Excellent Mediterranean food for an excellent value. I noticed a lot of people on Yelp got the shawarma, but my friend and I elected for the beef and chicken plates ($14.50 each). First of all, the portion sizes were very generous -- a single plate could easily serve two. Both meats were cut fresh from slabs of meat hanging behind the counter, so the meat was tender and juicy. Overall the plate was well-balanced and tasty -- filled with pickles, cabbage, lettuce, rice, and a hefty spoonful of hummus. They even threw in two naan breads for each order and complimentary baklava! Not to mention -- the lady behind the counter was very friendly and pleasant to interact with. The inside of the restaurant isn't anything to special -- a couple of tables, bar seating, and a TV that was playing the World Cup. More of a quick to-go spot. Very pleased! read more

Just flew in and decided to eat here as it was late and other restaurants don't allow kids after 9PM. I'm so glad we came. Food was amazing and flavorful. The owner was very kind and even though I Messed up the order, he fixed it no problems. Definitely a go to place for shawarma, and if you like spicy ask, he can add some spice. read more

First stop after arriving in Alberta, couldn't have asked for a better quick and affordable lunch. I had the donair wrap and appreciated the toppings (including a pickle!) and the free baklava, truly hit the spot. Also enjoyed some traditional Lebanese coffee to fuel our drive to Banff, reminded me of Israeli "mud" coffee. Very good place to go for a quick bite! The meat is flavorful, decent amount of meat in the shawarma. The owner is a very nice and friendly person, he lets you try the different meat if you haven't been there before and he prepares the food just the way you prefer it. I hate to do this since I'm not an expert on shawarmas but of the shawarma's I have had in my lifetime, this would have to rank as the worst. I love shawarmas and love all things mediterranean however, the Shawarma House left much to be desired. I tend to just review on taste alone with some influence on service but even if service was horrible but the food was amazing, I would frequent any establishment. I ordered a beef and chicken shawarma salad because I wanted to try a little bit of both meats. The chicken was SUPER dry and the beef was just okay. None of the sides or sauces elevated the flavors unfortunately. The owner (I'm assuming) was super friendly and nice with great service but honestly the food was below par. He offered complimentary baklava and gave a gal in the party a free falafel but I could not get past the meats being so dry. I do believe this place has potential as most of the reviews seem to be glowing. If I were to revisit this place, I'd make sure to come during peak hours where the turnover of food is more regular to avoid dry meat. read more

Went here to stop for a donair, the portions were okay although they only had 1 size. The sauce was terrible though. I asked for lots of sweet sauce and got a sauce didnt taste anything like it. The only reason its not getting 1 star is the customer service was good respectful and helpful. All in all would not go back there again read more

I love this place! I was visiting Calgary for just a couple of days and was looking for someplace quick to eat. I found this on Yelp, saw it had good reviews, and it wasn't too far from my hotel. I am so glad I stopped in! The owner is very kind and welcoming and the food is tasty! Great price and generous portions. I got the Chicken Shawarma (twice within the 2 days I was in Calgary...) and also tried the donair. I would highly recommend both. AMBIENCE: It's a take-out joint open late with a small amount of seating inside and a washroom that was out-of-order. 1/2.5 FOOD: Got a donair "salad" with just lettuce, tomato, donair meat, and a bit of sweet and garlic sauce. The meat was taken out of a container on the side, so definitely not fresh. I told the guy just a bit of sauce but I think he got a bit excited and soaked my salad in sweet sauce. It was good until I realized I was eating a swamp. My friends got beef shawarma wraps. Neither could finish theirs. I don't even know if they finished half the wrap before throwing it in the trash. According to them, the meat was terrible. One said he should have added sauce to his because of how bad the meat was, while the other said when he was asked for sauce and declined, the guy still put sauce on his wrap. Easily the best shawarma in town. If you blink you might miss this tiny little spot called Shawarma House. I think its right next to a drycleaning shop or something. There's absolutely nothing special about joint itself. But enough about the shop, lets talk business and by that I mean food: Simply delicious! This place is just around the corner from my office, and it's the best lunch option around in my eyes. First, the service is great. I'm always greeted with a big smile and polite chatting. They remember regulars and give out free baklava to everyone. Second, the food is great. I love that they put lots of toppings on my donair instead of just sprinkling on the veggies like some places do -- lots of meat, lots of pickles, lots of sauce, lots of everything so it's actually balanced and you get all the tastes when you bite into it. They really pile it on, so it's a great deal and a filling lunch for $9. The meat is well-seasoned and I love their garlic and sweet sauces. The tabouli salad is great too, with tons of parsley. I've never had a bad donair here, and I have to limit myself to only going a couple times per week or I'd be in there every day. read more

