Even though the Reddit pile-on has been harsh, I do agree that Bobwhite was better with bones. In its heyday, they weren't entirely bone-focused, focusing on drums and thighs but not providing wings and breasts as far as I know. Now it's all tenders and sandwiches. I'm sure that to some extent, voters are to blame for this move. Yelp ethics side note: I'm an enthusiastic or even militant supporter of bones in chicken but it seems unfair to go 1-star because of the menu change. There's nothing I want at Lululemon but I don't rate it 1-star. The biscuits are enjoyable. I got fried chicken and buffalo chicken versions. The kale-and-quinoa salad was good by salad standards but not as much as fun as the enticing collard greens/black-eyed peas/tomato side that was once available. Might try some dipping sauces next time. It would be great if some of the old classics return but I still appreciate the friendly workers and the creation of a low-stress neighborhood joint with board games and outdoor tables. read more

Ordered: Bottle of Arnold Palmer (~$4) Chicken Caesar Wrap (~$13): fried chicken, romaine lettuce, Pecorino Romano cheese and croutons tossed in homemade caesar dressing and served on a premium flour tortilla Three Piece Chicken w Biscuit (~$10): 2 legs & w thigh with buttermilk biscuit Hand Cut Fries (~$5) Bobwhite Sauce (~60¢): made with apricot preserves, peach puree, ginger & a touch of cayenne pepper Chimichurri Aioli (~60¢): classic aioli infused with fresh herbs, garlic, olive oil, and a hint of red wine vinegar Truffle Aioli (~$1): mayonnaise, black truffle paste, and a touch of dijon mustard Aya's take: Oh, Bobwhite Counter is the real dinner! I parked a block away (yay for free street parking) and was already salivating by the delicious smell of their fried chicken. They were super busy and told us it would take 20-30 minutes but it ended up only taking 15 mins! People rave about their Chicken Caesar Wrap and honestly yes, it's good. It could use more caesar dressing and less croutons but other than that, really solid and the fried chicken in it goes so well with the caesar salad. To be honest, I was most super excited about the Three Piece Chicken w Biscuit! I heard there was an outrage when the NYC locations took it off the menu so I knew I had to give them a try. The batter - seasoned, light, and satisfying. The chicken - juicy, flavorful, and moist. Each bite was even more elevated with their sauces which I absolutely recommend! The Truffle Aioli was my personal favorite; it was creamy, velvety, and earthy. The Bobwhite Sauce was not what I expected whatsoever; it's fruity and sweet with a slight kick. Although I didn't like it on the chicken, it went crazy on the buttermilk biscuit which is the most pillowy, fluffy, and light biscuit I've had with fried chicken. Their Hand Cut Fries are twice fried in 100% beef tallow making them insanely addictive. Compared to other fast casual spots I've tried (i.e., Charles Pan-Fried Chicken), Bobwhite definitely hit the spot more. Highly recommend! read more

I was in the area and Came here on a Friday for lunch. The place was very clean and busy. I Ordered a bbq chicken biscuit, spicy chicken sandwich, mac and cheese, fries, and a black cherry soda. Everything came up to almost $30. The food came out less than 5 min later piping hot, the food was sooo good. The chicken was fresh and juicy, not dry. And the chicken sandwich was actually spicy, the meat was well seasoned. And the biscuits were so soft. I would pass on the mac and cheese. I live 50 min away and would defiantly come back. read more

Literally my favorite fried chicken sandwich place in JC. This place has AMAZINGGGGG chicken tenders! Their menu has been simplified recently. The previously had cheese pimento which was honestly so great. I wish they'd bring it back. I heard it was taken off the menu back in April. I usually order the chicken biscuits as I'm a sucker for the combo. The original and pickle and ranch are my favorites. Their sides of fries (cooked in beef tallow!!) as well as their mac and cheese are solid options. The sweet tea here is only okay, so if you're not wanting to spend $3 on a meh beverage, skip it. You order at the counter for eat in or take out. Either way, service is super fast. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Dog-friendly as well. Overall you have to come here if you're craving amazing chicken tenders or fried chicken sandwiches! read more

