although i'm not a resident of burien, i sometimes aspire to be! i'm down there with regularity, grocery shopping, eating at various places on 152nd and enjoying parks and other things like the recent world cup watch parties. i'd noticed nelle's when i was parking nearby recently and made a mental note to give it a try. well this morning was the day, with a coworker and friend, and by the time we'd finished our breakfast sandwiches and beverages and were wrapping up our non-rushed conversation around lunchtime, many tables were occupied by people who were working their way through what looked like amazing salads that made me want to return to try one out. in terms of what i ordered (bacon sandwich and iced chai,) both were good. i know some people's reviews had been critical of the bread to sandwich ingredient ratio but i did not see that problem in what came out of the kitchen and i had in my hands. the flavor was good and it was filling. the decor is both thoughtful and adorable, not to mention the cute red patterned wallpaper which i especially took note of in the bathroom. service was friendly when ordering; you bus your own table after pick up your items from the back part of the shop. things were clean and well cared for as well. if the amount of people inside on a weekday late morning/lunchtime, is any indication, nelle's hits the sweet spot of being a place to come to do work, relax, converse and be fed. i really enjoyed it and would come back the next time i'm in burien, but i think i'll strategically aim for after 11am when the lunch menu is live so that i can choose from one of those incredible salads i saw on adjacent tables. read more

Ok listen up Burien, Des Moines, Seatac, Tukwila, and all points in between. If you are looking for coffee and breakfast or a quick lunch, a sip and a bite after work or just grab and go, you have to try Nelle's in Burien. Only open two months now, Nelle's is the kind of place you wish other places were. '50's diner meets '60's retro-chic with a few brush strokes of Italian stylings. The choices of ambiance is extremely pleasing to one's aesthetic POV. Even if the theme isn't quite your thing, you'll appreciate its thoughtfulness and serene color palette as well as the mix of themes all working together harmoniously. This first time in we had the bagels with lox, cucumber, capers, and dill. The coffees came in large cups with saucers. Nelle's sources from Backyard Bagels and Macrina's bakery. The execution of the bagels was flawless. They have small beepers to let you know when to pick up your food at the window in the back. Don't be surprised if Nelle herself is the one to hand it to you. One greeting over the door says "stay all day" and this is the type of environment which will invite you to do just that. I anticipate this spot doing very well. It really fits the 152nd vibe in the heart of Burien's cultural scene. One last thing I learned. Cute ambience with unfortunately subpar food and service - and I don't want to pay for just ambience. Ordered burger and fries at $19. Burger was flavorless and juicy - yep you read that right. The French fries tasted like they were reheated in my toaster oven at home. I am not joking. They were AWFUL. I couldn't tell if they were old because it was the end of the day but I couldn't get halfway through them. When we walked in, there were two other people eating at the counter. We waited several minutes until the person behind the counter acknowledged us even though she was just shooting the shit with the customers. We were standing 5 feet away from her. Sat down to eat and had to wipe down the table. Counter lady noticed but didn't apologize or offer to do it herself. You then grab your own food which would normally be fine but this was the cherry on top of our sad service. They have a 5% surcharge on top of the cost to help pay for wages and operating costs. It's crazy that restaurants don't incorporate this into their pricing structure so that customers aren't blind-sided if they don't read the menu or don't want to do the math. I was hoping the new location would be a reset on service and food from their old TTP Store but it's a cut and paste. Cute ambience but poor service and food - particularly for the price. read more

Can you make this clear You guys, this is absolutely amazing. I'm so happy and excited to be able to finally have tried this place in the heart of Burien. Me and my coworker went up there and decided that we are going to get some delicious new food and try it out and check out the joint and we were mouse dropped amazed. I was so excited to see the food options that were coming out from the back cute little room that says 'pick up here'. I got to the lady who was taking our order and was able to make a decision and land on the whiskey, bacon sandwich, even though it was lunchtime I really wanted to try the breakfast and then I ended up getting a hazelnut latte and it was the creamiest smoothest tastes, no kickback no bitter tasting coffee, but I've tasted in a really long time. I will say I got a lot of people telling me that and I was just no under the impression that they may haven't had any good coffee lately, but I was wrong, I'll admit that no problem, you have to try the coffee.!!!! Then I sunk my teeth right into the most delicious breaky Sammie, and I was not even surprised. I knew this place was going to be the best. The tastiest the most delicious food that I search and hunt for!!! These salads ladies are looking very tasty- dare you come check this place out! I was very much so a fan! As in sipping on this coffee writing this review, ie realized I do drinks with more than two questions, black, cream and sugar, and then I tried their non bitter, and tasty coffee - wow It's super booming and I know their new so I'm wait a bit more before I return - but allll I can think about is how tasty more of the food is! Updating my review to say I wasn't expecting a prompt response from the owner however they fixed the issues ASAP and comped me a nice meal. Although I didn't get the same sandwich I chose to try the strawberry goat cheese salad which was great. I'll definitely be coming back. Thank you Nelle! read more

I came here on a Saturday morning- a little bit after they opened- was not busy. It is such a cute coffee shop tucked in Burien. The outside decoration is inviting and once you enter, it's beautifully decorated. We ordered a couple sandwich's and both were delicious- the bread was nice and soft, it didn't feel too heavy. With high expectations, I came to have the Turkey Club that was highlighted in some advertisements featuring this business. It seems to be popular at lunch, and we just got the last table. The atmosphere is like an ice cream parlor and candy store that serves salads and sandwiches along with both draft beer and hard cider. It's a bit confusing, but I knew a sandwich was what I wanted. I went to the counter to order the Turkey Club, and my wife wanted the Turkey Brie, but they were out of turkey--so the alternative was ham. I ordered the Ham + Brie for my wife, and I ordered the Italian. We got some water from the self-serve water station, but it ended up tasting like tap water. Our buzzer went off, and somehow my order turned into yet another Ham + Brie. So now I was on my wife's choice, which I didn't remember making, but I just decided to enjoy the moment. In reality, the Ham + Brie should be called "Toast with a load of fig jam, no brie + ham." My mouth is still tasting the sweet jam; the ham was good - couldn't remember the brie, but I just only could taste the jam. Overall, I thought the atmosphere was a bit too much like being in a Molly Moon's. They didn't have turkey, and they (or maybe I) misordered the wrong sandwich. Absolutely the best spot in Burien & we needed something like this to add the beauty to Burien! The food is truly SO good. The lines have been out the door since opening, and for good reason. They had over 130 people at the ribbon cutting and that was such a special moment for the community of Burien! If you're anywhere nearby, or even stopping by before your flight, you have to check out Nelle's! You will not be disappointed! It's the kind of place you come to and end up staying for hours whether you're meeting a friend, working, or just soaking it all in. Nelle has poured her entire heart into creating this space, and you can feel that the moment you walk in. Every detail feels intentional, warm, and welcoming. The food is incredible, they even have some great gluten free options plus the atmosphere is something so special, and it's already becoming such a meaningful part of the community. We went to Nelle's in the afternoon about a week ago and ordered coffee drinks. There were several people behind us waiting to order and a few people had ordered before us. There was only one person working and she was extremely slow. Then the owner came out of the kitchen, got herself a drink, sat down at the bar and started working on her computer -- completely ignoring the huge backup. We waited over 20 minutes and the barista still hadn't even started our drinks so we left, walked over to Grand Central Bakery and were served within 60 seconds.