I have been going here about once every two weeks or so for the past 6 months - year or so. I usually get the Chicken Shawarma Platter but I have had the donair wrap, donair platter and usually get Falafel and Baklava with my meal. Falafel: Best in Calgary I'm not a huge fan of falafel, but I tried it once as they usually give me a free falafel ball if they have them. It was amazing. Hands down the best i've ever had. Now I make sure to grab at least one or two every time, and even though I tell them to charge me for it, they never do. Baklava: Fresh and tasty every time I also usually will get a free baklava piece with my meal. They are fresh and delicious too, homemade tasting for sure. Garlic Avocado Sauce: Unique and mouthwateringly delicious This is the only place in town that I've tried that has garlic avocado sauce. It is UNBELIEVABLE. They sometimes run out, but usually they'll have it. I was skeptical at first, but now, I can't live without it. You have to try it. Portions: Awesome The portions are generous, and if you ask for extra sauce or veg, they will load it on until you're pleading, "STOP!" haha. I love that so much. Service: Super friendly and quick There are some friendly donair places in Calgary, but this one is probably one of the friendliest. Even though the owner works nearly around the clock, he always greets me with a smile and asks how i've been, etc. I haven't had any problems with my experiences here, but I get the impression that if I did, they would go out of their way to make it right. Service times are very quick too, as they re-cook the meat ahead of time and keep it hot in their serving dish. Amazing if you're short on time. Prices are competitive, atmosphere is clean (with flatscreen TVs usually tuned to sports) and bright, and the location and hours simply cannot be beat. if you haven't tried this place yet, do yourself a favour and give it a go. read more

Hubby gives this place a 5 out of 5 and I have no qualms with that. This is HIS area of cuisine + love for it as he grew up with it all his life via his step-dad. Therefore, I trust him with the authenticity, methods of cookery opinions and all that. I just go with my taste buds and past experience of trying different spots to determine a good Lebanese restaurant. The space is open and inviting with a few tables and the wraps hubby chose from were just under the $10 mark. Good deal. I found all the pricing to be decent. It was also quite clean - most importantly, the food prep area. The owner could not have been nicer and when he heard it was our first time here we got to try a few things on the house. Baklava - deelish. Honey, honey, honey, flaky but not too sweet. The felafel balls - best I have personally ever had. Large, crispy, aromatic, with a delicate center even at room temp with a wicked accompanying sauce. The chicken pita did make it still unwrapped until we got all the way home. I had a couple of bites and was wowed. All of the ingredients worked so well together meat, veg, sauces) and the whole thing was demolished in just minutes. It was beautifully made and pressed to perfection. I have a feeling we will be regular fixtures there whenever we pass through downtown. Easy to find parking when the strip mall it is located in is not too busy. Open til 11pm on weeknights, Fri and Sat = 4am!) Since then I have been to this restaurant many times during the lunch hour. I am impressed by the quality of the food and the speed of service. The staff is always friendly and courteous. LOVE THIS PLACE. It's a short 5 minute walk from my office - how lucky I am to be in close proximity to such incredible food. Their chicken shawarma is a thing of beauty - dripping with moist delciousness. I don't know what goes in their pita spreads, but I said yes to them all and did not regret them one bit. The shawarms is of consinderable size, and it's generous enough to fill even the largest of stomachs. And it's not quantity over quality either - it's warm, filling, tender, and delicious. Everything you want. And the best surprise? Sweet, sweet baklava. If it was a bribe, it sure worked - I'll be coming back.
