After the raw chocolate event, Michelle and I were hungeeee. Michelle spotted a shawarma place while walking to the event so we decided to make a stop at the shawarma station. It was about 9:10PM on a Thursday night, we were the only customers. We were immediately greeted by the friendly man and women at the front and asked if we've ever been. I haven't so they offered samples before I decided what to order. The beef and chicken were fresh off the skewers and wow were they ever tasty! I really enjoyed the beef because it had a hit of heat and the chicken was super flavorful. We both decided to go with a mixed platter which is a mix of beef and chicken that comes with rice, salad, hummus and garlic sauce. Sweet sauce was poured over as well. We ate in but asked for them to be in takeout containers just in case we couldn't finish. Like I said above, we were hungeeeee so we sat down and dug in. I mixed everything together, yes everything. The rice, with the salad, the meats and the garlic sauce all together. MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! I ate the whole container + some of Michelles beef because it got too spicy for her (baby). Michelle really enjoyed everything though. The combination on the platter was delightful, the garlic sauce was sweeter than other places I've tried but nonetheless super tasty. The meats were cooked to perfection with the beef having a slight crisp to it. Next time I'll ask for more sweet sauce, NOM. Craving shawarmas and in the Kensington area? Shawarma station is the place to stop!

The chicken shawarma is tasty. The Sam's sandwich with eggplant and falafel is OK. Service is friendly and fast. I will come back.

While the owner is a lovely gentleman, the food there is ridiculously overpriced.

Have had lots of Shawarma in my day and some of the middle eastern foods our family likes best. We…read morestopped in for a hearty lunch and found the food absolutely average at best. I had a falafel platter which was dry, old and flavourless. The platter was mostly old rice and old potatoes. Hubby and daughter had beef donairs and described the meat as dry. My older daughter ordered butter chicken and it was dry dry dry and she found hair in it! The place has not been cleaned in a very long time and I think thats a direct reflection of how many F$&@S are given in the establishment. Won't be returning.

So my girlfriend and I worked 3 incredibly long days up in the mountains. No cell phone service, no…read morerestaurant, no grocery stores, no nothing. Isolated from humanity. Came home exhausted, tired and hungry for some warm delicious comfort food. After a quick search for restaurants near home, we decided to order from the KING of Shawarma. Reviews seemed decent. 5 stars on FB and 4 stars on YELP. Figured, why not I'm new to Calgary and need to find some good shawarma and Mediterranean food. I order through Skip the Dishes. Food came fast. Took about 45 minutes. I specially requested for all sauces and dips to be on the side, since I've worked in the restaurant industry before I understand that food doesn't always travel well and in order to avoid soggy messy food made my request and even apologize for the inconvenience in advance. Food comes. I look at it and instantly become irritated. Everything is mixed together. And all the exact same shade of grey and brown. The skin was falling off the potatoes (and not in a good tasty way) the chicken was dry and flavourless. I can honestly say that neither mine or my roommates food was touched. Literally made me sick to my stomach looking at it. Whatever, ok things happen. I get it. I called the restaurant to complain about my order and to request either a refund or a new meal. I asked to speak to a manger, the person on the other line said he was and that he remembered packing my food. I told him it wasn't what I ordered, and that I wasn't happy. He was rude, arrogant and refused to take responsibility for the situation. He tried to blame skip the dishes for his poor work ethic. After about 3 minutes of talking to his fine outstanding young man it comes to my attention that he is in fact NOT a manger and that none are there to talk to me or deal with the situation. After all that talking, this person can't do a thing to help me. I tell him to talk to his manager and to call ME back. He agrees. Fast forward 30 minutes still no call. Nothing. So I call back. First call phone rings about 15 times then disconnects. Second call straight to voicemail. Third call he answers. Tells me the manger isn't there. I tell him I'll be by tomorrow to return this food. He shrugs off my concerns and lets me go. Well today, as much as I wanted to bring the food back and collect a refund, life got in the way and I needed to work. Still have yet to hear from a manager. I didn't even receive an apology or nothing. Wound up making freezer pizza for dinner, after only wanting shawarma from the king.

Apologies for the length but wanted to articulate the experience and give a full review/explanation…read morefor my 1 star. Stopped in here as we were looking for place to grab a coffee and bite to eat before my mom's doctor appointment nearby (she lives 2 hours out of city so we had a little over an hour until her appointment) and will likely never return. We arrived around 12:30 pm only to be informed that the kitchen did not open until 2 pm but we could get some appetizers (except we were never given a menu for appetizers, only beverages and there was a dessert menu on the table next to us, so we didn't order food). Our group of four ordered 3 coffees and one pop. Coffees were $3.99+tax each for just a small cup of regular coffee (nothing fancy like lattes or the $6.99 coffee that was also on the menu). For comparison I paid $2.19 for a coffee twice the size at Tim Hortons that morning. I also asked for a glass of water (which I had to remind waitress about when she brought our drinks) and she brought out water for each of us which was very warm and the glasses were not particularly clean. The decor of the place was quite nice and we all liked the look and feel but the bathroom sink tap was broken making it difficult to wash hands after using the washroom. The waitress was very polite and friendly though not very attentive or even accessible as she seemed to be in the back for quite some time so when we wanted a refill on coffee we had to wait for her to appear behind the bar and then had to go up to ask her. I ordered 1 refill on my coffee and my mom & her friend ended up having 2 refills each (so 2 cups for me and 3 cups of coffee each for them so less than a whole pot of coffee which costs pennies to make). We were shocked when we were paying the bill which totalled $45 (for a couple of small cups of coffee and 1 pop!). Apparently $3.99 gets you one small cup of coffee and if you want more its another full charge for each cup. We were never told this (nor was it indicated in the menu). To be clear it was NOT busy (there was only 1 other customer in the entire place so it was not a surcharge for only ordering coffee during busy time which I would have understood) and it was clear we had never been there before (we had to ask where bathroom was, and about parking and my mom inquired about hookah as the other customer was puffing away on one etc.).. I used to waitress before and since it is not standard practice to charge full price for each cup of coffee I would have mentioned it to a customer so they were aware. We had no idea until it came time to pay. 1. If your kitchen isn't open until 2pm that should be indicated in your ads/listings (they only said they opened at 10am I believe when we searched for place nearby). 2. If you are going to charge that kind of price for a very small cup of basic coffee I shouldn't have to wait for the staff to appear and then have to get up and come to you to ask for it (and it should be indicated that refills are full charge rather than surprising the person with an exorbitant bill at the end). 3. For those kinds of prices I'd expect a fully functioning place, not dealing with a broken down tap barely attached to the bathroom sink as well as what appeared to be a leaking toilet (very obvious crusty chemical looking stain around the toilet in the stall beside me). Over all it was the most expensive and most disappointing "going for a coffee" experience any of us had ever had. I hate to say it be we probably should have just gone and grabbed some coffees from the gas station down the street.
