Cute little family restaurant near SeaTac. Great service, huge menu & portions, quality food.

Updating my review to 5 stars Shelly's food is delicious. I'd rather take it to go though. Called in an order for Monte Cristo breakfast with crispy hash browns. It was out of this world. with the delicious jam MMmmm..... my pickup was ready when i arrived only 11 minutes after I called it in.

Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich. Half and half.

Fast friendly service. Great breakfast choices. It's a lovely neighborhood spot. Can't wait to go for lunch!

    Hangtown Fry with home fries
    Morgan R.

A hometown diner, a small business -- glad to see an outfit like this in operation, and want to support them by giving them business. I went for breakfast on a Saturday morning - I started with Earl Grey tea (good, a full pot of tea using a Stash tea-bag, for only $2). My breakfast was a Hangtown Fry, and I'd driven down from Seattle, jut to try it. It came with a choice of toast (I went for the generous biscuit), and home fries (new potatoes, cut in pieces and cooked with salt, garlic and some other flavor-enhancing ingredients. The food came out promptly - the biscuit was far too big to finish, but it was fresh and good. It came with two tiny containers (one jam, one butter), neither of which were sufficient in quantity to properly cover the biscuit, so I sliced it in half, and used them on half. I'm sure I could have asked for more, but I didn't. Hangtown fry is one of my favorite breakfast dishes of all time -- I used to get it at Chinooks in Seattle's Fisherman's terminal, long after it was no longer on the menu -- but since the pandemic, they're not doing breakfast anymore (with a few rare exceptions). In any case, they set a high standard for the dish. Shelly's hangtown fry was more of a scramble than a traditional hang town fry, but it had all the right ingredients - scrambled eggs, spinach, oysters, onion, bacon. The eggs, bacon, and onions were all good. The oysters were OK, but would have benefited from separate pan frying in very light batter before being integrated into the dish. So, not as good as Chinook's used to make, but fairly decent. The home-fried new potatoes were oddly seasoned -- while they looked great (the way I usually like them), I wasn't a fan of the seasoning (I love garlic, salt and pepper, but there was something else there that threw the flavor off a bit). The restaurant itself was in a strip mall, and had booths and tables right out of the 1950s. The staff was friendly and helpful, though much like a traditional diner, there was nothing fancy about the decor or the service (the woman who waited on my table delivered food while talking to someone on the phone, then made a comment to the cook about a joke the caller had told her. So all-in-all, Shelly's was a good little joint, but I'm not sure I'll be making the trip back anytime soon. In other words, a good breakfast place for locals, not a place I would make a special trip for again. One minor annoyance - a charge for "non cash adjustment", or in other words, a credit card fee. I understand that card processors charge for their service, but at this point, I don't carry/spend cash anymore, and don't appreciate such fees. Better to adjust the prices, than nickel and dime customers with fees.

    Irish Coffee and Bloody Mary
    Michelle R.

The good parts: it was busy when we arrived on a late Saturday morning, usually a good sign. I ordered an Irish Coffee. They may have been short staffed - it took a good while. My Irish Coffee did pack a good punch - always good for this one-drink-buzz girl. Portions were also quite large. My omelette was quite big, stuffed with spinach and bacon. A good portion of potatoes were served with your meal. Not-so-good parts: service took awhile - they may have been short staffed. The Bloody Mary wasn't flavorful, just tomato-y. The food was okay for us, not great. Hubs ordered Chicken Fried Steak, but it wasn't his favorite. Ambiance was diner-ish. No music. Kinda felt packed in. Staff not friendly, not unfriendly, just doing their jobs. Still looking for a great breakfast spot near us!

    Breakfast Monte Cristo
    Lindsey L.

We came here right before we had to get on a plane to fly home, there weren't too many people eating there so no wait. I was intrigued by the breakfast monte cristo. I wanted a big meal because I didn't want to buy airport food and that is definitely what I got - large portions! I wasn't a huge fan of the sandwich, I don't think the cheese was a good combo. I actually really wish I hadn't gotten cheese at all lol, but without the cheese I just knowwww it would've been good. I loved the jam it came with. My girlfriend had a pancake breakfast and it was humongous ! She wasn't a fan of the potatoes, I really liked the hash browns :) they were nice and crunchy!

