I've never bought gas here, but I wouldn't take my car to any other mechanic than Sam. Not sure where the reviews are for the service center, so I am adding a review of the service center here. I don't think I have bought Shell petroleum for years, because of their dismal corporate reputation. First met Sam when a friend of mine took my 2001 Ford Focus here to have the oil and fluids changes and the engine washed after Burning Man. Cost: just the cost of the supplies. Any other time we have taken the car in for a routine service or for some weird noise, Sam has been scrupulously honest and only recommended necessary (for safety) repairs. He'll assess what needs to be done immediately and recommend what can wait. A couple of times, he took a look, made a suggestion and didn't charge us at all. We've even brought in our own parts for him to use and he just charges a modest amount for labor. Car is always ready on time, parts are reasonable, Sam communicates our choices well, and we always feel like we have a choice. No reason to go anywhere else. I just have a feeling that this gas station is suspicious. I often fill up here, and don't really think much about it. Though when I went the other night, I realized something seemed off. My car has a 13.2 gallon tank. I took my car there right after the gas light came on, on the high side of the empty line (and usually my car's gas light will come on twice, meaning after the first light comes on, I can drive for a couple days). I let the car fill, and it put in 13.135 gallons. Now, I have had this car for over 10 years, and no matter now long I have driven on empty, it has never taken 13 gallons ever. Eric and Lonel are awesome! Very professional. I had my car towed to their shop on a friday morning. Found out i needed a water pump, hoses, gaskets. They kept informed throughout the day with updates and very fair price. I told Eric if possible i really needed my car for the weekend to get to work. Him and Lonel made that happen. The best garage I have ever used in San Francisco! I have lived in the city for almost a decade and had many experiences with honestly every type of luxury vehicle. I have to be honest that until finding this garage I had incessantly bad luck with cars. I found shell randomly, and by convenience really, but man oh man am I happy I did! Eric And his team are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy, as well as considerate of their customers schedules. They get the job done quickly and correctly which is a hard thing to find in SF. Won't take my bmw anywhere else. I have seen some pretty insanely nice cars in the garage, including vintage, as well as your more standard SUVs and commuter students, proving that they are capable of any job. Went to this gas station this morning to put air in my car tire. I put in my 4 quarters, and the machine didnt start. I went inside and told the lady, and she said "oh yea, its not working" I said okay, can I have my 4 quarters back so I can go to another gas station to get air? (I didnt have any more quarters, but really who carries around a bunch of quarters these days?!) She told me she couldn't give it back to me because the air machine is owned by another company, and she cant open the cash register. I asked her why the machine didn't have a sign on it saying it was out of order? She told me someone was having issues with it yesterday, and I just told her about it again today? Okay, so again, since it wasn't working yesterday...why wasn't there a sign on it? Anyways, she was polite about it, so that is not what made me mad. What made me mad is she said her boss had just come, and he was going to check the machine. He literally looked at it for a quick second, and then very impolitely told me its not working. Yes...I know. So I go back in and ask the lady at the cashier to change out a $5 bill so I can get $1 in quarters, and go to another gas station. He looks at me from behind the cashier and says "its not working, so dont put any more money in it" once again very impolitely. NO S*** Sherlock! I'm getting change since the machine at your gas station just took my quarters and doesn't work! This had nothing to do with losing a dollar worth of quarters, but do not be rude to a customer who just got gypped by your machine that had no indication that it was not working. I am a negligent owner of a '95 Toyota Camry and I am also auto shop challenged. So when I heard angry hissing sounds coming from under the hood I knew my trusty bucket was having problems. The dummy temperature gauge was on the red, and even I know that is never good. So when I pulled into this shop I was just praying I hadn't blown up the engine or something else really bad. The mechanic looked under the hood and said we'd wait 20 minutes for the engine to cool down then he'd run a pressure check on the radiator. In calming words he briefed me on the best and worst possible scenarios. In short, I left the car with him and he diagnosed that there were a few minor problems; cracked gasket, old hoses, old radiator cap, and no proper coolant. He replaced those parts, flushed out the radiator and recommended I come back in a week and he'd flush the old radiator of more rust. He showed me all the replaced parts and its a wonder that my trusty bucket hadn't blown up sooner. Thing is, this mechanic could have told me I needed a new radiator and who knows what else and I would've believed him. But he didn't. So the guy was not only honest and respectful of my ignorance, he educated me on simple auto maintenance. And, I did a price comparison to other shops in the neighborhood. I saved a good chunk of change going to Performance Shell and my trusty bucket is trusty once again. My 5 Stars = Highly Recommended! read more

