Went for breakfast before Covid told them of a food allergy to onions. I ordered an omelet and made sure to tell them of the allergy again. My omelet came with an onion in it. They apologized I couldn't eat the meal charged me for it but gave me a coupon to come back. No thank you not going there again. I've been coming to Shelly's pretty consistently (almost every weekend) for about a year now and I'll keep coming back. It's my go-to. It's my comfort food. I'm from the south and Shelly's a) actually has grits and b) actually makes them correctly every single time. They also have great coffee and flavored creamers which I love. Their 2 egg breakfast is a great deal and is consistently great. They have a full bar and interesting flavors of milkshakes. Customer service was fantastic. Portions were huge and I believe it was Shelly herself who served us. I witnessed her watch over a table of two children while the father took the baby to the restroom for a change. I live in Florida and visited my son in Seattle last week. He knows I love a good breakfast (he is not really a breakfast person) and suggested a trip to Shelly's. I'm not gonna lie - I'm a food snob. We took a 25 minute car ride to get there and I was hoping it was as good as he said. It was better than expected. We arrived at brunch-ish time so I could get breakfast and he could get lunch. I ordered a scratch-made biscuit and it was as big as my head and served with butter and locally-made strawberry preserves. Delicious. I also had the Sunnydale Scramble. It was a bed of the crispiest home fries topped with scrambled eggs, diced ham, and smothered in (tasted like scratch-made) Hollandaise Sauce. Sooooo good - huge portion - and reasonably priced. (Shelly, you should raise your prices LOL). I also ordered a Bloody Mary and it was one of the best I've ever had. I mentioned that to Shelly and she told me she makes her own mix and does not use pre-made. It is so apparent. If you have never visited Shelly's - you need to go. Although the food here is good, the portions are small and the prices are pretty high. Ham steak and eggs for $12, whereas I can get a larger portion of the same quality at Huckleberry Square for 8 bucks. Also, the few times I've eaten here and asked for extra crispy hash browns they always sent out soggy hash browns, with last time barely any browning at all. I am so glad we tried something new today! Shelly's was a great all around family diner. The menu is great and you can have a bloody mary with your meal. The chicken fried steak was done perfectly and their portions are huge. I would absolutely recommend both the house potatoes and fresh made biscuits for your sides. This will definitely be our go to when we are in the Burien / Normandy Park are. Shelly's is more dirty than I would expect from a four star restaurant. Good variety in menu and nice staff but food was just all right. Biscuits were hard for being "homemade". Saturday 8:30am First time here, been wanting to check out this place for some time now ... Reading all kinds of mix reviews, might as well be my own judge and check it out myself... Yes, the place could use a good cleaning, no I didn't see roaches or bugs, I would have left if I did but then again, I wasn't looking for them either ... service was alright, wasn't that long to get my bacon and eggs, coffee refills took forever, at one point I just got up and got my own refill because she was busy, I felt they could have used another server just for refills and extra help on the floor ... Food was nothing special, could have done it at home for a lot less but wanted to see how the cook was on cooking my eggs and it was alright... Would I come back, I don't think so, maybe if it sold, remodel, new menu, new staff because today wasn't very impressive!!! Hate to say it but IHOP has better service and cooks than this place and IHOP can be a hit or miss depending on which location... Hopefully you find or experience a better visit than what I got, just felt it was a waste of money today ... good luck read more

