I was passing through the neighborhood and found myself really hungry so I decided to pop in and grab a quick bite. Also I just had to check it out since I was surprised by an upper mid seafood concept spot "way out here" in Brightwood/ KDY. The salmon bites were tasty, but not memorable. I do wanna come back and try their catfish and or whiting sandwiches. Overall, A for effort. I think the vision is admirable, if not really brave trying to make a living from an upper-mid level takeout seafood spot in a slower residential neighborhood, somewhat far from the high foot traffic parts of town. I recently came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised they have happy hour on the weekends! It is a cozy restaurant and I enjoyed their playlist. My only complaint was service was a little slow. I had the dungeoness crab legs with the garlic cajun butter sauce. The flavors of the sauce really stood out and I enjoyed the quality of the crab. The Strawberry Dream drink was definitely worth it and the bar tender didn't skimp out on the alcohol which was a definite plus! She offered recommendations and pointed out their happy hour drinks on Sundays. For an appetizer we ordered the Fried Calamari. I really wished this was seasoned. The sauce saved the calamari from being a 0/5. They were really bland. The Lobster and Cajun shrimp pasta was delicious. This came out hot, seasoned and tasty. My only complaint is the tail was still on the shrimp. I have no clue who eats this part. My wife ordered the whiting sandwich. We ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts (pictured with and without flash) and OH EM GEE! Probably the best Brussels I've had in a long time, if ever. They were perfectly crispy and amazing flavors. The highlight of our meal was the Jerk Thai Fried Rice with Red Snapper. Y'all. The first bite I took was of the fried rice and literally had to put my fork down for how AHMAZING it was. Perfectly flavored and cooked. The jerk had a nice kick to it that wasn't overwhelming or painful but I will suggest that if you have a low spice level, don't get it. The snapper was perfectly breaded, seasoned, and fried and complimented the rice so well. Once I started eating, I couldn't stop and completely forgot to take pictures of my meal. We were told that they didn't have the broils at the moment, which was fine since we didn't intend to order that anyway. We ordered the lobster grilled cheese, buffalo shrimp and snapper entree. I initially opted for the egg rolls as my appetizer, but they were out. They were also out of lemons which was a "what in the world" moment for me. I finally stopped by Shellfish for a late lunch. I have been waiting for the restaurant to open. So I was really excited to check them out. I love to patronize minority-owned neighborhood businesses. I ordered Salmon cheesesteak. I was not disappointed, the salmon was well cooked and the food came out hot, much to my liken. The service was great. I am however on the fence about whether or not I will go back. The restaurant was noisy with a group at the bar talking all loud and throwing out some "choice words". Also, my fault, I did not look at my receipt until later to see a 20% service charge, for what exactly I don't know as this was separate from the tip. There is a thin layer of baked cheese on top but underneath it's more saucy. Not much seafood in it but could be just the portion I scooped out. Which leads me to the portion sizes. One word: huge. Im too stuff to finish any of it. The introvert in me appreciated ordering from a screen and sitting down to wait. Wait time was slightly long but reasonable to me for hot food made from scratch. I came shortly after they opened and there was one person ahead of me. There was only one person cooking and serving so I can see how the wait time could easily be very long during a rush. Decor was cool. There were so many other things I wanted to try so I'll likely be back on a day when i have time to wait. I observed that they run out of certain items or all the items on the menu may not be available. I want them to win so I hope they can work out the service kinks.
