Monte Cristo Deliciousness
Julia M.

Updating my review to 5 stars Shelly's food is delicious. I'd rather take it to go though. Called in an order for Monte Cristo breakfast with crispy hash browns. It was out of this world. with the delicious jam MMmmm..... my pickup was ready when i arrived only 11 minutes after I called it in.

Breakfast Monte Cristo

We came here right before we had to get on a plane to fly home, there weren't too many people eating there so no wait. I was intrigued by the breakfast monte cristo. I wanted a big meal because I didn't want to buy airport food and that is definitely what I got - large portions! I wasn't a huge fan of the sandwich, I don't think the cheese was a good combo. I actually really wish I hadn't gotten cheese at all lol, but without the cheese I just knowwww it would've been good. I loved the jam it came with. My girlfriend had a pancake breakfast and it was humongous ! She wasn't a fan of the potatoes, I really liked the hash browns :) they were nice and crunchy!

Good hash browns, great jam

The hash browns were good, the waitress was sweet. The jam was the star of the show. The pancake was chewy, the meat was low quality. There was a roach that popped out of the napkin dispenser, it ruined the entire experience. Our AirBnB host recommended this place, I really wanted it to be good, but unfortunately, it wasn't anything to write home about, I'm sorry Shelly...

Hangtown Fry with home fries
Morgan R.

A hometown diner, a small business -- glad to see an outfit like this in operation, and want to support them by giving them business. I went for breakfast on a Saturday morning - I started with Earl Grey tea (good, a full pot of tea using a Stash tea-bag, for only $2). My breakfast was a Hangtown Fry, and I'd driven down from Seattle, jut to try it. It came with a choice of toast (I went for the generous biscuit), and home fries (new potatoes, cut in pieces and cooked with salt, garlic and some other flavor-enhancing ingredients. The food came out promptly - the biscuit was far too big to finish, but it was fresh and good. It came with two tiny containers (one jam, one butter), neither of which were sufficient in quantity to properly cover the biscuit, so I sliced it in half, and used them on half. I'm sure I could have asked for more, but I didn't. Hangtown fry is one of my favorite breakfast dishes of all time -- I used to get it at Chinooks in Seattle's Fisherman's terminal, long after it was no longer on the menu -- but since the pandemic, they're not doing breakfast anymore (with a few rare exceptions). In any case, they set a high standard for the dish. Shelly's hangtown fry was more of a scramble than a traditional hang town fry, but it had all the right ingredients - scrambled eggs, spinach, oysters, onion, bacon. The eggs, bacon, and onions were all good. The oysters were OK, but would have benefited from separate pan frying in very light batter before being integrated into the dish. So, not as good as Chinook's used to make, but fairly decent. The home-fried new potatoes were oddly seasoned -- while they looked great (the way I usually like them), I wasn't a fan of the seasoning (I love garlic, salt and pepper, but there was something else there that threw the flavor off a bit). The restaurant itself was in a strip mall, and had booths and tables right out of the 1950s. The staff was friendly and helpful, though much like a traditional diner, there was nothing fancy about the decor or the service (the woman who waited on my table delivered food while talking to someone on the phone, then made a comment to the cook about a joke the caller had told her. So all-in-all, Shelly's was a good little joint, but I'm not sure I'll be making the trip back anytime soon. In other words, a good breakfast place for locals, not a place I would make a special trip for again. One minor annoyance - a charge for "non cash adjustment", or in other words, a credit card fee. I understand that card processors charge for their service, but at this point, I don't carry/spend cash anymore, and don't appreciate such fees. Better to adjust the prices, than nickel and dime customers with fees.

Irish Coffee and Bloody Mary
Michelle R.

The good parts: it was busy when we arrived on a late Saturday morning, usually a good sign. I ordered an Irish Coffee. They may have been short staffed - it took a good while. My Irish Coffee did pack a good punch - always good for this one-drink-buzz girl. Portions were also quite large. My omelette was quite big, stuffed with spinach and bacon. A good portion of potatoes were served with your meal. Not-so-good parts: service took awhile - they may have been short staffed. The Bloody Mary wasn't flavorful, just tomato-y. The food was okay for us, not great. Hubs ordered Chicken Fried Steak, but it wasn't his favorite. Ambiance was diner-ish. No music. Kinda felt packed in. Staff not friendly, not unfriendly, just doing their jobs. Still looking for a great breakfast spot near us!

Banana Foster French Toast Special and Fair Burger

Cute lil divey spot. Don't be surprised if there's a wait, they get packed fast! Love coming here regardless. Banana Foster French toast!! Just get it, trust me. Bloody Mary's are also a hit and did I mention only $5?

Unfortunately we did not like our breakfast. Customer was ok, she was very nice but would spill coffee in our water every time she poured it. Grits were perfect! My husband ended up getting sick after eating the Benedict and he has a pretty strong stomach. We had to head home right after because he got sick from his food. My scramble wasn't good. My French toast was like the worse pieces of bread you could use. If you aren't picky you would probably won't mind the food maybe. I don't need it to be perfect but the cold coffee was what really ruined it for me. Refills were even cold.