I got a flat tire right down the road and managed to drive it to the shell auto body shop and had them put on my spare. I needed a special tire so they ordered the tire for me and gave me a price of 140 including labor. When I came back to have the tire put on, he tried to charge me 170! I said excuse me but you told me 130 the other day. He said it was an honest mistake and had forgotten the price he quoted me because he had not written it down. Maybe it was a mistake but it seemed a little suspicious. Not to mention, they didn't even bring it into the shop to put on the tire. They just put the tire on right there in the middle of the gas station. I have had tires changed before and they always switch the tires by putting the new tire in the back and the older tire in the front. They then of course started telling me several other things that were wrong with my car. This place just seems like they are trying to get as much money out of you as quickly as possible. read more

Honest working young man. Terrible shop. My experience was beyond robbery. Brought my decent running newly purchased car there for all the essential flushes,maintainance,and checks. Ended up getting them to ask me to leave my car over night. Told the team no I need my car. They said okay give us 5 to 6 hours. Agreed. Called me back 6 hrs later and says sir your cars done. Take the bus there. Meet both the lead mech and laborer. Lead me ch leaves for day. Look at things and paid cash. 3 mins later my tranny begins to slip hard. Went back. The guy told me my smog check would be done in half an hour. When I came back half an hour later, he told me he hadn't started. By then the car (a very reliable 2006 Honda that was recently tuned up) was cold. He didn't warm it up and it just barely didn't pass. I told him he should have warmed it up and he took no accountability and refused to give me the keys unless I paid him. Without doing anything to the Honda, I took it to another place the next day and it passed with plenty to spare. They guy there said that I was right - it would have passed if it had been warmed up. read more

I highly recommend Eric Fazio. He is incredibly honest and goes way out of his way to help his customers. I'm still pretty amazed at what he did for me - he was involved in doing a mechanical inspection on my out-of-state truck when I sold it in the Bay Area. During the inspection he was super thorough and honest, and I ended up selling my truck in the parking lot of the Shell. I had a big mess on my hands because the new owner didn't register it for a couple of months and got a ticket going over the bridge in the meantime. He helped me brainstorm ideas on how to get in contact with her and ended up giving her a call himself. I'd say that's the best customer service and care I've ever received. read more

I've been bringing my 20 year old Honda to these guys for as long as I've had the car. They are quick and have the car out when they say. They will give you options depending on how much money you have at the moment and they are really reasonably priced. When I get my new car I'm bringing it back to them as well!! read more

Went to this place because I needed an oil change. At first, it was great, the guy who did the oil change offered me a $10 off coupon as some sort of anniversary special so I ended up paying only about $20 for it. However, when I returned to pick up the car, a different mechanic told me that my transmission fluid was really dirty and needed to be changed otherwise I would risk complete transmission failure. He also said I needed a complete coolant flush. All this was going to cost about $150. I told him I couldn't do it right then and left. Then I called a place I had taken my car to before and explained what the mechanic told me. They said they could do everything for around $90. So I took the car there instead the next day. When I picked it up an hour later, the mechanic said that my transmission fluid looked fine and that the coolant only needed to be topped off. So basically, the guy at Performance Shell was trying to rip me off. Unless you like being cheated, I would suggest that you take your business elsewhere! read more

My son inherited his grandmother's 1999 Toyota Camry and for the past 5 years has driven it to south to and from college for summer and winter breaks. Performance Shell has made sure the car was well maintained and safe. As a single mom on a tight budget it is important to me to keep both our cars in good running condition without paying excessive amounts of $$ for unnecessary work. Eric is a knowledgeable mechanic and has given us sound advice on repairs for the Toyota and for my 2006 Kia. Extra bonus, I have received discounts when possible and I get a ride to work when I drop my car off in the morning and a ride back to the station when repairs are completed. I brought my car to have a smog test. The car at first did not pass...I was not happy. A mechanic in the stall next to the smog test station asked me did it not pass? And I said no, unfortunately. He said he could fix that. So I was kind of in a bind, and I said go ahead...the quote was $65.00 So after two hours or so it was done and the smog check person said it passed. Great. I paid the $65.00 and was on my way. When I was on the freeway, I pressed on the accelerator and the car kept gaining speed and it would not slow down...VERY scary...I was dodging cars and trying to avoid running into another car. Eventually, I managed to pull over by pressing the brake to the floor and then shift into neutral. I got towed to my regular and trusted mechanic who looked at the car said the adjustments these guys did were all wrong. Not to mention now it needs a new throttle. The car ran fine BEFORE this incident. Draw your own conclusions. read more
