Chopped BBQ and those sweet sweet yams!!!
    Casey C.

With all of the development in downtown Jersey City, it could be easy to overlook a smaller neighborhood spot like Shawn's Table. Inevitably their advertising budget will be dwarfed by the cookie cutter hipster establishments with big backing. Partly why it took me a little longer to find it. I thank the small amount of Yelpers who have shown this place their 5 star love. Hopefully more will see this and get some curious folks like myself through the door. I am sure glad that I did. When I walked up to the counter I was greeted by an older gentleman with a kind smile that described us the offerings for the day. I had the chopped BBQ and my lady went with the Fried Tilapia. Each of the meals came with the choice of two large side orders. The M&C was a cheese overload...so filling...the okra, corn and tomato were solid...but the hero were those sweet yams! Not too sugary...but still ending up full of flavor! The main dishes were hearty and took more than one sitting to finish; massive portions. For theses types of prices the value is clear. Delicious! I was pissed that I had to use their ATM (the fee is 2.75) but the food made up for it. I ordered the fried Turkey chops dinner. I have not one complaint and the serving sizes were so plentiful I had enough food for the next day. I was very impressed.

Working my first OT of the year so I gotta load up. Since Ive had Karina's and Lou's too many times, tried Shawn's Table, which is on the other side of PS 20 on Ocean Ave. All this for $12 (theres another Salmon cake but saved it for the half i didnt eat for later lol). GOOD FOOD!!!! PEOPLE ARE NICE!!!! EVEN THEIR NAPKINS ARE BETTER!!!!! WILL BE BACK!!! Maybe some of those Downtown Bloggers should give this place a visit.

The most amazing food I've had since I moved to jersey city. Everything tastes so fresh and well seasoned. My husband and I will definitely become regulars. Soul food from the heart

This spot is real deal for breakfast lunch or dinner. SOLID place and friendly staff! Food is what I do and this is the place to do it!

Support this establishment. If your apprehensive like I was its unnecessary. The place is clean, atmosphere is pleasant and the people are very kind. The food is delicious. Whatever you thought about this restaurant being on Ocean Avenue is a fallacy. Support local businesses especially Black Owned in your backyard.

In…read moreits heyday, they weren't entirely bone-focused, focusing on drums and thighs but not providing wings and breasts as far as I know. Now it's all tenders and sandwiches. I'm sure that to some extent, voters are to blame for this move. Yelp ethics side note: I'm an enthusiastic or even militant supporter of bones in chicken but it seems unfair to go 1-star because of the menu change. There's nothing I want at Lululemon but I don't rate it 1-star. The biscuits are enjoyable. I got fried chicken and buffalo chicken versions. The kale-and-quinoa salad was good by salad standards but not as much as fun as the enticing collard greens/black-eyed peas/tomato side that was once available. Might try some dipping sauces next time. It would be great if some of the old classics return but I still appreciate the friendly workers and the creation of a low-stress neighborhood joint with board games and outdoor tables.

I parked a block away (yay for free street parking) and was already salivating by the delicious smell of their fried chicken. They were super busy and told us it would take 20-30 minutes but it ended up only taking 15 mins! People rave about their Chicken Caesar Wrap and honestly yes, it's good. It could use more caesar dressing and less croutons but other than that, really solid and the fried chicken in it goes so well with the caesar salad. To be honest, I was most super excited about the Three Piece Chicken w Biscuit! I heard there was an outrage when the NYC locations took it off the menu so I knew I had to give them a try. The batter - seasoned, light, and satisfying. The chicken - juicy, flavorful, and moist. Each bite was even more elevated with their sauces which I absolutely recommend! The Truffle Aioli was my personal favorite; it was creamy, velvety, and earthy. The Bobwhite Sauce was not what I expected whatsoever; it's fruity and sweet with a slight kick. Although I didn't like it on the chicken, it went crazy on the buttermilk biscuit which is the most pillowy, fluffy, and light biscuit I've had with fried chicken. Their Hand Cut Fries are twice fried in 100% beef tallow making them insanely addictive. Compared to other fast casual spots I've tried (i.e., Charles Pan-Fried Chicken), Bobwhite definitely hit the spot more. Highly recommend!

The inside is nice and bright so it offers a great start to your morning. Also, the wifi is pretty good so no issues from a work perspective. I ordered an avocado toast along with a cold brew. This has somewhat been a routine of mine since moving here and I haven't really been disappointed anywhere I've gone. This was no different. Loved the picked onion addition too. Now - the pricing is not necessarily breakfast pricing. Expect to spend around $20 for both a breakfast item and coffee like I did. But if you have the means to do so, then you might as well.

Long story short I asked for refund but they said they have to ask their manager who's not coming back that day since it is holiday and I would need to wait until next day for refund so I end up getting a cheesecake instead. The cheesecake tasted little sour so initially I thought it went bad. Also it tasted like it's been sitting in the fridge for a long time. You know when you taste fridge smell from the food. The ambiance is…read moreperfect--moody, upscale, and consistently chic--making it a great choice for a high-end night out. The Food: The star of the night was the Spicy Rigatoni. The creamy Calabrian pepper tomato sauce delivers a legitimate, vibrant heat that doesn't hold back. Breaking into the Italian burrata is essential; the creamy center beautifully tempers the spice, while the micro basil adds a nice hit of freshness. We also started with the truffle fries, which were executed perfectly--crispy, aromatic, and a total highlight. The Service: While the food was top-tier, the service wasn't great which is why I deducted 2 whole stars. I ordered a ginger ale that never made it to the table, yet it still appeared on our final bill - not cool. It's a small detail, but at this level of dining and price point, you expect those things to be caught. Also, the service overall was pretty slow which was disappointing. Verdict: Even with the minor billing oversight, the culinary execution is elite. If you're a fan of bold, spicy pasta and a great atmosphere, this is still a JC must-visit.
