazing! Sooooo good!! This restaurant joined the breakfast club of burien/normandy park. It's a cute diner with superb service! They have a waitress who is so accommodating and friendly. I didn't catch her name but she's as sweet as sugar! The food is well seasoned, they have a variety of entrees to choose from, and the portions are big enough to last you for 3 days. The biscuits are the best thing to touch your mouth. Definitely will be my number one go to for breakfast! read more

I'm giving a two star for reasons. List in no order of importance. Only Bud Light on tap. Only well drinks. Patio closed without reason. Seated at a dirty table. Host seated us in the bar. Ordered scrambled eggs, got heavily fried. Chicken fried steak was soggy. English muffin was served as crunchy as a crouton. I'm not a fan of ordering food and having the delivery become a guessing game. There are ways for servers to indicate who ordered what meals. I know you just opened up, but Shelly you came from another place with great reputation for food and service. As an owner it would be nice if you had you come by the table and say hi. It wasn't busy at 1pm. There were 5 tables including ours. My friend and I got breakfast at Shelly's before catching a flight at SEATAC. It's quite close to the airport, so very convenient to grab brunch before taking off. We were seated promptly, and the service was great even though we were in the back - my coffee was refilled quickly, as was my water which is always a plus :) I ordered the Veggie Twice as Nice (1/2 vegan biscuits and gravy, 1/2 eggs florentine) with crispy fried potatoes. The potatoes were SO good - perfectly seasoned, crisp, delicious. My eggs florentine was perfect, the hollandaise was rich and creamy and the egg was cooked perfectly. But the star of the show was the biscuits and gravy - I want to learn how to make that gravy! It was delicious, rich, and reminded me of the country gravy I used to eat before I was a vegetarian! My friend got the steak and eggs, which he was very happy with. His eggs were cooked perfectly, and he said his steak was really good too! read more

Slow service even though it wasn't busy. Ordered a breakfast about a quarter 'til 11. I asked for a side of hash browns. The server replied rather snarkily, "it comes with hash browns." When it finally arrived it came with dried out house potatoes. Not wanting to be there until nightfall, I didn't bother sending it back. We have driven by Shelly's more that a few times. On a beautiful Sunday my son Kyle and decided to try it out. We were seated, and to our surprise, this is "Shelly", Kyle's buddy's mom who up until recently was associated with a great breakfast and lunch joint on Ambaum. 'Nuf said? We were delighted to see that the menu is large and varied. But the best thing is that it is MUCH more reasonably priced. Food quality was delightfully what we expected.