Biscuit

Feels like home! The food portions are large and very good. I enjoyed the biscuit! Service is relaxed but not in a bad way! You just feel comfortable. Can't explain it. The field of the restaurant is more of a classic diner. I liked it, I can see this becoming a regulars spot if I lived here.

Egg salad sandwich opened up with VERY heavy mayo
Siscily E.

First time in trying to check out local Mom & Pop gems. Dept. of Health rated Shelly's GOOD currently posted at the entrance. Not a deal breaker, does raise my hesitation flag for trying. Place was dead Thursday morning at 1130am. Service was warm and quick. Ordered the egg salad sandwich with potato salad & Hong Kong chicken salad supposed to be with mandarin oranges . Egg salad advertised on white bread, served dry wheat bread almost cardboard like. Sandwich was SUPER heavy on mayo, egg salad pretty bland and did not eat. Potato salad with red potatoes is my favorite. Shelly's potato salad is VERY rustic with huge chunks of potatoes and eggs not diced up, kinda felt like the chef didn't really care to cut up & stir ingredients. The smaller cut up parts were tasty! Hong Kong salad is HUGE portion, did not get mandarins but did have cut up oranges, chicken bits really dry. Overall disappointed with experience and would not recommend or order these items again. Saw other reviews their breakfasts are very good may come back to try breakfast.

Pancakes also came with eggs and three huge pieces of bacon that managed to be both thick and crispy - delicious. Service was super fast and friendly. We will certainly be back!

You will need to find street parking but it's not too difficult. The name gives you the clue - it's "classic" in a retro, elevated biker bar way (there is a bar in the front and there was a biker out front as well so I'm sticking with this description). On the walls are "classics" like Harley Davidson and Elvis Presley. Among the other things that we did not know (which was everything) - it's New Orleans Cajun-based food. There are some non-New Orleans Cajun items on the menu - traditional breakfast French Toast and such - however, many of the items, from the omelets to the chicken ARE with a very tasty and not-too-spicy Cajun flavor or sauce. My husband had the omelet that featured andouille sausage and was very glad he did. I tried the Cajun chicken tenders (?) that came LOADED, on top of delicious homestyle biscuits, and next to a pile of cheesy potatoes. Service was perfect. Very friendly from walking in the door to walking out the door. Very diverse clientele so you can rest assured you will like it here. Not sure if I am spelling our server's name correctly, Romie was a delight and offered kindness and patience for us. On to the food! I cannot decide if we should get the jambalaya and split or the new menu item, which is the cilantro shrimp. I am a fan of both. I will definitely have to return to try the jambalaya, but this evening we decided to go with the cilantro shrimp. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The cilantro cream sauce paired greatly with the pasta. The sauce was not over creamy, but it was a little bit on the oily/buttery side and the sauce itself could use a little bit of salt and pepper. The waffle was on of the best we have been able to locate and the bacon, which I forgot to snap a pic of because we gobble it down before I realized. LOL!!! The beignets were cooked very well, I love the puff pastry that they use because it wasn't overly sweet and they weren't too greasy. Am I opinion overall this is a decent affordable restaurant to enjoy a meal with a friend a loved one and even a family member. The restaurant is not on the larger scale, so my recommendations would be no more than 4 to 6 people in your party if you plan to eat here. It's also very chill and the atmosphere was relaxing in case you're looking for a place with a little bit more intimacy. As always safe, hungry and happy out there! Be someone's best day. That's the way it is. We hoped this would be our new holiday go-to. We loved the idea of a week-long menu during holidays. We took advantage of the Irish St. Patrick's Day menu, and we were excited to go back for the Easter menu. The Easter menu was also shown on their website as being a week long - so that's three more days from the day we went. When we got there, we spent a few minutes being discombobulated because we couldn't find any of the Easter menu items besides the pancakes (photo) and the drinks menu. In addition, the staff was being a big cagey about it. The menu was still featured on the website but turns out, we were eventually told, that they ran out of the ingredients for most of the items (which would be ham and pork, I guess) and the menu was shut down except for the drinks and the pancakes (nobody mentioned the pancakes and they weren't named in an Eastery way). So, folks, if you offer a week-long menu for one of the biggest holidays of the year, please get enough inventory. We know times are tough, but you did decide to do this and presumably know better after being open since 1979. Please take the holiday menu down from your website if it's not applicable anymore. Please put "subject to availability" on your flyer online if it's possible you will run out of inventory. Please be forthcoming and cheerful and apologetic that you don't have the holiday menu anymore, not defensive. Please tell your entire staff that you aren't serving it anymore. Non-wait staff. Why do you ask us what we want to drink, then tell us we'll have to ask our server? Just bring us water and be done with it. Wait staff. You seem like you enjoy your job, or used to, but are over-worked. That's too bad. We hope things get better. So, this will probably not be our go-to holiday restaurant after all.
