Well looking at the rating for this place and the number or reviews I assume what I say here isn't going to be much different than the others. This place is amazing. Walking up it doesn't look like too much. It's off to the side and doesn't have the best presence, but inside (or outside) the chef is making pure goodness. We both had the blackened grouper with a crab concoction ($8 extra) with asparagus. My mom had potatoes and I had the fries which were both amazing. I have had grouper many times many places but this was by far the best I have had to date. I never eat all my food but I definitely ate all of this! Our server was also amazing - April. One of the most friendly servers I had while visiting the area. She had so much personality and provided great service all at the same time. I didn't sit inside but the outside is nice. Had the crab legs and my husband had the shrimp pasta. Absolutely amazing! The service was tremendous and food came out very quick!

This was our best meal since visiting St. Pete's beach. We've eaten out about 4 times looking for an awesome fish restaurant. My wife has been craving Grouper and remarkably most places don't have. Ordered the blackened and it was terrific. I had the seafood cioppino and it was amazingly delicious! Would have again in a heartbeat. Our server was really sweet and enthusiastic. I ordered the oysters and my husband got the trio. Both excellent choices. A dozen of the biggest juiciest oysters for $19.99. While I was super excited to try this seafood place it was a let down. Our waitress was not on her game at all and mind you it was after dinner rush and maybe 8 other tables besides ours (she had three of them) there were other waitresses. She took forever to bring us teas- then forgot mine and when I asked for a water with my sangria never brought it. It seemed her mind was elsewhere and that was not focused on our table. We ordered oysters and they were delicious but she didn't listen and brought more than we ordered (again not paying attention). My shrimp dish was amazing but My husband's grouper was slightly cold and no flavor. The other disappointment is we ordered the "shrimp skewers" they had a weird sauce and no where on the menu did it say they came with a sauce -we were not a fan and didn't end up eating them. Warmly received by all the waitresses. Staff at the end took extra time to get good photos of me and my best friend. - Clam Chowder, $8.95 (3*) Chock full of ingredients, but the finely minced kind. Appealing consistency- not too thick, not too thin. However, overly salty. - House Salad, $1.99 add-on (3*) Hard to mess up on salad. Nothing special here but par for the course. - Raw Oysters, 1 doz, $19.95 (2*) The oysters themselves were fine, but the muscle was not removed at all, making the oyster near impossible to eat unless we removed it ourselves with our fork. Needless to say, these oysters did not neatly slide into our mouths. - Grilled Grouper, 12oz, $39.95 (5*) This rating is solely for the fish. The side potatoes were not seasoned- with salt they were pretty good, though a bit oily. But the fish- wowza! Perfect cookery, good seasoning. There is no attempt at a nice presentation, but I cared not. This is fresh, good fish at its best. - Key Lime Pie, $7.95 (5*) Cold, good consistency. Delicious crust. Sometimes, simple and straightforward is the ticket. - Value (4*) Great portions. The oyster shucking is a simple fix and at $20 per doz (not at happy hour), that is pretty awesome. We were lucky enough to get seats at the bar ("you can do anything you want in Florida!" - hostess said when we asked if kids could sit at the bar). Found ourselves here for the second time in a few years and definitely had mixed results. The service is phenomenal - so attentive, working really hard, and hilarious! Best part of the night. The food was halvsies amongst our family. I had the clam chowder which was cold and the grouper which was bland and boring. My hubby had the seafood linguine which was flavorful and addictive and daughter had the snow crab which was a fun experience. Came here for dinner last night after visiting Fort de Soto park. We sat outside with our dog! Got 1 dozen oysters- had a fishy taste, but they were huge and plump. Maybe oysters are just better from NY! The jambalaya was good, really flavorful! The seafood Cioppino was a little on the salty side. Also came with two empty clam shells!! The clam meat was no where to be found lol. The shrimp and scallop skewers were good. Really liked the snow crab legs, part of the Duo we got. Delicious and sweet!! Service was good overall! A regular occasional stop for their INFAMOUS Shrimp Pasta Bowl with Texas Garlic Toast. We love stopping by Shells Seafood on a regular basis, the outdoor Tiki Bar area makes for fantastic al fresco dining with ice cold draft beer or happy hour specials. Great atmosphere and polite service make this our regular pasta Pitstop! The fresh grated Parmesan Cheese atop the creamy white Alfredo Sauce with the pasta and delicious Shrimp make this bowl their staple "award winner" in my book! Reasonably priced, absolutely delicious and quite filling - I simply have always loved this dish going back decades and it's just as good today as it's always been!!! The server was fantastic but the manager coped an attitude and acted like it was my fault they served disgusting food. She did give me a $10.00 credit. We read previous reviews of this place and we're optimistic so we walked over from our hotel... we saw the restaurant and both looked at each other thinking "wait, is this place legit???" It looks like a hole in the wall, not-so-safe seafood spot. We decided we'd try it since we were hungry and it was our first night in St Pete Beach. There's outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor truly is like an old diner vibe. It's VERY casual. Our waitress was super friendly and sweet. They had a bunch of fish options. I got the steamed clams and grilled snapper with veggies. My boyfriend had calamari and jambalaya. My clams were actually great! Hard to mess up steamed clams. The calamari was good too. Not super meaty, but it was good calamari. My boyfriend really liked his jambalaya - he took the remainder home for leftovers the next day. It had an interesting seasoning that isn't typical Cajun. I didn't think it was amazing, but again - it was fine. I sadly didn't like the seasoning on my fish either. I had snapper and it came out grilled in a yellow seasoning with the skin still on the bottom. It wasn't good. The veggies were soggy and kinda just a mismatch. My wife and I have been Shell fans for years. As we live in Ohio and are snow birds going to Shells is something we look forward to. But, sad to say, that has ended. We went for Sunday lunch on April 27 before our trip back to Ohio. They had a new menu (Just an excuse to raise prices and cut selection) because of being 40 years in business. I love scallops and this is always my treat, to have a scallop dinner at Shells. It was terrible compared to past visits. I received 8 scallops that were undercooked and watery. Not what you expect for a 22.99 price. Cole slaw was room temperature and the 2 potatoes I received were not even seasoned. This restaurant is family friendly and very welcoming. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and gave our table great recommendations. Best of all I was happy that we were able to come in straight from the beach. The appetizers came out quickly and the coconut shrimp was delicious. We also tried the buffalo shrimp and the seafood dip. Not a single crumb was left. The restaurant has beach decor with lots of seashells and a wall with daily fish and drink specials. The bathrooms were very clean and stocked with soap and paper towels. The shrimp Godfather pasta was light and had plenty of shrimp, onions and tomatoes. The French fries are nice and crunchy and the salad came out crisp and fresh. I wasn't a huge fan of the crab cakes, but they weren't bad. I'm just use to Maryland crab cakes and I haven't found a better crab cake so far. The kids chicken and shrimp pasta was tasty and I love the apple sauce and goldfish snack they include with it. The food is modestly priced and I loved the fact that the restaurant doesn't add gratuity and allows you to determine what percentage you want to leave for the amazing service you received. Food is definitely low cost but I guess sometimes you get what you pay for. All dishes basically have the same flavorless sauce. Supposed to be a garlic sauce but there's no garlic you can taste. Some versions have a few extra diced tomatoes from a can but that doesn't improve the flavor. You can choose between rice or pasta as a carb but both are tasteless. If you are a seafood lover, pasta lover or foodie just avoid this place. The 2 star is for our servers. She was great and it's not her fault the food is tasteless. Plus they have a $5 house wine happy hour all day long. I do recommend the Pinot Grigio for a liquid meal. read more