Great experience here. Lovely location tucked away in a quieter residential section of Jersey City. Close to the water offering some amazing views of the NYC Skyline along the Hudson River. Be sure to make time for a walk before or after you eat. Parking can be tough but we were able to find a spot two short blocks aways on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered tenders, fries and sides. Food came out in about 10 minutes. Prices are a bit more expensive than "fast food" but worth it. Tenders, fries, biscuit and a drink will cost about $16ish. Everything was very good...definitely a few steps above fast food places. The space was clean and well-maintained. There are lots of board games separated by age ranges from toddler to adult...comes in very handy for those with kids. All staff we encountered were very nice. read more

That's it - game over. Whatever other fried chicken place you were thinking, forget that. Bob White's Counter is a hidden gem in Paulus Hook, just steps from the water. True to its name, there is a line of stools by the counter you can eat, but there are also indoor and outdoor tables. The food is just fantastic. Made to order, the chicken comes out piping hot, with a crispy exterior and is moist within. The biscuit is a mouthful of heavenly fluffiness. And I can't say enough about the collard greens. Otherwise, the establishment is a warmly lit place, with a simple menus that sticks to the classics. This *is* a fried chicken place - that's is what they do and do best. Don't come here asking for a burger. I hope nothing ever changes. read more

Lots of good reviews for this place so I had to check it out myself and I'm glad I did. The food is inexpensive and plentiful. I got the barbecue chicken sandwich and a side of fries for around $16. I sat at the counter and was surprised by how quickly the food came out. The service is good! I'm expecting to come back and try more options soon. read more

Finally crossed this place off the list to try. I've been meaning to come to bobwhite and get myself a chicken Caesar salad wrap and it's truly something I never had before. There's croutons which gives it a crunch. You got your fried chicken chunks and it's drizzled in ranch dressing, what's not to love? I also ordered the chipotle ranch fried chicken and unfortunately that was average. It wasn't saucy enough and the fried chicken was too dry and not nearly as juicy as others I've had. Verdict for me is to skip the sandwich and get the wrap. ---- I came back a week later and tried their Buffalo chicken sandwich and they truly redeemed themselves. This one was saucy throughout and not just a little dollop on the corner. Absolutely much better than the chipotle ranch I had last week. Must get!! read more

(Dined 07/11/23 TU @ 6:30pm): I would counter that a bobwhite was a quail and not a chicken! An afternoon of drinking and only pretzel bites at 902 Brewing Co. led us to Bobwhite Counter for some real sustenance before we headed home. This location was close to my friend's work, and she highly-recommended it. I was always down for fried chicken and Cajun Southern cuisine, so she didn't have to twist my arm. I had to review the menu for a bit but eventually ordered like a starving lunatic. Minutes later, my number was called, I collected our bagged order, and easily found a table outside where there wasn't any table service which was fine. The service was straightforward - all was good! PARKING (Varied: N/A this instance) We took the light rail to the Essex St. stop and walked about 10 minutes through the waterfront area. They had no onsite lot. Otherwise, there appeared to be limited spots along the main drag of Warren St. and nearby surrounding side streets; take public transportation - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE An open clean space https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=snEPFXZGq88OdjaQMpSo6g&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw with the feel that you were either in a kitchen or waiting room with the pronounced tiling, there were several legible menus hung on the wall behind the counter, several chairs/tables, and a row of low stools that bordered the counter. We opted for an outdoor sidewalk table. Plenty of natural lighting came through the large front glass windows and front door while a mix of soul-sucking fluorescent and hung electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs while smooth R&B music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=Hqt5lNW_kUXCaLFCWoUjhQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I liked Bobwhite Counter and appreciated the Southern-style cuisine. However, generally speaking I felt the price/value comparison was off, I wished there were meal deals versus everything a la carte (unless I missed something). The menu was simple and streamlined with slight variations. The food and service were fine. And, whenever possible I liked to support small family-owned businesses. I found fairly good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $46.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 3.5 STARS read more

