My girlfriend and I ended up coming back to Shells as we try to hit this spot once every couple of months. The food is always delicious and very reasonably priced. We decided to come here the night before Valentine's Day, after sunset, and it was well worth it. She got the crabcakes, I got a side salad and a bowl of the clam chowder, which I think is the best chowder in all of St. Pete. She got the shrimp and scallops pasta, while I got the seafood deluxe pasta, and it was out of this world. I had enough to take home for the next night, and we both split the desserts, which we also could only eat half. Our service was amazing, very attentive, and was there when we needed her to be. We cannot wait to go back again in the coming months.

The snow crabs were very disappointing this time. They were unusually small, and the meat was difficult to remove because they didn't seem to be cooked properly. It really took away from the experience since snow crab is usually one of the highlights for us. The jambalaya still had good flavor, but it was noticeably greasier than usual, which made it less enjoyable. The portion size also felt much smaller, which was surprising. Overall, the quality just didn't match our previous visits. Crab legs are priced at $25 for the first pound, with each additional pound just $20, for Tuesday special only. Service was good no complaints there.

We finally tried this St Pete beach staple. Service was friendly and pretty speedy. We were a large group and got to try many different dishes. We had to try their famous new England Clam Chowder. It was tasty with a decent amount of clam, but it tasted a bit like raw onion and it arrived warm, but not hot. The calamari was over breaded for me. The Shrimp pasta was creamy and garlicky. The fried Redfish was good, but might be better blackened. The potatoes were just boiled with butter on top and not very exciting.

Nothing fancy but good food, big servings, and great prices! I had the clam chowder which was good but had an ingredient I couldn't identify that wasn't my favorite. The shrimp pasta was big and tasty. I thought I would take some home but surprised my self by finishing it. The rainbow trout special was a big 10 oz and half made it home. Juan was a great server, I liked the eclectic mix of music and they have a parking lot.

Very delicious seafood restaurant. We got some wonderful crab legs, shrimp and salmon. Great place, friendly service. This was a busy place but our server was right on it and food came out right on time.

The crab legs were delicious and so was the blackened redfish. The sides were just ok, not very flavorful. Will probably try somewhere else for seafood next time.

Very local feeling and cozy restaurant. I got the rumrunner to start. Then order the clam chowder and calamari to share and these were all equally good. Then I ordered the fried red fish for an entree which was very good. Would come back.

My granddaughter went with kids fish and fries. My wife chose the fish sandwich with fries. While I went with the crab legs (so yummy). This is a Military friendly restaurant.

Shrimp pasta excellent! Fried calamari was excellent but a little more crusted than I prefer. The marinara was unique with a little spice. The key lime pie was ok Would definitely come back !

Service was great! Food was not very good though. Just plain, not much flavor. Fried shrimp was the best thing that we had.

Based on other reviews I was really looking forward to this place. The staff was super nice however the food was not up to par. I ordered the shrimp trio and didn't realize till I bit in that the shrimp was still raw. The shrimp was overlapped on the skewer and didn't cook evenly. Serving raw food is a big NO NO. I especially have a sensitive stomach and easily get sick from improper food prep. My husband had the Jambalaya and he said it tasted good but a bit too tomato. The manager did come over to try and make it right, however raw food is a deal breaker for me and a basic food 101 no no. I believe I wasn't the only one to send back a meal as the table down from us also sent back the shrimp platter.

A poor excuse for a dinner

We were floored by how this place has plummeted since the original owner handed over the reins. What used to be our go-to spot for treating family and clients is now the culinary equivalent of a rerun from Kitchen Nightmares. Dinner felt less like a meal (with no salad, soup, or even a bread roll) and more like a cautionary tale. At over $25 a plate, we expected something edible, maybe even enjoyable. Instead, we got crab cakes that doubled as dental hazards--loaded with crunchy shell bits no one asked for. The shrimp was overcooked into tiny, rubbery tragedies. The rice was barely there and bland enough to forget mid-bite. But the worst part was definitely the "seasoned vegetables"--a wilted, sour mess of undercooked carrots and soggy onions and peppers that tasted like they'd been rescued from the compost pile. Quite literally. My partner's plate was no better: cod, scallops, and shrimp, all served in paper cups on a paper tray like some sad seafood picnic. Two miniature potatoes and a pat of melted butter rounded out the sad affair. Everything was over-fried, flavorless, and downright chewy--not in a good way. We weren't alone, either. Another table near us was deep in their own "what happened to this place?" conversation. Sadly, this once-beloved restaurant has cooked its last meal for us. We won't be back--and we'll be steering others clear too.

Thank you for the experience! We came here twice. We had to come back for their Tuesday special $20 1st lb of a legs. For every lb after that is $15. Can't beat the price. We ordered 3 lbs. We also had their fried mix seafood. Cod was delicious. Fries are delicious. We can pass on the slaw and veggies are stripped so I was not fond of that. Scampi was buttery. Too much butter. Waitress are awesome. They were all nice. It was packed on Tuesday so you might have to wait a bit or go when they open.