My friend and I went here because somehow the yelp reviews are good... all I can say is this place is weird! First thing first we walked in and the place looked BUSTED. But I told my friend "honestly most places that look busted have the best food" so we still got seated... when the waitress brought out our water my friends water had a GIANT piece of napkin floating in it... she asked for a new water, and they brought a 2nd water, and there was STILL stuff floating in it. She asked for a new water again and a different guy brought it out "to inspect it in the light" and there wasn't anything IN the water this time but whatever was on his hands (grease maybe?) was dripping all over the glass... the food was decent, not bad, not great. It's very dirty, menus are sticky, and it looked like it had not been swept in there in a year. My friend handed our waitress a $50 bill and asked for our tab because we needed to leave, and for some reason the lady ran outside with our money? I was confused about that... she came back in and gave us change but no bill, so my friend asked kindly for a receipt, and she said "uuuuuuhhhhh sure" and went to the back and started yelling for someone hella loud! Then ran back outside and was yelling at some people out there. At this point me and my friend just left cuz it was so weird. We were walking to our car and our waiter was like "these people want a receipt!" To some lady and the lady responded with "take a picture and send it to them" and we just got in the car and drove off because like I said previously it was SO WEIRD!!! This is an upgrade version of Denny's. Come with an appetite since the servings were very generous. The servers were also very friendly and attentive of our needs and requests. They have a variety of selections for breakfast and they were pretty good. The prices were spot on for the quantity and quality of food you're getting. Took a little while to try this place out but so glad we did. This is becoming our favorite local breakfast spot. We have been here a few times now and looking forward to coming back again. They serve a very good Bloody Mary and the coffee is also good. We have tried several menu items as well as a special and all were very good. One thing we really like is they ask you if you want their house potatoes cooked regular or crispy. Crispy is a very good option. The portions are good sized and the service is very good. read more

Great spot for brunch! They've got $10 giant pint sized mimosas , good bloody Mary's, and they give you whole HEAPS of food; seriously their portions are insane. Great place for breakfast or lunch. Huge menu friendly service. We stopped in on New Year's eve in the morning while traveling in Seattle area. We had a large party so we called ahead and they told us that they could seat us immediately which they did. Their menu is expansive and had something for everyone. Including a full bar if you wanted to have a bloody Mary or a Mamosa. Breakfast and lunch is served all day. And their portions are gigantic so a couple of us shared items. Reasonably priced. Salmon salad: After the fish n chips we poked open the salmon. NOT cooked all the way either. Plus over half of the spinach leaves were bad, not going bad.... bad. Spinach gets slimey as it ages. Three of us had breakfast here the other day, and while a lot of the meals coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic, we weren't really impressed. I think it has a lot to do with the environment which is rundown, out of date, and in general not cared for... example: menus are taped to the tables with packing tape that is in poor condition causing the ink on the menus to bleed when wiped down and making it difficult to read. My husband had the chicken fried steak, our friend had biscuits and gravely, and I had the breakfast Monte Crisco. The meals were Denny's status, meaning there was nothing special about them (and nothing we would return for). It a totally adequate place for a quick meal before/after a flight, but the coffee shop at the airport is probably better. Lastly, I have to say this warning: I was EXTREMELY put off by the ketchup that is served here as it tastes like beer... apparently fermented ketchup is a thing and if you use it as your standard ketchup you should warn your customers so they don't ruin their meals with it. I'm thankful I was cautious and tried it, as it came from an unlabeled bottle, before I poured it all over my breakfast potatoes. With some TLC, a few recipe updates, and fewer employees yelling at one another (and talking bad about phone order customers), this place could be really awesome. read more

I want to give this place a better review because I have been here before and was really impressed with the food. This time however was a real disappointment. You know when you walk into a place and it just feels dirty in every way, and you can't really enjoy your meal even if it's good because everything just feels gross? That's pretty much the experience that we had this time. Tables and booths and chairs are grimy, food was splattered in the walls, salt and pepper shakers and ketchup feel like a toddler was playing with it after eating a banana, and the service was not as warm and friendly as it had been before. Like I said earlier I think the food probably would've tasted better if I didn't feel so disgusting as it was just sitting there, all I could think about was what the kitchen looked like if the outside presentation looked and felt like this. After a super early morning flight, what a great start to Seattle with friendly smiles and good food. It was awkward just standing there for a good bit before being acknowledged at all but service picked up soon after. This placed rocked! Besides the great music selection that was playing while we had a fab breakfast the food was excellent. We found this place close to SEATAC airport and we're very happy we did. I had a breakfast burrito - while they gave me the option of soft or fried and I picked fried. OMG it was awesome and filling. It came with bread (they have a wide selection) and hash browns that were cooked perfectly. The coffee....it was off the charts delish. After complimenting the waitress for such a wonderful experience and meal, we discovered that she owned the place. Shelly's is a must do and I only wish we had a place like this back in Boston. Simply the best damn breakfast/diner I've found in the Seattle area. Is it glamorous? No. Leave that to the hipsters and millennials that feel the need to "v-log" or Instagram their lives.