    Good hash browns, great jam

After 7 nights of cruise food, we were ready to try something new and local. Sharp's was only 5 minutes from our hotel, and highly rated, so I figured we would give it a shot. We arrived at the restaurant to a full parking lot with people standing outside. However, when we went in, the wonderful hostess informed us there was no wait. The seater showed us to our table, and chatted with us about our day along the way. He also explained the 3 menus that he gave us, and informed us we were right in time for happy hour. Our server, Sam, greeted us promptly, and she was so incredibly welcoming to our family, answering questions about the menu items. It was so hard to decide what to order, so we ordered several small plates (Brisket nachos, Wings, Brisket tacos, fries, and mac and cheese, along with the complimentary cornbread). To our surprise, everything came out so quickly. This was probably the fastest service I've ever had at a restaurant. The servers who delivered our food were friendly and welcoming as well. Not only that, EVERYTHING we ate was phenomenal. The fries were flavorful and perfectly salted, the wings were fantastic, and the brisket nachos? Wow....the brisket was some of the best we've ever had, and the nacho chips even stood out. The biggest compliment is from our 15 year old who said that the mac and cheese is some of the best pasta she's ever had. Throughout the whole meal, Sam was so attentive and chatting with us about the restaurant and dessert options. I truly enjoyed everything about our experience. The food and service both were top notch. The only thing I didn't like about this restaurant is that I'll have to book another flight to Seattle from Michigan to eat there. I'll be recommending it to everyone I know though!

Before my flight, I decided to stop at Salty's for breakfast. I'm a sucker for crab, but I wasn't especially hungry, so I ordered a cup of the chowder with crab. It turned out to be one of the best cups of chowder I've ever had--rich, flavorful, and loaded with crab. I sat at the bar, where Joyce took great care of me. Her kindness, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality made an otherwise difficult day a little easier. Great service can make a real difference, and she absolutely delivered. Salty's isn't the cheapest dining option at SEA, but between the quality of the food, the relaxed atmosphere, and the outstanding service, I think it's well worth it. If you're looking for a great meal before your flight, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Rich, loaded with clams, easily the best thing on the table. Fries were also solid. The halibut fish & chips ($46 for three pieces) was the letdown. The fish was over-fried to the point that it fell apart as I ate it -- disappointing for a fish of that quality at that price. Halibut should hold together in firm, flaky pieces; this didn't. But the real issue was the service. What made it impossible to write off as a busy day was that my server was attentive to the table right next to me -- she asked the gentleman beside me how his meal was and refilled his water, while mine sat clearly empty and I was never checked on once. No introduction, no recommendations, no plates cleared. When I asked for something as simple as pepper, I got attitude, like I was putting her out. I typically tip 25%. I left 15% and honestly felt that was generous for what I received. At these prices, the food needs to be executed properly and the service needs to match. The chowder alone isn't enough to carry a $60+ meal. Would I come back? Maybe for a cup of chowder at the bar. Not for the full experience.

I can't recollect a time when I had a bad experience with a fish and chips order, so I was optimistic that we were in for a treat. Less than 15 minutes later, two large plates consisting of four fish planks and a healthy serving of fries were being delivered to our table. Biting into the fries I thought, "these are hot, but taste like nothing." To obtain some form of flavor, I had to douse them in ketchup. Hoping that the same did not apply to the fish, I took a bite of one of the planks...no flavor as well. To give it some form of flavor, I had to saturate it in vinegar and use a healthy serving of tarter sauce. I understand that some restaurants are hesitant to pre-season food due to various preferences and allergies. However, I have never consumed food that tasted like what I would imagine the flavor of paper would be. The customer service was good...but if this was an indication of how their other meals taste, I can't honestly say that I could make a return visit.

My husband and I were visiting the Burien Farmer's Market and decided to stop in for lunch here. The day before our area experienced a heat wave. Apparently this effected this place of business. There were fans going everywhere, no a/c in place; I was hesitant to enter and I should have gone with my instincts. It wasn't awful so that we couldn't stand it, so we stayed. We had a very friendly waitress, wish I could remember her name but she was very good. I ordered a peach tea and my husband ordered a cider, I believe it was pineapple and another fruit based. I ordered the Ahi Taco Wrap and my husband ordered the Luna Fish and Chips. My husband's drink arrived with an apology from another server as she poured the wrong drink for him. He was gracious and took it anyway. Out come our plates. I tasted my husbands fish and found it seriously lacking in flavor; nothing great here. Now let's get to my Ahi wrap; I had serious issues with this. This includes tuna, avocado, cilantro lime coleslaw with chipotle aioli and lime on the side. House made chips and salsa were included. The wrap was hugely disappointing. The ratio of tuna to coleslaw was seriously off. 90 percent of this wrap was coleslaw. The chips weren't fresh and the salsa was just ok, had a sweet type of base, which I don't like in my salsa. The lime included was stale and I couldn't get a drop out of this. The chipotle was so so. The coleslaw had no distinctive cilantro lime flavor. This dish was entirely disappointing and priced at 19.95. Never again. My husband's dish had two pieces of fish and was priced at 18.50. So after the cost of the drinks, the meal was over 60. Shame on us for a few things: 1. For not looking closely at the prices 2. And for most importantly, for simply not grabbing a decently priced hot dog at the farmers market. I'm positive this would have been better and a better deal. We will not be back to this place. The only reason I gave this a one star was for the waitress and the peach tea. Seriously.