A typical setup with thatched roof bar, lots of tikis and overall fun atmosphere. We were able to pick from their standard menu as well as their brunch menu, and we picked from the latter. We ordered drinks: a captain and diet for hubby, and a quarantini for me which was light and tasty. We shared an appetizer sized ahi tuna, perfectly prepared and served with seaweed salad. Delicious! Our entree was a tasty crab cake served on a pretzel bun and served with tater tots ( our choice), and according to Tom " it was the bomb", as the "combined taste was so good". Our server was just okay; not overly friendly and a bit annoyed when I asked if they served mojitos ( evidently not, had I looked at the menu...) SOLID 5 STARS! My…read moreniece, Laura, and her partner, Rich, are visiting from Chicago. She wanted a restaurant with outdoor seating, a view of the water, an excellent wine list, fine dining selections, AND open on a Monday night. I cried for Help from Yelp. 82 Degrees nailed all 5 criteria. At 6:15pm We were able to make an on-line reservation for three people for 6:30pm. Be careful to only park in spots designated for the restaurant or you will be towed. You can't miss the parking signs because they are plastered on every parking spot. We arrived and were immediately shown to a choice rooftop table just in time to enjoy a fine view of the sunset on the Gulf. After the sun set the bartender asked the diners at the dozen or so tables if they wanted the huge glass windows closed, and since it was starting to get chilly everyone agreed. My niece is very knowledgeable about wine, so she took charge of the wine list. After discussing the (Admittedly small, but well selected) list with the sommelier Laura chose the Iron + Sand Cabernet Sauvignon, a well-regarded, bold red wine from Paso Robles, California (4.8 Stars rating, I looked it up). She must have liked it, because she drank two glasses. Later on, she ordered a Pinot Grigio to go with her entree but I've forgotten the name. She also chose specialty drinks for Rich and I that were tasty and had a nice kick to them, but I don't remember their names either. I would have taken a picture of the drinks menu but my niece wouldn't let go of the list! (Which also meant we couldn't see the prices either, but like the saying goes: If you have to ask, you can't afford it!) It took us a while to study the menu. Just like the wine list, the menu has limited selections but offers excellent choices. It was hard to make a decision! We started off sharing Crab Cakes ($18) and Lobster Bruschetta ($21) appetizers, and we also shared an order of the Lobster Bisque ($15). All three of us agreed that the appetizers were yummy, but the Lobster Bisque was worth the trip all by itself! For my entree I ordered the Wild Caught Snapper with mango pineapple salsa and broccolini ($36) and Truffle Fries ($9). Rich went with the Grouper BLT ($26) and Laura chose the Parmesan Cream Pasta ($26) (Which was why she needed a white wine to go with her entree). Portions did not appear to be large, yet none of us were able to finish our entrees, leaving plenty for Rich and Laura to take home in biodegradable containers for a midnight snack. I'm sorry I wasn't quick enough to get pictures of the entrees. Rich and Laura are not used to snapping pics before digging in, but I can tell you they were all well presented. Even though we were all full, we couldn't resist sharing a slice of: SALTED CARAMEL BUTTERFINGER CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE!!! ($12). Just the name tells you everything you need to know. While Rich and I were dueling with our forks, Laura swooped in and ate most of the dessert, which is totally unfair but is a legitimate female perk so there was nothing we could do. Next time we'll order more than one slice! Our perky waitress was extremely busy serving everyone but managed to keep the entire restaurant happy with her service. I don't think I saw her standing still for more than a couple seconds. Didn't get her name, either, but I'm sure the excellent tip told her we were pleased.

If you're looking for a (mostly) tequila-based craft cocktail, or a break from the norm in walking distance from numerous hotels and beach bars, this is definitely the place to go. They're related to the excellent Agave restaurant two doors down in the same building, so certain Agave food items are available here. In any case, I stopped in for some drinks recently and loved everything. I started with their Oaxaca Old Fashioned, which is an orange-tasting mix of tequila, mezcal and bitters. Moved on to The Don; a great margarita. Finally, feeling the need to step it up, I asked for a recommendation on a reasonably priced smooth tequila to sip; the recommended Padre Azul anejo was exactly what I was looking for. The interior has more of a lounge vibe than a bar; lots of group seating areas, a pool table, chess, etc. Now, my six months later update to my original review; I've since ventured into the world of mezcal, and love coming here to find random new mezcals they get in. Mezcal is also produced from the agave plant, but unlike tequila, generally can't be produced in anywhere near the volume, so you aren't going to find it receiving the same attention tequila does, since no distiller could generate enough to keep up with the demand an advertising campaign would bring. I've found I really enjoy a smoky mezcal, straight up or even for an upgraded margarita, and many of the mezcals they serve here can also be purchased in bottle form at the liquor store next door (a family member of the owner owns that store).

Parking is minimum $50 a day + fees. A cocktail? For an hour? Haha no. I'm being mildly disingenuous. The bar staff (and likely restaurant staff) will give you a QR code to validate all $58 of your parking. But it made me acutely miss a time when you could just park and patronize an establishment. Just don't forget to validate your parking, cuz they sure didn't ask preemptively. They were celebrating a 3-day grand reopening when we went on Saturday. There was *one* artisan in their market space. The music was pumping loud enough to not be able to converse. Although it drew a crowd of younger folks, there was not much to behold from the "grand" reopening. Not even s cost of paint. The beach bar may not have been part of the sprucing up idk, I didn't see anything worth celebrating. I meant to look at the size of the cocktail cup that we got (small), but $13-14 for a cocktail is highway robbery for the end result. And $18 for 6 wings ($3 a wing) was a little disappointing. I expected better of a Hilton adjoined restaurant. No one part was terrible. It was just the way they matched up - loud, expensive, small portions. If you're loud maybe you're cheap and tasty. If you're expensive, maybe you're fast and delicious. This was all the worst parts of a bar that doesn't care about its patrons' economics. A bar that wants to serve tourists with mediocrity and move on to the next crop of people who will never be there again. If you're a tourist it'll probably be fine, if overpriced. If you're a local, don't bother. To be fair, we should ask if there was anything good. hm ... no. We won't be returning. 3 stars is probably generous.