My nephew lives near this restaurant in Union Square, Manhattan, NY and said we need to try them out and that we wouldn't be disappointed. Oh he was right! I throughly enjoyed my food! This southern style chicken spot is exactly what I needed. Way better than most chicken sandwiches I've had including the over-rated Chick-fil-A. The chicken sandwich was the right size, the right flavors that really hit the spot. I combined the sandwich with their mac & cheese and a sweet ice tea which was amazing. My meal was pretty effing good...thanks nephew! Their menu also includes buckets of chicken, chicken strips, buffalo chicken sandwich, black-eyed peas, fries, coleslaw, desserts, etc. Another thing I love is that you come in and order your food and your food is ready pretty fast. You have the option of sitting inside, which is very limited, or sitting outside. This is a small restaurant just like everything else in the area. I saw a lot of people pick up and go which is always an option if you live nearby or are in a hurry. The service was friendly and quick. This will definitely be one of my go to spots when I'm back in the city. read more

I was told by my co-workers that I HAD to eat here. They were not lying. The place is standard looking burger joint but the service is fast and the staff are super friendly. Now the food. The food was seasoned for the GODs. I got the tender box with the biscuit and man dipping it in the bobwhite sauce was heaven , the biscuit was fluffy and soft. The mac & cheese felt like I came from a cook out. They seasoned the heck out of those noodles cause good lord I enjoyed every bite. The price was reasonable and the store felt open and spacious but nothing too spectacular . Highly recommend if you want some delicious food for a reasonable price. read more

Bobwhite was my go-to for fried chicken and Mac and cheese. Now, they stopped serving bone-in chicken. I've tried their tenders, tried their sandwiches and wraps. It's all just meh. There is really no reason to go anymore and now I'm left with a drumstick sized hole in my heart. The sauce is still ok, but what good is it without good bone-in chicken? Bobwhite is dead to me now. I'm not mad, just really sad. read more

The food here was amazing! I hope they never close, because I eat here every week. Definitely worth trying!

Plainly: fantastic fried chicken. Seasoning is great, their chicken is juicy inside. They have a few different cuts and you can actually order between thighs and drumsticks which is great for those with preferences! Location might seem a bit out of the way but honestly great to walk all that friend chicken. Good amount of indoor seating, they even have a bar section. it wasn't loud when we visited but there weren't a ton of people either. Service was fairly fast. The best chicken sandwich, hands down. Usually I get two, eat one the same day and refrigerate the other for the following day, and it's still crunchy despite being in the fridge overnight?! This is some good CLUCKIN' CHICKEN!!! Was in the mood for some fried chicken. Bob white is not too far away so decided to come here. I walked to the store and ordered in the store. It didn't take long at all I ordered the 10 piece leg and thigh bucket $19.99. I didn't time it but I wasn't waiting long. 10 min if I had to guess. It came out ready and hot. I took it home and devoured at least 5 pieces. The chicken was crispy and the meat was juicy and tender and was still hot when I got home. There was a couple pieces where the chicken skin was on the chewy side but for the most part the chicken was really good. I will Definitely be coming back to fix my fried chicken craving. I can only speak for the fried chicken. They do have sandwiches there but yet to try that. read more

If you're looking for fried chicken with less breading this is the place for you. Bobwhite does a great job on the deep fry despite a lighter coating and in fact they add a layer of spices or flavours that seem herb inspired to the the crust. Aww, I woke up today to a bunch of compliments for ROTD for Bob White. What a lovely way to start the day!! Since I wrote that first review, I've gone to Bob White almost every single week! So I have to talk about some of the other things I've tried there! The fried fish sandwich - think of an elevated fish filet but with higher quality ingredients and a great price point! The chicken caesar wrap, the buffalo chicken wrap, and yesterday, I tired the chicken with roasted vegetables wrap. All of them are good and different in their own way. You can get grilled or fried chicken. The wrap is so delicious - it's so soft. I highly recommend any of these 3 sandwiches. Chicken wings!! The sauces for these are amazing, you can't go wrong with the remoulade. They also do breakfast sandwiches now - I think I tried the sausage, egg and cheese. Came in to get a buffalo chicken sandwich. Wait was a lot longer than usual but the workers were hard at work as they always are. I'm not sure if they changed their chicken tender recipe but it seemed different compared to the last time I had it.
